¹And Agrippa said unto Paul, Thou art permitted to speak for thyself. Then Paul stretched forth his hand, and made his defence:

¹Agrippa dit à Paul: Il t'est permis de parler pour ta défense. Et Paul, ayant étendu la main, se justifia en ces termes:

¹ויאמר אגרפס אל פולוס נתן לך לדבר בעד נפשך אז יצטדק פולוס ויושט את ידו ויאמר׃

²I think myself happy, king Agrippa, that I am to make my defense before thee this day touching all the things whereof I am accused by the Jews:

²Je m'estime heureux, roi Agrippa, d'avoir aujourd'hui à me justifier devant toi de toutes les choses dont je suis accusé par les Juifs,

²מאשר אני את נפשי המלך אגרפס כי לפניך אצטדק היום על כל אשר שטנים אתי היהודים׃

³especially because thou art expert in all customs and questions which are among the Jews: wherefore I beseech thee to hear me patiently.

³car tu connais parfaitement leurs coutumes et leurs discussions. Je te prie donc de m'écouter avec patience.

³כי אתה ידע היטב כל המנהגים והשאלות אשר בין היהודים ועל כן אשאלה מאתך לשמע אתי כארך רוחך׃

⁴My manner of life then from my youth up, which was from the beginning among mine own nation and at Jerusalem, know all the Jews;

⁴Ma vie, dès les premiers temps de ma jeunesse, est connue de tous les Juifs, puisqu'elle s'est passée à Jérusalem, au milieu de ma nation.

⁴הנה את דרכי מנעורי אשר התהלכתי בה מאז בתוך עמי ובירושלים ידעים אותה כל היהודים׃

⁵having knowledge of me from the first, if they be willing to testify, that after the straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.

⁵Ils savent depuis longtemps, s'ils veulent le déclarer, que j'ai vécu pharisien, selon la secte la plus rigide de notre religion.

⁵כי מימים ראשונים ידעוני אם ירצו להעיד כי כפרוש התנהגתי על פי הכת המקפדת ביותר בעבודתנו׃

⁶And now I stand [here] to be judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers;

⁶Et maintenant, je suis mis en jugement parce que j'espère l'accomplissement de la promesse que Dieu a faite à nos pères,

⁶ועתה אני עמד להשפט על תקות ההבטחה אשר הבטיחה האלהים את אבותינו׃

⁷unto which [promise] our twelve tribes, earnestly serving [God] night and day, hope to attain. And concerning this hope I am accused by the Jews, O king!

⁷et à laquelle aspirent nos douze tribus, qui servent Dieu continuellement nuit et jour. C'est pour cette espérance, ô roi, que je suis accusé par des Juifs!

⁷ואשר שנים עשר שבטינו מיחלים להגיע לה בעבדם את יהוה תמיד יומם ולילה על דבר התקוה הזאת אגרפס המלך שטנים אותי היהודים׃

⁸Why is it judged incredible with you, if God doth raise the dead?

⁸Quoi! vous semble-t-il incroyable que Dieu ressuscite les morts?

⁸מדוע יפלא בעיניכם כי האלהים יחיה מתים׃

⁹I verily thought with myself that I ought to do many things contrary to the name of Jesus of Nazareth.

⁹Pour moi, j'avais cru devoir agir vigoureusement contre le nom de Jésus de Nazareth.

⁹הן לפנים אני חשבתי צדקה לצרר את שם ישוע הנצרי עד מאד׃

¹⁰And this I also did in Jerusalem: and I both shut up many of the saints in prisons, having received authority from the chief priests, and when they were put to death I gave my vote against them.

¹⁰C'est ce que j'ai fait à Jérusalem. J'ai jeté en prison plusieurs des saints, ayant reçu ce pouvoir des principaux sacrificateurs, et, quand on les mettait à mort, je joignais mon suffrage à celui des autres.

¹⁰כאשר עשיתי בירושלים וגם קדושים רבים אני הסגרתי לבתי כלאים ברשיון אשר קבלתי מאת הכהנים הגדולים וכשנהרגו הסכמתי׃

¹¹And punishing them oftentimes in all the synagogues, I strove to make them blaspheme; and being exceedingly mad against them, I persecuted them even unto foreign cities.

¹¹je les ai souvent châtiés dans toutes les synagogues, et je les forçais à blasphémer. Dans mes excès de fureur contre eux, je les persécutais même jusque dans les villes étrangères.

¹¹ובכל בתי הכנסיות יסרתי אתם פעמים רבות ואנסתים לגדף ואתהוללה בם עד מאד וארדפם עד לערים אשר חוצה לארץ׃

¹²Whereupon as I journeyed to Damascus with the authority and commission of the chief priests,

¹²C'est dans ce but que je me rendis à Damas, avec l'autorisation et la permission des principaux sacrificateurs.

¹²ויהי בלכתי על זאת לדמשק ברשיון הכהנים הגדולים ובמצותם׃

¹³at midday, O king, I saw on the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them that journeyed with me.

¹³Vers le milieu du jour, ô roi, je vis en chemin resplendir autour de moi et de mes compagnons une lumière venant du ciel, et dont l'éclat surpassait celui du soleil.

¹³והנה אדני המלך בצהרים בדרך ראיתי אור צח מזהר השמש אשר משמים נגה עלי מסביב ועל ההלכים אתי׃

¹⁴And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice saying unto me in the Hebrew language, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the goad.

¹⁴Nous tombâmes tous par terre, et j'entendis une voix qui me disait en langue hébraïque: Saul, Saul, pourquoi me persécutes-tu? Il te serait dur de regimber contre les aiguillons.

¹⁴ונפל כלנו ארצה ואשמע קול מדבר אלי בלשון עברית לאמר שאול שאול למה תרדפני קשה לך לבעט בדרבנות׃

¹⁵And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest.

¹⁵Je répondis: Qui es-tu, Seigneur? Et le Seigneur dit: Je suis Jésus que tu persécutes.

¹⁵ואמר מי אתה אדני ויאמר אנכי ישוע אשר אתה רדף׃

¹⁶But arise, and stand upon thy feet: for to this end have I appeared unto thee, to appoint thee a minister and a witness both of the things wherein thou hast seen me, and of the things wherein I will appear unto thee;

¹⁶Mais lève-toi, et tiens-toi sur tes pieds; car je te suis apparu pour t'établir ministre et témoin des choses que tu as vues et de celles pour lesquelles je t'apparaîtrai.

¹⁶אבל קום ועמד על רגליך כי לבעבור זאת נראיתי אליך לבחר בך למשרת ולעד על אשר ראית ועל אשר אראך׃

¹⁷delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom I send thee,

¹⁷Je t'ai choisi du milieu de ce peuple et du milieu des païens, vers qui je t'envoie,

¹⁷בהצילי אותך מן העם ומן הגוים אשר אשלחך עתה אליהם׃

¹⁸to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive remission of sins and an inheritance among them that are sanctified by faith in me.

¹⁸afin que tu leur ouvres les yeux, pour qu'ils passent des ténèbres à la lumière et de la puissance de Satan à Dieu, pour qu'ils reçoivent, par la foi en moi, le pardon des péchés et l'héritage avec les sanctifiés.

¹⁸לפקח את עיניהם למען ישובו מחשך לאור ומיד השטן אל האלהים וימצאו באמונתם בי את סליחת החטאים ואת הנחלה בתוך המקדשים׃

¹⁹Wherefore, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

¹⁹En conséquence, roi Agrippa, je n'ai point résisté à la vision céleste:

¹⁹על כן המלך אגרפס לא המריתי את המראה אשר ראיתי מן השמים׃

²⁰but declared both to them of Damascus first and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the country of Judaea, and also to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, doing works worthy of repentance.

²⁰à ceux de Damas d'abord, puis à Jérusalem, dans toute la Judée, et chez les païens, j'ai prêché la repentance et la conversion à Dieu, avec la pratique d'oeuvres dignes de la repentance.

²⁰כי אם קראתי ראשונה לישבי דמשק וירושלים ובכל ארץ יהודה וגם לגוים כי ינחמו וישובו אל האלהים ויעשו מעשים ראוים לתשובה׃

²¹For this cause the Jews seized me in the temple, and assayed to kill me.

²¹Voilà pourquoi les Juifs se sont saisis de moi dans le temple, et ont tâché de me faire périr.

²¹ובגלל הדבר הזה תפשו אתי היהודים במקדש ויבקשו להמיתני׃

²²Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand unto this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses did say should come;

²²Mais, grâce au secours de Dieu, j'ai subsisté jusqu'à ce jour, rendant témoignage devant les petits et les grands, sans m'écarter en rien de ce que les prophètes et Moïse ont déclaré devoir arriver,

²²והאלהים היה בעזרי ועד היום הזה עמד אני ומעיד לפני קטן וגדול ואינני מדבר דבר זולתי אשר דברו הנביאים ומשה כי עתידות הנה להיות׃

²³how that the Christ must suffer, [and] how that he first by the resurrection of the dead should proclaim light both to the people and to the Gentiles.

²³savoir que le Christ souffrirait, et que, ressuscité le premier d'entre les morts, il annoncerait la lumière au peuple et aux nations.

²³כי המשיח מענה הוא וכי ראשון הוא לקמים מן המתים להפיץ אור בעם ובגוים׃

²⁴And as he thus made his defense, Festus saith with a loud voice, Paul, thou art mad; thy much learning is turning thee mad.

²⁴Comme il parlait ainsi pour sa justification, Festus dit à haute voix: Tu es fou, Paul! Ton grand savoir te fait déraisonner.

²⁴ויהי הוא מצטדק כזאת ויען פסטוס בקול גדול לאמר הנך משתגע פולוס רב הלמוד הביאך לידי שגעון׃

²⁵But Paul saith, I am not mad, most excellent Festus; but speak forth words of truth and soberness.

²⁵Je ne suis point fou, très excellent Festus, répliqua Paul; ce sont, au contraire, des paroles de vérité et de bon sens que je prononce.

²⁵ויאמר פולוס אינני משגע פסטוס האדיר כי אם דברי אמת וטעם אביע׃

²⁶For the king knoweth of these things, unto whom also I speak freely: for I am persuaded that none of these things is hidden from him; for this hath not been done in a corner.

²⁶Le roi est instruit de ces choses, et je lui en parle librement; car je suis persuadé qu'il n'en ignore aucune, puisque ce n'est pas en cachette qu'elles se sont passées.

²⁶כי המלך יודע את אלה ועל זאת גם בבטחון אני מדבר אליו יען אשר לא אאמין כי נעלם ממנו דבר מן הדברים האלה כי לא בקרן זוית נעשתה זאת׃

²⁷King Agrippa, believest thou the prophets? I know that thou believest.

²⁷Crois-tu aux prophètes, roi Agrippa?... Je sais que tu y crois.

²⁷המלך אגרפס המאמין אתה בנביאים ידעתי כי מאמין אתה׃

²⁸And Agrippa [said] unto Paul, With but little persuasion thou wouldest fain make me a Christian.

²⁸Et Agrippa dit à Paul: Tu vas bientôt me persuader de devenir chrétien!

²⁸ויאמר אגרפס אל פולוס עוד מעט ופתיתני להיות נצרי׃

²⁹And Paul [said], I would to God, that whether with little or with much, not thou only, but also all that hear me this day, might become such as I am, except these bonds.

²⁹Paul répondit: Que ce soit bientôt ou que ce soit tard, plaise à Dieu que non seulement toi, mais encore tous ceux qui m'écoutent aujourd'hui, vous deveniez tels que je suis, à l'exception de ces liens!

²⁹ויאמר פולוס אבקשה מאלהים אשר אם במעט ואם בהרבה לא אתה לבדך כי גם כל השמעים אותי יהיו כמוני זולתי המוסרות האלה׃

³⁰And the king rose up, and the governor, and Bernice, and they that sat with them:

³⁰Le roi, le gouverneur, Bérénice, et tous ceux qui étaient assis avec eux se levèrent,

³⁰ויהי בדברו הדבר הזה ויקם המלך וההגמון וברניקה והישבים אתם׃

³¹and when they had withdrawn, they spake one to another, saying, This man doeth nothing worthy of death or of bonds.

³¹et, en se retirant, ils se disaient les uns aux autres: Cet homme n'a rien fait qui mérite la mort ou la prison.

³¹ויסורו החדרה וידברו איש אל רעהו לאמר האיש הזה לא עשה דבר אשר יהיה עליו חיב מיתה או מוסרות׃

³²And Agrippa said unto Festus, This man might have been set at liberty, if he had not appealed unto Caesar.

³²Et Agrippa dit à Festus: Cet homme pouvait être relâché, s'il n'en eût pas appelé à César.

³²ויאמר אגרפס אל פסטוס האיש הזה יוכל להפטר לולא קרא את הקיסר לדינו׃
