1And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.
1Saul avait approuvé le meurtre d'Etienne. Il y eut, ce jour-là, une grande persécution contre l'Eglise de Jérusalem; et tous, excepté les apôtres, se dispersèrent dans les contrées de la Judée et de la Samarie.
1ושאול גם הוא היה רצה בהרגתו ותהי ביום ההוא רדיפה גדולה על הקהלה אשר בירושלים ויפצו כלם בערי יהודה ושמרון לבד מן השליחים׃
2And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.
2Des hommes pieux ensevelirent Etienne, et le pleurèrent à grand bruit.
2וישאו אנשים חסידים את אסטפנוס ויקברהו ויספדו עליו מספד גדול׃
3But Saul laid waste the church, entering into every house, and dragging men and women committed them to prison.
3Saul, de son côté, ravageait l'Eglise; pénétrant dans les maisons, il en arrachait hommes et femmes, et les faisait jeter en prison.
3ושאול החריב את הקהלה וישוטט בבתים ויסחב משם אנשים ונשים ויסגירם לכלא׃
4They therefore that were scattered abroad, went about preaching the word.
4Ceux qui avaient été dispersés allaient de lieu en lieu, annonçant la bonne nouvelle de la parole.
4והנפוצים עברו בארץ ויבשרו את הדבר׃
5And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed unto them the Christ.
5Philippe, étant descendu dans la ville de Samarie, y prêcha le Christ.
5ופילפוס ירד אל עיר שמרון ויכרז להם את המשיח׃
6And the multitudes gave heed with one accord unto the things that were spoken by Philip, when they heard, and saw the signs which he did.
6Les foules tout entières étaient attentives à ce que disait Philippe, lorsqu'elles apprirent et virent les miracles qu'il faisait.
6ויקשב המון העם בלב אחד אל אמרי פילפוס בשמעם ובראותם את האתות אשר עשה׃
7For [from] many of those that had unclean spirits, they came out, crying with a loud voice: and many that were palsied, and that were lame, were healed.
7Car des esprits impurs sortirent de plusieurs démoniaques, en poussant de grands cris, et beaucoup de paralytiques et de boiteux furent guéris.
7כי רבים היו אחוזי רוחות הטמאה והרוחות יצאו מהם צעקות בקול גדול ורבים נכי אברים ופסחים וירפאו׃
8And there was much joy in that city.
8Et il y eut une grande joie dans cette ville.
8ותהי שמחה גדולה בעיר ההיא׃
9But there was a certain man, Simon by name, who beforetime in the city used sorcery, and amazed the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one:
9Il y avait auparavant dans la ville un homme nommé Simon, qui, se donnant pour un personnage important, exerçait la magie et provoquait l'étonnement du peuple de la Samarie.
9ואיש אחד ושמו שמעון היה מלפנים בעיר מכשף ומשמים את עם שמרון באמרו על נפשו כי גדול הוא׃
10to whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is that power of God which is called Great.
10Tous, depuis le plus petit jusqu'au plus grand, l'écoutaient attentivement, et disaient: Celui-ci est la puissance de Dieu, celle qui s'appelle la grande.
10ויקשיבו אליו מקטנם ועד גדולם לאמר זה הוא גבורת האלהים הגדולה׃
11And they gave heed to him, because that of long time he had amazed them with his sorceries.
11Ils l'écoutaient attentivement, parce qu'il les avait longtemps étonnés par ses actes de magie.
11ויקשיבו אליו על היותו משמים אותם בכשפיו ימים רבים׃
12But when they believed Philip preaching good tidings concerning the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women.
12Mais, quand ils eurent cru à Philippe, qui leur annonçait la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu et du nom de Jésus-Christ, hommes et femmes se firent baptiser.
12ויהי כאשר האמינו לפילפוס בבשרו את מלכות האלהים ואת שם ישוע המשיח ויטבלו אנשים ונשים׃
13And Simon also himself believed: and being baptized, he continued with Philip; and beholding signs and great miracles wrought, he was amazed.
13Simon lui-même crut, et, après avoir été baptisé, il ne quittait plus Philippe, et il voyait avec étonnement les miracles et les grands prodiges qui s'opéraient.
13ויאמן שמעון גם הוא ויטבל וידבק בפילפוס וירא את האתות והמפתים הגדלים אשר נעשו וישתומם׃
14Now when the apostles that were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
14Les apôtres, qui étaient à Jérusalem, ayant appris que la Samarie avait reçu la parole de Dieu, y envoyèrent Pierre et Jean.
14וישמעו השליחים אשר בירושלים כי קבלה שמרון את דבר האלהים וישלחו אליהם את פטרוס ואת יוחנן׃
15who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Spirit:
15Ceux-ci, arrivés chez les Samaritains, prièrent pour eux, afin qu'ils reçussent le Saint-Esprit.
15וירדו שמה ויתפללו בעדם אשר יקבלו את רוח הקדש׃
16for as yet it was fallen upon none of them: only they had been baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.
16Car il n'était encore descendu sur aucun d'eux; ils avaient seulement été baptisés au nom du Seigneur Jésus.
16כי הרוח לא צלחה עד עתה על אחד מהם והם רק נטבלים בשם האדון ישוע׃
17Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.
17Alors Pierre et Jean leur imposèrent les mains, et ils reçurent le Saint-Esprit.
17ויסמכו את ידיהם עליהם ויקבלו את רוח הקדש׃
18Now when Simon saw that through the laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit was given, he offered them money,
18Lorsque Simon vit que le Saint-Esprit était donné par l'imposition des mains des apôtres, il leur offrit de l'argent,
18ויהי בראות שמעון כי בסמיכות ידי השליחים נתן רוח הקדש ויבא לפניהם כסף׃
19saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay my hands, he may receive the Holy Spirit.
19en disant: Accordez-moi aussi ce pouvoir, afin que celui à qui j'imposerai les mains reçoive le Saint-Esprit.
19ויאמר תנו נא גם לי את היכלת הזאת אשר יקבל את רוח הקדש כל אשר אשים עליו את ידי׃
20But Peter said unto him, Thy silver perish with thee, because thou hast thought to obtain the gift of God with money.
20Mais Pierre lui dit: Que ton argent périsse avec toi, puisque tu as cru que le don de Dieu s'acquérait à prix d'argent!
20ויאמר אליו פטרוס כספך יהי אתך לאבדון יען חשבת לקנות במחיר את מתת האלהים׃
21Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right before God.
21Il n'y a pour toi ni part ni lot dans cette affaire, car ton coeur n'est pas droit devant Dieu.
21אין לך חלק וגורל בדבר הזה כי לבבך איננו ישר לפני האלהים׃
22Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray the Lord, if perhaps the thought of thy heart shall be forgiven thee.
22Repens-toi donc de ta méchanceté, et prie le Seigneur pour que la pensée de ton coeur te soit pardonnée, s'il est possible;
22ועתה שוב מרעתך זאת והתחנן אל האלהים אולי תסלח לך מזמת לבבך׃
23For I see that thou art in the gall of bitterness and in the bond of iniquity.
23car je vois que tu es dans un fiel amer et dans les liens de l'iniquité.
23כי ראה אנכי כי באת לידי מרורת רוש וחרצבות רשע׃
24And Simon answered and said, Pray ye for me to the Lord, that none of the things which ye have spoken come upon me.
24Simon répondit: Priez vous-mêmes le Seigneur pour moi, afin qu'il ne m'arrive rien de ce que vous avez dit.
24ויען שמעון ויאמר העתירו אתם בעדי אל יהוה לבלתי בוא עלי דבר מכל אשר אמריתם׃
25They therefore, when they had testified and spoken the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans.
25Après avoir rendu témoignage à la parole du Seigneur, et après l'avoir prêchée, Pierre et Jean retournèrent à Jérusalem, en annonçant la bonne nouvelle dans plusieurs villages des Samaritains.
25והמה אחרי אשר העידה ודברו את דבר יהוה שבו ירושלים ויבשרו את הבשורה בכפרים רבים אשר לשמרונים׃
26But an angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza: the same is desert.
26Un ange du Seigneur, s'adressant à Philippe, lui dit: Lève-toi, et va du côté du midi, sur le chemin qui descend de Jérusalem à Gaza, celui qui est désert.
26וידבר מלאך יהוה אל פילפוס לאמר קום לך הנגבה על הדרך הירדת מירושלים עזתה והיא חרבה׃
27And he arose and went: and behold, a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch of great authority under Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure, who had come to Jerusalem to worship;
27Il se leva, et partit. Et voici, un Ethiopien, un eunuque, ministre de Candace, reine d'Ethiopie, et surintendant de tous ses trésors, venu à Jérusalem pour adorer,
27ויקם וילך והנה איש כושי והוא סריס ושליט לקנדק מלכת כוש וממנה על כל גנזיה אשר עלה אל ירושלים להשתחות׃
28and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.
28s'en retournait, assis sur son char, et lisait le prophète Esaïe.
28ויהי בשובו והוא ישב על מרכבתו וקרא בספר ישעיה הנביא׃
29And the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.
29L'Esprit dit à Philippe: Avance, et approche-toi de ce char.
29ויאמר הרוח אל פילפוס גשה והלוה על המרכבה הזאת׃
30And Philip ran to him, and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest?
30Philippe accourut, et entendit l'Ethiopien qui lisait le prophète Esaïe. Il lui dit: Comprends-tu ce que tu lis?
30וירץ פילפוס אליה וישמע אתו קרא בספר ישעיה הנביא ויאמר הגם תבין את אשר אתה קורא׃
31And he said, How can I, except some one shall guide me? And he besought Philip to come up and sit with him.
31Il répondit: Comment le pourrais-je, si quelqu'un ne me guide? Et il invita Philippe à monter et à s'asseoir avec lui.
31ויאמר ואיככה אוכל אם אין איש אשר יורני ויבקש מאת פילפוס לעלות ולשבת אצלו׃
32Now the passage of the Scripture which he was reading was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; And as a lamb before his shearer is dumb, So he openeth not his mouth:
32Le passage de l'Ecriture qu'il lisait était celui-ci: Il a été mené comme une brebis à la boucherie; Et, comme un agneau muet devant celui qui le tond, Il n'a point ouvert la bouche.
32וענין הכתוב אשר קרא זה הוא כשה לטבח יובל וכרחל לפני גוזזיה נאלמה ולא יפתח פיו׃
33In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: His generation who shall declare? For his life is taken from the earth.
33Dans son humiliation, son jugement a été levé. Et sa postérité, qui la dépeindra? Car sa vie a été retranchée de la terre.
33בעצר משפטו לקח ואת דורו מי ישוחח כי נגזרו מארץ חייו׃
34And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other?
34L'eunuque dit à Philippe: Je te prie, de qui le prophète parle-t-il ainsi? Est-ce de lui-même, ou de quelque autre?
34ויען הסריס ויאמר אל פילפוס אשאלה ממך על מי הנביא מדבר את זאת על נפשו או על איש אחר׃
35And Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture, preached unto him Jesus.
35Alors Philippe, ouvrant la bouche et commençant par ce passage, lui annonça la bonne nouvelle de Jésus.
35ויפתח פילפוס את פיו ויחל מן הכתוב הזה ויבשר אותו את ישוע׃
36And as they went on the way, they came unto a certain water; and the eunuch saith, Behold, [here is] water; what doth hinder me to be baptized?
36Comme ils continuaient leur chemin, ils rencontrèrent de l'eau. Et l'eunuque dit: Voici de l'eau; qu'est-ce qui empêche que je sois baptisé?
36ויהי בעברם בדרך ויבאו אל מקום מים ויאמר הסריס הנה מים מה ימנעני מהטבל׃
37[And Philip said, If thou believest with all thy heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God.]
37Philippe dit: Si tu crois de tout ton coeur, cela est possible. L'eunuque répondit: Je crois que Jésus-Christ est le Fils de Dieu.
37ויאמר פילפוס אם מאמין אתה בכל לבבך מתר לך ויען ויאמר אני מאמין כי ישוע המשיח בן האלהים הוא׃
38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they both went down into the water, both Philip and the eunuch, and he baptized him.
38Il fit arrêter le char; Philippe et l'eunuque descendirent tous deux dans l'eau, et Philippe baptisa l'eunuque.
38ויצו להעמיד את המרכבה וירדו שניהם אל תוך המים פילפוס והסריס ויטבל אותו׃
39And when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip; and the eunuch saw him no more, for he went on his way rejoicing.
39Quand ils furent sortis de l'eau, l'Esprit du Seigneur enleva Philippe, et l'eunuque ne le vit plus. Tandis que, joyeux, il poursuivait sa route,
39ויהי כי עלו מן המים וישא רוח יהוה את פילפוס ולא יסף הסריס לראותו כי הלך לדרכו שמח׃
40But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached the gospel to all the cities, till he came to Caesarea.
40Philippe se trouva dans Azot, d'où il alla jusqu'à Césarée, en évangélisant toutes les villes par lesquelles il passait.
40ופילפוס נמצא באשדוד ויעבר ויבשר בכל הערים עד באו לקסרין׃
