¹And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that Jehovah thy God will set thee on high above all the nations of the earth:

¹Si tu obéis à la voix de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, en observant et en mettant en pratique tous ses commandements que je te prescris aujourd'hui, l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donnera la supériorité sur toutes les nations de la terre.

¹והיה אם שמוע תשמע בקול יהוה אלהיך לשמר לעשות את כל מצותיו אשר אנכי מצוך היום ונתנך יהוה אלהיך עליון על כל גויי הארץ׃

²and all these blessings shall come upon thee, and overtake thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God.

²Voici toutes les bénédictions qui se répandront sur toi et qui seront ton partage, lorsque tu obéiras à la voix de l'Eternel, ton Dieu:

²ובאו עליך כל הברכות האלה והשיגך כי תשמע בקול יהוה אלהיך׃

³Blessed shalt thou be in the city, and blessed shalt thou be in the field.

³Tu seras béni dans la ville, et tu seras béni dans les champs.

³ברוך אתה בעיר וברוך אתה בשדה׃

⁴Blessed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, and the fruit of thy beasts, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock.

⁴Le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de ton sol, le fruit de tes troupeaux, les portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, toutes ces choses seront bénies.

⁴ברוך פרי בטנך ופרי אדמתך ופרי בהמתך שגר אלפיך ועשתרות צאנך׃

⁵Blessed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough.

⁵Ta corbeille et ta huche seront bénies.

⁵ברוך טנאך ומשארתך׃

⁶Blessed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and blessed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

⁶Tu seras béni à ton arrivée, et tu seras béni à ton départ.

⁶ברוך אתה בבאך וברוך אתה בצאתך׃

⁷Jehovah will cause thine enemies that rise up against thee to be smitten before thee: they shall come out against thee one way, and shall flee before thee seven ways.

⁷L'Eternel te donnera la victoire sur tes ennemis qui s'élèveront contre toi; ils sortiront contre toi par un seul chemin, et ils s'enfuiront devant toi par sept chemins.

⁷יתן יהוה את איביך הקמים עליך נגפים לפניך בדרך אחד יצאו אליך ובשבעה דרכים ינוסו לפניך׃

⁸Jehovah will command the blessing upon thee in thy barns, and in all that thou puttest thy hand unto; and he will bless thee in the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee.

⁸L'Eternel ordonnera à la bénédiction d'être avec toi dans tes greniers et dans toutes tes entreprises. Il te bénira dans le pays que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donne.

⁸יצו יהוה אתך את הברכה באסמיך ובכל משלח ידך וברכך בארץ אשר יהוה אלהיך נתן לך׃

⁹Jehovah will establish thee for a holy people unto himself, as he hath sworn unto thee; if thou shalt keep the commandments of Jehovah thy God, and walk in his ways.

⁹Tu seras pour l'Eternel un peuple saint, comme il te l'a juré, lorsque tu observeras les commandements de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, et que tu marcheras dans ses voies.

⁹יקימך יהוה לו לעם קדוש כאשר נשבע לך כי תשמר את מצות יהוה אלהיך והלכת בדרכיו׃

¹⁰And all the peoples of the earth shall see that thou art called by the name of Jehovah; and they shall be afraid of thee.

¹⁰Tous les peuples verront que tu es appelé du nom de l'Eternel, et ils te craindront.

¹⁰וראו כל עמי הארץ כי שם יהוה נקרא עליך ויראו ממך׃

¹¹And Jehovah will make thee plenteous for good, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy ground, in the land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers to give thee.

¹¹L'Eternel te comblera de biens, en multipliant le fruit de tes entrailles, le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, dans le pays que l'Eternel a juré à tes pères de te donner.

¹¹והותרך יהוה לטובה בפרי בטנך ובפרי בהמתך ובפרי אדמתך על האדמה אשר נשבע יהוה לאבתיך לתת לך׃

¹²Jehovah will open unto thee his good treasure the heavens, to give the rain of thy land in its season, and to bless all the work of thy hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.

¹²L'Eternel t'ouvrira son bon trésor, le ciel, pour envoyer à ton pays la pluie en son temps et pour bénir tout le travail de tes mains; tu prêteras à beaucoup de nations, et tu n'emprunteras point.

¹²יפתח יהוה לך את אוצרו הטוב את השמים לתת מטר ארצך בעתו ולברך את כל מעשה ידך והלוית גוים רבים ואתה לא תלוה׃

¹³And Jehovah will make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if thou shalt hearken unto the commandments of Jehovah thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do [them],

¹³L'Eternel fera de toi la tête et non la queue, tu seras toujours en haut et tu ne seras jamais en bas, lorsque tu obéiras aux commandements de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, que je te prescris aujourd'hui, lorsque tu les observeras et les mettras en pratique,

¹³ונתנך יהוה לראש ולא לזנב והיית רק למעלה ולא תהיה למטה כי תשמע אל מצות יהוה אלהיך אשר אנכי מצוך היום לשמר ולעשות׃

¹⁴and shalt not turn aside from any of the words which I command you this day, to the right hand, or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.

¹⁴et que tu ne te détourneras ni à droite ni à gauche de tous les commandements que je vous donne aujourd'hui, pour aller après d'autres dieux et pour les servir.

¹⁴ולא תסור מכל הדברים אשר אנכי מצוה אתכם היום ימין ושמאול ללכת אחרי אלהים אחרים לעבדם׃

¹⁵But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day, that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee.

¹⁵Mais si tu n'obéis point à la voix de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, si tu n'observes pas et ne mets pas en pratique tous ses commandements et toutes ses lois que je te prescris aujourd'hui, voici toutes les malédictions qui viendront sur toi et qui seront ton partage:

¹⁵והיה אם לא תשמע בקול יהוה אלהיך לשמר לעשות את כל מצותיו וחקתיו אשר אנכי מצוך היום ובאו עליך כל הקללות האלה והשיגוך׃

¹⁶Cursed shalt thou be in the city, and cursed shalt thou be in the field.

¹⁶Tu seras maudit dans la ville, et tu seras maudit dans les champs.

¹⁶ארור אתה בעיר וארור אתה בשדה׃

¹⁷Cursed shall be thy basket and thy kneading-trough.

¹⁸Cursed shall be the fruit of thy body, and the fruit of thy ground, the increase of thy cattle, and the young of thy flock.

¹⁸ארור פרי בטנך ופרי אדמתך שגר אלפיך ועשתרות צאנך׃

¹⁹Cursed shalt thou be when thou comest in, and cursed shalt thou be when thou goest out.

¹⁹Tu seras maudit à ton arrivée, et tu seras maudit à ton départ.

¹⁹ארור אתה בבאך וארור אתה בצאתך׃

²⁰Jehovah will send upon thee cursing, discomfiture, and rebuke, in all that thou puttest thy hand unto to do, until thou be destroyed, and until thou perish quickly; because of the evil of thy doings, whereby thou hast forsaken me.

²⁰L'Eternel enverra contre toi la malédiction, le trouble et la menace, au milieu de toutes les entreprises que tu feras, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit, jusqu'à ce que tu périsses promptement, à cause de la méchanceté de tes actions, qui t'aura porté à m'abandonner.

²⁰ישלח יהוה בך את המארה את המהומה ואת המגערת בכל משלח ידך אשר תעשה עד השמדך ועד אבדך מהר מפני רע מעלליך אשר עזבתני׃

²¹Jehovah will make the pestilence cleave unto thee, until he have consumed thee from off the land, whither thou goest in to possess it.

²¹L'Eternel attachera à toi la peste, jusqu'à ce qu'elle te consume dans le pays dont tu vas entrer en possession.

²¹ידבק יהוה בך את הדבר עד כלתו אתך מעל האדמה אשר אתה בא שמה לרשתה׃

²²Jehovah will smite thee with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with the sword, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish.

²²L'Eternel te frappera de consomption, de fièvre, d'inflammation, de chaleur brûlante, de desséchement, de jaunisse et de gangrène, qui te poursuivront jusqu'à ce que tu périsses.

²²יככה יהוה בשחפת ובקדחת ובדלקת ובחרחר ובחרב ובשדפון ובירקון ורדפוך עד אבדך׃

²³And thy heaven that is over thy head shall be brass, and the earth that is under thee shall be iron.

²³Le ciel sur ta tête sera d'airain, et la terre sous toi sera de fer.

²³והיו שמיך אשר על ראשך נחשת והארץ אשר תחתיך ברזל׃

²⁴Jehovah will make the rain of thy land powder and dust: from heaven shall it come down upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

²⁴L'Eternel enverra pour pluie à ton pays de la poussière et de la poudre; il en descendra du ciel sur toi jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit.

²⁴יתן יהוה את מטר ארצך אבק ועפר מן השמים ירד עליך עד השמדך׃

²⁵Jehovah will cause thee to be smitten before thine enemies; thou shalt go out one way against them, and shalt flee seven ways before them: and thou shalt be tossed to and from among all the kingdoms of the earth.

²⁵L'Eternel te fera battre par tes ennemis; tu sortiras contre eux par un seul chemin, et tu t'enfuiras devant eux par sept chemins; et tu seras un objet d'effroi pour tous les royaumes de la terre.

²⁵יתנך יהוה נגף לפני איביך בדרך אחד תצא אליו ובשבעה דרכים תנוס לפניו והיית לזעוה לכל ממלכות הארץ׃

²⁶And thy dead body shall be food unto all birds of the heavens, and unto the beasts of the earth; and there shall be none to frighten them away.

²⁶Ton cadavre sera la pâture de tous les oiseaux du ciel et des bêtes de la terre; et il n'y aura personne pour les troubler.

²⁶והיתה נבלתך למאכל לכל עוף השמים ולבהמת הארץ ואין מחריד׃

²⁷Jehovah will smite thee with the boil of Egypt, and with the emerods, and with the scurvy, and with the itch, whereof thou canst not be healed.

²⁷L'Eternel te frappera de l'ulcère d'Egypte, d'hémorrhoïdes, de gale et de teigne, dont tu ne pourras guérir.

²⁷יככה יהוה בשחין מצרים ובעפלים ובגרב ובחרס אשר לא תוכל להרפא׃

²⁸Jehovah will smite thee with madness, and with blindness, and with astonishment of heart;

²⁸L'Eternel te frappera de délire, d'aveuglement, d'égarement d'esprit,

²⁸יככה יהוה בשגעון ובעורון ובתמהון לבב׃

²⁹and thou shalt grope at noonday, as the blind gropeth in darkness, and thou shalt not prosper in thy ways: and thou shalt be only oppressed and robbed alway, and there shall be none to save thee.

²⁹et tu tâtonneras en plein midi comme l'aveugle dans l'obscurité, tu n'auras point de succès dans tes entreprises, et tu seras tous les jours opprimé, dépouillé, et il n'y aura personne pour venir à ton secours.

²⁹והיית ממשש בצהרים כאשר ימשש העור באפלה ולא תצליח את דרכיך והיית אך עשוק וגזול כל הימים ואין מושיע׃

³⁰Thou shalt betroth a wife, and another man shall lie with her: thou shalt build a house, and thou shalt not dwell therein: thou shalt plant a vineyard, and shalt not use the fruit thereof.

³⁰Tu auras une fiancée, et un autre homme couchera avec elle; tu bâtiras une maison, et tu ne l'habiteras pas; tu planteras une vigne, et tu n'en jouiras pas.

³⁰אשה תארש ואיש אחר ישגלנה בית תבנה ולא תשב בו כרם תטע ולא תחללנו׃

³¹Thine ox shall be slain before thine eyes, and thou shalt not eat thereof: thine ass shall be violently taken away from before thy face, and shall not be restored to thee: thy sheep shall be given unto thine enemies, and thou shalt have none to save thee.

³¹Ton boeuf sera égorgé sous tes yeux, et tu n'en mangeras pas; ton âne sera enlevé devant toi, et on ne te le rendra pas; tes brebis seront données à tes ennemis, et il n'y aura personne pour venir à ton secours.

³¹שורך טבוח לעיניך ולא תאכל ממנו חמרך גזול מלפניך ולא ישוב לך צאנך נתנות לאיביך ואין לך מושיע׃

³²Thy sons and thy daughters shall be given unto another people; and thine eyes shall look, and fail with longing for them all the day: and there shall be nought in the power of thy hand.

³²Tes fils et tes filles seront livrés à un autre peuple, tes yeux le verront et languiront tout le jour après eux, et ta main sera sans force.

³²בניך ובנתיך נתנים לעם אחר ועיניך ראות וכלות אליהם כל היום ואין לאל ידך׃

³³The fruit of thy ground, and all thy labors, shall a nation which thou knowest not eat up; and thou shalt be only oppressed and crushed alway;

³³Un peuple que tu n'auras point connu mangera le fruit de ton sol et tout le produit de ton travail, et tu seras tous les jours opprimé et écrasé.

³³פרי אדמתך וכל יגיעך יאכל עם אשר לא ידעת והיית רק עשוק ורצוץ כל הימים׃

³⁴so that thou shalt be mad for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

³⁴Le spectacle que tu auras sous les yeux te jettera dans le délire.

³⁴והיית משגע ממראה עיניך אשר תראה׃

³⁵Jehovah will smite thee in the knees, and in the legs, with a sore boil, whereof thou canst not be healed, from the sole of thy foot unto the crown of thy head.

³⁵L'Eternel te frappera aux genoux et aux cuisses d'un ulcère malin dont tu ne pourras guérir, il te frappera depuis la plante du pied jusqu'au sommet de la tête.

³⁵יככה יהוה בשחין רע על הברכים ועל השקים אשר לא תוכל להרפא מכף רגלך ועד קדקדך׃

³⁶Jehovah will bring thee, and thy king whom thou shalt set over thee, unto a nation that thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers; and there shalt thou serve other gods, wood and stone.

³⁶L'Eternel te fera marcher, toi et ton roi que tu auras établi sur toi, vers une nation que tu n'auras point connue, ni toi ni tes pères. Et là, tu serviras d'autres dieux, du bois et de la pierre.

³⁶יולך יהוה אתך ואת מלכך אשר תקים עליך אל גוי אשר לא ידעת אתה ואבתיך ועבדת שם אלהים אחרים עץ ואבן׃

³⁷And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all the peoples whither Jehovah shall lead thee away.

³⁷Et tu seras un sujet d'étonnement, de sarcasme et de raillerie, parmi tous les peuples chez qui l'Eternel te mènera.

³⁷והיית לשמה למשל ולשנינה בכל העמים אשר ינהגך יהוה שמה׃

³⁸Thou shalt carry much seed out into the field, and shalt gather little in; for the locust shall consume it.

³⁸Tu transporteras sur ton champ beaucoup de semence; et tu feras une faible récolte, car les sauterelles la dévoreront.

³⁸זרע רב תוציא השדה ומעט תאסף כי יחסלנו הארבה׃

³⁹Thou shalt plant vineyards and dress them, but thou shalt neither drink of the wine, nor gather [the grapes]; for the worm shall eat them.

³⁹Tu planteras des vignes et tu les cultiveras; et tu ne boiras pas de vin et tu ne feras pas de récolte, car les vers la mangeront.

³⁹כרמים תטע ועבדת ויין לא תשתה ולא תאגר כי תאכלנו התלעת׃

⁴⁰Thou shalt have olive-trees throughout all thy borders, but thou shalt not anoint thyself with the oil; for thine olive shall cast [its fruit].

⁴⁰Tu auras des oliviers dans toute l'étendue de ton pays; et tu ne t'oindras pas d'huile, car tes olives tomberont.

⁴⁰זיתים יהיו לך בכל גבולך ושמן לא תסוך כי ישל זיתך׃

⁴¹Thou shalt beget sons and daughters, but they shall not be thine; for they shall go into captivity.

⁴¹Tu engendreras des fils et des filles; et ils ne seront pas à toi, car ils iront en captivité.

⁴¹בנים ובנות תוליד ולא יהיו לך כי ילכו בשבי׃

⁴²All thy trees and the fruit of thy ground shall the locust possess.

⁴²Les insectes prendront possession de tous tes arbres et du fruit de ton sol.

⁴²כל עצך ופרי אדמתך יירש הצלצל׃

⁴³The sojourner that is in the midst of thee shall mount up above thee higher and higher; and thou shalt come down lower and lower.

⁴³L'étranger qui sera au milieu de toi s'élèvera toujours plus au-dessus de toi, et toi, tu descendras toujours plus bas;

⁴³הגר אשר בקרבך יעלה עליך מעלה מעלה ואתה תרד מטה מטה׃

⁴⁴He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.

⁴⁴il te prêtera, et tu ne lui prêteras pas; il sera la tête, et tu seras la queue.

⁴⁴הוא ילוך ואתה לא תלונו הוא יהיה לראש ואתה תהיה לזנב׃

⁴⁵And all these curses shall come upon thee, and shall pursue thee, and overtake thee, till thou be destroyed; because thou hearkenedst not unto the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep his commandments and his statutes which he commanded thee:

⁴⁵Toutes ces malédictions viendront sur toi, elles te poursuivront et seront ton partage jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit, parce que tu n'auras pas obéi à la voix de l'Eternel, ton Dieu, parce que tu n'auras pas observé ses commandements et ses lois qu'il te prescrit.

⁴⁵ובאו עליך כל הקללות האלה ורדפוך והשיגוך עד השמדך כי לא שמעת בקול יהוה אלהיך לשמר מצותיו וחקתיו אשר צוך׃

⁴⁶and they shall be upon thee for a sign and for a wonder, and upon thy seed for ever.

⁴⁶Elles seront à jamais pour toi et pour tes descendants comme des signes et des prodiges.

⁴⁶והיו בך לאות ולמופת ובזרעך עד עולם׃

⁴⁷Because thou servedst not Jehovah thy God with joyfulness, and with gladness of heart, by reason of the abundance of all things;

⁴⁷Pour n'avoir pas, au milieu de l'abondance de toutes choses, servi l'Eternel, ton Dieu, avec joie et de bon coeur,

⁴⁷תחת אשר לא עבדת את יהוה אלהיך בשמחה ובטוב לבב מרב כל׃

⁴⁸therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies that Jehovah shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.

⁴⁸tu serviras, au milieu de la faim, de la soif, de la nudité et de la disette de toutes choses, tes ennemis que l'Eternel enverra contre toi. Il mettra un joug de fer sur ton cou, jusqu'à ce qu'il t'ait détruit.

⁴⁸ועבדת את איביך אשר ישלחנו יהוה בך ברעב ובצמא ובעירם ובחסר כל ונתן על ברזל על צוארך עד השמידו אתך׃

⁴⁹Jehovah will bring a nation against thee from far, from the end of the earth, as the eagle flieth; a nation whose tongue thou shalt not understand;

⁴⁹L'Eternel fera partir de loin, des extrémités de la terre, une nation qui fondra sur toi d'un vol d'aigle, une nation dont tu n'entendras point la langue,

⁴⁹ישא יהוה עליך גוי מרחוק מקצה הארץ כאשר ידאה הנשר גוי אשר לא תשמע לשנו׃

⁵⁰a nation of fierce countenance, that shall not regard the person of the old, nor show favor to the young,

⁵⁰une nation au visage farouche, et qui n'aura ni respect pour le vieillard ni pitié pour l'enfant.

⁵⁰גוי עז פנים אשר לא ישא פנים לזקן ונער לא יחן׃

⁵¹and shall eat the fruit of thy cattle, and the fruit of thy ground, until thou be destroyed; that also shall not leave thee grain, new wine, or oil, the increase of thy cattle, or the young of thy flock, until they have caused thee to perish.

⁵¹Elle mangera le fruit de tes troupeaux et le fruit de ton sol, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit; elle ne te laissera ni blé, ni moût, ni huile, ni portées de ton gros et de ton menu bétail, jusqu'à ce qu'elle t'ait fait périr.

⁵¹ואכל פרי בהמתך ופרי אדמתך עד השמדך אשר לא ישאיר לך דגן תירוש ויצהר שגר אלפיך ועשתרת צאנך עד האבידו אתך׃

⁵²And they shall besiege thee in all thy gates, until thy high and fortified walls come down, wherein thou trustedst, throughout all thy land; and they shall besiege thee in all thy gates throughout all thy land, which Jehovah thy God hath given thee.

⁵²Elle t'assiégera dans toutes tes portes, jusqu'à ce que tes murailles tombent, ces hautes et fortes murailles sur lesquelles tu auras placé ta confiance dans toute l'étendue de ton pays; elle t'assiégera dans toutes tes portes, dans tout le pays que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donne.

⁵²והצר לך בכל שעריך עד רדת חמתיך הגבהות והבצרות אשר אתה בטח בהן בכל ארצך והצר לך בכל שעריך בכל ארצך אשר נתן יהוה אלהיך לך׃

⁵³And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, whom Jehovah thy God hath given thee, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee.

⁵³Au milieu de l'angoisse et de la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi, tu mangeras le fruit de tes entrailles, la chair de tes fils et de tes filles que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, t'aura donnés.

⁵³ואכלת פרי בטנך בשר בניך ובנתיך אשר נתן לך יהוה אלהיך במצור ובמצוק אשר יציק לך איבך׃

⁵⁴The man that is tender among you, and very delicate, his eye shall be evil toward his brother, and toward the wife of his bosom, and toward the remnant of his children whom he hath remaining;

⁵⁴L'homme d'entre vous le plus délicat et le plus habitué à la mollesse aura un oeil sans pitié pour son frère, pour la femme qui repose sur son sein, pour ceux de ses enfants qu'il a épargnés;

⁵⁴האיש הרך בך והענג מאד תרע עינו באחיו ובאשת חיקו וביתר בניו אשר יותיר׃

⁵⁵so that he will not give to any of them of the flesh of his children whom he shall eat, because he hath nothing left him, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in all thy gates.

⁵⁵il ne donnera à aucun d'eux de la chair de ses enfants dont il fait sa nourriture, parce qu'il ne lui reste plus rien au milieu de l'angoisse et de la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans toutes tes portes.

⁵⁵מתת לאחד מהם מבשר בניו אשר יאכל מבלי השאיר לו כל במצור ובמצוק אשר יציק לך איבך בכל שעריך׃

⁵⁶The tender and delicate woman among you, who would not adventure to set the sole of her foot upon the ground for delicateness and tenderness, her eye shall be evil toward the husband of her bosom, and toward her son, and toward her daughter,

⁵⁶La femme d'entre vous la plus délicate et la plus habituée à la mollesse, qui par mollesse et par délicatesse n'essayait pas de poser à terre la plante de son pied, aura un oeil sans pitié pour le mari qui repose sur son sein, pour son fils et pour sa fille;

⁵⁶הרכה בך והענגה אשר לא נסתה כף רגלה הצג על הארץ מהתענג ומרך תרע עינה באיש חיקה ובבנה ובבתה׃

⁵⁷and toward her young one that cometh out from between her feet, and toward her children whom she shall bear; for she shall eat them for want of all things secretly, in the siege and in the distress wherewith thine enemy shall distress thee in thy gates.

⁵⁷elle ne leur donnera rien de l'arrière-faix sorti d'entre ses pieds et des enfants qu'elle mettra au monde, car, manquant de tout, elle en fera secrètement sa nourriture au milieu de l'angoisse et de la détresse où te réduira ton ennemi dans tes portes.

⁵⁷ובשליתה היוצת מבין רגליה ובבניה אשר תלד כי תאכלם בחסר כל בסתר במצור ובמצוק אשר יציק לך איבך בשעריך׃

⁵⁸If thou wilt not observe to do all the words of this law that are written in this book, that thou mayest fear this glorious and fearful name, JEHOVAH THY GOD;

⁵⁸Si tu n'observes pas et ne mets pas en pratique toutes les paroles de cette loi, écrites dans ce livre, si tu ne crains pas ce nom glorieux et redoutable de l'Eternel, ton Dieu,

⁵⁸אם לא תשמר לעשות את כל דברי התורה הזאת הכתובים בספר הזה ליראה את השם הנכבד והנורא הזה את יהוה אלהיך׃

⁵⁹then Jehovah will make thy plagues wonderful, and the plagues of thy seed, even great plagues, and of long continuance, and sore sicknesses, and of long continuance.

⁵⁹l'Eternel te frappera miraculeusement, toi et ta postérité, par des plaies grandes et de longue durée, par des maladies graves et opiniâtres.

⁵⁹והפלא יהוה את מכתך ואת מכות זרעך מכות גדלות ונאמנות וחלים רעים ונאמנים׃

⁶⁰And he will bring upon thee again all the diseases of Egypt, which thou wast afraid of; and they shall cleave unto thee.

⁶⁰Il amènera sur toi toutes les maladies d'Egypte, devant lesquelles tu tremblais; et elles s'attacheront à toi.

⁶⁰והשיב בך את כל מדוה מצרים אשר יגרת מפניהם ודבקו בך׃

⁶¹Also every sickness, and every plague, which is not written in the book of this law, them will Jehovah bring upon thee, until thou be destroyed.

⁶¹Et même, l'Eternel fera venir sur toi, jusqu'à ce que tu sois détruit, toutes sortes de maladies et de plaies qui ne sont point mentionnées dans le livre de cette loi.

⁶¹גם כל חלי וכל מכה אשר לא כתוב בספר התורה הזאת יעלם יהוה עליך עד השמדך׃

⁶²And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou didst not hearken unto the voice of Jehovah thy God.

⁶²Après avoir été aussi nombreux que les étoiles du ciel, vous ne resterez qu'un petit nombre, parce que tu n'auras point obéi à la voix de l'Eternel, ton Dieu.

⁶²ונשארתם במתי מעט תחת אשר הייתם ככוכבי השמים לרב כי לא שמעת בקול יהוה אלהיך׃

⁶³And it shall come to pass, that, as Jehovah rejoiced over you to do you good, and to multiply you, so Jehovah will rejoice over you to cause you to perish, and to destroy you; and ye shall be plucked from off the land whither thou goest in to possess it.

⁶³De même que l'Eternel prenait plaisir à vous faire du bien et à vous multiplier, de même l'Eternel prendra plaisir à vous faire périr et à vous détruire; et vous serez arrachés du pays dont tu vas entrer en possession.

⁶³והיה כאשר שש יהוה עליכם להיטיב אתכם ולהרבות אתכם כן ישיש יהוה עליכם להאביד אתכם ולהשמיד אתכם ונסחתם מעל האדמה אשר אתה בא שמה לרשתה׃

⁶⁴And Jehovah will scatter thee among all peoples, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth; and there thou shalt serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou nor thy fathers, even wood and stone.

⁶⁴L'Eternel te dispersera parmi tous les peuples, d'une extrémité de la terre à l'autre; et là, tu serviras d'autres dieux que n'ont connus ni toi, ni tes pères, du bois et de la pierre.

⁶⁴והפיצך יהוה בכל העמים מקצה הארץ ועד קצה הארץ ועבדת שם אלהים אחרים אשר לא ידעת אתה ואבתיך עץ ואבן׃

⁶⁵And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, and there shall be no rest for the sole of thy foot: but Jehovah will give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and pining of soul;

⁶⁵Parmi ces nations, tu ne seras pas tranquille, et tu n'auras pas un lieu de repos pour la plante de tes pieds. L'Eternel rendra ton coeur agité, tes yeux languissants, ton âme souffrante.

⁶⁵ובגוים ההם לא תרגיע ולא יהיה מנוח לכף רגלך ונתן יהוה לך שם לב רגז וכליון עינים ודאבון נפש׃

⁶⁶and thy life shall hang in doubt before thee; and thou shalt fear night and day, and shalt have no assurance of thy life.

⁶⁶Ta vie sera comme en suspens devant toi, tu trembleras la nuit et le jour, tu douteras de ton existence.

⁶⁶והיו חייך תלאים לך מנגד ופחדת לילה ויומם ולא תאמין בחייך׃

⁶⁷In the morning thou shalt say, Would it were even! and at even thou shalt say, Would it were morning! for the fear of thy heart which thou shalt fear, and for the sight of thine eyes which thou shalt see.

⁶⁷Dans l'effroi qui remplira ton coeur et en présence de ce que tes yeux verront, tu diras le matin: Puisse le soir être là! et tu diras le soir: Puisse le matin être là!

⁶⁷בבקר תאמר מי יתן ערב ובערב תאמר מי יתן בקר מפחד לבבך אשר תפחד וממראה עיניך אשר תראה׃

⁶⁸And Jehovah will bring thee into Egypt again with ships, by the way whereof I said unto thee, Thou shalt see it no more again: and there ye shall sell yourselves unto your enemies for bondmen and for bondwomen, and no man shall buy you.

⁶⁸Et l'Eternel te ramènera sur des navires en Egypte, et tu feras ce chemin dont je t'avais dit: Tu ne le reverras plus! Là, vous vous offrirez en vente à vos ennemis, comme esclaves et comme servantes; et il n'y aura personne pour vous acheter.

⁶⁸והשיבך יהוה מצרים באניות בדרך אשר אמרתי לך לא תסיף עוד לראתה והתמכרתם שם לאיביך לעבדים ולשפחות ואין קנה׃
