¹On that night could not the king sleep; and he commanded to bring the book of records of the chronicles, and they were read before the king.

¹Cette nuit-là, le roi ne put pas dormir, et il se fit apporter le livre des annales, les Chroniques. On les lut devant le roi,

¹בלילה ההוא נדדה שנת המלך ויאמר להביא את ספר הזכרנות דברי הימים ויהיו נקראים לפני המלך׃

²And it was found written, that Mordecai had told of Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king's chamberlains, of those that kept the threshold, who had sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.

²et l'on trouva écrit ce que Mardochée avait révélé au sujet de Bigthan et de Théresch, les deux eunuques du roi, gardes du seuil, qui avaient voulu porter la main sur le roi Assuérus.

²וימצא כתוב אשר הגיד מרדכי על בגתנא ותרש שני סריסי המלך משמרי הסף אשר בקשו לשלח יד במלך אחשורוש׃

³And the king said, What honor and dignity hath been bestowed on Mordecai for this? Then said the king's servants that ministered unto him, There is nothing done for him.

³Le roi dit: Quelle marque de distinction et d'honneur Mardochée a-t-il reçue pour cela? Il n'a rien reçu, répondirent ceux qui servaient le roi.

³ויאמר המלך מה נעשה יקר וגדולה למרדכי על זה ויאמרו נערי המלך משרתיו לא נעשה עמו דבר׃

⁴And the king said, Who is in the court? Now Haman was come into the outward court of the king's house, to speak unto the king to hang Mordecai on the gallows that he had prepared for him.

⁴Alors le roi dit: Qui est dans la cour? -Haman était venu dans la cour extérieure de la maison du roi, pour demander au roi de faire pendre Mardochée au bois qu'il avait préparé pour lui. -

⁴ויאמר המלך מי בחצר והמן בא לחצר בית המלך החיצונה לאמר למלך לתלות את מרדכי על העץ אשר הכין לו׃

⁵And the king's servants said unto him, Behold, Haman standeth in the court. And the king said, Let him come in.

⁵Les serviteurs du roi lui répondirent: C'est Haman qui se tient dans la cour. Et le roi dit: Qu'il entre.

⁵ויאמרו נערי המלך אליו הנה המן עמד בחצר ויאמר המלך יבוא׃

⁶So Haman came in. And the king said unto him, What shall be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor? Now Haman said in his heart, To whom would the king delight to do honor more than to myself?

⁶Haman entra, et le roi lui dit: Que faut-il faire pour un homme que le roi veut honorer? Haman se dit en lui-même: Quel autre que moi le roi voudrait-il honorer?

⁶ויבוא המן ויאמר לו המלך מה לעשות באיש אשר המלך חפץ ביקרו ויאמר המן בלבו למי יחפץ המלך לעשות יקר יותר ממני׃

⁷And Haman said unto the king, For the man whom the king delighteth to honor,

⁷Et Haman répondit au roi: Pour un homme que le roi veut honorer,

⁷ויאמר המן אל המלך איש אשר המלך חפץ ביקרו׃

⁸let royal apparel be brought which the king useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth upon, and on the head of which a crown royal is set:

⁸il faut prendre le vêtement royal dont le roi se couvre et le cheval que le roi monte et sur la tête duquel se pose une couronne royale,

⁸יביאו לבוש מלכות אשר לבש בו המלך וסוס אשר רכב עליו המלך ואשר נתן כתר מלכות בראשו׃

⁹and let the apparel and the horse be delivered to the hand of one of the king's most noble princes, that they may array the man therewith whom the king delighteth to honor, and cause him to ride on horseback through the street of the city, and proclaim before him, Thus shall it be done to the man whom the king delighteth to honor.

⁹remettre le vêtement et le cheval à l'un des principaux chefs du roi, puis revêtir l'homme que le roi veut honorer, le promener à cheval à travers la place de la ville, et crier devant lui: C'est ainsi que l'on fait à l'homme que le roi veut honorer!

⁹ונתון הלבוש והסוס על יד איש משרי המלך הפרתמים והלבישו את האיש אשר המלך חפץ ביקרו והרכיבהו על הסוס ברחוב העיר וקראו לפניו ככה יעשה לאיש אשר המלך חפץ ביקרו׃

¹⁰Then the king said to Haman, Make haste, and take the apparel and the horse, as thou hast said, and do even so to Mordecai the Jew, that sitteth at the king's gate: let nothing fail of all that thou hast spoken.

¹⁰Le roi dit à Haman: Prends tout de suite le vêtement et le cheval, comme tu l'as dit, et fais ainsi pour Mardochée, le Juif, qui est assis à la porte du roi; ne néglige rien de tout ce que tu as mentionné.

¹⁰ויאמר המלך להמן מהר קח את הלבוש ואת הסוס כאשר דברת ועשה כן למרדכי היהודי היושב בשער המלך אל תפל דבר מכל אשר דברת׃

¹¹Then took Haman the apparel and the horse, and arrayed Mordecai, and caused him to ride through the street of the city, and proclaimed before him, Thus shall it be done unto the man whom the king delighteth to honor.

¹¹Et Haman prit le vêtement et le cheval, il revêtit Mardochée, il le promena à cheval à travers la place de la ville, et il cria devant lui: C'est ainsi que l'on fait à l'homme que le roi veut honorer!

¹¹ויקח המן את הלבוש ואת הסוס וילבש את מרדכי וירכיבהו ברחוב העיר ויקרא לפניו ככה יעשה לאיש אשר המלך חפץ ביקרו׃

¹²And Mordecai came again to the king's gate. But Haman hasted to his house, mourning and having his head covered.

¹²Mardochée retourna à la porte du roi, et Haman se rendit en hâte chez lui, désolé et la tête voilée.

¹²וישב מרדכי אל שער המלך והמן נדחף אל ביתו אבל וחפוי ראש׃

¹³And Haman recounted unto Zeresh his wife and all his friends everything that had befallen him. Then said his wise men and Zeresh his wife unto him, If Mordecai, before whom thou hast begun to fall, be of the seed of the Jews, thou shalt not prevail against him, but shalt surely fall before him.

¹³Haman raconta à Zéresch, sa femme, et à tous ses amis, tout ce qui lui était arrivé. Et ses sages, et Zéresch, sa femme, lui dirent: Si Mardochée, devant lequel tu as commencé de tomber, est de la race des Juifs, tu ne pourras rien contre lui, mais tu tomberas devant lui.

¹³ויספר המן לזרש אשתו ולכל אהביו את כל אשר קרהו ויאמרו לו חכמיו וזרש אשתו אם מזרע היהודים מרדכי אשר החלות לנפל לפניו לא תוכל לו כי נפול תפול לפניו׃

¹⁴While they were yet talking with him, came the king's chamberlains, and hasted to bring Haman unto the banquet that Esther had prepared.

¹⁴Comme ils lui parlaient encore, les eunuques du roi arrivèrent et conduisirent aussitôt Haman au festin qu'Esther avait préparé.

¹⁴עודם מדברים עמו וסריסי המלך הגיעו ויבהלו להביא את המן אל המשתה אשר עשתה אסתר׃
