1And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to the commandment of Jehovah, and encamped in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.
1Toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël partit du désert de Sin, selon les marches que l'Eternel leur avait ordonnées; et ils campèrent à Rephidim, où le peuple ne trouva point d'eau à boire.
1ויסעו כל עדת בני ישראל ממדבר סין למסעיהם על פי יהוה ויחנו ברפידים ואין מים לשתת העם׃
2Wherefore the people stove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?
2Alors le peuple chercha querelle à Moïse. Ils dirent: Donnez-nous de l'eau à boire. Moïse leur répondit: Pourquoi me cherchez-vous querelle? Pourquoi tentez-vous l'Eternel?
2וירב העם עם משה ויאמרו תנו לנו מים ונשתה ויאמר להם משה מה תריבון עמדי מה תנסון את יהוה׃
3And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?
3Le peuple était là, pressé par la soif, et murmurait contre Moïse. Il disait: Pourquoi nous as-tu fait monter hors d'Egypte, pour me faire mourir de soif avec mes enfants et mes troupeaux?
3ויצמא שם העם למים וילן העם על משה ויאמר למה זה העליתנו ממצרים להמית אתי ואת בני ואת מקני בצמא׃
4And Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, What shall I do unto this people? They are almost ready to stone me.
4Moïse cria à l'Eternel, en disant: Que ferai-je à ce peuple? Encore un peu, et ils me lapideront.
4ויצעק משה אל יהוה לאמר מה אעשה לעם הזה עוד מעט וסקלני׃
5And Jehovah said unto Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and they rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go.
5L'Eternel dit à Moïse: Passe devant le peuple, et prends avec toi des anciens d'Israël; prends aussi dans ta main ta verge avec laquelle tu as frappé le fleuve, et marche!
5ויאמר יהוה אל משה עבר לפני העם וקח אתך מזקני ישראל ומטך אשר הכית בו את היאר קח בידך והלכת׃
6Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.
6Voici, je me tiendrai devant toi sur le rocher d'Horeb; tu frapperas le rocher, et il en sortira de l'eau, et le peuple boira. Et Moïse fit ainsi, aux yeux des anciens d'Israël.
6הנני עמד לפניך שם על הצור בחרב והכית בצור ויצאו ממנו מים ושתה העם ויעש כן משה לעיני זקני ישראל׃
7And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?
7Il donna à ce lieu le nom de Massa et Meriba, parce que les enfants d'Israël avaient contesté, et parce qu'ils avaient tenté l'Eternel, en disant: L'Eternel est-il au milieu de nous, ou n'y est-il pas?
7ויקרא שם המקום מסה ומריבה על ריב בני ישראל ועל נסתם את יהוה לאמר היש יהוה בקרבנו אם אין׃
8Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.
8Amalek vint combattre Israël à Rephidim.
8ויבא עמלק וילחם עם ישראל ברפידם׃
9And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.
9Alors Moïse dit à Josué: Choisis-nous des hommes, sors, et combats Amalek; demain je me tiendrai sur le sommet de la colline, la verge de Dieu dans ma main.
9ויאמר משה אל יהושע בחר לנו אנשים וצא הלחם בעמלק מחר אנכי נצב על ראש הגבעה ומטה האלהים בידי׃
10So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.
10Josué fit ce que lui avait dit Moïse, pour combattre Amalek. Et Moïse, Aaron et Hur montèrent au sommet de la colline.
10ויעש יהושע כאשר אמר לו משה להלחם בעמלק ומשה אהרן וחור עלו ראש הגבעה׃
11And it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.
11Lorsque Moïse élevait sa main, Israël était le plus fort; et lorsqu'il baissait sa main, Amalek était le plus fort.
11והיה כאשר ירים משה ידו וגבר ישראל וכאשר יניח ידו וגבר עמלק׃
12But Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.
12Les mains de Moïse étant fatiguées, ils prirent une pierre qu'ils placèrent sous lui, et il s'assit dessus. Aaron et Hur soutenaient ses mains, l'un d'un côté, l'autre de l'autre; et ses mains restèrent fermes jusqu'au coucher du soleil.
12וידי משה כבדים ויקחו אבן וישימו תחתיו וישב עליה ואהרן וחור תמכו בידיו מזה אחד ומזה אחד ויהי ידיו אמונה עד בא השמש׃
13And Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.
13Et Josué vainquit Amalek et son peuple, au tranchant de l'épée.
13ויחלש יהושע את עמלק ואת עמו לפי חרב׃
14And Jehovah said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.
14L'Eternel dit à Moïse: Ecris cela dans le livre, pour que le souvenir s'en conserve, et déclare à Josué que j'effacerai la mémoire d'Amalek de dessous les cieux.
14ויאמר יהוה אל משה כתב זאת זכרון בספר ושים באזני יהושע כי מחה אמחה את זכר עמלק מתחת השמים׃
15And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi;
15Moïse bâtit un autel, et lui donna pour nom: l'Eternel ma bannière.
15ויבן משה מזבח ויקרא שמו יהוה נסי׃
16And he said, Jehovah hath sworn: Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.
16Il dit: Parce que la main a été levée sur le trône de l'Eternel, il y aura guerre de l'Eternel contre Amalek, de génération en génération.
16ויאמר כי יד על כס יה מלחמה ליהוה בעמלק מדר דר׃
