¹Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

¹Quelques-uns des anciens d'Israël vinrent auprès de moi et s'assirent devant moi.

¹ויבוא אלי אנשים מזקני ישראל וישבו לפני׃

²And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

²Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

²ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

³Son of man, these men have taken their idols into their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them?

³Fils de l'homme, ces gens-là portent leurs idoles dans leur coeur, et ils attachent les regards sur ce qui les a fait tomber dans l'iniquité. Me laisserai-je consulter par eux?

³בן אדם האנשים האלה העלו גלוליהם על לבם ומכשול עונם נתנו נכח פניהם האדרש אדרש להם׃

⁴Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Every man of the house of Israel that taketh his idols into his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I Jehovah will answer him therein according to the multitude of his idols;

⁴C'est pourquoi parle-leur, et dis-leur: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Tout homme de la maison d'Israël qui porte ses idoles dans son coeur, et qui attache les regards sur ce qui l'a fait tomber dans son iniquité, -s'il vient s'adresser au prophète, -moi, l'Eternel, je lui répondrai, malgré la multitude de ses idoles,

⁴לכן דבר אותם ואמרת אליהם כה אמר אדני יהוה איש איש מבית ישראל אשר יעלה את גלוליו אל לבו ומכשול עונו ישים נכח פניו ובא אל הנביא אני יהוה נעניתי לו בה ברב גלוליו׃

⁵that I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

⁵afin de saisir dans leur propre coeur ceux de la maison d'Israël qui se sont éloignés de moi avec toutes leurs idoles.

⁵למען תפש את בית ישראל בלבם אשר נזרו מעלי בגלוליהם כלם׃

⁶Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Return ye, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

⁶C'est pourquoi dis à la maison d'Israël: Ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Revenez, et détournez-vous de vos idoles, détournez les regards de toutes vos abominations!

⁶לכן אמר אל בית ישראל כה אמר אדני יהוה שובו והשיבו מעל גלוליכם ומעל כל תועבתיכם השיבו פניכם׃

⁷For every one of the house of Israel, or of the strangers that sojourn in Israel, that separateth himself from me, and taketh his idols into his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet to inquire for himself of me; I Jehovah will answer him by myself:

⁷Car tout homme de la maison d'Israël, ou des étrangers séjournant en Israël, qui s'est éloigné de moi, qui porte ses idoles dans son coeur, et qui attache les regards sur ce qui l'a fait tomber dans son iniquité, -s'il vient s'adresser au prophète pour me consulter par lui, -moi, l'Eternel, je lui répondrai par moi.

⁷כי איש איש מבית ישראל ומהגר אשר יגור בישראל וינזר מאחרי ויעל גלוליו אל לבו ומכשול עונו ישים נכח פניו ובא אל הנביא לדרש לו בי אני יהוה נענה לו בי׃

⁸and I will set my face against that man, and will make him an astonishment, for a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah.

⁸Je tournerai ma face contre cet homme, je ferai de lui un signe et un sujet de sarcasme, et je l'exterminerai du milieu de mon peuple. Et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel.

⁸ונתתי פני באיש ההוא והשמתיהו לאות ולמשלים והכרתיו מתוך עמי וידעתם כי אני יהוה׃

⁹And if the prophet be deceived and speak a word, I, Jehovah, have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

⁹Si le prophète se laisse séduire, s'il prononce une parole, c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui aurai séduit ce prophète; j'étendrai ma main contre lui, et je le détruirai du milieu de mon peuple d'Israël.

⁹והנביא כי יפתה ודבר דבר אני יהוה פתיתי את הנביא ההוא ונטיתי את ידי עליו והשמדתיו מתוך עמי ישראל׃

¹⁰And they shall bear their iniquity: the iniquity of the prophet shall be even as the iniquity of him that seeketh [unto him];

¹⁰Ils porteront ainsi la peine de leur iniquité; la peine du prophète sera comme la peine de celui qui consulte,

¹⁰ונשאו עונם כעון הדרש כעון הנביא יהיה׃

¹¹that the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither defile themselves any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord Jehovah.

¹¹afin que la maison d'Israël ne s'égare plus loin de moi, et qu'elle ne se souille plus par toutes ses transgressions. Alors ils seront mon peuple, et je serai leur Dieu, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

¹¹למען לא יתעו עוד בית ישראל מאחרי ולא יטמאו עוד בכל פשעיהם והיו לי לעם ואני אהיה להם לאלהים נאם אדני יהוה׃

¹²And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

¹²La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée, en ces mots:

¹²ויהי דבר יהוה אלי לאמר׃

¹³Son of man, when a land sinneth against me by committing a trespass, and I stretch out my hand upon it, and break the staff of the bread thereof, and send famine upon it, and cut off from it man and beast;

¹³Fils de l'homme, lorsqu'un pays pécherait contre moi en se livrant à l'infidélité, et que j'étendrais ma main sur lui, -si je brisais pour lui le bâton du pain, si je lui envoyais la famine, si j'en exterminais les hommes et les bêtes,

¹³בן אדם ארץ כי תחטא לי למעל מעל ונטיתי ידי עליה ושברתי לה מטה לחם והשלחתי בה רעב והכרתי ממנה אדם ובהמה׃

¹⁴though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord Jehovah.

¹⁴et qu'il y eût au milieu de lui ces trois hommes, Noé, Daniel et Job, ils sauveraient leur âme par leur justice, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

¹⁴והיו שלשת האנשים האלה בתוכה נח דנאל ואיוב המה בצדקתם ינצלו נפשם נאם אדני יהוה׃

¹⁵If I cause evil beasts to pass through the land, and they ravage it, and it be made desolate, so that no man may pass through because of the beasts;

¹⁵Si je faisais parcourir le pays par des bêtes féroces qui le dépeupleraient, s'il devenait un désert où personne ne passerait à cause de ces bêtes,

¹⁵לו חיה רעה אעביר בארץ ושכלתה והיתה שממה מבלי עובר מפני החיה׃

¹⁶though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only should be delivered, but the land should be desolate.

¹⁶et qu'il y eût au milieu de lui ces trois hommes, je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel, ils ne sauveraient ni fils ni filles, eux seuls seraient sauvés, et le pays deviendrait un désert.

¹⁶שלשת האנשים האלה בתוכה חי אני נאם אדני יהוה אם בנים ואם בנות יצילו המה לבדם ינצלו והארץ תהיה שממה׃

¹⁷Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off from it man and beast;

¹⁷Ou si j'amenais l'épée contre ce pays, si je disais: Que l'épée parcoure le pays! si j'en exterminais les hommes et les bêtes,

¹⁷או חרב אביא על הארץ ההיא ואמרתי חרב תעבר בארץ והכרתי ממנה אדם ובהמה׃

¹⁸though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only should be delivered themselves.

¹⁸et qu'il y eût au milieu de lui ces trois hommes, je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel, ils ne sauveraient ni fils ni filles, mais eux seuls seraient sauvés.

¹⁸ושלשת האנשים האלה בתוכה חי אני נאם אדני יהוה לא יצילו בנים ובנות כי הם לבדם ינצלו׃

¹⁹Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my wrath upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast;

¹⁹Ou si j'envoyais la peste dans ce pays, si je répandais contre lui ma fureur par la mortalité, pour en exterminer les hommes et les bêtes,

¹⁹או דבר אשלח אל הארץ ההיא ושפכתי חמתי עליה בדם להכרית ממנה אדם ובהמה׃

²⁰though Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, as I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, they should deliver neither son nor daughter; they should but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

²⁰et qu'il y eût au milieu de lui Noé, Daniel et Job, je suis vivant! dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel, ils ne sauveraient ni fils ni filles, mais ils sauveraient leur âme par leur justice.

²⁰ונח דנאל ואיוב בתוכה חי אני נאם אדני יהוה אם בן אם בת יצילו המה בצדקתם יצילו נפשם׃

²¹For thus saith the Lord Jehovah: How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the evil beasts, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast!

²¹Oui, ainsi parle le Seigneur, l'Eternel: Quoique j'envoie contre Jérusalem mes quatre châtiments terribles, l'épée, la famine, les bêtes féroces et la peste, pour en exterminer les hommes et les bêtes,

²¹כי כה אמר אדני יהוה אף כי ארבעת שפטי הרעים חרב ורעב וחיה רעה ודבר שלחתי אל ירושלם להכרית ממנה אדם ובהמה׃

²²Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be carried forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings; and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

²²il y aura néanmoins un reste qui échappera, qui en sortira, des fils et des filles. Voici, ils arriveront auprès de vous; vous verrez leur conduite et leurs actions, et vous vous consolerez du malheur que je fais venir sur Jérusalem, de tout ce que je fais venir sur elle.

²²והנה נותרה בה פלטה המוצאים בנים ובנות הנם יוצאים אליכם וראיתם את דרכם ואת עלילותם ונחמתם על הרעה אשר הבאתי על ירושלם את כל אשר הבאתי עליה׃

²³And they shall comfort you, when ye see their way and their doings; and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord Jehovah.

²³Ils vous consoleront, quand vous verrez leur conduite et leurs actions; et vous reconnaîtrez que ce n'est pas sans raison que je fais tout ce que je lui fais, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

²³ונחמו אתכם כי תראו את דרכם ואת עלילותם וידעתם כי לא חנם עשיתי את כל אשר עשיתי בה נאם אדני יהוה׃
