¹Now these are the heads of their fathers' [houses], and this is the genealogy of them that went up with me from Babylon, in the reign of Artaxerxes the king:

³Of the sons of Shecaniah, of the sons of Parosh, Zechariah; and with him were reckoned by genealogy of the males a hundred and fifty.

⁴Of the sons of Pahath-moab, Eliehoenai the son of Zerahiah; and with him two hundred males.

⁶And of the sons of Adin, Ebed the son of Jonathan; and with him fifty males.

⁶des fils d'Adin, Ebed, fils de Jonathan, et avec lui cinquante mâles;

⁶ומבני עדין עבד בן יונתן ועמו חמשים הזכרים׃

⁷And of the sons of Elam, Jeshaiah the son of Athaliah; and with him seventy males.

⁷des fils d'Elam, Esaïe, fils d'Athalia, et avec lui soixante-dix mâles;

⁷ומבני עילם ישעיה בן עתליה ועמו שבעים הזכרים׃

⁸And of the sons of Shephatiah, Zebadiah the son of Michael; and with him fourscore males.

⁸ומבני שפטיה זבדיה בן מיכאל ועמו שמנים הזכרים׃

⁹Of the sons of Joab, Obadiah the son of Jehiel; and with him two hundred and eighteen males.

¹⁰And of the sons of Shelomith, the son of Josiphiah; and with him a hundred and threescore males.

¹¹And of the sons of Bebai, Zechariah the son of Bebai; and with him twenty and eight males.

¹¹des fils de Bébaï, Zacharie, fils de Bébaï, et avec lui vingt-huit mâles;

¹¹ומבני בבי זכריה בן בבי ועמו עשרים ושמנה הזכרים׃

¹²And of the sons of Azgad, Johanan the son of Hakkatan; and with him a hundred and ten males.

¹²des fils d'Azgad, Jochanan, fils d'Hakkathan, et avec lui cent dix mâles;

¹²ומבני עזגד יוחנן בן הקטן ועמו מאה ועשרה הזכרים׃

¹³And of the sons of Adonikam, [that were] the last; and these are their names: Eliphelet, Jeuel, and Shemaiah; and with them threescore males.

¹³des fils d'Adonikam, les derniers, dont voici les noms: Eliphéleth, Jeïel et Schemaeja, et avec eux soixante mâles;

¹⁴And of the sons of Bigvai, Uthai and Zabbud; and with them seventy males.

¹⁴des fils de Bigvaï, Uthaï et Zabbud, et avec eux soixante-dix mâles.

¹⁴ומבני בגוי עותי וזבוד ועמו שבעים הזכרים׃

¹⁵And I gathered them together to the river that runneth to Ahava; and there we encamped three days: and I viewed the people, and the priests, and found there none of the sons of Levi.

¹⁵Je les rassemblai près du fleuve qui coule vers Ahava, et nous campâmes là trois jours. Je dirigeai mon attention sur le peuple et sur les sacrificateurs, et je ne trouvai là aucun des fils de Lévi.

¹⁵ואקבצם אל הנהר הבא אל אהוא ונחנה שם ימים שלשה ואבינה בעם ובכהנים ומבני לוי לא מצאתי שם׃

¹⁶Then sent I for Eliezer, for Ariel, for Shemaiah, and for Elnathan, and for Jarib, and for Elnathan, and for Nathan, and for Zechariah, and for Meshullam, chief men; also for Joiarib, and for Elnathan, who were teachers.

¹⁶Alors je fis appeler les chefs Eliézer, Ariel, Schemaeja, Elnathan, Jarib, Elnathan, Nathan, Zacharie et Meschullam, et les docteurs Jojarib et Elnathan.

¹⁶ואשלחה לאליעזר לאריאל לשמעיה ולאלנתן וליריב ולאלנתן ולנתן ולזכריה ולמשלם ראשים וליויריב ולאלנתן מבינים׃

¹⁷And I sent them forth unto Iddo the chief at the place Casiphia; and I told them what they should say unto Iddo, [and] his brethren the Nethinim, at the place Casiphia, that they should bring unto us ministers for the house of our God.

¹⁷Je les envoyai vers le chef Iddo, demeurant à Casiphia, et je mis dans leur bouche ce qu'ils devaient dire à Iddo et à ses frères les Néthiniens qui étaient à Casiphia, afin qu'ils nous amenassent des serviteurs pour la maison de notre Dieu.

¹⁷ואוצאה אותם על אדו הראש בכספיא המקום ואשימה בפיהם דברים לדבר אל אדו אחיו הנתונים בכספיא המקום להביא לנו משרתים לבית אלהינו׃

¹⁸And according to the good hand of our God upon us they brought us a man of discretion, of the sons of Mahli, the son of Levi, the son of Israel; and Sherebiah, with his sons and his brethren, eighteen;

¹⁸Et, comme la bonne main de notre Dieu était sur nous, ils nous amenèrent Schérébia, homme de sens, d'entre les fils de Machli, fils de Lévi, fils d'Israël, et avec lui ses fils et ses frères, au nombre de dix-huit;

¹⁸ויביאו לנו כיד אלהינו הטובה עלינו איש שכל מבני מחלי בן לוי בן ישראל ושרביה ובניו ואחיו שמנה עשר׃

¹⁹and Hashabiah, and with him Jeshaiah of the sons of Merari, his brethren and their sons, twenty;

¹⁹Haschabia, et avec lui Esaïe, d'entre les fils de Merari, ses frères et leurs fils, au nombre de vingt;

¹⁹ואת חשביה ואתו ישעיה מבני מררי אחיו ובניהם עשרים׃

²⁰and of the Nethinim, whom David and the princes had given for the service of the Levites, two hundred and twenty Nethinim: all of them were mentioned by name.

²⁰et d'entre les Néthiniens, que David et les chefs avaient mis au service des Lévites, deux cent vingt Néthiniens, tous désignés par leurs noms.

²⁰ומן הנתינים שנתן דויד והשרים לעבדת הלוים נתינים מאתים ועשרים כלם נקבו בשמות׃

²¹Then I proclaimed a fast there, at the river Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek of him a straight way for us, and for our little ones, and for all our substance.

²¹Là, près du fleuve d'Ahava, je publiai un jeûne d'humiliation devant notre Dieu, afin d'implorer de lui un heureux voyage pour nous, pour nos enfants, et pour tout ce qui nous appartenait.

²¹ואקרא שם צום על הנהר אהוא להתענות לפני אלהינו לבקש ממנו דרך ישרה לנו ולטפנו ולכל רכושנו׃

²²For I was ashamed to ask of the king a band of soldiers and horsemen to help us against the enemy in the way, because we had spoken unto the king, saying, The hand of our God is upon all them that seek him, for good; but his power and his wrath is against all them that forsake him.

²²J'aurais eu honte de demander au roi une escorte et des cavaliers pour nous protéger contre l'ennemi pendant la route, car nous avions dit au roi: La main de notre Dieu est pour leur bien sur tous ceux qui le cherchent, mais sa force et sa colère sont sur tous ceux qui l'abandonnent.

²²כי בשתי לשאול מן המלך חיל ופרשים לעזרנו מאויב בדרך כי אמרנו למלך לאמר יד אלהינו על כל מבקשיו לטובה ועזו ואפו על כל עזביו׃

²³So we fasted and besought our God for this: and he was entreated of us.

²³C'est à cause de cela que nous jeûnâmes et que nous invoquâmes notre Dieu. Et il nous exauça.

²³ונצומה ונבקשה מאלהינו על זאת ויעתר לנו׃

²⁴Then I set apart twelve of the chiefs of the priests, even Sherebiah, Hashabiah, and ten of their brethren with them,

²⁴Je choisis douze chefs des sacrificateurs, Schérébia, Haschabia, et dix de leurs frères.

²⁴ואבדילה משרי הכהנים שנים עשר לשרביה חשביה ועמהם מאחיהם עשרה׃

²⁵and weighed unto them the silver, and the gold, and the vessels, even the offering for the house of our God, which the king, and his counsellors, and his princes, and all Israel there present, had offered:

²⁵Je pesai devant eux l'argent, l'or, et les ustensiles, donnés en offrande pour la maison de notre Dieu par le roi, ses conseillers et ses chefs, et par tous ceux d'Israël qu'on avait trouvés.

²⁵ואשקולה להם את הכסף ואת הזהב ואת הכלים תרומת בית אלהינו ההרימו המלך ויעציו ושריו וכל ישראל הנמצאים׃

²⁶I weighed into their hand six hundred and fifty talents of silver, and silver vessels a hundred talents; of gold a hundred talents;

²⁶Je remis entre leurs mains six cent cinquante talents d'argent, des ustensiles d'argent pour cent talents, cent talents d'or,

²⁶ואשקלה על ידם כסף ככרים שש מאות וחמשים וכלי כסף מאה לככרים זהב מאה ככר׃

²⁷and twenty bowls of gold, of a thousand darics; and two vessels of fine bright brass, precious as gold.

²⁷vingt coupes d'or valant mille dariques, et deux vases d'un bel airain poli, aussi précieux que l'or.

²⁷וכפרי זהב עשרים לאדרכנים אלף וכלי נחשת מצהב טובה שנים חמודת כזהב׃

²⁸And I said unto them, Ye are holy unto Jehovah, and the vessels are holy; and the silver and the gold are a freewill-offering unto Jehovah, the God of your fathers.

²⁸Puis je leur dis: Vous êtes consacrés à l'Eternel; ces ustensiles sont des choses saintes, et cet argent et cet or sont une offrande volontaire à l'Eternel, le Dieu de vos pères.

²⁸ואמרה אלהם אתם קדש ליהוה והכלים קדש והכסף והזהב נדבה ליהוה אלהי אבתיכם׃

²⁹Watch ye, and keep them, until ye weigh them before the chiefs of the priests and the Levites, and the princes of the fathers' [houses] of Israel, at Jerusalem, in the chambers of the house of Jehovah.

²⁹Soyez vigilants, et prenez cela sous votre garde, jusqu'à ce que vous le pesiez devant les chefs des sacrificateurs et les Lévites, et devant les chefs de familles d'Israël, à Jérusalem, dans les chambres de la maison de l'Eternel.

²⁹שקדו ושמרו עד תשקלו לפני שרי הכהנים והלוים ושרי האבות לישראל בירושלם הלשכות בית יהוה׃

³⁰So the priests and the Levites received the weight of the silver and the gold, and the vessels, to bring them to Jerusalem unto the house of our God.

³⁰Et les sacrificateurs et les Lévites reçurent au poids l'argent, l'or et les ustensiles, pour les porter à Jérusalem, dans la maison de notre Dieu.

³⁰וקבלו הכהנים והלוים משקל הכסף והזהב והכלים להביא לירושלם לבית אלהינו׃

³¹Then we departed from the river Ahava on the twelfth [day] of the first month, to go unto Jerusalem: and the hand of our God was upon us, and he delivered us from the hand of the enemy and the lier-in-wait by the way.

³¹Nous partîmes du fleuve d'Ahava pour nous rendre à Jérusalem, le douzième jour du premier mois. La main de notre Dieu fut sur nous et nous préserva des attaques de l'ennemi et de toute embûche pendant la route.

³¹ונסעה מנהר אהוא בשנים עשר לחדש הראשון ללכת ירושלם ויד אלהינו היתה עלינו ויצילנו מכף אויב ואורב על הדרך׃

³²And we came to Jerusalem, and abode there three days.

³²Nous arrivâmes à Jérusalem, et nous nous y reposâmes trois jours.

³²ונבוא ירושלם ונשב שם ימים שלשה׃

³³And on the fourth day the silver and the gold and the vessels were weighed in the house of our God into the hand of Meremoth the son of Uriah the priest; and with him was Eleazar the son of Phinehas; and with them was Jozabad the son of Jeshua, and Noadiah the son of Binnui, the Levite;

³³Le quatrième jour, nous pesâmes dans la maison de notre Dieu l'argent, l'or, et les ustensiles, que nous remîmes à Merémoth, fils d'Urie, le sacrificateur; il y avait avec lui Eléazar, fils de Phinées, et avec eux les Lévites Jozabad, fils de Josué, et Noadia, fils de Binnuï.

³³וביום הרביעי נשקל הכסף והזהב והכלים בבית אלהינו על יד מרמות בן אוריה הכהן ועמו אלעזר בן פינחס ועמהם יוזבד בן ישוע ונועדיה בן בנוי הלוים׃

³⁴the whole by number and by weight: and all the weight was written at that time.

³⁴Le tout ayant été vérifié, soit pour le nombre, soit pour le poids, on mit alors par écrit le poids du tout.

³⁴במספר במשקל לכל ויכתב כל המשקל בעת ההיא׃

³⁵The children of the captivity, that were come out of exile, offered burnt-offerings unto the God of Israel, twelve bullocks for all Israel, ninety and six rams, seventy and seven lambs, twelve he-goats for a sin-offering: all this was a burnt-offering unto Jehovah.

³⁵Les fils de la captivité revenus de l'exil offrirent en holocauste au Dieu d'Israël douze taureaux pour tout Israël, quatre-vingt-seize béliers, soixante-dix-sept agneaux, et douze boucs comme victimes expiatoires, le tout en holocauste à l'Eternel.

³⁵הבאים מהשבי בני הגולה הקריבו עלות לאלהי ישראל פרים שנים עשר על כל ישראל אילים תשעים וששה כבשים שבעים ושבעה צפירי חטאת שנים עשר הכל עולה ליהוה׃

³⁶And they delivered the king's commissions unto the king's satraps, and to the governors beyond the River: and they furthered the people and the house of God.

³⁶Ils transmirent les ordres du roi aux satrapes du roi et aux gouverneurs de ce côté du fleuve, lesquels honorèrent le peuple et la maison de Dieu.

³⁶ויתנו את דתי המלך לאחשדרפני המלך ופחוות עבר הנהר ונשאו את העם ואת בית האלהים׃
