¹In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, saying,

¹La seconde année du roi Darius, le premier jour du sixième mois, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée par Aggée, le prophète, à Zorobabel, fils de Schealthiel, gouverneur de Juda, et à Josué, fils de Jotsadak, le souverain sacrificateur, en ces mots:

¹בשנת שתים לדריוש המלך בחדש הששי ביום אחד לחדש היה דבר יהוה ביד חגי הנביא אל זרבבל בן שאלתיאל פחת יהודה ואל יהושע בן יהוצדק הכהן הגדול לאמר׃

²Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, saying, This people say, It is not the time [for us] to come, the time for Jehovah's house to be built.

²Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Ce peuple dit: Le temps n'est pas venu, le temps de rebâtir la maison de l'Eternel.

²כה אמר יהוה צבאות לאמר העם הזה אמרו לא עת בא עת בית יהוה להבנות׃

³Then came the word of Jehovah by Haggai the prophet, saying,

³C'est pourquoi la parole de l'Eternel leur fut adressée par Aggée, le prophète, en ces mots:

³ויהי דבר יהוה ביד חגי הנביא לאמר׃

⁴Is it a time for you yourselves to dwell in your ceiled houses, while this house lieth waste?

⁴Est-ce le temps pour vous d'habiter vos demeures lambrissées, Quand cette maison est détruite?

⁴העת לכם אתם לשבת בבתיכם ספונים והבית הזה חרב׃

⁵Now therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

⁵Ainsi parle maintenant l'Eternel des armées: Considérez attentivement vos voies!

⁵ועתה כה אמר יהוה צבאות שימו לבבכם על דרכיכם׃

⁶Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages [to put it] into a bag with holes.

⁶Vous semez beaucoup, et vous recueillez peu, Vous mangez, et vous n'êtes pas rassasiés, Vous buvez, et vous n'êtes pas désaltérés, Vous êtes vêtus, et vous n'avez pas chaud; Le salaire de celui qui est à gages tombe dans un sac percé.

⁶זרעתם הרבה והבא מעט אכול ואין לשבעה שתו ואין לשכרה לבוש ואין לחם לו והמשתכר משתכר אל צרור נקוב׃

⁷Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Consider your ways.

⁷Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Considérez attentivement vos voies!

⁷כה אמר יהוה צבאות שימו לבבכם על דרכיכם׃

⁸Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith Jehovah.

⁸Montez sur la montagne, apportez du bois, Et bâtissez la maison: J'en aurai de la joie, et je serai glorifié, Dit l'Eternel.

⁸עלו ההר והבאתם עץ ובנו הבית וארצה בו ואכבד אמר יהוה׃

⁹Ye looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith Jehovah of hosts. Because of my house that lieth waste, while ye run every man to his own house.

⁹Vous comptiez sur beaucoup, et voici, vous avez eu peu; Vous l'avez rentré chez vous, mais j'ai soufflé dessus. Pourquoi? dit l'Eternel des armées. A cause de ma maison, qui est détruite, Tandis que vous vous empressez chacun pour sa maison.

⁹פנה אל הרבה והנה למעט והבאתם הבית ונפחתי בו יען מה נאם יהוה צבאות יען ביתי אשר הוא חרב ואתם רצים איש לביתו׃

¹⁰Therefore for your sake the heavens withhold the dew, and the earth withholdeth its fruit.

¹⁰C'est pourquoi les cieux vous ont refusé la rosée, Et la terre a refusé ses produits.

¹⁰על כן עליכם כלאו שמים מטל והארץ כלאה יבולה׃

¹¹And I called for a drought upon the land, and upon the mountains, and upon the grain, and upon the new wine, and upon the oil, and upon that which the ground bringeth forth, and upon men, and upon cattle, and upon all the labor of the hands.

¹¹J'ai appelé la sécheresse sur le pays, sur les montagnes, Sur le blé, sur le moût, sur l'huile, Sur ce que la terre peut rapporter, Sur les hommes et sur les bêtes, Et sur tout le travail des mains.

¹¹ואקרא חרב על הארץ ועל ההרים ועל הדגן ועל התירוש ועל היצהר ועל אשר תוציא האדמה ועל האדם ועל הבהמה ועל כל יגיע כפים׃

¹²Then Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, with all the remnant of the people, obeyed the voice of Jehovah their God, and the words of Haggai the prophet, as Jehovah their God had sent him; and the people did fear before Jehovah.

¹²Zorobabel, fils de Schealthiel, Josué, fils de Jotsadak, le souverain sacrificateur, et tout le reste du peuple, entendirent la voix de l'Eternel, leur Dieu, et les paroles d'Aggée, le prophète, selon la mission que lui avait donnée l'Eternel, leur Dieu. Et le peuple fut saisi de crainte devant l'Eternel.

¹²וישמע זרבבל בן שלתיאל ויהושע בן יהוצדק הכהן הגדול וכל שארית העם בקול יהוה אלהיהם ועל דברי חגי הנביא כאשר שלחו יהוה אלהיהם וייראו העם מפני יהוה׃

¹³Then spake Haggai Jehovah's messenger in Jehovah's message unto the people, saying, I am with you, saith Jehovah.

¹³Aggée, envoyé de l'Eternel, dit au peuple, d'après l'ordre de l'Eternel: Je suis avec vous, dit l'Eternel.

¹³ויאמר חגי מלאך יהוה במלאכות יהוה לעם לאמר אני אתכם נאם יהוה׃

¹⁴And Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the spirit of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and the spirit of all the remnant of the people; and they came and did work on the house of Jehovah of hosts, their God,

¹⁴L'Eternel réveilla l'esprit de Zorobabel, fils de Schealthiel, gouverneur de Juda, et l'esprit de Josué, fils de Jotsadak, le souverain sacrificateur, et l'esprit de tout le reste du peuple. Ils vinrent, et ils se mirent à l'oeuvre dans la maison de l'Eternel des armées, leur Dieu,

¹⁴ויער יהוה את רוח זרבבל בן שלתיאל פחת יהודה ואת רוח יהושע בן יהוצדק הכהן הגדול ואת רוח כל שארית העם ויבאו ויעשו מלאכה בבית יהוה צבאות אלהיהם׃

¹⁵in the four and twentieth day of the month, in the sixth [month], in the second year of Darius the king.

¹⁵ביום עשרים וארבעה לחדש בששי בשנת שתים לדריוש המלך׃
