¹Israel is a luxuriant vine, that putteth forth his fruit: according to the abundance of his fruit he hath multiplied his altars; according to the goodness of their land they have made goodly pillars.

¹Israël était une vigne féconde, Qui rendait beaucoup de fruits. Plus ses fruits étaient abondants, Plus il a multiplié les autels; Plus son pays était prospère, Plus il a embelli les statues.

¹גפן בוקק ישראל פרי ישוה לו כרב לפריו הרבה למזבחות כטוב לארצו היטיבו מצבות׃

²Their heart is divided; now shall they be found guilty: he will smite their altars, he will destroy their pillars.

²Leur coeur est partagé: ils vont en porter la peine. L'Eternel renversera leurs autels, détruira leurs statues.

²חלק לבם עתה יאשמו הוא יערף מזבחותם ישדד מצבותם׃

³Surely now shall they say, We have no king; for we fear not Jehovah; and the king, what can he do for us?

³Et bientôt ils diront: Nous n'avons point de roi, Car nous n'avons pas craint l'Eternel; Et le roi, que pourrait-il faire pour nous?

³כי עתה יאמרו אין מלך לנו כי לא יראנו את יהוה והמלך מה יעשה לנו׃

⁴They speak [vain] words, swearing falsely in making covenants: therefore judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.

⁴Ils prononcent des paroles vaines, des serments faux, Lorsqu'ils concluent une alliance: Aussi le châtiment germera, comme une plante vénéneuse Dans les sillons des champs.

⁴דברו דברים אלות שוא כרת ברית ופרח כראש משפט על תלמי שדי׃

⁵The inhabitants of Samaria shall be in terror for the calves of Beth-aven; for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced over it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.

⁵Les habitants de Samarie seront consternés au sujet des veaux de Beth-Aven; Le peuple mènera deuil sur l'idole, Et ses prêtres trembleront pour elle, Pour sa gloire, qui va disparaître du milieu d'eux.

⁵לעגלות בית און יגורו שכן שמרון כי אבל עליו עמו וכמריו עליו יגילו על כבודו כי גלה ממנו׃

⁶It also shall be carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.

⁶Elle sera transportée en Assyrie, Pour servir de présent au roi Jareb. La confusion saisira Ephraïm, Et Israël aura honte de ses desseins.

⁶גם אותו לאשור יובל מנחה למלך ירב בשנה אפרים יקח ויבוש ישראל מעצתו׃

⁷[As for] Samaria, her king is cut off, as foam upon the water.

⁷C'en est fait de Samarie, de son roi, Comme de l'écume à la surface des eaux.

⁷נדמה שמרון מלכה כקצף על פני מים׃

⁸The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.

⁸Les hauts lieux de Beth-Aven, où Israël a péché, seront détruits; L'épine et la ronce croîtront sur leurs autels. Ils diront aux montagnes: Couvrez-nous! Et aux collines: Tombez sur nous!

⁸ונשמדו במות און חטאת ישראל קוץ ודרדר יעלה על מזבחותם ואמרו להרים כסונו ולגבעות נפלו עלינו׃

⁹O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood; the battle against the children of iniquity doth not overtake them in Gibeah.

⁹Depuis les jours de Guibea tu as péché, Israël! Là ils restèrent debout, La guerre contre les méchants ne les atteignit pas à Guibea.

⁹מימי הגבעה חטאת ישראל שם עמדו לא תשיגם בגבעה מלחמה על בני עלוה׃

¹⁰When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the peoples shall be gathered against them, when they are bound to their two transgressions.

¹⁰Je les châtierai à mon gré, Et des peuples s'assembleront contre eux, Quand on les enchaînera pour leur double iniquité.

¹⁰באותי ואסרם ואספו עליהם עמים באסרם לשתי עינתם׃

¹¹And Ephraim is a heifer that is taught, that loveth to tread out [the grain]; but I have passed over upon her fair neck: I will set a rider on Ephraim; Judah shall plow, Jacob shall break his clods.

¹¹Ephraïm est une génisse dressée, et qui aime à fouler le grain, Mais je m'approcherai de son beau cou; J'attellerai Ephraïm, Juda labourera, Jacob hersera.

¹¹ואפרים עגלה מלמדה אהבתי לדוש ואני עברתי על טוב צוארה ארכיב אפרים יחרוש יהודה ישדד לו יעקב׃

¹²Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness; break up your fallow ground; for it is time to seek Jehovah, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.

¹²Semez selon la justice, moissonnez selon la miséricorde, Défrichez-vous un champ nouveau! Il est temps de chercher l'Eternel, Jusqu'à ce qu'il vienne, et répande pour vous la justice.

¹²זרעו לכם לצדקה קצרו לפי חסד נירו לכם ניר ועת לדרוש את יהוה עד יבוא וירה צדק לכם׃

¹³Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies; for thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.

¹³Vous avez cultivé le mal, moissonné l'iniquité, Mangé le fruit du mensonge; Car tu as eu confiance dans ta voie, Dans le nombre de tes vaillants hommes.

¹³חרשתם רשע עולתה קצרתם אכלתם פרי כחש כי בטחת בדרכך ברב גבוריך׃

¹⁴Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces with her children.

¹⁴Il s'élèvera un tumulte parmi ton peuple, Et toutes tes forteresses seront détruites, Comme fut détruite Schalman Beth-Arbel, Au jour de la guerre, Où la mère fut écrasée avec les enfants.

¹⁴וקאם שאון בעמך וכל מבצריך יושד כשד שלמן בית ארבאל ביום מלחמה אם על בנים רטשה׃

¹⁵So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: at daybreak shall the king of Israel be utterly cut off.

¹⁵Voilà ce que vous attirera Béthel, A cause de votre extrême méchanceté, Vienne l'aurore, et c'en est fait du roi d'Israël.

¹⁵ככה עשה לכם בית אל מפני רעת רעתכם בשחר נדמה נדמה מלך ישראל׃
