¹Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he continually multiplieth lies and desolation; and they make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.

¹Ephraïm se repaît de vent, et poursuit le vent d'orient; Chaque jour il multiplie le mensonge et la violence; Il fait alliance avec l'Assyrie, Et on porte de l'huile en Egypte.

¹אפרים רעה רוח ורדף קדים כל היום כזב ושד ירבה וברית עם אשור יכרתו ושמן למצרים יובל׃

²Jehovah hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.

²L'Eternel est aussi en contestation avec Juda, Et il punira Jacob pour sa conduite, Il lui rendra selon ses oeuvres.

²וריב ליהוה עם יהודה ולפקד על יעקב כדרכיו כמעלליו ישיב לו׃

³In the womb he took his brother by the heel; and in his manhood he had power with God:

³Dans le sein maternel Jacob saisit son frère par le talon, Et dans sa vigueur, il lutta avec Dieu.

³בבטן עקב את אחיו ובאונו שרה את אלהים׃

⁴yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him at Beth-el, and there he spake with us,

⁴Il lutta avec l'ange, et il fut vainqueur, Il pleura, et lui adressa des supplications. Jacob l'avait trouvé à Béthel, Et c'est là que Dieu nous a parlé.

⁴וישר אל מלאך ויכל בכה ויתחנן לו בית אל ימצאנו ושם ידבר עמנו׃

⁵even Jehovah, the God of hosts; Jehovah is his memorial [name].

⁵L'Eternel est le Dieu des armées; Son nom est l'Eternel.

⁵ויהוה אלהי הצבאות יהוה זכרו׃

⁶Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep kindness and justice, and wait for thy God continually.

⁶Et toi, reviens à ton Dieu, Garde la piété et la justice, Et espère toujours en ton Dieu.

⁶ואתה באלהיך תשוב חסד ומשפט שמר וקוה אל אלהיך תמיד׃

⁷[He is] a trafficker, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.

⁷Ephraïm est un marchand qui a dans sa main des balances fausses, Il aime à tromper.

⁷כנען בידו מאזני מרמה לעשק אהב׃

⁸And Ephraim said, Surely I am become rich, I have found me wealth: in all my labors they shall find in me no iniquity that were sin.

⁸Et Ephraïm dit: A la vérité, je me suis enrichi, J'ai acquis de la fortune; Mais c'est entièrement le produit de mon travail; On ne trouvera chez moi aucune iniquité, rien qui soit un crime.

⁸ויאמר אפרים אך עשרתי מצאתי און לי כל יגיעי לא ימצאו לי עון אשר חטא׃

⁹But I am Jehovah thy God from the land of Egypt; I will yet again make thee to dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast.

⁹Et moi, je suis l'Eternel, ton Dieu, dès le pays d'Egypte; Je te ferai encore habiter sous des tentes, comme aux jours de fêtes.

⁹ואנכי יהוה אלהיך מארץ מצרים עד אושיבך באהלים כימי מועד׃

¹⁰I have also spoken unto the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets have I used similitudes.

¹⁰J'ai parlé aux prophètes, J'ai multiplié les visions, Et par les prophètes j'ai proposé des paraboles.

¹⁰ודברתי על הנביאים ואנכי חזון הרביתי וביד הנביאים אדמה׃

¹¹Is Gilead iniquity? they are altogether false; in Gilgal they sacrifice bullocks; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the field.

¹¹Si Galaad n'est que néant, ils seront certainement anéantis. Ils sacrifient des boeufs dans Guilgal: Aussi leurs autels seront comme des monceaux de pierres Sur les sillons des champs.

¹¹אם גלעד און אך שוא היו בגלגל שורים זבחו גם מזבחותם כגלים על תלמי שדי׃

¹²And Jacob fled into the field of Aram, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept [sheep].

¹²Jacob s'enfuit au pays d'Aram, Israël servit pour une femme, Et pour une femme il garda les troupeaux.

¹²ויברח יעקב שדה ארם ויעבד ישראל באשה ובאשה שמר׃

¹³And by a prophet Jehovah brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.

¹³Par un prophète l'Eternel fit monter Israël hors d'Egypte, Et par un prophète Israël fut gardé.

¹³ובנביא העלה יהוה את ישראל ממצרים ובנביא נשמר׃

¹⁴Ephraim hath provoked to anger most bitterly: therefore shall his blood be left upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

¹⁴Ephraïm a irrité l'Eternel amèrement: Son Seigneur rejettera sur lui le sang qu'il a répandu, Il fera retomber sur lui la honte qui lui appartient.

¹⁴הכעיס אפרים תמרורים ודמיו עליו יטוש וחרפתו ישיב לו אדניו׃
