¹Woe to the rebellious children, saith Jehovah, that take counsel, but not of me; and that make a league, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin,

¹Malheur, dit l'Eternel, aux enfants rebelles, Qui prennent des résolutions sans moi, Et qui font des alliances sans ma volonté, Pour accumuler péché sur péché!

¹הוי בנים סוררים נאם יהוה לעשות עצה ולא מני ולנסך מסכה ולא רוחי למען ספות חטאת על חטאת׃

²that set out to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt!

²Qui descendent en Egypte sans me consulter, Pour se réfugier sous la protection de Pharaon, Et chercher un abri sous l'ombre de l'Egypte!

²ההלכים לרדת מצרים ופי לא שאלו לעוז במעוז פרעה ולחסות בצל מצרים׃

³Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion.

³La protection de Pharaon sera pour vous une honte, Et l'abri sous l'ombre de l'Egypte une ignominie.

³והיה לכם מעוז פרעה לבשת והחסות בצל מצרים לכלמה׃

⁴For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors are come to Hanes.

⁴Déjà ses princes sont à Tsoan, Et ses envoyés ont atteint Hanès.

⁴כי היו בצען שריו ומלאכיו חנס יגיעו׃

⁵They shall all be ashamed because of a people that cannot profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

⁵Tous seront confus au sujet d'un peuple qui ne leur sera point utile, Ni pour les secourir, ni pour les aider, Mais qui fera leur honte et leur opprobre.

⁵כל הבאיש על עם לא יועילו למו לא לעזר ולא להועיל כי לבשת וגם לחרפה׃

⁶The burden of the beasts of the South. Through the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit [them].

⁶Sentence des bêtes du midi: A travers une contrée de détresse et d'angoisse, D'où viennent la lionne et le lion, La vipère et le dragon volant, Ils portent à dos d'ânes leurs richesses, Et sur la bosse des chameaux leurs trésors, A un peuple qui ne leur sera point utile.

⁶משא בהמות נגב בארץ צרה וצוקה לביא וליש מהם אפעה ושרף מעופף ישאו על כתף עירים חילהם ועל דבשת גמלים אוצרתם על עם לא יועילו׃

⁷For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I called her Rahab that sitteth still.

⁷Car le secours de l'Egypte n'est que vanité et néant; C'est pourquoi j'appelle cela du bruit qui n'aboutit à rien.

⁷ומצרים הבל וריק יעזרו לכן קראתי לזאת רהב הם שבת׃

⁸Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever.

⁸Va maintenant, écris ces choses devant eux sur une table, Et grave-les dans un livre, Afin qu'elles subsistent dans les temps à venir, Eternellement et à perpétuité.

⁸עתה בוא כתבה על לוח אתם ועל ספר חקה ותהי ליום אחרון לעד עד עולם׃

⁹For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of Jehovah;

⁹Car c'est un peuple rebelle, Ce sont des enfants menteurs, Des enfants qui ne veulent point écouter la loi de l'Eternel,

⁹כי עם מרי הוא בנים כחשים בנים לא אבו שמוע תורת יהוה׃

¹⁰that say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits,

¹⁰Qui disent aux voyants: Ne voyez pas! Et aux prophètes: Ne nous prophétisez pas des vérités, Dites-nous des choses flatteuses, Prophétisez des chimères!

¹⁰אשר אמרו לראים לא תראו ולחזים לא תחזו לנו נכחות דברו לנו חלקות חזו מהתלות׃

¹¹get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us.

¹¹Détournez-vous du chemin, Ecartez-vous du sentier, Eloignez de notre présence le Saint d'Israël!

¹¹סורו מני דרך הטו מני ארח השביתו מפנינו את קדוש ישראל׃

¹²Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely thereon;

¹²C'est pourquoi ainsi parle le Saint d'Israël: Puisque vous rejetez cette parole, Que vous vous confiez dans la violence et dans les détours Et que vous les prenez pour appuis,

¹²לכן כה אמר קדוש ישראל יען מאסכם בדבר הזה ותבטחו בעשק ונלוז ותשענו עליו׃

¹³therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly in an instant.

¹³Ce crime sera pour vous Comme une partie crevassée qui menace ruine Et fait saillie dans un mur élevé, Dont l'écroulement arrive tout à coup, en un instant:

¹³לכן יהיה לכם העון הזה כפרץ נפל נבעה בחומה נשגבה אשר פתאם לפתע יבוא שברה׃

¹⁴And he shall break it as a potter's vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing; so that there shall not be found among the pieces thereof a sherd wherewith to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.

¹⁴Il se brise comme se brise un vase de terre, Que l'on casse sans ménagement, Et dont les débris ne laissent pas un morceau Pour prendre du feu au foyer, Ou pour puiser de l'eau à la citerne.

¹⁴ושברה כשבר נבל יוצרים כתות לא יחמל ולא ימצא במכתתו חרש לחתות אש מיקוד ולחשף מים מגבא׃

¹⁵For thus said the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. And ye would not:

¹⁵Car ainsi a parlé le Seigneur, l'Eternel, le Saint d'Israël: C'est dans la tranquillité et le repos que sera votre salut, C'est dans le calme et la confiance que sera votre force. Mais vous ne l'avez pas voulu!

¹⁵כי כה אמר אדני יהוה קדוש ישראל בשובה ונחת תושעון בהשקט ובבטחה תהיה גבורתכם ולא אביתם׃

¹⁶but ye said, No, for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift.

¹⁶Vous avez dit: Non! nous prendrons la course à cheval! -C'est pourquoi vous fuirez à la course. -Nous monterons des coursiers légers! -C'est pourquoi ceux qui vous poursuivront seront légers.

¹⁶ותאמרו לא כי על סוס ננוס על כן תנוסון ועל קל נרכב על כן יקלו רדפיכם׃

¹⁷One thousand [shall flee] at the threat of one; at the threat of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on a hill.

¹⁷Mille fuiront à la menace d'un seul, Et, à la menace de cinq, vous fuirez, Jusqu'à ce que vous restiez Comme un signal au sommet de la montagne, Comme un étendard sur la colline.

¹⁷אלף אחד מפני גערת אחד מפני גערת חמשה תנסו עד אם נותרתם כתרן על ראש ההר וכנס על הגבעה׃

¹⁸And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for Jehovah is a God of justice; blessed are all they that wait for him.

¹⁸Cependant l'Eternel désire vous faire grâce, Et il se lèvera pour vous faire miséricorde; Car l'Eternel est un Dieu juste: Heureux tous ceux qui espèrent en lui!

¹⁸ולכן יחכה יהוה לחננכם ולכן ירום לרחמכם כי אלהי משפט יהוה אשרי כל חוכי לו׃

¹⁹For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; thou shalt weep no more; he will surely be gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear, he will answer thee.

¹⁹Oui, peuple de Sion, habitant de Jérusalem, Tu ne pleureras plus! Il te fera grâce, quand tu crieras; Dès qu'il aura entendu, il t'exaucera.

¹⁹כי עם בציון ישב בירושלם בכו לא תבכה חנון יחנך לקול זעקך כשמעתו ענך׃

²⁰And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be hidden anymore, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers;

²⁰Le Seigneur vous donnera du pain dans l'angoisse, Et de l'eau dans la détresse; Ceux qui t'instruisent ne se cacheront plus, Mais tes yeux verront ceux qui t'instruisent.

²⁰ונתן לכם אדני לחם צר ומים לחץ ולא יכנף עוד מוריך והיו עיניך ראות את מוריך׃

²¹and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left.

²¹Tes oreilles entendront derrière toi la voix qui dira: Voici le chemin, marchez-y! Car vous iriez à droite, ou vous iriez à gauche.

²¹ואזניך תשמענה דבר מאחריך לאמר זה הדרך לכו בו כי תאמינו וכי תשמאילו׃

²²And ye shall defile the overlaying of thy graven images of silver, and the plating of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as an unclean thing; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.

²²Vous tiendrez pour souillés l'argent qui recouvre vos idoles, Et l'or dont elles sont revêtues; Tu en disperseras les débris comme une impureté: Hors d'ici! leur diras-tu.

²²וטמאתם את צפוי פסילי כספך ואת אפדת מסכת זהבך תזרם כמו דוה צא תאמר לו׃

²³And he will give the rain for thy seed, wherewith thou shalt sow the ground; and bread of the increase of the ground, and it shall be fat and plenteous. In that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures;

²³Alors il répandra la pluie sur la semence que tu auras mise en terre, Et le pain que produira la terre sera savoureux et nourrissant; En ce même temps, tes troupeaux paîtront dans de vastes pâturages.

²³ונתן מטר זרעך אשר תזרע את האדמה ולחם תבואת האדמה והיה דשן ושמן ירעה מקניך ביום ההוא כר נרחב׃

²⁴the oxen likewise and the young asses that till the ground shall eat savory provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork.

²⁴Les boeufs et les ânes, qui labourent la terre, Mangeront un fourrage salé, Qu'on aura vanné avec la pelle et le van.

²⁴והאלפים והעירים עבדי האדמה בליל חמיץ יאכלו אשר זרה ברחת ובמזרה׃

²⁵And there shall be upon every lofty mountain, and upon every high hill, brooks [and] streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall.

²⁵Sur toute haute montagne et sur toute colline élevée, Il y aura des ruisseaux, des courants d'eau, Au jour du grand carnage, A la chute des tours.

²⁵והיה על כל הר גבה ועל כל גבעה נשאה פלגים יבלי מים ביום הרג רב בנפל מגדלים׃

²⁶Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that Jehovah bindeth up the hurt of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

²⁶La lumière de la lune sera comme la lumière du soleil, Et la lumière du soleil sera sept fois plus grande Comme la lumière de sept jours, Lorsque l'Eternel bandera la blessure de son peuple, Et qu'il guérira la plaie de ses coups.

²⁶והיה אור הלבנה כאור החמה ואור החמה יהיה שבעתים כאור שבעת הימים ביום חבש יהוה את שבר עמו ומחץ מכתו ירפא׃

²⁷Behold, the name of Jehovah cometh from far, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire;

²⁷Voici, le nom de l'Eternel vient de loin; Sa colère est ardente, c'est un violent incendie; Ses lèvres sont pleines de fureur, Et sa langue est comme un feu dévorant;

²⁷הנה שם יהוה בא ממרחק בער אפו וכבד משאה שפתיו מלאו זעם ולשונו כאש אכלת׃

²⁸and his breath is as an overflowing stream, that reacheth even unto the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction: and a bridle that causeth to err [shall be] in the jaws of the peoples.

²⁸Son souffle est comme un torrent débordé qui atteint jusqu'au cou, Pour cribler les nations avec le crible de la destruction, Et comme un mors trompeur Entre les mâchoires des peuples.

²⁸ורוחו כנחל שוטף עד צואר יחצה להנפה גוים בנפת שוא ורסן מתעה על לחיי עמים׃

²⁹Ye shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel.

²⁹Vous chanterez comme la nuit où l'on célèbre la fête, Vous aurez le coeur joyeux comme celui qui marche au son de la flûte, Pour aller à la montagne de l'Eternel, vers le rocher d'Israël.

²⁹השיר יהיה לכם כליל התקדש חג ושמחת לבב כהולך בחליל לבוא בהר יהוה אל צור ישראל׃

³⁰And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of [his] anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones.

³⁰Et l'Eternel fera retentir sa voix majestueuse, Il montrera son bras prêt à frapper, Dans l'ardeur de sa colère, Au milieu de la flamme d'un feu dévorant, De l'inondation, de la tempête et des pierres de grêle.

³⁰והשמיע יהוה את הוד קולו ונחת זרועו יראה בזעף אף ולהב אש אוכלה נפץ וזרם ואבן ברד׃

³¹For through the voice of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be dismayed; with his rod will he smite [him].

³¹A la voix de l'Eternel, l'Assyrien tremblera; L'Eternel le frappera de sa verge.

³¹כי מקול יהוה יחת אשור בשבט יכה׃

³²And every stroke of the appointed staff, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, shall be with [the sound of] tabrets and harps; and in battles with the brandishing [of his arm] will he fight with them.

³²A chaque coup de la verge qui lui est destinée, Et que l'Eternel fera tomber sur lui, On entendra les tambourins et les harpes; L'Eternel combattra contre lui à main levée.

³²והיה כל מעבר מטה מוסדה אשר יניח יהוה עליו בתפים ובכנרות ובמלחמות תנופה נלחם בה׃

³³For a Topheth is prepared of old; yea, for the king it is made ready; he hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

³³Depuis longtemps un bûcher est préparé, Il est préparé pour le roi, Il est profond, il est vaste; Son bûcher, c'est du feu et du bois en abondance; Le souffle de l'Eternel l'enflamme, comme un torrent de soufre.

³³כי ערוך מאתמול תפתה גם הוא למלך הוכן העמיק הרחב מדרתה אש ועצים הרבה נשמת יהוה כנחל גפרית בערה בה׃
