¹Behold, a king shall reign in righteousness, and princes shall rule in justice.

¹Alors le roi régnera selon la justice, Et les princes gouverneront avec droiture.

¹הן לצדק ימלך מלך ולשרים למשפט ישרו׃

²And a man shall be as a hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest, as streams of water in a dry place, as the shade of a great rock in a weary land.

²Chacun sera comme un abri contre le vent, Et un refuge contre la tempête, Comme des courants d'eau dans un lieu desséché, Comme l'ombre d'un grand rocher dans une terre altérée.

²והיה איש כמחבא רוח וסתר זרם כפלגי מים בציון כצל סלע כבד בארץ עיפה׃

³And the eyes of them that see shall not be dim, and the ears of them that hear shall hearken.

³Les yeux de ceux qui voient ne seront plus bouchés, Et les oreilles de ceux qui entendent seront attentives.

³ולא תשעינה עיני ראים ואזני שמעים תקשבנה׃

⁴And the heart of the rash shall understand knowledge, and the tongue of the stammerers shall be ready to speak plainly.

⁴Le coeur des hommes légers sera intelligent pour comprendre, Et la langue de ceux qui balbutient parlera vite et nettement.

⁴ולבב נמהרים יבין לדעת ולשון עלגים תמהר לדבר צחות׃

⁵The fool shall be no more called noble, nor the churl said to be bountiful.

⁵On ne donnera plus à l'insensé le nom de noble, Ni au fourbe celui de magnanime.

⁵לא יקרא עוד לנבל נדיב ולכילי לא יאמר שוע׃

⁶For the fool will speak folly, and his heart will work iniquity, to practise profaneness, and to utter error against Jehovah, to make empty the soul of the hungry, and to cause the drink of the thirsty to fail.

⁶Car l'insensé profère des folies, Et son coeur s'adonne au mal, Pour commettre l'impiété, Et dire des faussetés contre l'Eternel, Pour laisser à vide l'âme de celui qui a faim, Et enlever le breuvage de celui qui a soif.

⁶כי נבל נבלה ידבר ולבו יעשה און לעשות חנף ולדבר אל יהוה תועה להריק נפש רעב ומשקה צמא יחסיר׃

⁷And the instruments of the churl are evil: he deviseth wicked devices to destroy the meek with lying words, even when the needy speaketh right.

⁷Les armes du fourbe sont pernicieuses; Il forme de coupables desseins, Pour perdre les malheureux par des paroles mensongères, Même quand la cause du pauvre est juste.

⁷וכלי כליו רעים הוא זמות יעץ לחבל ענוים באמרי שקר ובדבר אביון משפט׃

⁸But the noble deviseth noble things; and in noble things shall he continue.

⁸Mais celui qui est noble forme de nobles desseins, Et il persévère dans ses nobles desseins.

⁸ונדיב נדיבות יעץ והוא על נדיבות יקום׃

⁹Rise up, ye women that are at ease, [and] hear my voice; ye careless daughters, give ear unto my speech.

⁹Femmes insouciantes, Levez-vous, écoutez ma voix! Filles indolentes, Prêtez l'oreille à ma parole!

⁹נשים שאננות קמנה שמענה קולי בנות בטחות האזנה אמרתי׃

¹⁰For days beyond a year shall ye be troubled, ye careless women; for the vintage shall fail, the ingathering shall not come.

¹⁰Dans un an et quelques jours, Vous tremblerez, indolentes; Car c'en est fait de la vendange, La récolte n'arrivera pas.

¹⁰ימים על שנה תרגזנה בטחות כי כלה בציר אסף בלי יבוא׃

¹¹Tremble, ye women that are at ease; be troubled, ye careless ones; strip you, and make you bare, and gird [sackcloth] upon your loins.

¹¹Soyez dans l'effroi, insouciantes! Tremblez, indolentes! Déshabillez-vous, mettez-vous à nu Et ceignez vos reins!

¹¹חרדו שאננות רגזה בטחות פשטה וערה וחגורה על חלצים׃

¹²They shall smite upon the breasts for the pleasant fields, for the fruitful vine.

¹²On se frappe le sein, Au souvenir de la beauté des champs Et de la fécondité des vignes.

¹²על שדים ספדים על שדי חמד על גפן פריה׃

¹³Upon the land of my people shall come up thorns and briers; yea, upon all the houses of joy in the joyous city.

¹³Sur la terre de mon peuple Croissent les épines et les ronces, Même dans toutes les maisons de plaisance De la cité joyeuse.

¹³על אדמת עמי קוץ שמיר תעלה כי על כל בתי משוש קריה עליזה׃

¹⁴For the palace shall be forsaken; the populous city shall be deserted; the hill and the watch-tower shall be for dens for ever, a joy of wild asses, a pasture of flocks;

¹⁴Le palais est abandonné, La ville bruyante est délaissée; La colline et la tour serviront à jamais de cavernes; Les ânes sauvages y joueront, les troupeaux y paîtront,

¹⁴כי ארמון נטש המון עיר עזב עפל ובחן היה בעד מערות עד עולם משוש פראים מרעה עדרים׃

¹⁵until the Spirit be poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness become a fruitful field, and the fruitful field be esteemed as a forest.

¹⁵Jusqu'à ce que l'esprit soit répandu d'en haut sur nous, Et que le désert se change en verger, Et que le verger soit considéré comme une forêt.

¹⁵עד יערה עלינו רוח ממרום והיה מדבר לכרמל וכרמל ליער יחשב׃

¹⁶Then justice shall dwell in the wilderness; and righteousness shall abide in the fruitful field.

¹⁶Alors la droiture habitera dans le désert, Et la justice aura sa demeure dans le verger.

¹⁶ושכן במדבר משפט וצדקה בכרמל תשב׃

¹⁷And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness, quietness and confidence for ever.

¹⁷L'oeuvre de la justice sera la paix, Et le fruit de la justice le repos et la sécurité pour toujours.

¹⁷והיה מעשה הצדקה שלום ועבדת הצדקה השקט ובטח עד עולם׃

¹⁸And my people shall abide in a peaceable habitation, and in safe dwellings, and in quiet resting-places.

¹⁸Mon peuple demeurera dans le séjour de la paix, Dans des habitations sûres, Dans des asiles tranquilles.

¹⁸וישב עמי בנוה שלום ובמשכנות מבטחים ובמנוחת שאננות׃

¹⁹But it shall hail in the downfall of the forest; and the city shall be utterly laid low.

¹⁹Mais la forêt sera précipitée sous la grêle, Et la ville profondément abaissée.

¹⁹וברד ברדת היער ובשפלה תשפל העיר׃

²⁰Blessed are yet that sow beside all waters, that send forth the feet of the ox and the ass.

²⁰Heureux vous qui partout semez le long des eaux, Et qui laissez sans entraves le pied du boeuf et de l'âne!

²⁰אשריכם זרעי על כל מים משלחי רגל השור והחמור׃
