¹Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God.

¹Consolez, consolez mon peuple, Dit votre Dieu.

¹נחמו נחמו עמי יאמר אלהיכם׃

²Speak ye comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry unto her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she hath received of Jehovah's hand double for all her sins.

²Parlez au coeur de Jérusalem, et criez lui Que sa servitude est finie, Que son iniquité est expiée, Qu'elle a reçu de la main de l'Eternel Au double de tous ses péchés.

²דברו על לב ירושלם וקראו אליה כי מלאה צבאה כי נרצה עונה כי לקחה מיד יהוה כפלים בכל חטאתיה׃

³The voice of one that crieth, Prepare ye in the wilderness the way of Jehovah; make level in the desert a highway for our God.

³Une voix crie: Préparez au désert le chemin de l'Eternel, Aplanissez dans les lieux arides Une route pour notre Dieu.

³קול קורא במדבר פנו דרך יהוה ישרו בערבה מסלה לאלהינו׃

⁴Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the uneven shall be made level, and the rough places a plain:

⁴Que toute vallée soit exhaussée, Que toute montagne et toute colline soient abaissées! Que les coteaux se changent en plaines, Et les défilés étroits en vallons!

⁴כל גיא ינשא וכל הר וגבעה ישפלו והיה העקב למישור והרכסים לבקעה׃

⁵and the glory of Jehovah shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken it.

⁵Alors la gloire de l'Eternel sera révélée, Et au même instant toute chair la verra; Car la bouche de l'Eternel a parlé.

⁵ונגלה כבוד יהוה וראו כל בשר יחדו כי פי יהוה דבר׃

⁶The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field.

⁶Une voix dit: Crie! -Et il répond: Que crierai-je? Toute chair est comme l'herbe, Et tout son éclat comme la fleur des champs.

⁶קול אמר קרא ואמר מה אקרא כל הבשר חציר וכל חסדו כציץ השדה׃

⁷The grass withereth, the flower fadeth, because the breath of Jehovah bloweth upon it; surely the people is grass.

⁷L'herbe sèche, la fleur tombe, Quand le vent de l'Eternel souffle dessus. -Certainement le peuple est comme l'herbe:

⁷יבש חציר נבל ציץ כי רוח יהוה נשבה בו אכן חציר העם׃

⁸The grass withereth, the flower fadeth; but the word of our God shall stand forever.

⁸L'herbe sèche, la fleur tombe; Mais la parole de notre Dieu subsiste éternellement.

⁸יבש חציר נבל ציץ ודבר אלהינו יקום לעולם׃

⁹O thou that tellest good tidings to Zion, get thee up on a high mountain; O thou that tellest good tidings to Jerusalem, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold, your God!

⁹Monte sur une haute montagne, Sion, pour publier la bonne nouvelle; Elève avec force ta voix, Jérusalem, pour publier la bonne nouvelle; Elève ta voix, ne crains point, Dis aux villes de Juda: Voici votre Dieu!

⁹על הר גבה עלי לך מבשרת ציון הרימי בכח קולך מבשרת ירושלם הרימי אל תיראי אמרי לערי יהודה הנה אלהיכם׃

¹⁰Behold, the Lord Jehovah will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.

¹⁰Voici, le Seigneur, l'Eternel vient avec puissance, Et de son bras il commande; Voici, le salaire est avec lui, Et les rétributions le précèdent.

¹⁰הנה אדני יהוה בחזק יבוא וזרעו משלה לו הנה שכרו אתו ופעלתו לפניו׃

¹¹He will feed his flock like a shepherd, he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom, [and] will gently lead those that have their young.

¹¹Comme un berger, il paîtra son troupeau, Il prendra les agneaux dans ses bras, Et les portera dans son sein; Il conduira les brebis qui allaitent.

¹¹כרעה עדרו ירעה בזרעו יקבץ טלאים ובחיקו ישא עלות ינהל׃

¹²Who hath measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?

¹²Qui a mesuré les eaux dans le creux de sa main, Pris les dimensions des cieux avec la paume, Et ramassé la poussière de la terre dans un tiers de mesure? Qui a pesé les montagnes au crochet, Et les collines à la balance?

¹²מי מדד בשעלו מים ושמים בזרת תכן וכל בשלש עפר הארץ ושקל בפלס הרים וגבעות במאזנים׃

¹³Who hath directed the Spirit of Jehovah, or being his counsellor hath taught him?

¹³Qui a sondé l'esprit de l'Eternel, Et qui l'a éclairé de ses conseils?

¹³מי תכן את רוח יהוה ואיש עצתו יודיענו׃

¹⁴With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?

¹⁴Avec qui a-t-il délibéré pour en recevoir de l'instruction? Qui lui a appris le sentier de la justice? Qui lui a enseigné la sagesse, Et fait connaître le chemin de l'intelligence?

¹⁴את מי נועץ ויבינהו וילמדהו בארח משפט וילמדהו דעת ודרך תבונות יודיענו׃

¹⁵Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: Behold, he taketh up the isles as a very little thing.

¹⁵Voici, les nations sont comme une goutte d'un seau, Elles sont comme de la poussière sur une balance; Voici, les îles sont comme une fine poussière qui s'envole.

¹⁵הן גוים כמר מדלי וכשחק מאזנים נחשבו הן איים כדק יטול׃

¹⁶And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor the beasts thereof sufficient for a burnt-offering.

¹⁶Le Liban ne suffit pas pour le feu, Et ses animaux ne suffisent pas pour l'holocauste.

¹⁶ולבנון אין די בער וחיתו אין די עולה׃

¹⁷All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.

¹⁷Toutes les nations sont devant lui comme un rien, Elles ne sont pour lui que néant et vanité.

¹⁷כל הגוים כאין נגדו מאפס ותהו נחשבו לו׃

¹⁸To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him?

¹⁸A qui voulez-vous comparer Dieu? Et quelle image ferez-vous son égale?

¹⁸ואל מי תדמיון אל ומה דמות תערכו לו׃

¹⁹The image, a workman hath cast [it], and the goldsmith overlayeth it with gold, and casteth [for it] silver chains.

¹⁹C'est un ouvrier qui fond l'idole, Et c'est un orfèvre qui la couvre d'or, Et y soude des chaînettes d'argent.

¹⁹הפסל נסך חרש וצרף בזהב ירקענו ורתקות כסף צורף׃

²⁰He that is too impoverished for [such] an oblation chooseth a tree that will not rot; he seeketh unto him a skilful workman to set up a graven image, that shall not be moved.

²⁰Celui que la pauvreté oblige à donner peu Choisit un bois qui résiste à la vermoulure; Il se procure un ouvrier capable, Pour faire une idole qui ne branle pas.

²⁰המסכן תרומה עץ לא ירקב יבחר חרש חכם יבקש לו להכין פסל לא ימוט׃

²¹Have ye not known? have yet not heard? hath it not been told you from the beginning? have ye not understood from the foundations of the earth?

²¹Ne le savez-vous pas? ne l'avez-vous pas appris? Ne vous l'a-t-on pas fait connaître dès le commencement? N'avez-vous jamais réfléchi à la fondation de la terre?

²¹הלוא תדעו הלוא תשמעו הלוא הגד מראש לכם הלוא הבינתם מוסדות הארץ׃

²²[It is] he that sitteth above the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in;

²²C'est lui qui est assis au-dessus du cercle de la terre, Et ceux qui l'habitent sont comme des sauterelles; Il étend les cieux comme une étoffe légère, Il les déploie comme une tente, pour en faire sa demeure.

²²הישב על חוג הארץ וישביה כחגבים הנוטה כדק שמים וימתחם כאהל לשבת׃

²³that bringeth princes to nothing; that maketh the judges of the earth as vanity.

²³C'est lui qui réduit les princes au néant, Et qui fait des juges de la terre une vanité;

²³הנותן רוזנים לאין שפטי ארץ כתהו עשה׃

²⁴Yea, they have not been planted; yea, they have not been sown; yea, their stock hath not taken root in the earth: moreover he bloweth upon them, and they wither, and the whirlwind taketh them away as stubble.

²⁴Ils ne sont pas même plantés, pas même semés, Leur tronc n'a pas même de racine en terre: Il souffle sur eux, et ils se dessèchent, Et un tourbillon les emporte comme le chaume.

²⁴אף בל נטעו אף בל זרעו אף בל שרש בארץ גזעם וגם נשף בהם ויבשו וסערה כקש תשאם׃

²⁵To whom then will ye liken me, that I should be equal [to him]? saith the Holy One.

²⁵A qui me comparerez-vous, pour que je lui ressemble? Dit le Saint.

²⁵ואל מי תדמיוני ואשוה יאמר קדוש׃

²⁶Lift up your eyes on high, and see who hath created these, that bringeth out their host by number; he calleth them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.

²⁶Levez vos yeux en haut, et regardez! Qui a créé ces choses? Qui fait marcher en ordre leur armée? Il les appelle toutes par leur nom; Par son grand pouvoir et par sa force puissante, Il n'en est pas une qui fasse défaut.

²⁶שאו מרום עיניכם וראו מי ברא אלה המוציא במספר צבאם לכלם בשם יקרא מרב אונים ואמיץ כח איש לא נעדר׃

²⁷Why sayest thou, O Jacob, and speakest, O Israel, My way is hid from Jehovah, and the justice [due] to me is passed away from my God?

²⁷Pourquoi dis-tu, Jacob, Pourquoi dis-tu, Israël: Ma destinée est cachée devant l'Eternel, Mon droit passe inaperçu devant mon Dieu?

²⁷למה תאמר יעקב ותדבר ישראל נסתרה דרכי מיהוה ומאלהי משפטי יעבור׃

²⁸Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard? The everlasting God, Jehovah, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding.

²⁸Ne le sais-tu pas? ne l'as-tu pas appris? C'est le Dieu d'éternité, l'Eternel, Qui a créé les extrémités de la terre; Il ne se fatigue point, il ne se lasse point; On ne peut sonder son intelligence.

²⁸הלוא ידעת אם לא שמעת אלהי עולם יהוה בורא קצות הארץ לא ייעף ולא ייגע אין חקר לתבונתו׃

²⁹He giveth power to the faint; and to him that hath no might he increaseth strength.

²⁹Il donne de la force à celui qui est fatigué, Et il augmente la vigueur de celui qui tombe en défaillance.

²⁹נתן ליעף כח ולאין אונים עצמה ירבה׃

³⁰Even the youths shall faint and be weary, and the young men shall utterly fall:

³⁰Les adolescents se fatiguent et se lassent, Et les jeunes hommes chancellent;

³⁰ויעפו נערים ויגעו ובחורים כשול יכשלו׃

³¹but they that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint.

³¹Mais ceux qui se confient en l'Eternel renouvellent leur force. Ils prennent le vol comme les aigles; Ils courent, et ne se lassent point, Ils marchent, et ne se fatiguent point.

³¹וקוי יהוה יחליפו כח יעלו אבר כנשרים ירוצו ולא ייגעו ילכו ולא ייעפו׃
