¹The word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah, saying,

¹La parole qui fut adressée à Jérémie de la part de l'Eternel, en ces mots:

¹הדבר אשר היה אל ירמיהו מאת יהוה לאמר׃

²Hear ye the words of this covenant, and speak unto the men of Judah, and to the inhabitants of Jerusalem;

²Ecoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et parlez aux hommes de Juda et aux habitants de Jérusalem!

²שמעו את דברי הברית הזאת ודברתם אל איש יהודה ועל ישבי ירושלם׃

³and say thou unto them, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel: Cursed be the man that heareth not the words of this covenant,

³Dis-leur: Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Maudit soit l'homme qui n'écoute point les paroles de cette alliance,

³ואמרת אליהם כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל ארור האיש אשר לא ישמע את דברי הברית הזאת׃

⁴which I commanded your fathers in the day that I brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the iron furnace, saying, Obey my voice, and do them, according to all which I command you: so shall ye be my people, and I will be your God;

⁴Que j'ai prescrite à vos pères, Le jour où je les ai fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, De la fournaise de fer, en disant: Ecoutez ma voix, et faites tout ce que je vous ordonnerai; Alors vous serez mon peuple, Je serai votre Dieu,

⁴אשר צויתי את אבותיכם ביום הוציאי אותם מארץ מצרים מכור הברזל לאמר שמעו בקולי ועשיתם אותם ככל אשר אצוה אתכם והייתם לי לעם ואנכי אהיה לכם לאלהים׃

⁵that I may establish the oath which I sware unto your fathers, to give them a land flowing with milk and honey, as at this day. Then answered I, and said, Amen, O Jehovah.

⁵Et j'accomplirai le serment que j'ai fait à vos pères, De leur donner un pays où coulent le lait et le miel, Comme vous le voyez aujourd'hui. -Et je répondis: Amen, Eternel!

⁵למען הקים את השבועה אשר נשבעתי לאבותיכם לתת להם ארץ זבת חלב ודבש כיום הזה ואען ואמר אמן יהוה׃

⁶And Jehovah said unto me, Proclaim all these words in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, saying, Hear ye the words of this covenant, and do them.

⁶L'Eternel me dit: Publie toutes ces paroles dans les villes de Juda Et dans les rues de Jérusalem, en disant: Ecoutez les paroles de cette alliance, Et mettez-les en pratique!

⁶ויאמר יהוה אלי קרא את כל הדברים האלה בערי יהודה ובחצות ירושלם לאמר שמעו את דברי הברית הזאת ועשיתם אותם׃

⁷For I earnestly protested unto your fathers in the day that I brought them up out of the land of Egypt, even unto this day, rising early and protesting, saying, Obey my voice.

⁷Car j'ai averti vos pères, Depuis le jour où je les ai fait monter du pays d'Egypte Jusqu'à ce jour, Je les ai avertis tous les matins, en disant: Ecoutez ma voix!

⁷כי העד העדתי באבותיכם ביום העלותי אותם מארץ מצרים ועד היום הזה השכם והעד לאמר שמעו בקולי׃

⁸Yet they obeyed not, nor inclined their ear, but walked every one in the stubbornness of their evil heart: therefore I brought upon them all the words of this covenant, which I commanded them to do, but they did them not.

⁸Mais ils n'ont pas écouté, ils n'ont pas prêté l'oreille, Ils ont suivi chacun les penchants de leur mauvais coeur; Alors j'ai accompli sur eux toutes les paroles de cette alliance, Que je leur avais ordonné d'observer et qu'ils n'ont point observée.

⁸ולא שמעו ולא הטו את אזנם וילכו איש בשרירות לבם הרע ואביא עליהם את כל דברי הברית הזאת אשר צויתי לעשות ולא עשו׃

⁹And Jehovah said unto me, A conspiracy is found among the men of Judah, and among the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

⁹L'Eternel me dit: Il y a une conjuration entre les hommes de Juda Et les habitants de Jérusalem.

⁹ויאמר יהוה אלי נמצא קשר באיש יהודה ובישבי ירושלם׃

¹⁰They are turned back to the iniquities of their forefathers, who refused to hear my words; and they are gone after other gods to serve them: the house of Israel and the house of Judah have broken my covenant which I made with their fathers.

¹⁰Ils sont retournés aux iniquités de leurs premiers pères, Qui ont refusé d'écouter mes paroles, Et ils sont allés après d'autres dieux, pour les servir. La maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont violé mon alliance, Que j'avais faite avec leurs pères.

¹⁰שבו על עונת אבותם הראשנים אשר מאנו לשמוע את דברי והמה הלכו אחרי אלהים אחרים לעבדם הפרו בית ישראל ובית יהודה את בריתי אשר כרתי את אבותם׃

¹¹Therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will bring evil upon them, which they shall not be able to escape; and they shall cry unto me, but I will not hearken unto them.

¹¹C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je vais faire venir sur eux des malheurs Dont ils ne pourront se délivrer. Ils crieront vers moi, Et je ne les écouterai pas.

¹¹לכן כה אמר יהוה הנני מביא אליהם רעה אשר לא יוכלו לצאת ממנה וזעקו אלי ולא אשמע אליהם׃

¹²Then shall the cities of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem go and cry unto the gods unto which they offer incense: but they will not save them at all in the time of their trouble.

¹²Les villes de Juda et les habitants de Jérusalem Iront invoquer les dieux auxquels ils offrent de l'encens, Mais ils ne les sauveront pas au temps de leur malheur.

¹²והלכו ערי יהודה וישבי ירושלם וזעקו אל האלהים אשר הם מקטרים להם והושע לא יושיעו להם בעת רעתם׃

¹³For according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah; and according to the number of the streets of Jerusalem have ye set up altars to the shameful thing, even altars to burn incense unto Baal.

¹³Car tu as autant de dieux que de villes, ô Juda! Et autant Jérusalem a de rues, Autant vous avez dressé d'autels aux idoles, D'autels pour offrir de l'encens à Baal...

¹³כי מספר עריך היו אלהיך יהודה ומספר חצות ירושלם שמתם מזבחות לבשת מזבחות לקטר לבעל׃

¹⁴Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them; for I will not hear them in the time that they cry unto me because of their trouble.

¹⁴Et toi, n'intercède pas en faveur de ce peuple, N'élève pour eux ni supplications ni prières; Car je ne les écouterai pas, Quand ils m'invoqueront à cause de leur malheur.

¹⁴ואתה אל תתפלל בעד העם הזה ואל תשא בעדם רנה ותפלה כי אינני שמע בעת קראם אלי בעד רעתם׃

¹⁵What hath my beloved to do in my house, seeing she hath wrought lewdness [with] many, and the holy flesh is passed from thee? when thou doest evil, then thou rejoicest.

¹⁵Que ferait mon bien-aimé dans ma maison? Il s'y commet une foule de crimes. La chair sacrée disparaîtra devant toi. Quand tu fais le mal, c'est alors que tu triomphes!

¹⁵מה לידידי בביתי עשותה המזמתה הרבים ובשר קדש יעברו מעליך כי רעתכי אז תעלזי׃

¹⁶Jehovah called thy name, A green olive-tree, fair with goodly fruit: with the noise of a great tumult he hath kindled fire upon it, and the branches of it are broken.

¹⁶Olivier verdoyant, remarquable par la beauté de son fruit, Tel est le nom que t'avait donné l'Eternel; Au bruit d'un grand fracas, il l'embrase par le feu, Et ses rameaux sont brisés.

¹⁶זית רענן יפה פרי תאר קרא יהוה שמך לקול המולה גדלה הצית אש עליה ורעו דליותיו׃

¹⁷For Jehovah of hosts, who planted thee, hath pronounced evil against thee, because of the evil of the house of Israel and of the house of Judah, which they have wrought for themselves in provoking me to anger by offering incense unto Baal.

¹⁷L'Eternel des armées, qui t'a planté, Appelle sur toi le malheur, A cause de la méchanceté de la maison d'Israël et de la maison de Juda, Qui ont agi pour m'irriter, en offrant de l'encens à Baal.

¹⁷ויהוה צבאות הנוטע אותך דבר עליך רעה בגלל רעת בית ישראל ובית יהודה אשר עשו להם להכעסני לקטר לבעל׃

¹⁸And Jehovah gave me knowledge of it, and I knew it: then thou showedst me their doings.

¹⁸L'Eternel m'en a informé, et je l'ai su; Alors tu m'as fait voir leurs oeuvres.

¹⁸ויהוה הודיעני ואדעה אז הראיתני מעלליהם׃

¹⁹But I was like a gentle lamb that is led to the slaughter; and I knew not that they had devised devices against me, [saying], Let us destroy the tree with the fruit thereof, and let us cut him off from the land of the living, that his name may be no more remembered.

¹⁹J'étais comme un agneau familier qu'on mène à la boucherie, Et j'ignorais les mauvais desseins qu'ils méditaient contre moi: Détruisons l'arbre avec son fruit! Retranchons-le de la terre des vivants, Et qu'on ne se souvienne plus de son nom! -

¹⁹ואני ככבש אלוף יובל לטבוח ולא ידעתי כי עלי חשבו מחשבות נשחיתה עץ בלחמו ונכרתנו מארץ חיים ושמו לא יזכר עוד׃

²⁰But, O Jehovah of hosts, who judgest righteously, who triest the heart and the mind, I shall see thy vengeance on them; for unto thee have I revealed my cause.

²⁰Mais l'Eternel des armées est un juste juge, Qui sonde les reins et les coeurs. Je verrai ta vengeance s'exercer contre eux, Car c'est à toi que je confie ma cause.

²⁰ויהוה צבאות שפט צדק בחן כליות ולב אראה נקמתך מהם כי אליך גליתי את ריבי׃

²¹Therefore thus saith Jehovah concerning the men of Anathoth, that seek thy life, saying, Thou shalt not prophesy in the name of Jehovah, that thou die not by our hand;

²¹C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel contre les gens d'Anathoth, Qui en veulent à ta vie, et qui disent: Ne prophétise pas au nom de l'Eternel, Ou tu mourras de notre main!

²¹לכן כה אמר יהוה על אנשי ענתות המבקשים את נפשך לאמר לא תנבא בשם יהוה ולא תמות בידנו׃

²²therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, I will punish them: the young men shall die by the sword; their sons and their daughters shall die by famine;

²²C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Voici, je vais les châtier; Les jeunes hommes mourront par l'épée, Leurs fils et leurs filles mourront par la famine.

²²לכן כה אמר יהוה צבאות הנני פקד עליהם הבחורים ימתו בחרב בניהם ובנותיהם ימתו ברעב׃

²³and there shall be no remnant unto them: for I will bring evil upon the men of Anathoth, even the year of their visitation.

²³Aucun d'eux n'échappera; Car je ferai venir le malheur sur les gens d'Anathoth, L'année où je les châtierai.

²³ושארית לא תהיה להם כי אביא רעה אל אנשי ענתות שנת פקדתם׃
