¹And Zedekiah the son of Josiah reigned as king, instead of Coniah the son of Jehoiakim, whom Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon made king in the land of Judah.

¹Sédécias, fils de Josias, régna à la place de Jeconia, fils de Jojakim, et fut établi roi dans le pays de Juda par Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone.

¹וימלך מלך צדקיהו בן יאשיהו תחת כניהו בן יהויקים אשר המליך נבוכדראצר מלך בבל בארץ יהודה׃

²But neither he, nor his servants, nor the people of the land, did hearken unto the words of Jehovah, which he spake by the prophet Jeremiah.

²Ni lui, ni ses serviteurs, ni le peuple du pays, n'écoutèrent les paroles que l'Eternel prononça par Jérémie, le prophète.

²ולא שמע הוא ועבדיו ועם הארץ אל דברי יהוה אשר דבר ביד ירמיהו הנביא׃

³And Zedekiah the king sent Jehucal the son of Shelemiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah, the priest, to the prophet Jeremiah, saying, Pray now unto Jehovah our God for us.

³Le roi Sédécias envoya Jucal, fils de Schélémia, et Sophonie, fils de Maaséja, le sacrificateur, vers Jérémie, le prophète, pour lui dire: Intercède en notre faveur auprès de l'Eternel, notre Dieu.

³וישלח המלך צדקיהו את יהוכל בן שלמיה ואת צפניהו בן מעשיה הכהן אל ירמיהו הנביא לאמר התפלל נא בעדנו אל יהוה אלהינו׃

⁴Now Jeremiah came in and went out among the people; for they had not put him into prison.

⁴Or Jérémie allait et venait parmi le peuple; on ne l'avait pas encore mis en prison.

⁴וירמיהו בא ויצא בתוך העם ולא נתנו אתו בית הכליא׃

⁵And Pharaoh's army was come forth out of Egypt; and when the Chaldeans that were besieging Jerusalem heard tidings of them, they brake up from Jerusalem.

⁵L'armée de Pharaon était sortie d'Egypte; et les Chaldéens, qui assiégeaient Jérusalem, ayant appris cette nouvelle, s'étaient retirés de Jérusalem.

⁵וחיל פרעה יצא ממצרים וישמעו הכשדים הצרים על ירושלם את שמעם ויעלו מעל ירושלם׃

⁶Then came the word of Jehovah unto the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

⁶Alors la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, en ces mots:

⁶ויהי דבר יהוה אל ירמיהו הנביא לאמר׃

⁷Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Thus shall ye say to the king of Judah, that sent you unto me to inquire of me: Behold, Pharaoh's army, which is come forth to help you, shall return to Egypt into their own land.

⁷Ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu d'Israël: Vous direz au roi de Juda, qui vous a envoyés vers moi pour me consulter: Voici, l'armée de Pharaon, qui était en marche pour vous secourir, retourne dans son pays, en Egypte;

⁷כה אמר יהוה אלהי ישראל כה תאמרו אל מלך יהודה השלח אתכם אלי לדרשני הנה חיל פרעה היצא לכם לעזרה שב לארצו מצרים׃

⁸And the Chaldeans shall come again, and fight against this city; and they shall take it, and burn it with fire.

⁸et les Chaldéens reviendront, ils attaqueront cette ville, ils la prendront, et la brûleront par le feu.

⁸ושבו הכשדים ונלחמו על העיר הזאת ולכדה ושרפה באש׃

⁹Thus saith Jehovah, Deceive not yourselves, saying, The Chaldeans shall surely depart from us; for they shall not depart.

⁹Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Ne vous faites pas d'illusion, en disant: Les Chaldéens s'en iront loin de nous! Car ils ne s'en iront pas.

⁹כה אמר יהוה אל תשאו נפשתיכם לאמר הלך ילכו מעלינו הכשדים כי לא ילכו׃

¹⁰For though ye had smitten the whole army of the Chaldeans that fight against you, and there remained but wounded men among them, yea would they rise up every man in his tent, and burn this city with fire.

¹⁰Et même quand vous battriez toute l'armée des Chaldéens qui vous font la guerre, quand il ne resterait d'eux que des hommes blessés, ils se relèveraient chacun dans sa tente, et brûleraient cette ville par le feu.

¹⁰כי אם הכיתם כל חיל כשדים הנלחמים אתכם ונשארו בם אנשים מדקרים איש באהלו יקומו ושרפו את העיר הזאת באש׃

¹¹And it came to pass that, when the army of the Chaldeans was broken up from Jerusalem for fear of Pharaoh's army,

¹¹Pendant que l'armée des Chaldéens s'était éloignée de Jérusalem, à cause de l'armée de Pharaon,

¹¹והיה בהעלות חיל הכשדים מעל ירושלם מפני חיל פרעה׃

¹²then Jeremiah went forth out of Jerusalem to go into the land of Benjamin, to receive his portion there, in the midst of the people.

¹²Jérémie voulut sortir de Jérusalem, pour aller dans le pays de Benjamin et s'échapper du milieu du peuple.

¹²ויצא ירמיהו מירושלם ללכת ארץ בנימן לחלק משם בתוך העם׃

¹³And when he was in the gate of Benjamin, a captain of the ward was there, whose name was Irijah, the son of Shelemiah, the son of Hananiah; and he laid hold on Jeremiah the prophet, saying, Thou art falling away to the Chaldeans.

¹³Lorsqu'il fut à la porte de Benjamin, le commandant de la garde, nommé Jireija, fils de Schélémia, fils de Hanania, se trouvait là, et il saisit Jérémie, le prophète, en disant: Tu passes aux Chaldéens!

¹³ויהי הוא בשער בנימן ושם בעל פקדת ושמו יראייה בן שלמיה בן חנניה ויתפש את ירמיהו הנביא לאמר אל הכשדים אתה נפל׃

¹⁴Then said Jeremiah, It is false; I am not falling away to the Chaldeans. But he hearkened not to him; so Irijah laid hold on Jeremiah, and brought him to the princes.

¹⁴Jérémie répondit: C'est faux! je ne passe pas aux Chaldéens. Mais Jireija ne l'écouta point; il arrêta Jérémie, et le conduisit devant les chefs.

¹⁴ויאמר ירמיהו שקר אינני נפל על הכשדים ולא שמע אליו ויתפש יראייה בירמיהו ויבאהו אל השרים׃

¹⁵And the princes were wroth with Jeremiah, and smote him, and put him in prison in the house of Jonathan the scribe; for they had made that the prison.

¹⁵Les chefs, irrités contre Jérémie, le frappèrent, et le mirent en prison dans la maison de Jonathan, le secrétaire; car ils en avaient fait une prison.

¹⁵ויקצפו השרים על ירמיהו והכו אתו ונתנו אותו בית האסור בית יהונתן הספר כי אתו עשו לבית הכלא׃

¹⁶When Jeremiah was come into the dungeon-house, and into the cells, and Jeremiah had remained there many days;

¹⁶Ce fut ainsi que Jérémie entra dans la prison et dans les cachots, où il resta longtemps.

¹⁶כי בא ירמיהו אל בית הבור ואל החניות וישב שם ירמיהו ימים רבים׃

¹⁷Then Zedekiah the king sent, and fetched him: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from Jehovah? And Jeremiah said, There is. He said also, Thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.

¹⁷Le roi Sédécias l'envoya chercher, et l'interrogea secrètement dans sa maison. Il dit: Y a-t-il une parole de la part de l'Eternel? Jérémie répondit: Oui. Et il ajouta: Tu seras livré entre les mains du roi de Babylone.

¹⁷וישלח המלך צדקיהו ויקחהו וישאלהו המלך בביתו בסתר ויאמר היש דבר מאת יהוה ויאמר ירמיהו יש ויאמר ביד מלך בבל תנתן׃

¹⁸Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, Wherein have I sinned against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison?

¹⁸Jérémie dit encore au roi Sédécias: En quoi ai-je péché contre toi, contre tes serviteurs, et contre ce peuple, pour que vous m'ayez mis en prison?

¹⁸ויאמר ירמיהו אל המלך צדקיהו מה חטאתי לך ולעבדיך ולעם הזה כי נתתם אותי אל בית הכלא׃

¹⁹Where now are your prophets that prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land?

¹⁹Et où sont vos prophètes qui vous prophétisaient, en disant: Le roi de Babylone ne viendra pas contre vous, ni contre ce pays?

¹⁹ואיו נביאיכם אשר נבאו לכם לאמר לא יבא מלך בבל עליכם ועל הארץ הזאת׃

²⁰And now hear, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be presented before thee, that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there.

²⁰Maintenant, écoute, je te prie, ô roi, mon seigneur, et que mes supplications soient favorablement reçues devant toi! Ne me renvoie pas dans la maison de Jonathan, le secrétaire, de peur que je n'y meure!

²⁰ועתה שמע נא אדני המלך תפל נא תחנתי לפניך ואל תשבני בית יהונתן הספר ולא אמות שם׃

²¹Then Zedekiah the king commanded, and they committed Jeremiah into the court of the guard; and they gave him daily a loaf of bread out of the bakers' street, until all the bread in the city was spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the guard.

²¹Le roi Sédécias ordonna qu'on gardât Jérémie dans la cour de la prison, et qu'on lui donnât chaque jour un pain de la rue des boulangers, jusqu'à ce que tout le pain de la ville fût consommé. Ainsi Jérémie demeura dans la cour de la prison.

²¹ויצוה המלך צדקיהו ויפקדו את ירמיהו בחצר המטרה ונתן לו ככר לחם ליום מחוץ האפים עד תם כל הלחם מן העיר וישב ירמיהו בחצר המטרה׃
