¹The word of Jehovah which came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.

¹La parole de l'Eternel qui fut adressée à Jérémie, le prophète, sur les nations.

¹אשר היה דבר יהוה אל ירמיהו הנביא על הגוים׃

²Of Egypt: concerning the army of Pharaoh-neco king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates in Carchemish, which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon smote in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah.

²Sur l'Egypte. Sur l'armée de Pharaon Neco, roi d'Egypte, qui était près du fleuve de l'Euphrate, à Carkemisch, et qui fut battue par Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, la quatrième année de Jojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda.

²למצרים על חיל פרעה נכו מלך מצרים אשר היה על נהר פרת בכרכמש אשר הכה נבוכדראצר מלך בבל בשנת הרביעית ליהויקים בן יאשיהו מלך יהודה׃

³Prepare ye the buckler and shield, and draw near to battle.

³Préparez le petit et le grand bouclier, Et marchez au combat!

³ערכו מגן וצנה וגשו למלחמה׃

⁴Harness the horses, and get up, ye horsemen, and stand forth with your helmets; furbish the spears, put on the coats of mail.

⁴Attelez les chevaux, Montez, cavaliers! Paraissez avec vos casques, Polissez vos lances, Revêtez la cuirasse!...

⁴אסרו הסוסים ועלו הפרשים והתיצבו בכובעים מרקו הרמחים לבשו הסרינת׃

⁵Wherefore have I seen it? they are dismayed and are turned backward; and their mighty ones are beaten down, and are fled apace, and look not back: terror is on every side, saith Jehovah.

⁵Que vois-je? Ils ont peur, ils reculent; Leurs vaillants hommes sont battus; Ils fuient sans se retourner... L'épouvante est de toutes parts, dit l'Eternel.

⁵מדוע ראיתי המה חתים נסגים אחור וגבוריהם יכתו ומנוס נסו ולא הפנו מגור מסביב נאם יהוה׃

⁶Let not the swift flee away, nor the mighty man escape; in the north by the river Euphrates have they stumbled and fallen.

⁶Que le plus léger ne trouve aucun salut dans la fuite, Que le plus vaillant n'échappe pas! Au septentrion, sur les rives de l'Euphrate, Ils chancellent, ils tombent.

⁶אל ינוס הקל ואל ימלט הגבור צפונה על יד נהר פרת כשלו ונפלו׃

⁷Who is this that riseth up like the Nile, whose waters toss themselves like the rivers?

⁷Qui est celui qui s'avance comme le Nil, Et dont les eaux sont agitées comme les torrents?

⁷מי זה כיאר יעלה כנהרות יתגעשו מימיו׃

⁸Egypt riseth up like the Nile, and his waters toss themselves like the rivers: and he saith, I will rise up, I will cover the earth; I will destroy cities and the inhabitants thereof.

⁸C'est l'Egypte. Elle s'avance comme le Nil, Et ses eaux sont agitées comme les torrents. Elle dit: Je monterai, je couvrirai la terre, Je détruirai les villes et leurs habitants.

⁸מצרים כיאר יעלה וכנהרות יתגעשו מים ויאמר אעלה אכסה ארץ אבידה עיר וישבי בה׃

⁹Go up, ye horses; and rage, ye chariots; and let the mighty men go forth: Cush and Put, that handle the shield; and the Ludim, that handle and bend the bow.

⁹Montez, chevaux! précipitez-vous, chars! Qu'ils se montrent, les vaillants hommes, Ceux d'Ethiopie et de Puth qui portent le bouclier, Et ceux de Lud qui manient et tendent l'arc!

⁹עלו הסוסים והתהללו הרכב ויצאו הגבורים כוש ופוט תפשי מגן ולודים תפשי דרכי קשת׃

¹⁰For that day is [a day] of the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, a day of vengeance, that he may avenge him of his adversaries: and the sword shall devour and be satiate, and shall drink its fill of their blood; for the Lord, Jehovah of hosts, hath a sacrifice in the north country by the river Euphrates.

¹⁰Ce jour est au Seigneur, à l'Eternel des armées; C'est un jour de vengeance, où il se venge de ses ennemis. L'épée dévore, elle se rassasie, Elle s'enivre de leur sang. Car il y a des victimes du Seigneur, de l'Eternel des armées, Au pays du septentrion, sur les rives de l'Euphrate.

¹⁰והיום ההוא לאדני יהוה צבאות יום נקמה להנקם מצריו ואכלה חרב ושבעה ורותה מדמם כי זבח לאדני יהוה צבאות בארץ צפון אל נהר פרת׃

¹¹Go up into Gilead, and take balm, O virgin daughter of Egypt: in vain dost thou use many medicines; there is no healing for thee.

¹¹Monte en Galaad, prends du baume, Vierge, fille de l'Egypte! En vain tu multiplies les remèdes, Il n'y a point de guérison pour toi.

¹¹עלי גלעד וקחי צרי בתולת בת מצרים לשוא הרביתי רפאות תעלה אין לך׃

¹²The nations have heard of thy shame, and the earth is full of thy cry; for the mighty man hath stumbled against the mighty, they are fallen both of them together.

¹²Les nations apprennent ta honte, Et tes cris remplissent la terre, Car les guerriers chancellent l'un sur l'autre, Ils tombent tous ensemble.

¹²שמעו גוים קלונך וצוחתך מלאה הארץ כי גבור בגבור כשלו יחדיו נפלו שניהם׃

¹³The word that Jehovah spake to Jeremiah the prophet, how that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon should come and smite the land of Egypt.

¹³La parole qui fut adressée par l'Eternel à Jérémie, le prophète, sur l'arrivée de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, qui voulait frapper le pays d'Egypte.

¹³הדבר אשר דבר יהוה אל ירמיהו הנביא לבוא נבוכדראצר מלך בבל להכות את ארץ מצרים׃

¹⁴Declare ye in Egypt, and publish in Migdol, and publish in Memphis and in Tahpanhes: say ye, Stand forth, and prepare thee; for the sword hath devoured round about thee.

¹⁴Annoncez-le en Egypte, Publiez-le à Migdol, Publiez-le à Noph et à Tachpanès! Dites: Lève-toi, prépare-toi, Car l'épée dévore autour de toi!

¹⁴הגידו במצרים והשמיעו במגדול והשמיעו בנף ובתחפנחס אמרו התיצב והכן לך כי אכלה חרב סביביך׃

¹⁵Why are thy strong ones swept away? they stood not, because Jehovah did drive them.

¹⁵Pourquoi tes vaillants hommes sont-ils emportés? Ils ne tiennent pas ferme, car l'Eternel les renverse.

¹⁵מדוע נסחף אביריך לא עמד כי יהוה הדפו׃

¹⁶He made many to stumble, yea, they fell one upon another: and they said, Arise, and let us go again to our own people, and to the land of our nativity, from the oppressing sword.

¹⁶Il en fait chanceler un grand nombre; Ils tombent l'un sur l'autre, et ils disent: Allons, retournons vers notre peuple, Dans notre pays natal, Loin du glaive destructeur!

¹⁶הרבה כושל גם נפל איש אל רעהו ויאמרו קומה ונשבה אל עמנו ואל ארץ מולדתנו מפני חרב היונה׃

¹⁷They cried there, Pharaoh king of Egypt is but a noise; he hath let the appointed time pass by.

¹⁷Là, on s'écrie: Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, Ce n'est qu'un bruit; il a laissé passer le moment.

¹⁷קראו שם פרעה מלך מצרים שאון העביר המועד׃

¹⁸As I live, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts, surely like Tabor among the mountains, and like Carmel by the sea, so shall he come.

¹⁸Je suis vivant! dit le roi, Dont l'Eternel des armées est le nom, Comme le Thabor parmi les montagnes, Comme le Carmel qui s'avance dans la mer, il viendra.

¹⁸חי אני נאם המלך יהוה צבאות שמו כי כתבור בהרים וככרמל בים יבוא׃

¹⁹O thou daughter that dwellest in Egypt, furnish thyself to go into captivity; for Memphis shall become a desolation, and shall be burnt up, without inhabitant.

¹⁹Fais ton bagage pour la captivité, Habitante, fille de L'Egypte! Car Noph deviendra un désert, Elle sera ravagée, elle n'aura plus d'habitants.

¹⁹כלי גולה עשי לך יושבת בת מצרים כי נף לשמה תהיה ונצתה מאין יושב׃

²⁰Egypt is a very fair heifer; [but] destruction out of the north is come, it is come.

²⁰L'Egypte est une très belle génisse... Le destructeur vient du septentrion, il arrive...

²⁰עגלה יפה פיה מצרים קרץ מצפון בא בא׃

²¹Also her hired men in the midst of her are like calves of the stall; for they also are turned back, they are fled away together, they did not stand: for the day of their calamity is come upon them, the time of their visitation.

²¹Ses mercenaires aussi sont au milieu d'elle comme des veaux engraissés. Et eux aussi, ils tournent le dos, ils fuient tous sans résister. Car le jour de leur malheur fond sur eux, Le temps de leur châtiment.

²¹גם שכריה בקרבה כעגלי מרבק כי גם המה הפנו נסו יחדיו לא עמדו כי יום אידם בא עליהם עת פקדתם׃

²²The sound thereof shall go like the serpent; for they shall march with an army, and come against her with axes, as hewers of wood.

²²Sa voix se fait entendre comme celle du serpent; Car ils s'avancent avec une armée, Ils marchent contre elle avec des haches, Pareils à des bûcherons.

²²קולה כנחש ילך כי בחיל ילכו ובקרדמות באו לה כחטבי עצים׃

²³They shall cut down her forest, saith Jehovah, though it cannot be searched; because they are more than the locusts, and are innumerable.

²³Ils abattent sa forêt, dit l'Eternel, Bien qu'elle soit impénétrable; Car ils sont plus nombreux que les sauterelles, On ne pourrait les compter.

²³כרתו יערה נאם יהוה כי לא יחקר כי רבו מארבה ואין להם מספר׃

²⁴The daughter of Egypt shall be put to shame; she shall be delivered into the hand of the people of the north.

²⁴La fille de l'Egypte est confuse, Elle est livrée entre les mains du peuple du septentrion.

²⁴הבישה בת מצרים נתנה ביד עם צפון׃

²⁵Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saith: Behold, I will punish Amon of No, and Pharaoh, and Egypt, with her gods, and her kings; even Pharaoh, and them that trust in him:

²⁵L'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël, dit: Voici, je vais châtier Amon de No, Pharaon, l'Egypte, ses dieux et ses rois, Pharaon et ceux qui se confient en lui.

²⁵אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני פוקד אל אמון מנא ועל פרעה ועל מצרים ועל אלהיה ועל מלכיה ועל פרעה ועל הבטחים בו׃

²⁶and I will deliver them into the hand of those that seek their lives, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of his servants; and afterwards it shall be inhabited, as in the days of old, saith Jehovah.

²⁶Je les livrerai entre les mains de ceux qui en veulent à leur vie, Entre les mains de Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, Et entre les mains de ses serviteurs; Et après cela, l'Egypte sera habitée comme aux jours d'autrefois, Dit l'Eternel.

²⁶ונתתים ביד מבקשי נפשם וביד נבוכדראצר מלך בבל וביד עבדיו ואחרי כן תשכן כימי קדם נאם יהוה׃

²⁷But fear not thou, O Jacob my servant, neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will save thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be quiet and at ease, and none shall make him afraid.

²⁷Et toi, mon serviteur Jacob, ne crains pas; Ne t'effraie pas, Israël! Car je te délivrerai de la terre lointaine, Je délivrerai ta postérité du pays où elle est captive; Jacob reviendra, il jouira du repos et de la tranquillité, Et il n'y aura personne pour le troubler.

²⁷ואתה אל תירא עבדי יעקב ואל תחת ישראל כי הנני מושעך מרחוק ואת זרעך מארץ שבים ושב יעקוב ושקט ושאנן ואין מחריד׃

²⁸Fear not thou, O Jacob my servant, saith Jehovah; for I am with thee: for I will make a full end of all the nations whither I have driven thee; but I will not make a full end of thee, but I will correct thee in measure, and will in no wise leave thee unpunished.

²⁸Toi, mon serviteur Jacob, ne crains pas! dit l'Eternel; Car je suis avec toi. J'anéantirai toutes les nations parmi lesquelles je t'ai dispersé, Mais toi, je ne t'anéantirai pas; Je te châtierai avec équité, Je ne puis pas te laisser impuni.

²⁸אתה אל תירא עבדי יעקב נאם יהוה כי אתך אני כי אעשה כלה בכל הגוים אשר הדחתיך שמה ואתך לא אעשה כלה ויסרתיך למשפט ונקה לא אנקך׃
