¹Thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will raise up against Babylon, and against them that dwell in Leb-kamai, a destroying wind.

¹Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je fais lever contre Babylone, Et contre les habitants de la Chaldée, Un vent destructeur.

¹כה אמר יהוה הנני מעיר על בבל ואל ישבי לב קמי רוח משחית׃

²And I will send unto Babylon strangers, that shall winnow her; and they shall empty her land: for in the day of trouble they shall be against her round about.

²J'envoie contre Babylone des vanneurs qui la vanneront, Qui videront son pays; Ils fondront de toutes parts sur elle, Au jour du malheur.

²ושלחתי לבבל זרים וזרוה ויבקקו את ארצה כי היו עליה מסביב ביום רעה׃

³Against [him that] bendeth let the archer bend his bow, and against [him that] lifteth himself up in his coat of mail: and spare ye not her young men; destroy ye utterly all her host.

³Qu'on tende l'arc contre celui qui tend son arc, Contre celui qui est fier dans sa cuirasse! N'épargnez pas ses jeunes hommes! Exterminez toute son armée!

³אל ידרך ידרך הדרך קשתו ואל יתעל בסרינו ואל תחמלו אל בחריה החרימו כל צבאה׃

⁴And they shall fall down slain in the land of the Chaldeans, and thrust through in her streets.

⁴Qu'ils tombent blessés à mort dans le pays des Chaldéens, Percés de coups dans les rues de Babylone!

⁴ונפלו חללים בארץ כשדים ומדקרים בחוצותיה׃

⁵For Israel is not forsaken, nor Judah, of his God, of Jehovah of hosts; though their land is full of guilt against the Holy One of Israel.

⁵Car Israël et Juda ne sont point abandonnés de leur Dieu, De l'Eternel des armées, Et le pays des Chaldéens est rempli de crimes Contre le Saint d'Israël.

⁵כי לא אלמן ישראל ויהודה מאלהיו מיהוה צבאות כי ארצם מלאה אשם מקדוש ישראל׃

⁶Flee out of the midst of Babylon, and save every man his life; be not cut off in her iniquity: for it is the time of Jehovah's vengeance; he will render unto her a recompense.

⁶Fuyez de Babylone, et que chacun sauve sa vie, De peur que vous ne périssiez dans sa ruine! Car c'est un temps de vengeance pour l'Eternel; Il va lui rendre selon ses oeuvres.

⁶נסו מתוך בבל ומלטו איש נפשו אל תדמו בעונה כי עת נקמה היא ליהוה גמול הוא משלם לה׃

⁷Babylon hath been a golden cup in Jehovah's hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunk of her wine; therefore the nations are mad.

⁷Babylone était dans la main de l'Eternel une coupe d'or, Qui enivrait toute la terre; Les nations ont bu de son vin: C'est pourquoi les nations ont été comme en délire.

⁷כוס זהב בבל ביד יהוה משכרת כל הארץ מיינה שתו גוים על כן יתהללו גוים׃

⁸Babylon is suddenly fallen and destroyed: wail for her; take balm for her pain, if so be she may be healed.

⁸Soudain Babylone tombe, elle est brisée! Gémissez sur elle, prenez du baume pour sa plaie: Peut-être guérira-t-elle. -

⁸פתאם נפלה בבל ותשבר הילילו עליה קחו צרי למכאובה אולי תרפא׃

⁹We would have healed Babylon, but she is not healed: forsake her, and let us go every one into his own country; for her judgment reacheth unto heaven, and is lifted up even to the skies.

⁹Nous avons voulu guérir Babylone, mais elle n'a pas guéri. Abandonnons-la, et allons chacun dans son pays; Car son châtiment atteint jusqu'aux cieux, Et s'élève jusqu'aux nues.

⁹רפאנו את בבל ולא נרפתה עזבוה ונלך איש לארצו כי נגע אל השמים משפטה ונשא עד שחקים׃

¹⁰Jehovah hath brought forth our righteousness: come, and let us declare in Zion the work of Jehovah our God.

¹⁰L'Eternel manifeste la justice de notre cause; Venez, et racontons dans Sion L'oeuvre de l'Eternel, notre Dieu.

¹⁰הוציא יהוה את צדקתינו באו ונספרה בציון את מעשה יהוה אלהינו׃

¹¹Make sharp the arrows; hold firm the shields: Jehovah hath stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes; because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it: for it is the vengeance of Jehovah, the vengeance of his temple.

¹¹Aiguisez les flèches, saisissez les boucliers! L'Eternel a excité l'esprit des rois de Médie, Parce qu'il veut détruire Babylone; Car c'est la vengeance de l'Eternel, La vengeance de son temple.

¹¹הברו החצים מלאו השלטים העיר יהוה את רוח מלכי מדי כי על בבל מזמתו להשחיתה כי נקמת יהוה היא נקמת היכלו׃

¹²Set up a standard against the walls of Babylon, make the watch strong, set the watchmen, prepare the ambushes; for Jehovah hath both purposed and done that which he spake concerning the inhabitants of Babylon.

¹²Elevez une bannière contre les murs de Babylone! Fortifiez les postes, placez des gardes, dressez des embuscades! Car l'Eternel a pris une résolution, Et il exécute ce qu'il a prononcé contre les habitants de Babylone.

¹²אל חומת בבל שאו נס החזיקו המשמר הקימו שמרים הכינו הארבים כי גם זמם יהוה גם עשה את אשר דבר אל ישבי בבל׃

¹³O thou that dwellest upon many waters, abundant in treasures, thine end is come, the measure of thy covetousness.

¹³Toi qui habites près des grandes eaux, Et qui as d'immenses trésors, Ta fin est venue, ta cupidité est à son terme!

¹³שכנתי על מים רבים רבת אוצרת בא קצך אמת בצעך׃

¹⁴Jehovah of hosts hath sworn by himself, [saying], Surely I will fill thee with men, as with the canker-worm; and they shall lift up a shout against thee.

¹⁴L'Eternel des armées l'a juré par lui-même: Oui, je te remplirai d'hommes comme de sauterelles, Et ils pousseront contre toi des cris de guerre.

¹⁴נשבע יהוה צבאות בנפשו כי אם מלאתיך אדם כילק וענו עליך הידד׃

¹⁵He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding hath he stretched out the heavens:

¹⁵Il a crée la terre par sa puissance, Il a fondé le monde par sa sagesse, Il a étendu les cieux par son intelligence.

¹⁵עשה ארץ בכחו מכין תבל בחכמתו ובתבונתו נטה שמים׃

¹⁶when he uttereth his voice, there is a tumult of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings for the rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasuries.

¹⁶A sa voix, les eaux mugissent dans les cieux, Il fait monter les nuages des extrémités de la terre, Il produit les éclairs et la pluie, Il tire le vent de ses trésors.

¹⁶לקול תתו המון מים בשמים ויעל נשאים מקצה ארץ ברקים למטר עשה ויוצא רוח מאצרתיו׃

¹⁷Every man is become brutish [and is] without knowledge; every goldsmith is put to shame by his image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.

¹⁷Tout homme devient stupide par sa science, Tout orfèvre est honteux de son image taillée; Car ses idoles ne sont que mensonge, Il n'y a point en elles de souffle.

¹⁷נבער כל אדם מדעת הביש כל צרף מפסל כי שקר נסכו ולא רוח בם׃

¹⁸They are vanity, a work of delusion: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.

¹⁸Elles sont une chose de néant, une oeuvre de tromperie; Elles périront, quand viendra le châtiment.

¹⁸הבל המה מעשה תעתעים בעת פקדתם יאבדו׃

¹⁹The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the former of all things; and [Israel] is the tribe of his inheritance: Jehovah of hosts is his name.

¹⁹Celui qui est la part de Jacob n'est pas comme elles; Car c'est lui qui a tout formé, Et Israël est la tribu de son héritage. L'Eternel des armées est son nom.

¹⁹לא כאלה חלק יעקוב כי יוצר הכל הוא ושבט נחלתו יהוה צבאות שמו׃

²⁰Thou art my battle-axe and weapons of war: and with thee will I break in pieces the nations; and with thee will I destroy kingdoms;

²⁰Tu as été pour moi un marteau, un instrument de guerre. J'ai brisé par toi des nations, Par toi j'ai détruit des royaumes.

²⁰מפץ אתה לי כלי מלחמה ונפצתי בך גוים והשחתי בך ממלכות׃

²¹and with thee will I break in pieces the horse and his rider;

²¹Par toi j'ai brisé le cheval et son cavalier; Par toi j'ai brisé le char et celui qui était dessus.

²¹ונפצתי בך סוס ורכבו ונפצתי בך רכב ורכבו׃

²²and with thee will I break in pieces the chariot and him that rideth therein; and with thee will I break in pieces man and woman; and with thee will I break in pieces the old man and the youth; and with thee will I break in pieces the young man and the virgin;

²²Par toi j'ai brisé l'homme et la femme; Par toi j'ai brisé le vieillard et l'enfant; Par toi j'ai brisé le jeune homme et la jeune fille.

²²ונפצתי בך איש ואשה ונפצתי בך זקן ונער ונפצתי בך בחור ובתולה׃

²³and with thee will I break in pieces the shepherd and his flock; and with thee will I break in pieces the husbandman and his yoke [of oxen]; and with thee will I break in pieces governors and deputies.

²³Par toi j'ai brisé le berger et son troupeau; Par toi j'ai brisé le laboureur et ses boeufs; Par toi j'ai brisé les gouverneurs et les chefs.

²³ונפצתי בך רעה ועדרו ונפצתי בך אכר וצמדו ונפצתי בך פחות וסגנים׃

²⁴And I will render unto Babylon and to all the inhabitants of Chaldea all their evil that they have done in Zion in your sight, saith Jehovah.

²⁴Je rendrai à Babylone et à tous les habitants de la Chaldée Tout le mal qu'ils ont fait à Sion sous vos yeux, Dit l'Eternel.

²⁴ושלמתי לבבל ולכל יושבי כשדים את כל רעתם אשר עשו בציון לעיניכם נאם יהוה׃

²⁵Behold, I am against thee, O destroying mountain, saith Jehovah, which destroyest all the earth; and I will stretch out my hand upon thee, and roll thee down from the rocks, and will make thee a burnt mountain.

²⁵Voici, j'en veux à toi, montagne de destruction, dit l'Eternel, A toi qui détruisais toute la terre! J'étendrai ma main sur toi, Je te roulerai du haut des rochers, Et je ferai de toi une montagne embrasée.

²⁵הנני אליך הר המשחית נאם יהוה המשחית את כל הארץ ונטיתי את ידי עליך וגלגלתיך מן הסלעים ונתתיך להר שרפה׃

²⁶And they shall not take of thee a stone for a corner, nor a stone for foundations; but thou shalt be desolate for ever, saith Jehovah.

²⁶On ne tirera de toi ni pierres angulaires, ni pierres pour fondements; Car tu seras à jamais une ruine, dit l'Eternel...

²⁶ולא יקחו ממך אבן לפנה ואבן למוסדות כי שממות עולם תהיה נאם יהוה׃

²⁷Set ye up a standard in the land, blow the trumpet among the nations, prepare the nations against her, call together against her the kingdoms of Ararat, Minni, and Ashkenaz: appoint a marshal against her; cause the horses to come up as the rough canker-worm.

²⁷Elevez une bannière dans le pays! Sonnez de la trompette parmi les nations! Préparez les nations contre elle, Appelez contre elle les royaumes d'Ararat, de Minni et d'Aschkenaz! Etablissez contre elle des chefs! Faites avancer des chevaux comme des sauterelles hérissées!

²⁷שאו נס בארץ תקעו שופר בגוים קדשו עליה גוים השמיעו עליה ממלכות אררט מני ואשכנז פקדו עליה טפסר העלו סוס כילק סמר׃

²⁸Prepare against her the nations, the kings of the Medes, the governors thereof, and all the deputies thereof, and all the land of their dominion.

²⁸Préparez contre elle les nations, les rois de Médie, Ses gouverneurs et tous ses chefs, Et tout le pays sous leur domination!

²⁸קדשו עליה גוים את מלכי מדי את פחותיה ואת כל סגניה ואת כל ארץ ממשלתו׃

²⁹And the land trembleth and is in pain; for the purposes of Jehovah against Babylon do stand, to make the land of Babylon a desolation, without inhabitant.

²⁹La terre s'ébranle, elle tremble; Car le dessein de l'Eternel contre Babylone s'accomplit; Il va faire du pays de Babylone un désert sans habitants.

²⁹ותרעש הארץ ותחל כי קמה על בבל מחשבות יהוה לשום את ארץ בבל לשמה מאין יושב׃

³⁰The mighty men of Babylon have forborne to fight, they remain in their strongholds; their might hath failed; they are become as women: her dwelling-places are set on fire; her bars are broken.

³⁰Les guerriers de Babylone cessent de combattre, Ils se tiennent dans les forteresses; Leur force est épuisée, ils sont comme des femmes. On met le feu aux habitations, On brise les barres.

³⁰חדלו גבורי בבל להלחם ישבו במצדות נשתה גבורתם היו לנשים הציתו משכנתיה נשברו בריחיה׃

³¹One post shall run to meet another, and one messenger to met another, to show the king of Babylon that his city is taken on every quarter:

³¹Les courriers se rencontrent, Les messagers se croisent, Pour annoncer au roi de Babylone Que sa ville est prise par tous les côtés,

³¹רץ לקראת רץ ירוץ ומגיד לקראת מגיד להגיד למלך בבל כי נלכדה עירו מקצה׃

³²and the passages are seized, and the reeds they have burned with fire, and the men of war are affrighted.

³²Que les passages sont envahis, Les marais embrasés par le feu, Et les hommes de guerre consternés.

³²והמעברות נתפשו ואת האגמים שרפו באש ואנשי המלחמה נבהלו׃

³³For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: The daughter of Babylon is like a threshing-floor at the time when it is trodden; yet a little while, and the time of harvest shall come for her.

³³Car ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: La fille de Babylone est comme une aire dans le temps où on la foule; Encore un instant, et le moment de la moisson sera venu pour elle.

³³כי כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל בת בבל כגרן עת הדריכה עוד מעט ובאה עת הקציר לה׃

³⁴Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon hath devoured me, he hath crushed me, he hath made me an empty vessel, he hath, like a monster, swallowed me up, he hath filled his maw with my delicacies; he hath cast me out.

³⁴Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, m'a dévorée, m'a détruite; Il a fait de moi un vase vide; Tel un dragon, il m'a engloutie, Il a rempli son ventre de ce que j'avais de précieux; Il m'a chassée.

³⁴אכלנו הממנו נבוכדראצר מלך בבל הציגנו כלי ריק בלענו כתנין מלא כרשו מעדני הדיחנו׃

³⁵The violence done to me and to my flesh be upon Babylon, shall the inhabitant of Zion say; and, My blood be upon the inhabitants of Chaldea, shall Jerusalem say.

³⁵Que la violence envers moi et ma chair déchirée retombent sur Babylone! Dit l'habitante de Sion. Que mon sang retombe sur les habitants de la Chaldée! Dit Jérusalem. -

³⁵חמסי ושארי על בבל תאמר ישבת ציון ודמי אל ישבי כשדים תאמר ירושלם׃

³⁶Therefore thus saith Jehovah: Behold, I will plead thy cause, and take vengeance for thee; and I will dry up her sea, and make her fountain dry.

³⁶C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel: Voici, je défendrai ta cause, Je te vengerai! Je mettrai à sec la mer de Babylone, Et je ferai tarir sa source.

³⁶לכן כה אמר יהוה הנני רב את ריבך ונקמתי את נקמתך והחרבתי את ימה והבשתי את מקורה׃

³⁷And Babylon shall become heaps, a dwelling-place for jackals, an astonishment, and a hissing, without inhabitant.

³⁷Babylone sera un monceau de ruines, un repaire de chacals, Un objet de désolation et de moquerie; Il n'y aura plus d'habitants.

³⁷והיתה בבל לגלים מעון תנים שמה ושרקה מאין יושב׃

³⁸They shall roar together like young lions; they shall growl as lions' whelps.

³⁸Ils rugiront ensemble comme des lions, Ils pousseront des cris comme des lionceaux.

³⁸יחדו ככפרים ישאגו נערו כגורי אריות׃

³⁹When they are heated, I will make their feast, and I will make them drunken, that they may rejoice, and sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith Jehovah.

³⁹Quand ils seront échauffés, je les ferai boire, Et je les enivrerai, pour qu'ils se livrent à la gaîté, Puis s'endorment d'un sommeil éternel, et ne se réveillent plus, Dit l'Eternel.

³⁹בחמם אשית את משתיהם והשכרתים למען יעלזו וישנו שנת עולם ולא יקיצו נאם יהוה׃

⁴⁰I will bring them down like lambs to the slaughter, like rams with he-goats.

⁴⁰Je les ferai descendre comme des agneaux à la tuerie, Comme des béliers et des boucs.

⁴⁰אורידם ככרים לטבוח כאילים עם עתודים׃

⁴¹How is Sheshach taken! and the praise of the whole earth seized! how is Babylon become a desolation among the nations!

⁴¹Eh quoi! Schéschac est prise! Celle dont la gloire remplissait toute la terre est conquise! Eh quoi! Babylone est détruite au milieu des nations!

⁴¹איך נלכדה ששך ותתפש תהלת כל הארץ איך היתה לשמה בבל בגוים׃

⁴²The sea is come up upon Babylon; she is covered with the multitude of the waves thereof.

⁴²La mer est montée sur Babylone: Babylone a été couverte par la multitude de ses flots.

⁴²עלה על בבל הים בהמון גליו נכסתה׃

⁴³Her cities are become a desolation, a dry land, and a desert, a land wherein no man dwelleth, neither doth any son of man pass thereby.

⁴³Ses villes sont ravagées, La terre est aride et déserte; C'est un pays où personne n'habite, Où ne passe aucun homme.

⁴³היו עריה לשמה ארץ ציה וערבה ארץ לא ישב בהן כל איש ולא יעבר בהן בן אדם׃

⁴⁴And I will execute judgment upon Bel in Babylon, and I will bring forth out of his mouth that which he hath swallowed up; and the nations shall not flow any more unto him: yea, the wall of Babylon shall fall.

⁴⁴Je châtierai Bel à Babylone, J'arracherai de sa bouche ce qu'il a englouti, Et les nations n'afflueront plus vers lui. La muraille même de Babylone est tombée!

⁴⁴ופקדתי על בל בבבל והצאתי את בלעו מפיו ולא ינהרו אליו עוד גוים גם חומת בבל נפלה׃

⁴⁵My people, go ye out of the midst of her, and save yourselves every man from the fierce anger of Jehovah.

⁴⁵Sortez du milieu d'elle, mon peuple, Et que chacun sauve sa vie, En échappant à la colère ardente de l'Eternel!

⁴⁵צאו מתוכה עמי ומלטו איש את נפשו מחרון אף יהוה׃

⁴⁶And let not your heart faint, neither fear ye for the tidings that shall be heard in the land; for tidings shall come one year, and after that in another year [shall come] tidings, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler.

⁴⁶Que votre coeur ne se trouble point, et ne vous effrayez pas Des bruits qui se répandront dans le pays; Car cette année surviendra un bruit, Et l'année suivante un autre bruit, La violence régnera dans le pays, Et un dominateur s'élèvera contre un autre dominateur.

⁴⁶ופן ירך לבבכם ותיראו בשמועה הנשמעת בארץ ובא בשנה השמועה ואחריו בשנה השמועה וחמס בארץ ומשל על משל׃

⁴⁷Therefore, behold, the days come, that I will execute judgment upon the graven images of Babylon; and her whole land shall be confounded; and all her slain shall fall in the midst of her.

⁴⁷C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent Où je châtierai les idoles de Babylone, Et tout son pays sera couvert de honte; Tous ses morts tomberont au milieu d'elle.

⁴⁷לכן הנה ימים באים ופקדתי על פסילי בבל וכל ארצה תבוש וכל חלליה יפלו בתוכה׃

⁴⁸Then the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, shall sing for joy over Babylon; for the destroyers shall come unto her from the north, saith Jehovah.

⁴⁸Sur Babylone retentiront les cris de joie des cieux et de la terre, Et de tout ce qu'ils renferment; Car du septentrion les dévastateurs fondront sur elle, Dit l'Eternel.

⁴⁸ורננו על בבל שמים וארץ וכל אשר בהם כי מצפון יבוא לה השודדים נאם יהוה׃

⁴⁹As Babylon hath caused the slain of Israel to fall, so at Babylon shall fall the slain of all the land.

⁴⁹Babylone aussi tombera, ô morts d'Israël, Comme elle a fait tomber les morts de tout le pays.

⁴⁹גם בבל לנפל חללי ישראל גם לבבל נפלו חללי כל הארץ׃

⁵⁰Ye that have escaped the sword, go ye, stand not still; remember Jehovah from afar, and let Jerusalem come into your mind.

⁵⁰Vous qui avez échappé au glaive, partez, ne tardez pas! De la terre lointaine, pensez à l'Eternel, Et que Jérusalem soit présente à vos coeurs! -

⁵⁰פלטים מחרב הלכו אל תעמדו זכרו מרחוק את יהוה וירושלם תעלה על לבבכם׃

⁵¹We are confounded, because we have heard reproach; confusion hath covered our faces: for strangers are come into the sanctuaries of Jehovah's house.

⁵¹Nous étions confus, quand nous entendions l'insulte; La honte couvrait nos visages, Quand des étrangers sont venus Dans le sanctuaire de la maison de l'Eternel. -

⁵¹בשנו כי שמענו חרפה כסתה כלמה פנינו כי באו זרים על מקדשי בית יהוה׃

⁵²Wherefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will execute judgment upon her graven images; and through all her land the wounded shall groan.

⁵²C'est pourquoi voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où je châtierai ses idoles; Et dans tout son pays les blessés gémiront.

⁵²לכן הנה ימים באים נאם יהוה ופקדתי על פסיליה ובכל ארצה יאנק חלל׃

⁵³Though Babylon should mount up to heaven, and though she should fortify the height of her strength, yet from me shall destroyers come unto her, saith Jehovah.

⁵³Quand Babylone s'élèverait jusqu'aux cieux, Quand elle rendrait inaccessibles ses hautes forteresses, J'enverrai contre elle les dévastateurs, dit l'Eternel...

⁵³כי תעלה בבל השמים וכי תבצר מרום עזה מאתי יבאו שדדים לה נאם יהוה׃

⁵⁴The sound of a cry from Babylon, and of great destruction from the land of the Chaldeans!

⁵⁴Des cris s'échappent de Babylone, Et le désastre est grand dans le pays des Chaldéens.

⁵⁴קול זעקה מבבל ושבר גדול מארץ כשדים׃

⁵⁵For Jehovah layeth Babylon waste, and destroyeth out of her the great voice; and their waves roar like many waters; the noise of their voice is uttered:

⁵⁵Car l'Eternel ravage Babylone, Il en fait cesser les cris retentissants; Les flots des dévastateurs mugissent comme de grandes eaux, Dont le bruit tumultueux se fait entendre.

⁵⁵כי שדד יהוה את בבל ואבד ממנה קול גדול והמו גליהם כמים רבים נתן שאון קולם׃

⁵⁶for the destroyer is come upon her, even upon Babylon, and her mighty men are taken, their bows are broken in pieces; for Jehovah is a God of recompenses, he will surely requite.

⁵⁶Oui, le dévastateur fond sur elle, sur Babylone; Les guerriers de Babylone sont pris, Leurs arcs sont brisés. Car l'Eternel est un Dieu qui rend à chacun selon ses oeuvres, Qui paie à chacun son salaire.

⁵⁶כי בא עליה על בבל שודד ונלכדו גבוריה חתתה קשתותם כי אל גמלות יהוה שלם ישלם׃

⁵⁷And I will make drunk her princes and her wise men, her governors and her deputies, and her mighty men; and they shall sleep a perpetual sleep, and not wake, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts.

⁵⁷J'enivrerai ses princes et ses sages, Ses gouverneurs, ses chefs et ses guerriers; Ils s'endormiront d'un sommeil éternel, et ne se réveilleront plus, Dit le roi, dont l'Eternel des armées est le nom.

⁵⁷והשכרתי שריה וחכמיה פחותיה וסגניה וגבוריה וישנו שנת עולם ולא יקיצו נאם המלך יהוה צבאות שמו׃

⁵⁸Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: The broad walls of Babylon shall be utterly overthrown, and her high gates shall be burned with fire; and the peoples shall labor for vanity, and the nations for the fire; and they shall be weary.

⁵⁸Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Les larges murailles de Babylone seront renversées, Ses hautes portes seront brûlées par le feu; Ainsi les peuples auront travaillé en vain, Les nations se seront fatiguées pour le feu.

⁵⁸כה אמר יהוה צבאות חמות בבל הרחבה ערער תתערער ושעריה הגבהים באש יצתו ויגעו עמים בדי ריק ולאמים בדי אש ויעפו׃

⁵⁹The word which Jeremiah the prophet commanded Seraiah the son of Neriah, the son of Mahseiah, when he went with Zedekiah the king of Judah to Babylon in the fourth year of his reign. Now Seraiah was chief chamberlain.

⁵⁹Ordre donné par Jérémie, le prophète, à Seraja, fils de Nérija, fils de Machséja, lorsqu'il se rendit à Babylone avec Sédécias, roi de Juda, la quatrième année du règne de Sédécias. Or, Seraja était premier chambellan.

⁵⁹הדבר אשר צוה ירמיהו הנביא את שריה בן נריה בן מחסיה בלכתו את צדקיהו מלך יהודה בבל בשנת הרבעית למלכו ושריה שר מנוחה׃

⁶⁰And Jeremiah wrote in a book all the evil that should come upon Babylon, even all these words that are written concerning Babylon.

⁶⁰Jérémie écrivit dans un livre tous les malheurs qui devaient arriver à Babylone, toutes ces paroles qui sont écrites sur Babylone.

⁶⁰ויכתב ירמיהו את כל הרעה אשר תבוא אל בבל אל ספר אחד את כל הדברים האלה הכתבים אל בבל׃

⁶¹And Jeremiah said to Seraiah, When thou comest to Babylon, then see that thou read all these words,

⁶¹Jérémie dit à Seraja: Lorsque tu seras arrivé à Babylone, tu auras soin de lire toutes ces paroles,

⁶¹ויאמר ירמיהו אל שריה כבאך בבל וראית וקראת את כל הדברים האלה׃

⁶²and say, O Jehovah, thou hast spoken concerning this place, to cut it off, that none shall dwell therein, neither man nor beast, but that it shall be desolate for ever.

⁶²et tu diras: Eternel, c'est toi qui as déclaré que ce lieu serait détruit, et qu'il ne serait plus habité ni par les hommes ni par les bêtes, mais qu'il deviendrait un désert pour toujours.

⁶²ואמרת יהוה אתה דברת אל המקום הזה להכריתו לבלתי היות בו יושב למאדם ועד בהמה כי שממות עולם תהיה׃

⁶³And it shall be, when thou hast made an end of reading this book, that thou shalt bind a stone to it, and cast it into the midst of the Euphrates:

⁶³Et quand tu auras achevé la lecture de ce livre, tu y attacheras une pierre, et tu le jetteras dans l'Euphrate,

⁶³והיה ככלתך לקרא את הספר הזה תקשר עליו אבן והשלכתו אל תוך פרת׃

⁶⁴and thou shalt say, Thus shall Babylon sink, and shall not rise again because of the evil that I will bring upon her; and they shall be weary. Thus far are the words of Jeremiah.

⁶⁴et tu diras: Ainsi Babylone sera submergée, elle ne se relèvera pas des malheurs que j'amènerai sur elle; ils tomberont épuisés. Jusqu'ici sont les paroles de Jérémie.

⁶⁴ואמרת ככה תשקע בבל ולא תקום מפני הרעה אשר אנכי מביא עליה ויעפו עד הנה דברי ירמיהו׃
