¹Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!

¹Oh! si ma tête était remplie d'eau, Si mes yeux étaient une source de larmes, Je pleurerais jour et nuit Les morts de la fille de mon peuple!

¹מי יתן ראשי מים ועיני מקור דמעה ואבכה יומם ולילה את חללי בת עמי׃

²Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging-place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they are all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.

²Oh! si j'avais au désert une cabane de voyageurs, J'abandonnerais mon peuple, je m'en éloignerais! Car ce sont tous des adultères, C'est une troupe de perfides.

²מי יתנני במדבר מלון ארחים ואעזבה את עמי ואלכה מאתם כי כלם מנאפים עצרת בגדים׃

³And they bend their tongue, [as it were] their bow, for falsehood; and they are grown strong in the land, but not for truth: for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith Jehovah.

³Ils ont la langue tendue comme un arc et lancent le mensonge; Ce n'est pas par la vérité qu'ils sont puissants dans le pays; Car ils vont de méchanceté en méchanceté, Et ils ne me connaissent pas, dit l'Eternel.

³וידרכו את לשונם קשתם שקר ולא לאמונה גברו בארץ כי מרעה אל רעה יצאו ואתי לא ידעו נאם יהוה׃

⁴Take ye heed every one of his neighbor, and trust ye not in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go about with slanders.

⁴Que chacun se tienne en garde contre son ami, Et qu'on ne se fie à aucun de ses frères; Car tout frère cherche à tromper, Et tout ami répand des calomnies.

⁴איש מרעהו השמרו ועל כל אח אל תבטחו כי כל אח עקוב יעקב וכל רע רכיל יהלך׃

⁵And they will deceive every one his neighbor, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies; they weary themselves to commit iniquity.

⁵Ils se jouent les uns des autres, Et ne disent point la vérité; Ils exercent leur langue à mentir, Ils s'étudient à faire le mal.

⁵ואיש ברעהו יהתלו ואמת לא ידברו למדו לשונם דבר שקר העוה נלאו׃

⁶Thy habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith Jehovah.

⁶Ta demeure est au sein de la fausseté; C'est par fausseté qu'ils refusent de me connaître, Dit l'Eternel.

⁶שבתך בתוך מרמה במרמה מאנו דעת אותי נאם יהוה׃

⁷Therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how [else] should I do, because of the daughter of my people?

⁷C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Voici je les sonderai, je les éprouverai. Car comment agir à l'égard de la fille de mon peuple?

⁷לכן כה אמר יהוה צבאות הנני צורפם ובחנתים כי איך אעשה מפני בת עמי׃

⁸Their tongue is a deadly arrow; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart he layeth wait for him.

⁸Leur langue est un trait meurtrier, Ils ne disent que des mensonges; De la bouche ils parlent de paix à leur prochain, Et au fond du coeur ils lui dressent des pièges.

⁸חץ שוחט לשונם מרמה דבר בפיו שלום את רעהו ידבר ובקרבו ישים ארבו׃

⁹Shall I not visit them for these things? saith Jehovah; shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

⁹Ne les châtierais-je pas pour ces choses-là, dit l'Eternel, Ne me vengerais-je pas d'une pareille nation?

⁹העל אלה לא אפקד בם נאם יהוה אם בגוי אשר כזה לא תתנקם נפשי׃

¹⁰For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the pastures of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none passeth through; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the birds of the heavens and the beasts are fled, they are gone.

¹⁰Sur les montagnes je veux pleurer et gémir, Sur les plaines du désert je prononce une complainte; Car elles sont brûlées, personne n'y passe, On n'y entend plus la voix des troupeaux; Les oiseaux du ciel et les bêtes ont pris la fuite, ont disparu. -

¹⁰על ההרים אשא בכי ונהי ועל נאות מדבר קינה כי נצתו מבלי איש עבר ולא שמעו קול מקנה מעוף השמים ועד בהמה נדדו הלכו׃

¹¹And I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling-place of jackals; and I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.

¹¹Je ferai de Jérusalem un monceau de ruines, un repaire de chacals, Et je réduirai les villes de Juda en un désert sans habitants. -

¹¹ונתתי את ירושלם לגלים מעון תנים ואת ערי יהודה אתן שממה מבלי יושב׃

¹²Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and [who is] he to whom the mouth of Jehovah hath spoken, that he may declare it? wherefore is the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that none passeth through?

¹²Où est l'homme sage qui comprenne ces choses? Qu'il le dise, celui à qui la bouche de l'Eternel a parlé! Pourquoi le pays est-il détruit, Brûlé comme un désert où personne ne passe?

¹²מי האיש החכם ויבן את זאת ואשר דבר פי יהוה אליו ויגדה על מה אבדה הארץ נצתה כמדבר מבלי עבר׃

¹³And Jehovah saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein,

¹³L'Eternel dit: C'est parce qu'ils ont abandonné ma loi, Que j'avais mise devant eux; Parce qu'ils n'ont point écouté ma voix, Et qu'ils ne l'ont point suivie;

¹³ויאמר יהוה על עזבם את תורתי אשר נתתי לפניהם ולא שמעו בקולי ולא הלכו בה׃

¹⁴but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart, and after the Baalim, which their fathers taught them;

¹⁴Parce qu'ils ont suivi les penchants de leur coeur, Et qu'ils sont allés après les Baals, Comme leurs pères le leur ont appris.

¹⁴וילכו אחרי שררות לבם ואחרי הבעלים אשר למדום אבותם׃

¹⁵therefore thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.

¹⁵C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées, le Dieu d'Israël: Voici, je vais nourrir ce peuple d'absinthe, Et je lui ferai boire des eaux empoisonnées.

¹⁵לכן כה אמר יהוה צבאות אלהי ישראל הנני מאכילם את העם הזה לענה והשקיתים מי ראש׃

¹⁶I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known; and I will send the sword after them, till I have consumed them.

¹⁶Je les disperserai parmi des nations Que n'ont connues ni eux ni leurs pères, Et j'enverrai derrière eux l'épée, Jusqu'à ce que je les aie exterminés.

¹⁶והפצותים בגוים אשר לא ידעו המה ואבותם ושלחתי אחריהם את החרב עד כלותי אותם׃

¹⁷Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for the skilful women, that they may come:

¹⁷Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Cherchez, appelez les pleureuses, et qu'elles viennent! Envoyez vers les femmes habiles, et qu'elles viennent!

¹⁷כה אמר יהוה צבאות התבוננו וקראו למקוננות ותבואינה ואל החכמות שלחו ותבואנה׃

¹⁸and let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.

¹⁸Qu'elles se hâtent de dire sur nous une complainte! Et que les larmes tombent de nos yeux, Que l'eau coule de nos paupières!

¹⁸ותמהרנה ותשנה עלינו נהי ותרדנה עינינו דמעה ועפעפינו יזלו מים׃

¹⁹For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we ruined! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.

¹⁹Car des cris lamentables se font entendre de Sion: Eh quoi! nous sommes détruits! Nous sommes couverts de honte! Il nous faut abandonner le pays! On a renversé nos demeures! -

¹⁹כי קול נהי נשמע מציון איך שדדנו בשנו מאד כי עזבנו ארץ כי השליכו משכנותינו׃

²⁰Yet hear the word of Jehovah, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth; and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbor lamentation.

²⁰Femmes, écoutez la parole de l'Eternel, Et que votre oreille saisisse ce que dit sa bouche! Apprenez à vos filles des chants lugubres, Enseignez-vous des complaintes les unes aux autres!

²⁰כי שמענה נשים דבר יהוה ותקח אזנכם דבר פיו ולמדנה בנותיכם נהי ואשה רעותה קינה׃

²¹For death is come up into our windows, it is entered into our palaces; to cut off the children from without, [and] the young men from the streets.

²¹Car la mort est montée par nos fenêtres, Elle a pénétré dans nos palais; Elle extermine les enfants dans la rue, Les jeunes gens sur les places.

²¹כי עלה מות בחלונינו בא בארמנותינו להכרית עולל מחוץ בחורים מרחבות׃

²²Speak, Thus saith Jehovah, The dead bodies of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman; and none shall gather [them].

²²Dis: Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Les cadavres des hommes tomberont Comme du fumier sur les champs, Comme tombe derrière le moissonneur une gerbe Que personne ne ramasse.

²²דבר כה נאם יהוה ונפלה נבלת האדם כדמן על פני השדה וכעמיר מאחרי הקצר ואין מאסף׃

²³Thus saith Jehovah, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches;

²³Ainsi parle l'Eternel: Que le sage ne se glorifie pas de sa sagesse, Que le fort ne se glorifie pas de sa force, Que le riche ne se glorifie pas de sa richesse.

²³כה אמר יהוה אל יתהלל חכם בחכמתו ואל יתהלל הגבור בגבורתו אל יתהלל עשיר בעשרו׃

²⁴but let him that glorieth glory in this, that he hath understanding, and knoweth me, that I am Jehovah who exerciseth lovingkindness, justice, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith Jehovah.

²⁴Mais que celui qui veut se glorifier se glorifie D'avoir de l'intelligence et de me connaître, De savoir que je suis l'Eternel, Qui exerce la bonté, le droit et la justice sur la terre; Car c'est à cela que je prends plaisir, dit l'Eternel.

²⁴כי אם בזאת יתהלל המתהלל השכל וידע אותי כי אני יהוה עשה חסד משפט וצדקה בארץ כי באלה חפצתי נאם יהוה׃

²⁵Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will punish all them that are circumcised in [their] uncircumcision:

²⁵Voici, les jours viennent, dit l'Eternel, Où je châtierai tous les circoncis qui ne le sont pas de coeur,

²⁵הנה ימים באים נאם יהוה ופקדתי על כל מול בערלה׃

²⁶Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that have the corners [of their hair] cut off, that dwell in the wilderness; for all the nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.

²⁶L'Egypte, Juda, Edom, les enfants d'Ammon, Moab, Tous ceux qui se rasent les coins de la barbe, Ceux qui habitent dans le désert; Car toutes les nations sont incirconcises, Et toute la maison d'Israël a le coeur incirconcis.

²⁶על מצרים ועל יהודה ועל אדום ועל בני עמון ועל מואב ועל כל קצוצי פאה הישבים במדבר כי כל הגוים ערלים וכל בית ישראל ערלי לב׃
