1Now before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto his Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
1Avant la fête de Pâque, Jésus, sachant que son heure était venue de passer de ce monde au Père, et ayant aimé les siens qui étaient dans le monde, mit le comble à son amour pour eux.
1ולפני חג הפסח כשידע ישוע כי באה שעתו לעבר מן העולם הזה אל אביו כאשר אהב את בחיריו אשר בעולם כן אהבם עד הקץ׃
2And during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's [son], to betray him,
2Pendant le souper, lorsque le diable avait déjà inspiré au coeur de Judas Iscariot, fils de Simon, le dessein de le livrer,
2ויהי אחרי החל הסעודה והשטן נתן בלב יהודה בן שמעון איש קריות למסרו׃
3[Jesus], knowing that the Father had given all the things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God,
3Jésus, qui savait que le Père avait remis toutes choses entre ses mains, qu'il était venu de Dieu, et qu'il s'en allait à Dieu,
3וידע ישוע כי נתן אביו את הכל בידו וכי מאלהים בא ואל אלהים ישוב׃
4riseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself.
4se leva de table, ôta ses vêtements, et prit un linge, dont il se ceignit.
4ויקם מעל השלחן ויפשט את בגדיו ויקח מטפחת ויחגרה׃
5Then he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.
5Ensuite il versa de l'eau dans un bassin, et il se mit à laver les pieds des disciples, et à les essuyer avec le linge dont il était ceint.
5ואחר יצק מים בכיור ויחל לרחץ את רגלי תלמידיו ולנגב במטפחת אשר הוא חגור בה׃
6So he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
6Il vint donc à Simon Pierre; et Pierre lui dit: Toi, Seigneur, tu me laves les pieds!
6ויקרב אל שמעון פטרוס והוא אמר אליו אדני האתה תרחץ את רגלי׃
7Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter.
7Jésus lui répondit: Ce que je fais, tu ne le comprends pas maintenant, mais tu le comprendras bientôt.
7ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו את אשר אני עשה אינך ידע כעת ואחרי כן תדע׃
8Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
8Pierre lui dit: Non, jamais tu ne me laveras les pieds. Jésus lui répondit: Si je ne te lave, tu n'auras point de part avec moi.
8ויאמר אליו פטרוס לעולם לא תרחץ את רגלי ויען ישוע אם לא ארחץ אתך אין לך חלק עמי׃
9Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.
9Simon Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, non seulement les pieds, mais encore les mains et la tête.
9ויאמר אליו שמעון פטרוס אדני לא לבד את רגלי כי אם גם את ידי ואת ראשי׃
10Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
10Jésus lui dit: Celui qui est lavé n'a besoin que de se laver les pieds pour être entièrement pur; et vous êtes purs, mais non pas tous.
10ויאמר אליו ישוע המרחץ אין לו לרחץ עוד כי אם את הרגלים כי כלו טהור הוא ואתם טהורים אך לא כלכם׃
11For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
11Car il connaissait celui qui le livrait; c'est pourquoi il dit: Vous n'êtes pas tous purs.
11כי ידע מי ימסרהו על כן אמר לא כלכם טהורים׃
12So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
12Après qu'il leur eut lavé les pieds, et qu'il eut pris ses vêtements, il se remit à table, et leur dit: Comprenez-vous ce que je vous ai fait?
12ויהי אחרי אשר רחץ את רגלים וילבש את בגדיו וישב להסב ויאמר אליהם הידעתם מה הדבר אשר עשיתי לכם׃
13Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.
13Vous m'appelez Maître et Seigneur; et vous dites bien, car je le suis.
13אתם קראים לי רב ואדון והיטבתם אשר דברתם כי אני הוא׃
14If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
14Si donc je vous ai lavé les pieds, moi, le Seigneur et le Maître, vous devez aussi vous laver les pieds les uns aux autres;
14לכן אם אני המורה והאדון רחצתי את רגליכם גם אתם חיבים לרחץ איש את רגלי אחיו׃
15For I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.
15car je vous ai donné un exemple, afin que vous fassiez comme je vous ai fait.
15כי מופת נתתי לכם למען תעשו גם אתם כאשר עשיתי לכם׃
16Verily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him.
16En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, le serviteur n'est pas plus grand que son seigneur, ni l'apôtre plus grand que celui qui l'a envoyé.
16אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי העבד איננו גדול מאדניו והשלוח איננו גדול משלחו׃
17If ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.
17Si vous savez ces choses, vous êtes heureux, pourvu que vous les pratiquiez.
17אם ידעתם זאת אשריכם אם כן תעשו׃
18I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me.
18Ce n'est pas de vous tous que je parle; je connais ceux que j'ai choisis. Mais il faut que l'Ecriture s'accomplisse: Celui qui mange avec moi le pain A levé son talon contre moi.
18לא על כלכם דברתי יודע אני את אשר בחרתי בהם אך למען ימלא הכתוב אוכל לחמי הגדיל עלי עקב׃
19From henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he].
19Dès à présent je vous le dis, avant que la chose arrive, afin que, lorsqu'elle arrivera, vous croyiez à ce que je suis.
19מעתה אני אמר לכם בטרם היותה למען בבואה תאמינו כי אני הוא׃
20Verily, verily, I say unto you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
20En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, celui qui reçoit celui que j'aurai envoyé me reçoit, et celui qui me reçoit, reçoit celui qui m'a envoyé.
20אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי כל המקבל את אשר אשלחהו אתי הוא מקבל והמקבל אתי הוא מקבל את שלחי׃
21When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
21Ayant ainsi parlé, Jésus fut troublé en son esprit, et il dit expressément: En vérité, en vérité, je vous le dis, l'un de vous me livrera.
21ויהי ככלות ישוע לדבר הדברים האלה ויבהל ברוחו ויעד ויאמר אמן אמן אני אמר לכם כי אחד מכם ימסרני׃
22The disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
22Les disciples se regardaient les uns les autres, ne sachant de qui il parlait.
22ויתראו תלמידיו ויתמהו איש אל רעהו לדעת על מי דבר׃
23There was at the table reclining in Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
23Un des disciples, celui que Jésus aimait, était couché sur le sein de Jésus.
23ואחד מתלמידיו מסב על חיק ישוע אשר ישוע אהבו׃
24Simon Peter therefore beckoneth to him, and saith unto him, Tell [us] who it is of whom he speaketh.
24Simon Pierre lui fit signe de demander qui était celui dont parlait Jésus.
24וירמז לו שמעון פטרוס לדרש מי הוא זה אשר דבר עליו׃
25He leaning back, as he was, on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
25Et ce disciple, s'étant penché sur la poitrine de Jésus, lui dit: Seigneur, qui est-ce?
25ויפל על לב ישוע ויאמר אליו אדני מי הוא׃
26Jesus therefore answereth, He it is, for whom I shall dip the sop, and give it him. So when he had dipped the sop, he taketh and giveth it to Judas, [the son] of Simon Iscariot.
26Jésus répondit: C'est celui à qui je donnerai le morceau trempé. Et, ayant trempé le morceau, il le donna à Judas, fils de Simon, l'Iscariot.
26ויען ישוע הנה זה הוא אשר אטבל פתי לתתו לו ויטבל את פתו ויתן אל יהודה בן שמעון איש קריות׃
27And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, What thou doest, do quickly.
27Dès que le morceau fut donné, Satan entra dans Judas. Jésus lui dit: Ce que tu fais, fais-le promptement.
27ואחרי בלעו בא השטן אל קרבו ויאמר אליו ישוע את אשר תעשה עשה מהרה׃
28Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
28Mais aucun de ceux qui étaient à table ne comprit pourquoi il lui disait cela;
28ומן המסבים לא ידע איש על מה דבר אליו כזאת׃
29For some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
29car quelques-uns pensaient que, comme Judas avait la bourse, Jésus voulait lui dire: Achète ce dont nous avons besoin pour la fête, ou qu'il lui commandait de donner quelque chose aux pauvres.
29כי יש אשר חשבו כי אמר אליו ישוע קנה לנו צרכי החג או לתת לאביונים יען אשר כיס הכסף תחת יד יהודה׃
30He then having received the sop went out straightway: and it was night.
30Judas, ayant pris le morceau, se hâta de sortir. Il était nuit.
30והוא בקחתו את פת הלחם מהר לצאת החוצה ויהי לילה׃
31When therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him;
31Lorsque Judas fut sorti, Jésus dit: Maintenant, le Fils de l'homme a été glorifié, et Dieu a été glorifié en lui.
31הוא יצא וישוע אמר עתה נתפאר בן האדם והאלהים נתפאר בו׃
32and God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify him.
32Si Dieu a été glorifié en lui, Dieu aussi le glorifiera en lui-même, et il le glorifiera bientôt.
32אם האלהים נתפאר בו גם האלהים הוא יפארהו בעצמו ובמהרה יפארהו׃
33Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you.
33Mes petits enfants, je suis pour peu de temps encore avec vous. Vous me chercherez; et, comme j'ai dit aux Juifs: Vous ne pouvez venir où je vais, je vous le dis aussi maintenant.
33בני עוד מעט מזער אהיה עמכם אתם תבקשוני וכאשר אמרתי אל היהודים כי אל אשר אני הולך לא תוכלו לבוא שמה כן אליכם אמר אני עתה׃
34A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
34Je vous donne un commandement nouveau: Aimez-vous les uns les autres; comme je vous ai aimés, vous aussi, aimez-vous les uns les autres.
34מצוה חדשה אני נתן לכם כי תאהבו איש את אחיו כאשר אהבתי אתכם כן גם אתם איש את אחיו תאהבון׃
35By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
35A ceci tous connaîtront que vous êtes mes disciples, si vous avez de l'amour les uns pour les autres.
35בזאת ידעו כלם כי תלמידי אתם בהיות אהבה ביניכם׃
36Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered, Whither I go, thou canst not follow now; but thou shalt follow afterwards.
36Simon Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, où vas-tu? Jésus répondit: Tu ne peux pas maintenant me suivre où je vais, mais tu me suivras plus tard.
36ויאמר אליו פטרוס אדני אנה תלך ויען אתו ישוע אל אשר אני הולך שמה לא תוכל עתה ללכת אחרי אך אחרי כן תלך אחרי׃
37Peter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay down my life for thee.
37Seigneur, lui dit Pierre, pourquoi ne puis-je pas te suivre maintenant? Je donnerai ma vie pour toi.
37ויאמר אליו פטרוס מדוע לא אוכל עתה ללכת אחריך הן נפשי בעד נפשך אתן׃
38Jesus answereth, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
38Jésus répondit: Tu donneras ta vie pour moi! En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, le coq ne chantera pas que tu ne m'aies renié trois fois.
38ויען אתו ישוע הכי תתן נפשך בעד נפשי אמן אמן אני אמר לך בטרם יקרא התרנגל תכחש בי שלש פעמים׃
