¹And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard thereof, that he sent to Jobab king of Madon, and to the king of Shimron, and to the king of Achshaph,

¹Jabin, roi de Hatsor, ayant appris ces choses, envoya des messagers à Jobab, roi de Madon, au roi de Schimron, au roi d'Acschaph,

¹ויהי כשמע יבין מלך חצור וישלח אל יובב מלך מדון ואל מלך שמרון ואל מלך אכשף׃

²and to the kings that were on the north, in the hill-country, and in the Arabah south of Chinneroth, and in the lowland, and in the heights of Dor on the west,

²aux rois qui étaient au nord dans la montagne, dans la plaine au midi de Kinnéreth, dans la vallée, et sur les hauteurs de Dor à l'occident,

²ואל המלכים אשר מצפון בהר ובערבה נגב כנרות ובשפלה ובנפות דור מים׃

³to the Canaanite on the east and on the west, and the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Jebusite in the hill-country, and the Hivite under Hermon in the land of Mizpah.

³aux Cananéens de l'orient et de l'occident, aux Amoréens, aux Héthiens, aux Phéréziens, aux Jébusiens dans la montagne, et aux Héviens au pied de l'Hermon dans le pays de Mitspa.

³הכנעני ממזרח ומים והאמרי והחתי והפרזי והיבוסי בהר והחוי תחת חרמון בארץ המצפה׃

⁴And they went out, they and all their hosts with them, much people, even as the sand that is upon the sea-shore in multitude, with horses and chariots very many.

⁴Ils sortirent, eux et toutes leurs armées avec eux, formant un peuple innombrable comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer, et ayant des chevaux et des chars en très grande quantité.

⁴ויצאו הם וכל מחניהם עמם עם רב כחול אשר על שפת הים לרב וסוס ורכב רב מאד׃

⁵And all these kings met together; and they came and encamped together at the waters of Merom, to fight with Israel.

⁵Tous ces rois fixèrent un lieu de réunion, et vinrent camper ensemble près des eaux de Mérom, pour combattre contre Israël.

⁵ויועדו כל המלכים האלה ויבאו ויחנו יחדו אל מי מרום להלחם עם ישראל׃

⁶And Jehovah said unto Joshua, Be not afraid because of them; for to-morrow at this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hock their horses, and burn their chariots with fire.

⁶L'Eternel dit à Josué: Ne les crains point, car demain, à ce moment-ci, je les livrerai tous frappés devant Israël. Tu couperas les jarrets à leurs chevaux, et tu brûleras au feu leurs chars.

⁶ויאמר יהוה אל יהושע אל תירא מפניהם כי מחר כעת הזאת אנכי נתן את כלם חללים לפני ישראל את סוסיהם תעקר ואת מרכבתיהם תשרף באש׃

⁷So Joshua came, and all the people of war with him, against them by the waters of Merom suddenly, and fell upon them.

⁷Josué, avec tous ses gens de guerre, arriva subitement sur eux près des eaux de Mérom, et ils se précipitèrent au milieu d'eux.

⁷ויבא יהושע וכל עם המלחמה עמו עליהם על מי מרום פתאם ויפלו בהם׃

⁸And Jehovah delivered them into the hand of Israel, and they smote them, and chased them unto great Sidon, and unto Misrephoth-maim, and unto the valley of Mizpeh eastward; and they smote them, until they left them none remaining.

⁸L'Eternel les livra entre les mains d'Israël; ils les battirent et les poursuivirent jusqu'à Sidon la grande, jusqu'à Misrephoth-Maïm, et jusqu'à la vallée de Mitspa vers l'orient; ils les battirent, sans en laisser échapper aucun.

⁸ויתנם יהוה ביד ישראל ויכום וירדפום עד צידון רבה ועד משרפות מים ועד בקעת מצפה מזרחה ויכם עד בלתי השאיר להם שריד׃

⁹And Joshua did unto them as Jehovah bade him: he hocked their horses, and burnt their chariots with fire.

⁹Josué les traita comme l'Eternel lui avait dit; il coupa les jarrets à leurs chevaux, et il brûla leurs chars au feu.

⁹ויעש להם יהושע כאשר אמר לו יהוה את סוסיהם עקר ואת מרכבתיהם שרף באש׃

¹⁰And Joshua turned back at that time, and took Hazor, and smote the king thereof with the sword: for Hazor beforetime was the head of all those kingdoms.

¹⁰A son retour, et dans le même temps, Josué prit Hatsor, et frappa son roi avec l'épée: Hatsor était autrefois la principale ville de tous ces royaumes.

¹⁰וישב יהושע בעת ההיא וילכד את חצור ואת מלכה הכה בחרב כי חצור לפנים היא ראש כל הממלכות האלה׃

¹¹And they smote all the souls that were therein with the edge of the sword, utterly destroying them; there was none left that breathed: and he burnt Hazor with fire.

¹¹On frappa du tranchant de l'épée et l'on dévoua par interdit tous ceux qui s'y trouvaient, il ne resta rien de ce qui respirait, et l'on mit le feu à Hatsor.

¹¹ויכו את כל הנפש אשר בה לפי חרב החרם לא נותר כל נשמה ואת חצור שרף באש׃

¹²And all the cities of those kings, and all the kings of them, did Joshua take, and he smote them with the edge of the sword, and utterly destroyed them; as Moses the servant of Jehovah commanded.

¹²Josué prit aussi toutes les villes de ces rois et tous leurs rois, et il les frappa du tranchant de l'épée, et il les dévoua par interdit, comme l'avait ordonné Moïse, serviteur de l'Eternel.

¹²ואת כל ערי המלכים האלה ואת כל מלכיהם לכד יהושע ויכם לפי חרב החרים אותם כאשר צוה משה עבד יהוה׃

¹³But as for the cities that stood on their mounds, Israel burned none of them, save Hazor only; that did Joshua burn.

¹³Mais Israël ne brûla aucune des villes situées sur des collines, à l'exception seulement de Hatsor, qui fut brûlée par Josué.

¹³רק כל הערים העמדות על תלם לא שרפם ישראל זולתי את חצור לבדה שרף יהושע׃

¹⁴And all the spoil of these cities, and the cattle, the children of Israel took for a prey unto themselves; but every man they smote with the edge of the sword, until they had destroyed them, neither left they any that breathed.

¹⁴Les enfants d'Israël gardèrent pour eux tout le butin de ces villes et le bétail; mais ils frappèrent du tranchant de l'épée tous les hommes, jusqu'à ce qu'ils les eussent détruits, sans rien laisser de ce qui respirait.

¹⁴וכל שלל הערים האלה והבהמה בזזו להם בני ישראל רק את כל האדם הכו לפי חרב עד השמדם אותם לא השאירו כל נשמה׃

¹⁵As Jehovah commanded Moses his servant, so did Moses command Joshua: and so did Joshua; he left nothing undone of all that Jehovah commanded Moses.

¹⁵Josué exécuta les ordres de l'Eternel à Moïse, son serviteur, et de Moïse à Josué; il ne négligea rien de tout ce que l'Eternel avait ordonné à Moïse.

¹⁵כאשר צוה יהוה את משה עבדו כן צוה משה את יהושע וכן עשה יהושע לא הסיר דבר מכל אשר צוה יהוה את משה׃

¹⁶So Joshua took all that land, the hill-country, and all the South, and all the land of Goshen, and the lowland, and the Arabah, and the hill-country of Israel, and the lowland of the same;

¹⁶C'est ainsi que Josué s'empara de tout ce pays, de la montagne, de tout le midi, de tout le pays de Gosen, de la vallée, de la plaine, de la montagne d'Israël et de ses vallées,

¹⁶ויקח יהושע את כל הארץ הזאת ההר ואת כל הנגב ואת כל ארץ הגשן ואת השפלה ואת הערבה ואת הר ישראל ושפלתה׃

¹⁷from mount Halak, that goeth up to Seir, even unto Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon under mount Hermon: and all their kings he took, and smote them, and put them to death.

¹⁷depuis la montagne nue qui s'élève vers Séir jusqu'à Baal-Gad, dans la vallée du Liban, au pied de la montagne d'Hermon. Il prit tous leurs rois, les frappa et les fit mourir.

¹⁷מן ההר החלק העולה שעיר ועד בעל גד בבקעת הלבנון תחת הר חרמון ואת כל מלכיהם לכד ויכם וימיתם׃

¹⁸Joshua made war a long time with all those kings.

¹⁸La guerre que soutint Josué contre tous ces rois fut de longue durée.

¹⁸ימים רבים עשה יהושע את כל המלכים האלה מלחמה׃

¹⁹There was not a city that made peace with the children of Israel, save the Hivites the inhabitants of Gibeon: they took all in battle.

¹⁹Il n'y eut aucune ville qui fît la paix avec les enfants d'Israël, excepté Gabaon, habitée par les Héviens; ils les prirent toutes en combattant.

¹⁹לא היתה עיר אשר השלימה אל בני ישראל בלתי החוי ישבי גבעון את הכל לקחו במלחמה׃

²⁰For it was of Jehovah to harden their hearts, to come against Israel in battle, that he might utterly destroy them, that they might have no favor, but that he might destroy them, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

²⁰Car l'Eternel permit que ces peuples s'obstinassent à faire la guerre contre Israël, afin qu'Israël les dévouât par interdit, sans qu'il y eût pour eux de miséricorde, et qu'il les détruisît, comme l'Eternel l'avait ordonné à Moïse.

²⁰כי מאת יהוה היתה לחזק את לבם לקראת המלחמה את ישראל למען החרימם לבלתי היות להם תחנה כי למען השמידם כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃

²¹And Joshua came at that time, and cut off the Anakim from the hill-country, from Hebron, from Debir, from Anab, and from all the hill-country of Judah, and from all the hill-country of Israel: Joshua utterly destroyed them with their cities.

²¹Dans le même temps, Josué se mit en marche, et il extermina les Anakim de la montagne d'Hébron, de Debir, d'Anab, de toute la montagne de Juda et de toute la montagne d'Israël; Josué les dévoua par interdit, avec leurs villes.

²¹ויבא יהושע בעת ההיא ויכרת את הענקים מן ההר מן חברון מן דבר מן ענב ומכל הר יהודה ומכל הר ישראל עם עריהם החרימם יהושע׃

²²There was none of the Anakim left in the land of the children of Israel: only in Gaza, in Gath, and in Ashdod, did some remain.

²²Il ne resta point d'Anakim dans le pays des enfants d'Israël; il n'en resta qu'à Gaza, à Gath et à Asdod.

²²לא נותר ענקים בארץ בני ישראל רק בעזה בגת ובאשדוד נשארו׃

²³So Joshua took the whole land, according to all that Jehovah spake unto Moses; and Joshua gave it for an inheritance unto Israel according to their divisions by their tribes. And the land had rest from war.

²³Josué s'empara donc de tout le pays, selon tout ce que l'Eternel avait dit à Moïse. Et Josué le donna en héritage à Israël, à chacun sa portion, d'après leurs tribus. Puis, le pays fut en repos et sans guerre.

²³ויקח יהושע את כל הארץ ככל אשר דבר יהוה אל משה ויתנה יהושע לנחלה לישראל כמחלקתם לשבטיהם והארץ שקטה ממלחמה׃
