¹And [this] was the lot for the tribe of Manasseh; for he was the first-born of Joseph. As for Machir the first-born of Manasseh, the father of Gilead, because he was a man of war, therefore he had Gilead and Bashan.

¹Une part échut aussi par le sort à la tribu de Manassé, car il était le premier-né de Joseph. Makir, premier-né de Manassé et père de Galaad, avait eu Galaad et Basan, parce qu'il était un homme de guerre.

¹ויהי הגורל למטה מנשה כי הוא בכור יוסף למכיר בכור מנשה אבי הגלעד כי הוא היה איש מלחמה ויהי לו הגלעד והבשן׃

²So [the lot] was for the rest of the children of Manasseh according to their families: for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph according to their families.

²On donna par le sort une part aux autres fils de Manassé, selon leurs familles, aux fils d'Abiézer, aux fils de Hélek, aux fils d'Asriel, aux fils de Sichem, aux fils de Hépher, aux fils de Schemida: ce sont là les enfants mâles de Manassé, fils de Joseph, selon leurs familles.

²ויהי לבני מנשה הנותרים למשפחתם לבני אביעזר ולבני חלק ולבני אשריאל ולבני שכם ולבני חפר ולבני שמידע אלה בני מנשה בן יוסף הזכרים למשפחתם׃

³But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters: Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.

³Tselophchad, fils de Hépher, fils de Galaad, fils de Makir, fils de Manassé, n'eut point de fils, mais il eut des filles dont voici les noms: Machla, Noa, Hogla, Milca et Thirtsa.

³ולצלפחד בן חפר בן גלעד בן מכיר בן מנשה לא היו לו בנים כי אם בנות ואלה שמות בנתיו מחלה ונעה חגלה מלכה ותרצה׃

⁴And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, Jehovah commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren: therefore according to the commandment of Jehovah he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.

⁴Elles se présentèrent devant le sacrificateur Eléazar, devant Josué, fils de Nun, et devant les princes, en disant: L'Eternel a commandé à Moïse de nous donner un héritage parmi nos frères. Et on leur donna, selon l'ordre de l'Eternel, un héritage parmi les frères de leur père.

⁴ותקרבנה לפני אלעזר הכהן ולפני יהושע בן נון ולפני הנשיאים לאמר יהוה צוה את משה לתת לנו נחלה בתוך אחינו ויתן להם אל פי יהוה נחלה בתוך אחי אביהן׃

⁵And there fell ten parts to Manasseh, besides the land of Gilead and Bashan, which is beyond the Jordan;

⁵Il échut dix portions à Manassé, outre le pays de Galaad et de Basan, qui est de l'autre côté du Jourdain.

⁵ויפלו חבלי מנשה עשרה לבד מארץ הגלעד והבשן אשר מעבר לירדן׃

⁶because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons. And the land of Gilead belonged unto the rest of the sons of Manasseh.

⁶Car les filles de Manassé eurent un héritage parmi ses fils, et le pays de Galaad fut pour les autres fils de Manassé.

⁶כי בנות מנשה נחלו נחלה בתוך בניו וארץ הגלעד היתה לבני מנשה הנותרים׃

⁷And the border of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethath, which is before Shechem; and the border went along to the right hand, unto the inhabitants of En-tappuah.

⁷La limite de Manassé s'étendait d'Aser à Micmethath, qui est près de Sichem, et allait à Jamin vers les habitants d'En-Tappuach.

⁷ויהי גבול מנשה מאשר המכמתת אשר על פני שכם והלך הגבול אל הימין אל ישבי עין תפוח׃

⁸The land of Tappuah belonged to Manasseh; but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim.

⁸Le pays de Tappuach était aux fils de Manassé, mais Tappuach sur la frontière de Manassé était aux fils d'Ephraïm.

⁸למנשה היתה ארץ תפוח ותפוח אל גבול מנשה לבני אפרים׃

⁹And the border went down unto the brook of Kanah, southward of the brook: these cities belonged to Ephraim among the cities of Manasseh: and the border of Manasseh was on the north side of the brook, and the goings out thereof were at the sea:

⁹La limite descendait au torrent de Kana, au midi du torrent. Ces villes étaient à Ephraïm, au milieu des villes de Manassé. La limite de Manassé au nord du torrent aboutissait à la mer.

⁹וירד הגבול נחל קנה נגבה לנחל ערים האלה לאפרים בתוך ערי מנשה וגבול מנשה מצפון לנחל ויהי תצאתיו הימה׃

¹⁰southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea was his border; and they reached to Asher on the north, and to Issachar on the east.

¹⁰Le territoire du midi était à Ephraïm, celui du nord à Manassé, et la mer leur servait de limite; ils touchaient à Aser vers le nord, et à Issacar vers l'orient.

¹⁰נגבה לאפרים וצפונה למנשה ויהי הים גבולו ובאשר יפגעון מצפון וביששכר ממזרח׃

¹¹And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Beth-shean and its towns, and Ibleam and its towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of En-dor and its towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and its towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and its towns, even the three heights.

¹¹Manassé possédait dans Issacar et dans Aser: Beth-Schean et les villes de son ressort, Jibleam et les villes de son ressort, les habitants de Dor et les villes de son ressort, les habitants d'En-Dor et les villes de son ressort, les habitants de Thaanac et les villes de son ressort, et les habitants de Meguiddo et les villes de son ressort, trois contrées.

¹¹ויהי למנשה ביששכר ובאשר בית שאן ובנותיה ויבלעם ובנותיה ואת ישבי דאר ובנותיה וישבי עין דר ובנתיה וישבי תענך ובנתיה וישבי מגדו ובנותיה שלשת הנפת׃

¹²Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out [the inhabitants of] those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.

¹²Les fils de Manassé ne purent pas prendre possession de ces villes, et les Cananéens voulurent rester dans ce pays.

¹²ולא יכלו בני מנשה להוריש את הערים האלה ויואל הכנעני לשבת בארץ הזאת׃

¹³And it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxed strong, that they put the Canaanites to taskwork, and did not utterly drive them out.

¹³Lorsque les enfants d'Israël furent assez forts, ils assujettirent les Cananéens à un tribut, mais ils ne les chassèrent point.

¹³ויהי כי חזקו בני ישראל ויתנו את הכנעני למס והורש לא הורישו׃

¹⁴And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one part for an inheritance, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as hitherto Jehovah hath blessed me?

¹⁴Les fils de Joseph parlèrent à Josué, et dirent: Pourquoi nous as-tu donné en héritage un seul lot, une seule part, tandis que nous formons un peuple nombreux et que l'Eternel nous a bénis jusqu'à présent?

¹⁴וידברו בני יוסף את יהושע לאמר מדוע נתתה לי נחלה גורל אחד וחבל אחד ואני עם רב עד אשר עד כה ברכני יהוה׃

¹⁵And Joshua said unto them, If thou be a great people, get thee up to the forest, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the Rephaim; since the hill-country of Ephraim is too narrow for thee.

¹⁵Josué leur dit: Si vous êtes un peuple nombreux, montez à la forêt, et vous l'abattrez pour vous y faire de la place dans le pays des Phéréziens et des Rephaïm, puisque la montagne d'Ephraïm est trop étroite pour vous.

¹⁵ויאמר אליהם יהושע אם עם רב אתה עלה לך היערה ובראת לך שם בארץ הפרזי והרפאים כי אץ לך הר אפרים׃

¹⁶And the children of Joseph said, The hill-country is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are in Beth-shean and its towns, and they who are in the valley of Jezreel.

¹⁶Les fils de Joseph dirent: La montagne ne nous suffira pas, et il y a des chars de fer chez tous les Cananéens qui habitent la vallée, chez ceux qui sont à Beth-Schean et dans les villes de son ressort, et chez ceux qui sont dans la vallée de Jizreel.

¹⁶ויאמרו בני יוסף לא ימצא לנו ההר ורכב ברזל בכל הכנעני הישב בארץ העמק לאשר בבית שאן ובנותיה ולאשר בעמק יזרעאל׃

¹⁷And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power; thou shalt not have one lot only:

¹⁷Josué dit à la maison de Joseph, à Ephraïm et à Manassé: Vous êtes un peuple nombreux, et votre force est grande, vous n'aurez pas un simple lot.

¹⁷ויאמר יהושע אל בית יוסף לאפרים ולמנשה לאמר עם רב אתה וכח גדול לך לא יהיה לך גורל אחד׃

¹⁸but the hill-country shall be thine; for though it is a forest, thou shalt cut it down, and the goings out thereof shall be thine; for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have chariots of iron, and though they are strong.

¹⁸Mais vous aurez la montagne, car c'est une forêt que vous abattrez et dont les issues seront à vous, et vous chasserez les Cananéens, malgré leurs chars de fer et malgré leur force.

¹⁸כי הר יהיה לך כי יער הוא ובראתו והיה לך תצאתיו כי תוריש את הכנעני כי רכב ברזל לו כי חזק הוא׃
