¹Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in.

¹Jéricho était fermée et barricadée devant les enfants d'Israël. Personne ne sortait, et personne n'entrait.

¹ויריחו סגרת ומסגרת מפני בני ישראל אין יוצא ואין בא׃

²And Jehovah said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thy hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valor.

²L'Eternel dit à Josué: Vois, je livre entre tes mains Jéricho et son roi, ses vaillants soldats.

²ויאמר יהוה אל יהושע ראה נתתי בידך את יריחו ואת מלכה גבורי החיל׃

³And ye shall compass the city, all the men of war, going about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days.

³Faites le tour de la ville, vous tous les hommes de guerre, faites une fois le tour de la ville. Tu feras ainsi pendant six jours.

³וסבתם את העיר כל אנשי המלחמה הקיף את העיר פעם אחת כה תעשה ששת ימים׃

⁴And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow the trumpets.

⁴Sept sacrificateurs porteront devant l'arche sept trompettes retentissantes; le septième jour, vous ferez sept fois le tour de la ville; et les sacrificateurs sonneront des trompettes.

⁴ושבעה כהנים ישאו שבעה שופרות היובלים לפני הארון וביום השביעי תסבו את העיר שבע פעמים והכהנים יתקעו בשופרות׃

⁵And it shall be, that, when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall go up every man straight before him.

⁵Quand ils sonneront de la corne retentissante, quand vous entendrez le son de la trompette, tout le peuple poussera de grands cris. Alors la muraille de la ville s'écroulera, et le peuple montera, chacun devant soi.

⁵והיה במשך בקרן היובל בשמעכם את קול השופר יריעו כל העם תרועה גדולה ונפלה חומת העיר תחתיה ועלו העם איש נגדו׃

⁶And Joshua the son of Nun called the priests, and said unto them, Take up the ark of the covenant, and let seven priests bear seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Jehovah.

⁶Josué, fils de Nun, appela les sacrificateurs, et leur dit: Portez l'arche de l'alliance, et que sept sacrificateurs portent sept trompettes retentissantes devant l'arche de l'Eternel.

⁶ויקרא יהושע בן נון אל הכהנים ויאמר אלהם שאו את ארון הברית ושבעה כהנים ישאו שבעה שופרות יובלים לפני ארון יהוה׃

⁷And they said unto the people, Pass on, and compass the city, and let the armed men pass on before the ark of Jehovah.

⁷Et il dit au peuple: Marchez, faites le tour de la ville, et que les hommes armés passent devant l'arche de l'Eternel.

⁷ויאמרו אל העם עברו וסבו את העיר והחלוץ יעבר לפני ארון יהוה׃

⁸And it was so, that, when Joshua had spoken unto the people, the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before Jehovah passed on, and blew the trumpets: and the ark of the covenant of Jehovah followed them.

⁸Lorsque Josué eut parlé au peuple, les sept sacrificateurs qui portaient devant l'Eternel les sept trompettes retentissantes se mirent en marche et sonnèrent des trompettes. L'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel allait derrière eux.

⁸ויהי כאמר יהושע אל העם ושבעה הכהנים נשאים שבעה שופרות היובלים לפני יהוה עברו ותקעו בשופרות וארון ברית יהוה הלך אחריהם׃

⁹And the armed men went before the priests that blew the trumpets, and the rearward went after the ark, [the priests] blowing the trumpets as they went.

⁹Les hommes armés marchaient devant les sacrificateurs qui sonnaient des trompettes, et l'arrière-garde suivait l'arche; pendant la marche, on sonnait des trompettes.

⁹והחלוץ הלך לפני הכהנים תקעו השופרות והמאסף הלך אחרי הארון הלוך ותקוע בשופרות׃

¹⁰And Joshua commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor let your voice be heard, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout.

¹⁰Josué avait donné cet ordre au peuple: Vous ne crierez point, vous ne ferez point entendre votre voix, et il ne sortira pas un mot de votre bouche jusqu'au jour où je vous dirai: Poussez des cris! Alors vous pousserez des cris.

¹⁰ואת העם צוה יהושע לאמר לא תריעו ולא תשמיעו את קולכם ולא יצא מפיכם דבר עד יום אמרי אליכם הריעו והריעתם׃

¹¹So he caused the ark of Jehovah to compass the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.

¹¹L'arche de l'Eternel fit le tour de la ville, elle fit une fois le tour; puis on rentra dans le camp, et l'on y passa la nuit.

¹¹ויסב ארון יהוה את העיר הקף פעם אחת ויבאו המחנה וילינו במחנה׃

¹²And Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of Jehovah.

¹²Josué se leva de bon matin, et les sacrificateurs portèrent l'arche de l'Eternel.

¹²וישכם יהושע בבקר וישאו הכהנים את ארון יהוה׃

¹³And the seven priests bearing the seven trumpets of rams' horns before the ark of Jehovah went on continually, and blew the trumpets: and the armed men went before them; and the rearward came after the ark of Jehovah, [the priests] blowing the trumpets as they went.

¹³Les sept sacrificateurs qui portaient les sept trompettes retentissantes devant l'arche de l'Eternel se mirent en marche et sonnèrent des trompettes. Les hommes armés marchaient devant eux, et l'arrière-garde suivait l'arche de l'Eternel; pendant la marche, on sonnait des trompettes.

¹³ושבעה הכהנים נשאים שבעה שופרות היבלים לפני ארון יהוה הלכים הלוך ותקעו בשופרות והחלוץ הלך לפניהם והמאסף הלך אחרי ארון יהוה הולך ותקוע בשופרות׃

¹⁴And the second day they compassed the city once, and returned into the camp: so they did six days.

¹⁴Ils firent une fois le tour de la ville, le second jour; puis ils retournèrent dans le camp. Ils firent de même pendant six jours.

¹⁴ויסבו את העיר ביום השני פעם אחת וישבו המחנה כה עשו ששת ימים׃

¹⁵And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early at the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on the day they compassed the city seven times.

¹⁵Le septième jour, ils se levèrent de bon matin, dès l'aurore, et ils firent de la même manière sept fois le tour de la ville; ce fut le seul jour où ils firent sept fois le tour de la ville.

¹⁵ויהי ביום השביעי וישכמו כעלות השחר ויסבו את העיר כמשפט הזה שבע פעמים רק ביום ההוא סבבו את העיר שבע פעמים׃

¹⁶And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for Jehovah hath given you the city.

¹⁶A la septième fois, comme les sacrificateurs sonnaient des trompettes, Josué dit au peuple: Poussez des cris, car l'Eternel vous a livré la ville!

¹⁶ויהי בפעם השביעית תקעו הכהנים בשופרות ויאמר יהושע אל העם הריעו כי נתן יהוה לכם את העיר׃

¹⁷And the city shall be devoted, even it and all that is therein, to Jehovah: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent.

¹⁷La ville sera dévouée à l'Eternel par interdit, elle et tout ce qui s'y trouve; mais on laissera la vie à Rahab la prostituée et à tous ceux qui seront avec elle dans la maison, parce qu'elle a caché les messagers que nous avions envoyés.

¹⁷והיתה העיר חרם היא וכל אשר בה ליהוה רק רחב הזונה תחיה היא וכל אשר אתה בבית כי החבאתה את המלאכים אשר שלחנו׃

¹⁸But as for you, only keep yourselves from the devoted thing, lest when ye have devoted it, ye take of the devoted thing; so would ye make the camp of Israel accursed, and trouble it.

¹⁸Gardez-vous seulement de ce qui sera dévoué par interdit; car si vous preniez de ce que vous aurez dévoué par interdit, vous mettriez le camp d'Israël en interdit et vous y jetteriez le trouble.

¹⁸ורק אתם שמרו מן החרם פן תחרימו ולקחתם מן החרם ושמתם את מחנה ישראל לחרם ועכרתם אותו׃

¹⁹But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are holy unto Jehovah: they shall come into the treasury of Jehovah.

¹⁹Tout l'argent et tout l'or, tous les objets d'airain et de fer, seront consacrés à l'Eternel, et entreront dans le trésor de l'Eternel.

¹⁹וכל כסף וזהב וכלי נחשת וברזל קדש הוא ליהוה אוצר יהוה יבוא׃

²⁰So the people shouted, and [the priests] blew the trumpets; and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, that the people shouted with a great shout, and the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city.

²⁰Le peuple poussa des cris, et les sacrificateurs sonnèrent des trompettes. Lorsque le peuple entendit le son de la trompette, il poussa de grands cris, et la muraille s'écroula; le peuple monta dans la ville, chacun devant soi. Ils s'emparèrent de la ville,

²⁰וירע העם ויתקעו בשפרות ויהי כשמע העם את קול השופר ויריעו העם תרועה גדולה ותפל החומה תחתיה ויעל העם העירה איש נגדו וילכדו את העיר׃

²¹And they utterly destroyed all that was in the city, both man and woman, both young and old, and ox, and sheep, and ass, with the edge of the sword.

²¹et ils dévouèrent par interdit, au fil de l'épée, tout ce qui était dans la ville, hommes et femmes, enfants et vieillards, jusqu'aux boeufs, aux brebis et aux ânes.

²¹ויחרימו את כל אשר בעיר מאיש ועד אשה מנער ועד זקן ועד שור ושה וחמור לפי חרב׃

²²And Joshua said unto the two men that had spied out the land, Go into the harlot's house, and bring out thence the woman, and all that she hath, as ye sware unto her.

²²Josué dit aux deux hommes qui avaient exploré le pays: Entrez dans la maison de la femme prostituée, et faites-en sortir cette femme et tous ceux qui lui appartiennent, comme vous le lui avez juré.

²²ולשנים האנשים המרגלים את הארץ אמר יהושע באו בית האשה הזונה והוציאו משם את האשה ואת כל אשר לה כאשר נשבעתם לה׃

²³And the young men the spies went in, and brought out Rahab, and her father, and her mother, and her brethren, and all that she had; all her kindred also they brought out; and they set them without the camp of Israel.

²³Les jeunes gens, les espions, entrèrent et firent sortir Rahab, son père, sa mère, ses frères, et tous ceux qui lui appartenaient; ils firent sortir tous les gens de sa famille, et ils les déposèrent hors du camp d'Israël.

²³ויבאו הנערים המרגלים ויציאו את רחב ואת אביה ואת אמה ואת אחיה ואת כל אשר לה ואת כל משפחותיה הוציאו ויניחום מחוץ למחנה ישראל׃

²⁴And they burnt the city with fire, and all that was therein; only the silver, and the gold, and the vessels of brass and of iron, they put into the treasury of the house of Jehovah.

²⁴Ils brûlèrent la ville et tout ce qui s'y trouvait; seulement ils mirent dans le trésor de la maison de l'Eternel l'argent, l'or et tous les objets d'airain et de fer.

²⁴והעיר שרפו באש וכל אשר בה רק הכסף והזהב וכלי הנחשת והברזל נתנו אוצר בית יהוה׃

²⁵But Rahab the harlot, and her father's household, and all that she had, did Joshua save alive; and she dwelt in the midst of Israel unto this day, because she hid the messengers, whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho.

²⁵Josué laissa la vie à Rahab la prostituée, à la maison de son père, et à tous ceux qui lui appartenaient; elle a habité au milieu d'Israël jusqu'à ce jour, parce qu'elle avait caché les messagers que Josué avait envoyés pour explorer Jéricho.

²⁵ואת רחב הזונה ואת בית אביה ואת כל אשר לה החיה יהושע ותשב בקרב ישראל עד היום הזה כי החביאה את המלאכים אשר שלח יהושע לרגל את יריחו׃

²⁶And Joshua charged them with an oath at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before Jehovah, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: with the loss of his first-born shall he lay the foundation thereof, and with the loss of his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

²⁶Ce fut alors que Josué jura, en disant: Maudit soit devant l'Eternel l'homme qui se lèvera pour rebâtir cette ville de Jéricho! Il en jettera les fondements au prix de son premier-né, et il en posera les portes au prix de son plus jeune fils.

²⁶וישבע יהושע בעת ההיא לאמר ארור האיש לפני יהוה אשר יקום ובנה את העיר הזאת את יריחו בבכרו ייסדנה ובצעירו יציב דלתיה׃

²⁷So Jehovah was with Joshua; and his fame was in all the land.

²⁷L'Eternel fut avec Josué, dont la renommée se répandit dans tout le pays.

²⁷ויהי יהוה את יהושע ויהי שמעו בכל הארץ׃
