¹And after Abimelech there arose to save Israel Tola the son of Puah, the son of Dodo, a man of Issachar; and he dwelt in Shamir in the hill-country of Ephraim.

¹Après Abimélec, Thola, fils de Pua, fils de Dodo, homme d'Issacar, se leva pour délivrer Israël; il habitait à Schamir, dans la montagne d'Ephraïm.

¹ויקם אחרי אבימלך להושיע את ישראל תולע בן פואה בן דודו איש יששכר והוא ישב בשמיר בהר אפרים׃

²And he judged Israel twenty and three years, and died, and was buried in Shamir.

²Il fut juge en Israël pendant vingt-trois ans; puis il mourut, et fut enterré à Schamir.

²וישפט את ישראל עשרים ושלש שנה וימת ויקבר בשמיר׃

³And after him arose Jair, the Gileadite; and he judged Israel twenty and two years.

³Après lui, se leva Jaïr, le Galaadite, qui fut juge en Israël pendant vingt-deux ans.

³ויקם אחריו יאיר הגלעדי וישפט את ישראל עשרים ושתים שנה׃

⁴And he had thirty sons that rode on thirty ass colts, and they had thirty cities, which are called Havvoth-jair unto this day, which are in the land of Gilead.

⁴Il avait trente fils, qui montaient sur trente ânons, et qui possédaient trente villes, appelées encore aujourd'hui bourgs de Jaïr, et situées dans le pays de Galaad.

⁴ויהי לו שלשים בנים רכבים על שלשים עירים ושלשים עירים להם להם יקראו חות יאיר עד היום הזה אשר בארץ הגלעד׃

⁵And Jair died, and was buried in Kamon.

⁵Et Jaïr mourut, et fut enterré à Kamon.

⁵וימת יאיר ויקבר בקמון׃

⁶And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and served the Baalim, and the Ashtaroth, and the gods of Syria, and the gods of Sidon, and the gods of Moab, and the gods of the children of Ammon, and the gods of the Philistines; and they forsook Jehovah, and served him not.

⁶Les enfants d'Israël firent encore ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel; ils servirent les Baals et les Astartés, les dieux de Syrie, les dieux de Sidon, les dieux de Moab, les dieux des fils d'Ammon, et les dieux des Philistins, et ils abandonnèrent l'Eternel et ne le servirent plus.

⁶ויספו בני ישראל לעשות הרע בעיני יהוה ויעבדו את הבעלים ואת העשתרות ואת אלהי ארם ואת אלהי צידון ואת אלהי מואב ואת אלהי בני עמון ואת אלהי פלשתים ויעזבו את יהוה ולא עבדוהו׃

⁷And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he sold them into the hand of the Philistines, and into the hand of the children of Ammon.

⁷La colère de l'Eternel s'enflamma contre Israël, et il les vendit entre les mains des Philistins et entre les mains des fils d'Ammon.

⁷ויחר אף יהוה בישראל וימכרם ביד פלשתים וביד בני עמון׃

⁸And they vexed and oppressed the children of Israel that year: eighteen years [oppressed they] all the children of Israel that were beyond the Jordan in the land of the Amorites, which is in Gilead.

⁸Ils opprimèrent et écrasèrent les enfants d'Israël cette année-là, et pendant dix-huit ans tous les enfants d'Israël qui étaient de l'autre côté du Jourdain dans le pays des Amoréens en Galaad.

⁸וירעצו וירצצו את בני ישראל בשנה ההיא שמנה עשרה שנה את כל בני ישראל אשר בעבר הירדן בארץ האמרי אשר בגלעד׃

⁹And the children of Ammon passed over the Jordan to fight also against Judah, and against Benjamin, and against the house of Ephraim; so that Israel was sore distressed.

⁹Les fils d'Ammon passèrent le Jourdain pour combattre aussi contre Juda, contre Benjamin et contre la maison d'Ephraïm. Et Israël fut dans une grande détresse.

⁹ויעברו בני עמון את הירדן להלחם גם ביהודה ובבנימין ובבית אפרים ותצר לישראל מאד׃

¹⁰And the children of Israel cried unto Jehovah, saying, We have sinned against thee, even because we have forsaken our God, and have served the Baalim.

¹⁰Les enfants d'Israël crièrent à l'Eternel, en disant: Nous avons péché contre toi, car nous avons abandonné notre Dieu et nous avons servi les Baals.

¹⁰ויזעקו בני ישראל אל יהוה לאמר חטאנו לך וכי עזבנו את אלהינו ונעבד את הבעלים׃

¹¹And Jehovah said unto the children of Israel, [Did] not [I save you] from the Egyptians, and from the Amorites, from the children of Ammon, and from the Philistines?

¹¹L'Eternel dit aux enfants d'Israël: Ne vous ai-je pas délivrés des Egyptiens, des Amoréens, des fils d'Ammon, des Philistins?

¹¹ויאמר יהוה אל בני ישראל הלא ממצרים ומן האמרי ומן בני עמון ומן פלשתים׃

¹²The Sidonians also, and the Amalekites, and the Maonites, did oppress you; and ye cried unto me, and I saved you out of their hand.

¹²Et lorsque les Sidoniens, Amalek et Maon, vous opprimèrent, et que vous criâtes à moi, ne vous ai-je pas délivrés de leurs mains?

¹²וצידונים ועמלק ומעון לחצו אתכם ותצעקו אלי ואושיעה אתכם מידם׃

¹³Yet ye have forsaken me, and served other gods: wherefore I will save you no more.

¹³Mais vous, vous m'avez abandonné, et vous avez servi d'autres dieux. C'est pourquoi je ne vous délivrerai plus.

¹³ואתם עזבתם אותי ותעבדו אלהים אחרים לכן לא אוסיף להושיע אתכם׃

¹⁴Go and cry unto the gods which ye have chosen; let them save you in the time of your distress.

¹⁴Allez, invoquez les dieux que vous avez choisis; qu'ils vous délivrent au temps de votre détresse!

¹⁴לכו וזעקו אל האלהים אשר בחרתם בם המה יושיעו לכם בעת צרתכם׃

¹⁵And the children of Israel said unto Jehovah, We have sinned: do thou unto us whatsoever seemeth good unto thee; only deliver us, we pray thee, this day.

¹⁵Les enfants d'Israël dirent à l'Eternel: Nous avons péché; traite-nous comme il te plaira. Seulement, daigne nous délivrer aujourd'hui!

¹⁵ויאמרו בני ישראל אל יהוה חטאנו עשה אתה לנו ככל הטוב בעיניך אך הצילנו נא היום הזה׃

¹⁶And they put away the foreign gods from among them, and served Jehovah; and his soul was grieved for the misery of Israel.

¹⁶Et ils ôtèrent les dieux étrangers du milieu d'eux, et servirent l'Eternel, qui fut touché des maux d'Israël.

¹⁶ויסירו את אלהי הנכר מקרבם ויעבדו את יהוה ותקצר נפשו בעמל ישראל׃

¹⁷Then the children of Ammon were gathered together, and encamped in Gilead. And the children of Israel assembled themselves together, and encamped in Mizpah.

¹⁷Les fils d'Ammon se rassemblèrent et campèrent en Galaad, et les enfants d'Israël se rassemblèrent et campèrent à Mitspa.

¹⁷ויצעקו בני עמון ויחנו בגלעד ויאספו בני ישראל ויחנו במצפה׃

¹⁸And the people, the princes of Gilead, said one to another, What man is he that will begin to fight against the children of Ammon? he shall be head over all the inhabitants of Gilead.

¹⁸Le peuple, les chefs de Galaad se dirent l'un à l'autre: Quel est l'homme qui commencera l'attaque contre les fils d'Ammon? Il sera chef de tous les habitants de Galaad.

¹⁸ויאמרו העם שרי גלעד איש אל רעהו מי האיש אשר יחל להלחם בבני עמון יהיה לראש לכל ישבי גלעד׃
