1And the children of Israel again did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah; and Jehovah delivered them into the hand of the Philistines forty years.
1Les enfants d'Israël firent encore ce qui déplaît à l'Eternel; et l'Eternel les livra entre les mains des Philistins, pendant quarante ans.
1ויספו בני ישראל לעשות הרע בעיני יהוה ויתנם יהוה ביד פלשתים ארבעים שנה׃
2And there was a certain man of Zorah, of the family of the Danites, whose name was Manoah; and his wife was barren, and bare not.
2Il y avait un homme de Tsorea, de la famille des Danites, et qui s'appelait Manoach. Sa femme était stérile, et n'enfantait pas.
2ויהי איש אחד מצרעה ממשפחת הדני ושמו מנוח ואשתו עקרה ולא ילדה׃
3And the angel of Jehovah appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not; but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
3Un ange de l'Eternel apparut à la femme, et lui dit: Voici, tu es stérile, et tu n'as point d'enfants; tu deviendras enceinte, et tu enfanteras un fils.
3וירא מלאך יהוה אל האשה ויאמר אליה הנה נא את עקרה ולא ילדת והרית וילדת בן׃
4Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing:
4Maintenant prends bien garde, ne bois ni vin ni liqueur forte, et ne mange rien d'impur.
4ועתה השמרי נא ואל תשתי יין ושכר ואל תאכלי כל טמא׃
5for, lo, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and no razor shall come upon his head; for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb: and he shall begin to save Israel out of the hand of the Philistines.
5Car tu vas devenir enceinte et tu enfanteras un fils. Le rasoir ne passera point sur sa tête, parce que cet enfant sera consacré à Dieu dès le ventre de sa mère; et ce sera lui qui commencera à délivrer Israël de la main des Philistins.
5כי הנך הרה וילדת בן ומורה לא יעלה על ראשו כי נזיר אלהים יהיה הנער מן הבטן והוא יחל להושיע את ישראל מיד פלשתים׃
6Then the woman came and told her husband, saying, A man of God came unto me, and his countenance was like the countenance of the angel of God, very terrible; and I asked him not whence he was, neither told he me his name:
6La femme alla dire à son mari; Un homme de Dieu est venu vers moi, et il avait l'aspect d'un ange de Dieu, un aspect redoutable. Je ne lui ai pas demandé d'où il était, et il ne m'a pas fait connaître son nom.
6ותבא האשה ותאמר לאישה לאמר איש האלהים בא אלי ומראהו כמראה מלאך האלהים נורא מאד ולא שאלתיהו אי מזה הוא ואת שמו לא הגיד לי׃
7but he said unto me, Behold, thou shalt conceive, and bear a son; and now drink no wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing; for the child shall be a Nazirite unto God from the womb to the day of his death.
7Mais il m'a dit: Tu vas devenir enceinte, et tu enfanteras un fils; et maintenant ne bois ni vin ni liqueur forte, et ne mange rien d'impur, parce que cet enfant sera consacré à Dieu dès le ventre de sa mère jusqu'au jour de sa mort.
7ויאמר לי הנך הרה וילדת בן ועתה אל תשתי יין ושכר ואל תאכלי כל טמאה כי נזיר אלהים יהיה הנער מן הבטן עד יום מותו׃
8Then Manoah entreated Jehovah, and said, Oh, Lord, I pray thee, let the man of God whom thou didst send come again unto us, and teach us what we shall do unto the child that shall be born.
8Manoach fit cette prière à l'Eternel: Ah! Seigneur, que l'homme de Dieu que tu as envoyé vienne encore vers nous, et qu'il nous enseigne ce que nous devons faire pour l'enfant qui naîtra!
8ויעתר מנוח אל יהוה ויאמר בי אדוני איש האלהים אשר שלחת יבוא נא עוד אלינו ויורנו מה נעשה לנער היולד׃
9And God hearkened to the voice of Manoah; and the angel of God came again unto the woman as she sat in the field: but Manoah her husband was not with her.
9Dieu exauça la prière de Manoach, et l'ange de Dieu vint encore vers la femme. Elle était assise dans un champ, et Manoach, son mari, n'était pas avec elle.
9וישמע האלהים בקול מנוח ויבא מלאך האלהים עוד אל האשה והיא יושבת בשדה ומנוח אישה אין עמה׃
10And the woman made haste, and ran, and told her husband, and said unto him, Behold, the man hath appeared unto me, that came unto me the [other] day.
10Elle courut promptement donner cette nouvelle à son mari, et lui dit: Voici, l'homme qui était venu l'autre jour vers moi m'est apparu.
10ותמהר האשה ותרץ ותגד לאישה ותאמר אליו הנה נראה אלי האיש אשר בא ביום אלי׃
11And Manoah arose, and went after his wife, and came to the man, and said unto him, Art thou the man that spakest unto the woman? And he said, I am.
11Manoach se leva, suivit sa femme, alla vers l'homme, et lui dit: Est-ce toi qui as parlé à cette femme? Il répondit: C'est moi.
11ויקם וילך מנוח אחרי אשתו ויבא אל האיש ויאמר לו האתה האיש אשר דברת אל האשה ויאמר אני׃
12And Manoah said, Now let thy words come to pass: what shall be the ordering of the child, and [how] shall we do unto him?
12Manoach dit: Maintenant, si ta parole s'accomplit, que faudra-t-il observer à l'égard de l'enfant, et qu'y aura-t-il à faire?
12ויאמר מנוח עתה יבא דבריך מה יהיה משפט הנער ומעשהו׃
13And the angel of Jehovah said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.
13L'ange de l'Eternel répondit à Manoach: La femme s'abstiendra de tout ce que je lui ai dit.
13ויאמר מלאך יהוה אל מנוח מכל אשר אמרתי אל האשה תשמר׃
14She may not eat of anything that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing; all that I commanded her let her observe.
14Elle ne goûtera d'aucun produit de la vigne, elle ne boira ni vin ni liqueur forte, et elle ne mangera rien d'impur; elle observera tout ce que je lui ai prescrit.
14מכל אשר יצא מגפן היין לא תאכל ויין ושכר אל תשת וכל טמאה אל תאכל כל אשר צויתיה תשמר׃
15And Manoah said unto the angel of Jehovah, I pray thee, let us detain thee, that we may make ready a kid for thee.
15Manoach dit à l'ange de l'Eternel: Permets-nous de te retenir, et de t'apprêter un chevreau.
15ויאמר מנוח אל מלאך יהוה נעצרה נא אותך ונעשה לפניך גדי עזים׃
16And the angel of Jehovah said unto Manoah, Though thou detain me, I will not eat of thy bread; and if thou wilt make ready a burnt-offering, thou must offer it unto Jehovah. For Manoah knew not that he was the angel of Jehovah.
16L'ange de l'Eternel répondit à Manoach: Quand tu me retiendrais, je ne mangerais pas de ton mets; mais si tu veux faire un holocauste, tu l'offriras à l'Eternel. Manoach ne savait point que ce fût un ange de l'Eternel.
16ויאמר מלאך יהוה אל מנוח אם תעצרני לא אכל בלחמך ואם תעשה עלה ליהוה תעלנה כי לא ידע מנוח כי מלאך יהוה הוא׃
17And Manoah said unto the angel of Jehovah, What is thy name, that, when thy words come to pass, we may do thee honor?
17Et Manoach dit à l'ange de l'Eternel: Quel est ton nom, afin que nous te rendions gloire, quand ta parole s'accomplira?
17ויאמר מנוח אל מלאך יהוה מי שמך כי יבא דבריך וכבדנוך׃
18And the angel of Jehovah said unto him, Wherefore askest thou after my name, seeing it is wonderful?
18L'ange de l'Eternel lui répondit: Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom? Il est merveilleux.
18ויאמר לו מלאך יהוה למה זה תשאל לשמי והוא פלאי׃
19So Manoah took the kid with the meal-offering, and offered it upon the rock unto Jehovah: and [the angel] did wondrously, and Manoah and his wife looked on.
19Manoach prit le chevreau et l'offrande, et fit un sacrifice à l'Eternel sur le rocher. Il s'opéra un prodige, pendant que Manoach et sa femme regardaient.
19ויקח מנוח את גדי העזים ואת המנחה ויעל על הצור ליהוה ומפלא לעשות ומנוח ואשתו ראים׃
20For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of Jehovah ascended in the flame of the altar: and Manoah and his wife looked on; and they fell on their faces to the ground.
20Comme la flamme montait de dessus l'autel vers le ciel, l'ange de l'Eternel monta dans la flamme de l'autel. A cette vue, Manoach et sa femme tombèrent la face contre terre.
20ויהי בעלות הלהב מעל המזבח השמימה ויעל מלאך יהוה בלהב המזבח ומנוח ואשתו ראים ויפלו על פניהם ארצה׃
21But the angel of Jehovah did no more appear to Manoah or to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was the angel of Jehovah.
21L'ange de l'Eternel n'apparut plus à Manoach et à sa femme. Alors Manoach comprit que c'était l'ange de l'Eternel,
21ולא יסף עוד מלאך יהוה להראה אל מנוח ואל אשתו אז ידע מנוח כי מלאך יהוה הוא׃
22And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.
22et il dit à sa femme: Nous allons mourir, car nous avons vu Dieu.
22ויאמר מנוח אל אשתו מות נמות כי אלהים ראינו׃
23But his wife said unto him, If Jehovah were pleased to kill us, he would not have received a burnt-offering and a meal-offering at our hand, neither would he have showed us all these things, nor would at this time have told such things as these.
23Sa femme lui répondit: Si l'Eternel eût voulu nous faire mourir, il n'aurait pas pris de nos mains l'holocauste et l'offrande, il ne nous aurait pas fait voir tout cela, et il ne nous aurait pas maintenant fait entendre pareilles choses.
23ותאמר לו אשתו לו חפץ יהוה להמיתנו לא לקח מידנו עלה ומנחה ולא הראנו את כל אלה וכעת לא השמיענו כזאת׃
24And the woman bare a son, and called his name Samson: and the child grew, and Jehovah blessed him.
24La femme enfanta un fils, et lui donna le nom de Samson. L'enfant grandit, et l'Eternel le bénit.
24ותלד האשה בן ותקרא את שמו שמשון ויגדל הנער ויברכהו יהוה׃
25And the Spirit of Jehovah began to move him in Mahaneh-dan, between Zorah and Eshtaol.
25Et l'esprit de l'Eternel commença à l'agiter à Machané-Dan, entre Tsorea et Eschthaol.
25ותחל רוח יהוה לפעמו במחנה דן בין צרעה ובין אשתאל׃
