1And the men of Ephraim were gathered together, and passed northward; and they said unto Jephthah, Wherefore passedst thou over to fight against the children of Ammon, and didst not call us to go with thee? we will burn thy house upon thee with fire.
1Les hommes d'Ephraïm se rassemblèrent, partirent pour le nord, et dirent à Jephthé: Pourquoi es-tu allé combattre les fils d'Ammon sans nous avoir appelés à marcher avec toi? Nous voulons incendier ta maison et te brûler avec elle.
1ויצעק איש אפרים ויעבר צפונה ויאמרו ליפתח מדוע עברת להלחם בבני עמון ולנו לא קראת ללכת עמך ביתך נשרף עליך באש׃
2And Jephthah said unto them, I and my people were at great strife with the children of Ammon; and when I called you, ye saved me not out of their hand.
2Jephthé leur répondit: Nous avons eu de grandes contestations, moi et mon peuple, avec les fils d'Ammon; et quand je vous ai appelés, vous ne m'avez pas délivré de leurs mains.
2ויאמר יפתח אליהם איש ריב הייתי אני ועמי ובני עמון מאד ואזעק אתכם ולא הושעתם אותי מידם׃
3And when I saw that ye saved me not, I put my life in my hand, and passed over against the children of Ammon, and Jehovah delivered them into my hand: wherefore then are ye come up unto me this day, to fight against me?
3Voyant que tu ne venais pas à mon secours, j'ai exposé ma vie, et j'ai marché contre les fils d'Ammon. L'Eternel les a livrés entre mes mains. Pourquoi donc aujourd'hui montez-vous contre moi pour me faire la guerre?
3ואראה כי אינך מושיע ואשימה נפשי בכפי ואעברה אל בני עמון ויתנם יהוה בידי ולמה עליתם אלי היום הזה להלחם בי׃
4Then Jephthah gathered together all the men of Gilead, and fought with Ephraim; and the men of Gilead smote Ephraim, because they said, Ye are fugitives of Ephraim, ye Gileadites, in the midst of Ephraim, [and] in the midst of Manasseh.
4Jephthé rassembla tous les hommes de Galaad, et livra bataille à Ephraïm. Les hommes de Galaad battirent Ephraïm, parce que les Ephraïmites disaient: Vous êtes des fugitifs d'Ephraïm! Galaad est au milieu d'Ephraïm, au milieu de Manassé!
4ויקבץ יפתח את כל אנשי גלעד וילחם את אפרים ויכו אנשי גלעד את אפרים כי אמרו פליטי אפרים אתם גלעד בתוך אפרים בתוך מנשה׃
5And the Gileadites took the fords of the Jordan against the Ephraimites. And it was so, that, when [any of] the fugitives of Ephraim said, Let me go over, the men of Gilead said unto him, Art thou an Ephraimite? If he said, Nay;
5Galaad s'empara des gués du Jourdain du côté d'Ephraïm. Et quand l'un des fuyards d'Ephraïm disait: Laissez-moi passer! les hommes de Galaad lui demandaient: Es-tu Ephraïmite? Il répondait: Non.
5וילכד גלעד את מעברות הירדן לאפרים והיה כי יאמרו פליטי אפרים אעברה ויאמרו לו אנשי גלעד האפרתי אתה ויאמר לא׃
6then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth; and he said Sibboleth; for he could not frame to pronounce it right: then they laid hold on him, and slew him at the fords of the Jordan. And there fell at that time of Ephraim forty and two thousand.
6Ils lui disaient alors: Hé bien, dis Schibboleth. Et il disait Sibboleth, car il ne pouvait pas bien prononcer. Sur quoi les hommes de Galaad le saisissaient, et l'égorgeaient près des gués du Jourdain. Il périt en ce temps-là quarante-deux mille hommes d'Ephraïm.
6ויאמרו לו אמר נא שבלת ויאמר סבלת ולא יכין לדבר כן ויאחזו אותו וישחטוהו אל מעברות הירדן ויפל בעת ההיא מאפרים ארבעים ושנים אלף׃
7And Jephthah judged Israel six years. Then died Jephthah the Gileadite, and was buried in [one of] the cities of Gilead.
7Jephthé fut juge en Israël pendant six ans; puis Jephthé, le Galaadite, mourut, et fut enterré dans l'une des villes de Galaad.
7וישפט יפתח את ישראל שש שנים וימת יפתח הגלעדי ויקבר בערי גלעד׃
8And after him Ibzan of Beth-lehem judged Israel.
8Après lui, Ibtsan de Bethléhem fut juge en Israël.
8וישפט אחריו את ישראל אבצן מבית לחם׃
9And he had thirty sons; and thirty daughters he sent abroad, and thirty daughters he brought in from abroad for his sons. And he judged Israel seven years.
9Il eut trente fils, il maria trente filles au dehors, et il fit venir pour ses fils trente filles du dehors. Il fut juge en Israël pendant sept ans;
9ויהי לו שלשים בנים ושלשים בנות שלח החוצה ושלשים בנות הביא לבניו מן החוץ וישפט את ישראל שבע שנים׃
10And Ibzan died, and was buried at Beth-lehem.
10puis Ibtsan mourut, et fut enterré à Bethléhem.
10וימת אבצן ויקבר בבית לחם׃
11And after him Elon the Zebulunite judged Israel; and he judged Israel ten years.
11Après lui, Elon de Zabulon fut juge en Israël. Il fut juge en Israël pendant dix ans;
11וישפט אחריו את ישראל אילון הזבולני וישפט את ישראל עשר שנים׃
12And Elon the Zebulunite died, and was buried in Aijalon in the land of Zebulun.
12puis Elon de Zabulon mourut, et fut enterré à Ajalon, dans le pays de Zabulon.
12וימת אילון הזבולני ויקבר באילון בארץ זבולן׃
13And after him Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite judged Israel.
13Après lui, Abdon, fils d'Hillel, le Pirathonite, fut juge en Israël.
13וישפט אחריו את ישראל עבדון בן הלל הפרעתוני׃
14And he had forty sons and thirty sons' sons, that rode on threescore and ten ass colts: and he judged Israel eight years.
14Il eut quarante fils et trente petits-fils, qui montaient sur soixante dix ânons. Il fut juge en Israël pendant huit ans;
14ויהי לו ארבעים בנים ושלשים בני בנים רכבים על שבעים עירם וישפט את ישראל שמנה שנים׃
15And Abdon the son of Hillel the Pirathonite died, and was buried in Pirathon in the land of Ephraim, in the hill-country of the Amalekites.
15puis Abdon, fils d'Hillel, le Pirathonite, mourut, et fut enterré à Pirathon, dans le pays d'Ephraïm, sur la montagne des Amalécites.
15וימת עבדון בן הלל הפרעתוני ויקבר בפרעתון בארץ אפרים בהר העמלקי׃
