¹After he had ended all his sayings in the ears of the people, he entered into Capernaum.

¹Après avoir achevé tous ces discours devant le peuple qui l'écoutait, Jésus entra dans Capernaüm.

¹ויהי אחרי כלותו לדבר את כל דבריו באזני העם ויבא אל כפר נחום׃

²And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick and at the point of death.

²Un centenier avait un serviteur auquel il était très attaché, et qui se trouvait malade, sur le point de mourir.

²ועבד לאחד משרי המאות חלה למות והוא יקר לו מאד׃

³And when he heard concerning Jesus, he sent unto him elders of the Jews, asking him that he would come and save his servant.

³Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui envoya quelques anciens des Juifs, pour le prier de venir guérir son serviteur.

³וישמע את שמע ישוע וישלח אליו מזקני היהודים וישאל מאתו לבוא ולהושיע את עבדו׃

⁴And they, when they came to Jesus, besought him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that thou shouldest do this for him;

⁴Ils arrivèrent auprès de Jésus, et lui adressèrent d'instantes supplications, disant: Il mérite que tu lui accordes cela;

⁴ויבאו אל ישוע ויתחננו לו מאד ויאמרו ראוי הוא אשר תעשה בקשתו׃

⁵for he loveth our nation, and himself built us our synagogue.

⁵car il aime notre nation, et c'est lui qui a bâti notre synagogue.

⁵כי אהב עמנו הוא והוא בנה לנו את בית הכנסת׃

⁶And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof:

⁶Jésus, étant allé avec eux, n'était guère éloigné de la maison, quand le centenier envoya des amis pour lui dire: Seigneur, ne prends pas tant de peine; car je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit.

⁶וילך אתם ישוע ויהי כאשר קרב אל הבית וישלח אליו שר המאה על ידי רעיו לאמר לו בי אדני אל נא תטריח את עצמך כי אינני כדי שתבוא בצל קורתי׃

⁷wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say the word, and my servant shall be healed.

⁷C'est aussi pour cela que je ne me suis pas cru digne d'aller en personne vers toi. Mais dis un mot, et mon serviteur sera guéri.

⁷ובעבור זאת גם את עצמי לא חשבתי ראוי לבוא אליך אך דבר נא דבר וירפא נערי׃

⁸For I also am a man set under authority, having under myself soldiers: and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.

⁸Car, moi qui suis soumis à des supérieurs, j'ai des soldats sous mes ordres; et je dis à l'un: Va! et il va; à l'autre: Viens! et il vient; et à mon serviteur: Fais cela! et il le fait.

⁸כי גם אנכי איש נתון תחת השלטון יש תחת ידי אנשי צבא ואמרתי לזה לך והלך ולזה בוא ובא ולעבדי עשה זאת ועשה׃

⁹And when Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned and said unto the multitude that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.

⁹Lorsque Jésus entendit ces paroles, il admira le centenier, et, se tournant vers la foule qui le suivait, il dit: Je vous le dis, même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une aussi grande foi.

⁹וישמע ישוע את דבריו ויתמה עליו ויפן ויאמר אל ההמון ההלך אחריו אמר אני לכם גם בישראל לא מצאתי אמונה גדולה כזאת׃

¹⁰And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole.

¹⁰De retour à la maison, les gens envoyés par le centenier trouvèrent guéri le serviteur qui avait été malade.

¹⁰וישובו השלוחים אל הבית וימצאו את העבד החלה והוא נרפא׃

¹¹And it came to pass soon afterwards, that he went to a city called Nain; and his disciples went with him, and a great multitude.

¹¹Le jour suivant, Jésus alla dans une ville appelée Naïn; ses disciples et une grande foule faisaient route avec lui.

¹¹ויהי ממחרת וילך אל עיר ושמה נעים ורבים מתלמידיו הלכים אתו והמון עם רב׃

¹²Now when he drew near to the gate of the city, behold, there was carried out one that was dead, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her.

¹²Lorsqu'il fut près de la porte de la ville, voici, on portait en terre un mort, fils unique de sa mère, qui était veuve; et il y avait avec elle beaucoup de gens de la ville.

¹²הוא קרב אל שער העיר והנה מוציאים מת בן יחיד לאמו והיא אלמנה ועמה רבים מעם העיר׃

¹³And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not.

¹³Le Seigneur, l'ayant vue, fut ému de compassion pour elle, et lui dit: Ne pleure pas!

¹³וכראות אתה האדון נכמרו רחמיו עליה ויאמר לה אל תבכי׃

¹⁴And he came nigh and touched the bier: and the bearers stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise.

¹⁴Il s'approcha, et toucha le cercueil. Ceux qui le portaient s'arrêtèrent. Il dit: Jeune homme, je te le dis, lève-toi!

¹⁴ויגש ויגע בארון והנשאים עמדו ויאמר עלם אמר אני אליך קומה׃

¹⁵And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he gave him to his mother.

¹⁵Et le mort s'assit, et se mit à parler. Jésus le rendit à sa mère.

¹⁵ויתעודד המת ויחל לדבר ויתנהו לאמו׃

¹⁶And fear took hold on all: and they glorified God, saying, A great prophet is arisen among us: and, God hath visited his people.

¹⁶Tous furent saisis de crainte, et ils glorifiaient Dieu, disant: Un grand prophète a paru parmi nous, et Dieu a visité son peuple.

¹⁶ותאחז כלם רעדה וישבחו את האלהים ויאמרו כי נביא גדול קם בקרבנו וכי פקד האלהים את עמו׃

¹⁷And this report went forth concerning him in the whole of Judaea, and all the region round about.

¹⁷Cette parole sur Jésus se répandit dans toute la Judée et dans tout le pays d'alentour.

¹⁷ויצא הדבר הזה בכל יהודה ובכל הככר׃

¹⁸And the disciples of John told him of all these things.

¹⁸Jean fut informé de toutes ces choses par ses disciples.

¹⁸ותלמידי יוחנן הגידו לו את כל אלה׃

¹⁹And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to the Lord, saying, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?

¹⁹Il en appela deux, et les envoya vers Jésus, pour lui dire: Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?

¹⁹ויקרא אליו יוחנן שנים מתלמידיו וישלחם אל ישוע לאמר לו האתה הוא הבא אם נחכה לאחר׃

²⁰And when the men were come unto him, they said, John the Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that cometh, or look we for another?

²⁰Arrivés auprès de Jésus, ils dirent: Jean Baptiste nous a envoyés vers toi, pour dire: Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?

²⁰ויבאו אליו האנשים ויאמרו יוחנן המטביל שלחנו אליך לאמר האתה הוא הבא אם נחכה לאחר׃

²¹In that hour he cured many of diseases and plagues and evil spirits; and on many that were blind he bestowed sight.

²¹A l'heure même, Jésus guérit plusieurs personnes de maladies, d'infirmités, et d'esprits malins, et il rendit la vue à plusieurs aveugles.

²¹בעת ההיא רפא רבים מחליים ומנגעים ומרוחות רעות ולעורים רבים נתן ראות עינים׃

²²And he answered and said unto them, Go and tell John the things which ye have seen and heard; the blind receive their sight, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up, the poor have good tidings preached to them.

²²Et il leur répondit: Allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: les aveugles voient, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont purifiés, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, la bonne nouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres.

²²ויען ישוע ויאמר להם לכו והגידו ליוחנן את אשר ראיתם ואשר שמעתם כי עורים ראים ופסחים מתהלכים ומצרעים מטהרים וחרשים שומעים ומתים קמים ועניים מתבשרים׃

²³And blessed is he, whosoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.

²³Heureux celui pour qui je ne serai pas une occasion de chute!

²³ואשרי אשר לא יכשל בי׃

²⁴And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to say unto the multitudes concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness to behold? a reed shaken with the wind?

²⁴Lorsque les envoyés de Jean furent partis, Jésus se mit à dire à la foule, au sujet de Jean: Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert? un roseau agité par le vent?

²⁴ויהי כאשר הלכו להם שלוחי יוחנן ויחל לדבר אל המון העם על אדות יוחנן ויאמר מה זה יצאתם המדברה לראות הקנה אשר ינוע ברוח׃

²⁵But what went ye out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they that are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts.

²⁵Mais, qu'êtes-vous allés voir? un homme vêtu d'habits précieux? Voici, ceux qui portent des habits magnifiques, et qui vivent dans les délices, sont dans les maisons des rois.

²⁵ואם לא מה זה יצאתם לראות האיש לבוש בגדי עדנים הנה המלבשים בגדי תפארת והמענגים בחצרות המלכים המה׃

²⁶But what went ye out to see? a prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet.

²⁶Qu'êtes-vous donc allés voir? un prophète? Oui, vous dis-je, et plus qu'un prophète.

²⁶ועתה מה זה יצאתם לראות אם לראות איש נביא הן אני אמר לכם כי אף גדול הוא מנביא׃

²⁷This is he of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, Who shall prepare thy way before thee.

²⁷C'est celui dont il est écrit: Voici, j'envoie mon messager devant ta face, Pour préparer ton chemin devant toi.

²⁷זה הוא אשר כתוב עליו הנני שלח מלאכי לפניך ופנה דרכך לפניך׃

²⁸I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there is none greater than John: yet he that is but little in the kingdom of God is greater than he.

²⁸Je vous le dis, parmi ceux qui sont nés de femmes, il n'y en a point de plus grand que Jean. Cependant, le plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui.

²⁸כי אמר אני לכם אין איש בילודי אשה גדול מיוחנן המטביל אך הקטן במלכות האלהים גדול הוא ממנו׃

²⁹And all the people when they heard, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John.

²⁹Et tout le peuple qui l'a entendu et même les publicains ont justifié Dieu, en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean;

²⁹וכל העם והמכסים כשמעם הצדיקו את האלהים ויטבלו בטבילת יוחנן׃

³⁰But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected for themselves the counsel of God, being not baptized of him.

³⁰mais les pharisiens et les docteurs de la loi, en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui, ont rendu nul à leur égard le dessein de Dieu.

³⁰אך הפרושים ובעלי התורה נאצו את עצת האלהים על נפשם ולא נטבלו על ידו׃

³¹Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation, and to what are they like?

³¹A qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération, et à qui ressemblent-ils?

³¹ויאמר האדון עתה אל מי אדמה את אנשי הדור הזה ואל מי הם דמים׃

³²They are like unto children that sit in the marketplace, and call one to another; who say, We piped unto you, and ye did not dance; we wailed, and ye did not weep.

³²Ils ressemblent aux enfants assis dans la place publique, et qui, se parlant les uns aux autres, disent: Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez pas dansé; nous vous avons chanté des complaintes, et vous n'avez pas pleuré.

³²דמים הם לילדים הישבים בשוק וקראים זה אל זה ואמרים חללנו לכם בחלילים ולא רקדתם קוננו לכם קינה ולא בכיתם׃

³³For John the Baptist is come eating no bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a demon.

³³Car Jean Baptiste est venu, ne mangeant pas de pain et ne buvant pas de vin, et vous dites: Il a un démon.

³³כי בא יוחנן המטביל לחם לא אכל ויין לא שתה ואמרתם שד בו׃

³⁴The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!

³⁴Le Fils de l'homme est venu, mangeant et buvant, et vous dites: C'est un mangeur et un buveur, un ami des publicains et des gens de mauvaise vie.

³⁴ובא בן האדם והוא אכל ושתה ואמרתם הנה זולל וסבא ורע למוכסים ולחטאים׃

³⁵And wisdom is justified of all her children.

³⁵Mais la sagesse a été justifiée par tous ses enfants.

³⁵ותצדק החכמה על ידי כל בניה׃

³⁶And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he entered into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat.

³⁶Un pharisien pria Jésus de manger avec lui. Jésus entra dans la maison du pharisien, et se mit à table.

³⁶ויבקש ממנו אחד מן הפרושים לאכל אתו לחם ויבא אל בית הפרוש ויסב׃

³⁷And behold, a woman who was in the city, a sinner; and when she knew that he was sitting at meat in the Pharisee's house, she brought an alabaster cruse of ointment,

³⁷Et voici, une femme pécheresse qui se trouvait dans la ville, ayant su qu'il était à table dans la maison du pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre plein de parfum,

³⁷והנה אשה אחת בעיר והיא חטאת שמעה כי הוא מסב בית הפרוש ותבא פך שמן המור׃

³⁸and standing behind at his feet, weeping, she began to wet his feet with her tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

³⁸et se tint derrière, aux pieds de Jésus. Elle pleurait; et bientôt elle lui mouilla les pieds de ses larmes, puis les essuya avec ses cheveux, les baisa, et les oignit de parfum.

³⁸ותעמד לרגליו מאחריו ותבך ותחל להרטיב את רגליו בדמעות ותנגב אתן בשערות ראשה ותשק את רגליו ותמשח אתן בשמן׃

³⁹Now when the Pharisee that had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have perceived who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him, that she is a sinner.

³⁹Le pharisien qui l'avait invité, voyant cela, dit en lui-même: Si cet homme était prophète, il connaîtrait qui et de quelle espèce est la femme qui le touche, il connaîtrait que c'est une pécheresse.

³⁹וירא הפרוש הקרא אתו ויאמר בלבו אלו היה זה נביא כי עתה ידע ידע מי היא זאת ואי זו היא הנגעת בו כי אשה חטאת היא׃

⁴⁰And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Teacher, say on.

⁴⁰Jésus prit la parole, et lui dit: Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. - Maître, parle, répondit-il. -

⁴⁰ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו שמעון דבר לי אליך ויאמר רבי דבר׃

⁴¹A certain lender had two debtors: the one owed five hundred shillings, and the other fifty.

⁴¹Un créancier avait deux débiteurs: l'un devait cinq cents deniers, et l'autre cinquante.

⁴¹שני חיבים היו לנשה אחד האחד חיב לו דינרים חמש מאות והשני דינרים חמשים׃

⁴²When they had not [wherewith] to pay, he forgave them both. Which of them therefore will love him most?

⁴²Comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi payer, il leur remit à tous deux leur dette. Lequel l'aimera le plus?

⁴²ויהי באשר לא השיגה ידם לשלם וישמט את שניהם ועתה אמר נא מי משניהם ירבה לאהבה אתו׃

⁴³Simon answered and said, He, I suppose, to whom he forgave the most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged.

⁴³Simon répondit: Celui, je pense, auquel il a le plus remis. Jésus lui dit: Tu as bien jugé.

⁴³ויען שמעון ויאמר אחשב כי האיש ההוא אשר הרבה להשמיט לו ויאמר אליו כן שפטת׃

⁴⁴And turning to the woman, he said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thy house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath wetted my feet with her tears, and wiped them with her hair.

⁴⁴Puis, se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon: Vois-tu cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tu ne m'as point donné d'eau pour laver mes pieds; mais elle, elle les a mouillés de ses larmes, et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux.

⁴⁴ויפן אל האשה ויאמר אל שמעון הראית את האשה הזאת הנה באתי אל ביתך ומים על רגלי לא נתת והיא הרטיבה את רגלי בדמעות ותנגב בשערותיה׃

⁴⁵Thou gavest me no kiss: but she, since the time I came in, hath not ceased to kiss my feet.

⁴⁵Tu ne m'as point donné de baiser; mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, elle n'a point cessé de me baiser les pieds.

⁴⁵נשיקה לא נשקתני והיא מאז באתי לא חדלה מנשק את רגלי׃

⁴⁶My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but she hath anointed my feet with ointment.

⁴⁶Tu n'as point versé d'huile sur ma tête; mais elle, elle a versé du parfum sur mes pieds.

⁴⁶בשמן לא משחת את ראשי והיא בשמן המור משחה את רגלי׃

⁴⁷Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, [the same] loveth little.

⁴⁷C'est pourquoi, je te le dis, ses nombreux péchés ont été pardonnés: car elle a beaucoup aimé. Mais celui à qui on pardonne peu aime peu.

⁴⁷לכן אני אמר אליך נסלחו לה חטאתיה הרבות כי הרבה אהבה ואשר נסלח לו מעט הוא אהב מעט׃

⁴⁸And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.

⁴⁸Et il dit à la femme: Tes péchés sont pardonnés.

⁴⁸ויאמר אליה נסלחו לך חטאתיך׃

⁴⁹And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that even forgiveth sins?

⁴⁹Ceux qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: Qui est celui-ci, qui pardonne même les péchés?

⁴⁹ויחלו המסבים עמו לאמר בלבם מי הוא זה אשר גם יסלח חטאים׃

⁵⁰And he said unto the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

⁵⁰Mais Jésus dit à la femme: Ta foi t'a sauvée, va en paix.

⁵⁰ויאמר אל האשה אמונתך הושיעה לך לכי לשלום׃
