¹Now it came to pass, when the wall was built, and I had set up the doors, and the porters and the singers and the Levites were appointed,

²that I gave my brother Hanani, and Hananiah the governor of the castle, charge over Jerusalem; for he was a faithful man, and feared God above many.

²Je donnai mes ordres à Hanani, mon frère, et à Hanania, chef de la citadelle de Jérusalem, homme supérieur au grand nombre par sa fidélité et par sa crainte de Dieu.

²ואצוה את חנני אחי ואת חנניה שר הבירה על ירושלם כי הוא כאיש אמת וירא את האלהים מרבים׃

³And I said unto them, Let not the gates of Jerusalem be opened until the sun be hot; and while they stand [on guard], let them shut the doors, and bar ye them: and appoint watches of the inhabitants of Jerusalem, every one in his watch, and every one [to be] over against his house.

³Je leur dis: Les portes de Jérusalem ne s'ouvriront pas avant que la chaleur du soleil soit venue, et l'on fermera les battants aux verrous en votre présence; les habitants de Jérusalem feront la garde, chacun à son poste devant sa maison.

³ויאמר להם לא יפתחו שערי ירושלם עד חם השמש ועד הם עמדים יגיפו הדלתות ואחזו והעמיד משמרות ישבי ירושלם איש במשמרו ואיש נגד ביתו׃

⁴Now the city was wide and large; but the people were few therein, and the houses were not builded.

⁴La ville était spacieuse et grande, mais peu peuplée, et les maisons n'étaient pas bâties.

⁴והעיר רחבת ידים וגדולה והעם מעט בתוכה ואין בתים בנוים׃

⁵And my God put into my heart to gather together the nobles, and the rulers, and the people, that they might be reckoned by genealogy. And I found the book of the genealogy of them that came up at the first, and I found written therein:

⁵Mon Dieu me mit au coeur d'assembler les grands, les magistrats et le peuple, pour en faire le dénombrement. Je trouvai un registre généalogique de ceux qui étaient montés les premiers, et j'y vis écrit ce qui suit.

⁵ויתן אלהי אל לבי ואקבצה את החרים ואת הסגנים ואת העם להתיחש ואמצא ספר היחש העולים בראשונה ואמצא כתוב בו׃

⁶These are the children of the province, that went up out of the captivity of those that had been carried away, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away, and that returned unto Jerusalem and to Judah, every one unto his city;

⁶Voici ceux de la province qui revinrent de l'exil, ceux que Nebucadnetsar, roi de Babylone, avait emmenés captifs, et qui retournèrent à Jérusalem et en Juda, chacun dans sa ville.

⁷who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:

⁶¹And these were they that went up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addon, and Immer; but they could not show their fathers' houses, nor their seed, whether they were of Israel:

⁶¹Voici ceux qui partirent de Thel-Mélach, de Thel-Harscha, de Kerub-Addon, et d'Immer, et qui ne purent pas faire connaître leur maison paternelle et leur race, pour prouver qu'ils étaient d'Israël.

⁶¹ואלה העולים מתל מלח תל חרשא כרוב אדון ואמר ולא יכלו להגיד בית אבותם וזרעם אם מישראל הם׃

⁶²The children of Delaiah, the children of Tobiah, the children of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two.

⁶³And of the priests: the children of Hobaiah, the children of Hakkoz, the children of Barzillai, who took a wife of the daughters of Barzillai the Gileadite, and was called after their name.

⁶³Et parmi les sacrificateurs: les fils de Hobaja, les fils d'Hakkots, les fils de Barzillaï, qui avait pris pour femme une des filles de Barzillaï, le Galaadite, et fut appelé de leur nom.

⁶³ומן הכהנים בני חביה בני הקוץ בני ברזלי אשר לקח מבנות ברזלי הגלעדי אשה ויקרא על שמם׃

⁶⁴These sought their register [among] those that were reckoned by genealogy, but it was not found: therefore were they deemed polluted and put from the priesthood.

⁶⁴Ils cherchèrent leurs titres généalogiques, mais ils ne les trouvèrent point. On les exclut du sacerdoce,

⁶⁴אלה בקשו כתבם המתיחשים ולא נמצא ויגאלו מן הכהנה׃

⁶⁵And the governor said unto them, that they should not eat of the most holy things, till there stood up a priest with Urim and Thummim.

⁶⁵et le gouverneur leur dit de ne pas manger des choses très saintes jusqu'à ce qu'un sacrificateur eût consulté l'urim et le thummim.

⁶⁵ויאמר התרשתא להם אשר לא יאכלו מקדש הקדשים עד עמד הכהן לאורים ותומים׃

⁶⁶The whole assembly together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,

⁶⁶L'assemblée tout entière était de quarante-deux mille trois cent soixante personnes,

⁶⁶כל הקהל כאחד ארבע רבוא אלפים שלש מאות וששים׃

⁶⁷besides their men-servants and their maid-servants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women.

⁶⁷sans compter leurs serviteurs et leurs servantes, au nombre de sept mille trois cent trente-sept. Parmi eux se trouvaient deux cent quarante-cinq chantres et chanteuses.

⁶⁷מלבד עבדיהם ואמהתיהם אלה שבעת אלפים שלש מאות שלשים ושבעה ולהם משררים ומשררות מאתים וארבעים וחמשה׃

⁶⁸Their horses were seven hundred thirty and six; their mules, two hundred forty and five;

⁶⁸Ils avaient sept cent trente-six chevaux, deux cent quarante-cinq mulets,

⁶⁸סוסיהם שבע מאות שלשים וששה פרדיהם מאתים ארבעים וחמשה׃

⁶⁹[their] camels, four hundred thirty and five; [their] asses, six thousand seven hundred and twenty.

⁶⁹quatre cent trente-cinq chameaux, et six mille sept cent vingt ânes.

⁶⁹גמלים ארבע מאות שלשים וחמשה חמרים ששת אלפים שבע מאות ועשרים׃

⁷⁰And some from among the heads of fathers' [houses] gave unto the work. The governor gave to the treasury a thousand darics of gold, fifty basins, five hundred and thirty priests' garments.

⁷⁰Plusieurs des chefs de famille firent des dons pour l'oeuvre. Le gouverneur donna au trésor mille dariques d'or, cinquante coupes, cinq cent trente tuniques sacerdotales.

⁷⁰ומקצת ראשי האבות נתנו למלאכה התרשתא נתן לאוצר זהב דרכמנים אלף מזרקות חמשים כתנות כהנים שלשים וחמש מאות׃

⁷¹And some of the heads of fathers' [houses] gave into the treasury of the work twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand and two hundred pounds of silver.

⁷¹Les chefs de familles donnèrent au trésor de l'oeuvre vingt mille dariques d'or et deux mille deux cents mines d'argent.

⁷¹ומראשי האבות נתנו לאוצר המלאכה זהב דרכמונים שתי רבות וכסף מנים אלפים ומאתים׃

⁷²And that which the rest of the people gave was twenty thousand darics of gold, and two thousand pounds of silver, and threescore and seven priests' garments.

⁷²Le reste du peuple donna vingt mille dariques d'or, deux mille mines d'argent, et soixante-sept tuniques sacerdotales.

⁷²ואשר נתנו שארית העם זהב דרכמונים שתי רבוא וכסף מנים אלפים וכתנת כהנים ששים ושבעה׃

⁷³So the priests, and the Levites, and the porters, and the singers, and some of the people, and the Nethinim, and all Israel, dwelt in their cities. And when the seventh month was come, the children of Israel were in their cities.

⁷³Les sacrificateurs et les Lévites, les portiers, les chantres, les gens du peuple, les Néthiniens et tout Israël s'établirent dans leurs villes. Le septième mois arriva, et les enfants d'Israël étaient dans leurs villes.

⁷³וישבו הכהנים והלוים והשוערים והמשררים ומן העם והנתינים וכל ישראל בעריהם ויגע החדש השביעי ובני ישראל בעריהם׃
