¹And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

¹L'Eternel parla à Moïse, et dit:

¹וידבר יהוה אל משה לאמר׃

²Avenge the children of Israel of the Midianites: afterward shalt thou be gathered unto thy people.

²Venge les enfants d'Israël sur les Madianites; tu seras ensuite recueilli auprès de ton peuple.

²נקם נקמת בני ישראל מאת המדינים אחר תאסף אל עמיך׃

³And Moses spake unto the people, saying, Arm ye men from among you for the war, that they may go against Midian, to execute Jehovah's vengeance on Midian.

³Moïse parla au peuple, et dit: Equipez d'entre vous des hommes pour l'armée, et qu'ils marchent contre Madian, afin d'exécuter la vengeance de l'Eternel sur Madian.

³וידבר משה אל העם לאמר החלצו מאתכם אנשים לצבא ויהיו על מדין לתת נקמת יהוה במדין׃

⁴Of every tribe a thousand, throughout all the tribes of Israel, shall ye send to the war.

⁴Vous enverrez à l'armée mille hommes par tribu, de toutes les tribus d'Israël.

⁴אלף למטה אלף למטה לכל מטות ישראל תשלחו לצבא׃

⁵So there were delivered, out of the thousands of Israel, a thousand of every tribe, twelve thousand armed for war.

⁵On leva d'entre les milliers d'Israël mille hommes par tribu, soit douze mille hommes équipés pour l'armée.

⁵וימסרו מאלפי ישראל אלף למטה שנים עשר אלף חלוצי צבא׃

⁶And Moses sent them, a thousand of every tribe, to the war, them and Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, to the war, with the vessels of the sanctuary and the trumpets for the alarm in his hand.

⁶Moïse envoya à l'armée ces mille hommes par tribu, et avec eux le fils du sacrificateur Eléazar, Phinées, qui portait les instruments sacrés et les trompettes retentissantes.

⁶וישלח אתם משה אלף למטה לצבא אתם ואת פינחס בן אלעזר הכהן לצבא וכלי הקדש וחצצרות התרועה בידו׃

⁷And they warred against Midian, as Jehovah commanded Moses; and they slew every male.

⁷Ils s'avancèrent contre Madian, selon l'ordre que l'Eternel avait donné à Moïse; et ils tuèrent tous les mâles.

⁷ויצבאו על מדין כאשר צוה יהוה את משה ויהרגו כל זכר׃

⁸And they slew the kings of Midian with the rest of their slain: Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba, the five kings of Midian: Balaam also the son of Beor they slew with the sword.

⁸Ils tuèrent les rois de Madian avec tous les autres, Evi, Rékem, Tsur, Hur et Réba, cinq rois de Madian; ils tuèrent aussi par l'épée Balaam, fils de Beor.

⁸ואת מלכי מדין הרגו על חלליהם את אוי ואת רקם ואת צור ואת חור ואת רבע חמשת מלכי מדין ואת בלעם בן בעור הרגו בחרב׃

⁹And the children of Israel took captive the women of Midian and their little ones; and all their cattle, and all their flocks, and all their goods, they took for a prey.

⁹Les enfants d'Israël firent prisonnières les femmes des Madianites avec leurs petits enfants, et ils pillèrent tout leur bétail, tous leurs troupeaux et toutes leurs richesses.

⁹וישבו בני ישראל את נשי מדין ואת טפם ואת כל בהמתם ואת כל מקנהם ואת כל חילם בזזו׃

¹⁰And all their cities in the places wherein they dwelt, and all their encampments, they burnt with fire.

¹⁰Ils incendièrent toutes les villes qu'ils habitaient et tous leurs enclos.

¹⁰ואת כל עריהם במושבתם ואת כל טירתם שרפו באש׃

¹¹And they took all the spoil, and all the prey, both of man and of beast.

¹¹Ils prirent toutes les dépouilles et tout le butin, personnes et bestiaux;

¹¹ויקחו את כל השלל ואת כל המלקוח באדם ובבהמה׃

¹²And they brought the captives, and the prey, and the spoil, unto Moses, and unto Eleazar the priest, and unto the congregation of the children of Israel, unto the camp at the plains of Moab, which are by the Jordan at Jericho.

¹²et ils amenèrent les captifs, le butin et les dépouilles, à Moïse, au sacrificateur Eléazar, et à l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, campés dans les plaines de Moab, près du Jourdain, vis-à-vis de Jéricho.

¹²ויבאו אל משה ואל אלעזר הכהן ואל עדת בני ישראל את השבי ואת המלקוח ואת השלל אל המחנה אל ערבת מואב אשר על ירדן ירחו׃

¹³And Moses, and Eleazar the priest, and all the princes of the congregation, went forth to meet them without the camp.

¹³Moïse, le sacrificateur Eléazar, et tous les princes de l'assemblée, sortirent au-devant d'eux, hors du camp.

¹³ויצאו משה ואלעזר הכהן וכל נשיאי העדה לקראתם אל מחוץ למחנה׃

¹⁴And Moses was wroth with the officers of the host, the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds, who came from the service of the war.

¹⁴Et Moïse s'irrita contre les commandants de l'armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, qui revenaient de l'expédition.

¹⁴ויקצף משה על פקודי החיל שרי האלפים ושרי המאות הבאים מצבא המלחמה׃

¹⁵And Moses said unto them, Have ye saved all the women alive?

¹⁵Il leur dit: Avez-vous laissé la vie à toutes les femmes?

¹⁵ויאמר אליהם משה החייתם כל נקבה׃

¹⁶Behold, these caused the children of Israel, through the counsel of Balaam, to commit trespass against Jehovah in the matter of Peor, and so the plague was among the congregation of Jehovah.

¹⁶Voici, ce sont elles qui, sur la parole de Balaam, ont entraîné les enfants d'Israël à l'infidélité envers l'Eternel, dans l'affaire de Peor; et alors éclata la plaie dans l'assemblée de l'Eternel.

¹⁶הן הנה היו לבני ישראל בדבר בלעם למסר מעל ביהוה על דבר פעור ותהי המגפה בעדת יהוה׃

¹⁷Now therefore kill every male among the little ones, and kill every woman that hath known man by lying with him.

¹⁷Maintenant, tuez tout mâle parmi les petits enfants, et tuez toute femme qui a connu un homme en couchant avec lui;

¹⁷ועתה הרגו כל זכר בטף וכל אשה ידעת איש למשכב זכר הרגו׃

¹⁸But all the women-children, that have not known man by lying with him, keep alive for yourselves.

¹⁸mais laissez en vie pour vous toutes les filles qui n'ont point connu la couche d'un homme.

¹⁸וכל הטף בנשים אשר לא ידעו משכב זכר החיו לכם׃

¹⁹And encamp ye without the camp seven days: whosoever hath killed any person, and whosoever hath touched any slain, purify yourselves on the third day and on the seventh day, ye and your captives.

¹⁹Et vous, campez pendant sept jours hors du camp; tous ceux d'entre vous qui ont tué quelqu'un, et tous ceux qui ont touché un mort, se purifieront le troisième et le septième jour, eux et vos prisonniers.

¹⁹ואתם חנו מחוץ למחנה שבעת ימים כל הרג נפש וכל נגע בחלל תתחטאו ביום השלישי וביום השביעי אתם ושביכם׃

²⁰And as to every garment, and all that is made of skin, and all work of goats' [hair], and all things made of wood, ye shall purify yourselves.

²⁰Vous purifierez aussi tout vêtement, tout objet de peau, tout ouvrage de poil de chèvre et tout ustensile de bois.

²⁰וכל בגד וכל כלי עור וכל מעשה עזים וכל כלי עץ תתחטאו׃

²¹And Eleazar the priest said unto the men of war that went to the battle, This is the statute of the law which Jehovah hath commanded Moses:

²¹Le sacrificateur Eléazar dit aux soldats qui étaient allés à la guerre: Voici ce qui est ordonné par la loi que l'Eternel a prescrite à Moïse.

²¹ויאמר אלעזר הכהן אל אנשי הצבא הבאים למלחמה זאת חקת התורה אשר צוה יהוה את משה׃

²²howbeit the gold, and the silver, the brass, the iron, the tin, and the lead,

²²L'or, l'argent, l'airain, le fer, l'étain et le plomb,

²²אך את הזהב ואת הכסף את הנחשת את הברזל את הבדיל ואת העפרת׃

²³everything that may abide the fire, ye shall make to go through the fire, and it shall be clean; nevertheless it shall be purified with the water for impurity: and all that abideth not the fire ye shall make to go through the water.

²³tout objet qui peut aller au feu, vous le ferez passer par le feu pour le rendre pur. Mais c'est par l'eau de purification que sera purifié tout ce qui ne peut aller au feu; vous le ferez passer dans l'eau.

²³כל דבר אשר יבא באש תעבירו באש וטהר אך במי נדה יתחטא וכל אשר לא יבא באש תעבירו במים׃

²⁴And ye shall wash your clothes on the seventh day, and ye shall be clean; and afterward ye shall come into the camp.

²⁴Vous laverez vos vêtements le septième jour, et vous serez purs; ensuite, vous pourrez entrer dans le camp.

²⁴וכבסתם בגדיכם ביום השביעי וטהרתם ואחר תבאו אל המחנה׃

²⁵And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

²⁵L'Eternel dit à Moïse:

²⁵ויאמר יהוה אל משה לאמר׃

²⁶Take the sum of the prey that was taken, both of man and of beast, thou, and Eleazar the priest, and the heads of the fathers' [houses] of the congregation;

²⁶Fais, avec le sacrificateur Eléazar et les chefs de maison de l'assemblée, le compte du butin, de ce qui a été pris, personnes et bestiaux.

²⁶שא את ראש מלקוח השבי באדם ובבהמה אתה ואלעזר הכהן וראשי אבות העדה׃

²⁷and divide the prey into two parts: between the men skilled in war, that went out to battle, and all the congregation.

²⁷Partage le butin entre les combattants qui sont allés à l'armée et toute l'assemblée.

²⁷וחצית את המלקוח בין תפשי המלחמה היצאים לצבא ובין כל העדה׃

²⁸And levy a tribute unto Jehovah of the men of war that went out to battle: one soul of five hundred, [both] of the persons, and of the oxen, and of the asses, and of the flocks:

²⁸Tu prélèveras sur la portion des soldats qui sont allés à l'armée un tribut pour l'Eternel, savoir: un sur cinq cents, tant des personnes que des boeufs, des ânes et des brebis.

²⁸והרמת מכס ליהוה מאת אנשי המלחמה היצאים לצבא אחד נפש מחמש המאות מן האדם ומן הבקר ומן החמרים ומן הצאן׃

²⁹take it of their half, and give it unto Eleazar the priest, for Jehovah's heave-offering.

²⁹Vous le prendrez sur leur moitié, et tu le donneras au sacrificateur Eléazar comme une offrande à l'Eternel.

²⁹ממחציתם תקחו ונתתה לאלעזר הכהן תרומת יהוה׃

³⁰And of the children of Israel's half, thou shalt take one drawn out of every fifty, of the persons, of the oxen, of the asses, and of the flocks, [even] of all the cattle, and give them unto the Levites, that keep the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah.

³⁰Et sur la moitié qui revient aux enfants d'Israël tu prendras un sur cinquante, tant des personnes que des boeufs, des ânes et des brebis, de tout animal; et tu le donneras aux Lévites, qui ont la garde du tabernacle de l'Eternel.

³⁰וממחצת בני ישראל תקח אחד אחז מן החמשים מן האדם מן הבקר מן החמרים ומן הצאן מכל הבהמה ונתתה אתם ללוים שמרי משמרת משכן יהוה׃

³¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest did as Jehovah commanded Moses.

³¹Moïse et le sacrificateur Eléazar firent ce que l'Eternel avait ordonné à Moïse.

³¹ויעש משה ואלעזר הכהן כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃

³²Now the prey, over and above the booty which the men of war took, was six hundred thousand and seventy thousand and five thousand sheep,

³²Le butin, reste du pillage de ceux qui avaient fait partie de l'armée, était de six cent soixante-quinze mille brebis,

³²ויהי המלקוח יתר הבז אשר בזזו עם הצבא צאן שש מאות אלף ושבעים אלף וחמשת אלפים׃

³³and threescore and twelve thousand oxen,

³³soixante-douze mille boeufs,

³³ובקר שנים ושבעים אלף׃

³⁴and threescore and one thousand asses,

³⁴soixante et un mille ânes,

³⁴וחמרים אחד וששים אלף׃

³⁵and thirty and two thousand persons in all, of the women that had not known man by lying with him.

³⁵et trente-deux mille personnes ou femmes qui n'avaient point connu la couche d'un homme. -

³⁵ונפש אדם מן הנשים אשר לא ידעו משכב זכר כל נפש שנים ושלשים אלף׃

³⁶And the half, which was the portion of them that went out to war, was in number three hundred thousand and thirty thousand and seven thousand and five hundred sheep:

³⁶La moitié, formant la part de ceux qui étaient allés à l'armée, fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis,

³⁶ותהי המחצה חלק היצאים בצבא מספר הצאן שלש מאות אלף ושלשים אלף ושבעת אלפים וחמש מאות׃

³⁷and Jehovah's tribute of the sheep was six hundred and threescore and fifteen.

³⁷dont six cent soixante-quinze pour le tribut à l'Eternel;

³⁷ויהי המכס ליהוה מן הצאן שש מאות חמש ושבעים׃

³⁸And the oxen were thirty and six thousand; of which Jehovah's tribute was threescore and twelve.

³⁸trente-six mille boeufs, dont soixante-douze pour le tribut à l'Eternel;

³⁸והבקר ששה ושלשים אלף ומכסם ליהוה שנים ושבעים׃

³⁹And the asses were thirty thousand and five hundred; of which Jehovah's tribute was threescore and one.

³⁹trente mille cinq cents ânes, dont soixante et un pour le tribut à l'Eternel;

³⁹וחמרים שלשים אלף וחמש מאות ומכסם ליהוה אחד וששים׃

⁴⁰And the persons were sixteen thousand; of whom Jehovah's tribute was thirty and two persons.

⁴⁰et seize mille personnes, dont trente-deux pour le tribut à l'Eternel.

⁴⁰ונפש אדם ששה עשר אלף ומכסם ליהוה שנים ושלשים נפש׃

⁴¹And Moses gave the tribute, which was Jehovah's heave-offering, unto Eleazar the priest, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

⁴¹Moïse donna au sacrificateur Eléazar le tribut réservé comme offrande à l'Eternel, selon ce que l'Eternel lui avait ordonné. -

⁴¹ויתן משה את מכס תרומת יהוה לאלעזר הכהן כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃

⁴²And of the children of Israel's half, which Moses divided off from the men that warred

⁴²La moitié qui revenait aux enfants d'Israël, séparée par Moïse de celle des hommes de l'armée,

⁴²וממחצית בני ישראל אשר חצה משה מן האנשים הצבאים׃

⁴³(now the congregation's half was three hundred thousand and thirty thousand, seven thousand and five hundred sheep,

⁴³et formant la part de l'assemblée, fut de trois cent trente-sept mille cinq cents brebis,

⁴³ותהי מחצת העדה מן הצאן שלש מאות אלף ושלשים אלף שבעת אלפים וחמש מאות׃

⁴⁴and thirty and six thousand oxen,

⁴⁴trente-six mille boeufs,

⁴⁴ובקר ששה ושלשים אלף׃

⁴⁵and thirty thousand and five hundred asses,

⁴⁵trente mille cinq cents ânes,

⁴⁵וחמרים שלשים אלף וחמש מאות׃

⁴⁶and sixteen thousand persons),

⁴⁶et seize mille personnes.

⁴⁶ונפש אדם ששה עשר אלף׃

⁴⁷even of the children of Israel's half, Moses took one drawn out of every fifty, both of man and of beast, and gave them unto the Levites, that kept the charge of the tabernacle of Jehovah; as Jehovah commanded Moses.

⁴⁷Sur cette moitié qui revenait aux enfants d'Israël, Moïse prit un sur cinquante, tant des personnes que des animaux; et il le donna aux Lévites, qui ont la garde du tabernacle de l'Eternel, selon ce que l'Eternel lui avait ordonné.

⁴⁷ויקח משה ממחצת בני ישראל את האחז אחד מן החמשים מן האדם ומן הבהמה ויתן אתם ללוים שמרי משמרת משכן יהוה כאשר צוה יהוה את משה׃

⁴⁸And the officers that were over the thousands of the host, the captains of thousands, and the captains of hundreds, came near unto Moses;

⁴⁸Les commandants des milliers de l'armée, les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines, s'approchèrent de Moïse,

⁴⁸ויקרבו אל משה הפקדים אשר לאלפי הצבא שרי האלפים ושרי המאות׃

⁴⁹and they said unto Moses, Thy servants have taken the sum of the men of war that are under our charge, and there lacketh not one man of us.

⁴⁹et lui dirent: Tes serviteurs ont fait le compte des soldats qui étaient sous nos ordres, et il ne manque pas un homme d'entre nous.

⁴⁹ויאמרו אל משה עבדיך נשאו את ראש אנשי המלחמה אשר בידנו ולא נפקד ממנו איש׃

⁵⁰And we have brought Jehovah's oblation, what every man hath gotten, of jewels of gold, ankle-chains, and bracelets, signet-rings, ear-rings, and armlets, to make atonement for our souls before Jehovah.

⁵⁰Nous apportons, comme offrande à l'Eternel, chacun les objets d'or que nous avons trouvés, chaînettes, bracelets, anneaux, pendants d'oreilles, et colliers, afin de faire pour nos personnes l'expiation devant l'Eternel.

⁵⁰ונקרב את קרבן יהוה איש אשר מצא כלי זהב אצעדה וצמיד טבעת עגיל וכומז לכפר על נפשתינו לפני יהוה׃

⁵¹And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of them, even all wrought jewels.

⁵¹Moïse et le sacrificateur Eléazar reçurent d'eux tous ces objets travaillés en or.

⁵¹ויקח משה ואלעזר הכהן את הזהב מאתם כל כלי מעשה׃

⁵²And all the gold of the heave-offering that they offered up to Jehovah, of the captains of thousands, and of the captains of hundreds, was sixteen thousand seven hundred and fifty shekels.

⁵²Tout l'or, que les chefs de milliers et les chefs de centaines présentèrent à l'Eternel en offrande par élévation, pesait seize mille sept cent cinquante sicles.

⁵²ויהי כל זהב התרומה אשר הרימו ליהוה ששה עשר אלף שבע מאות וחמשים שקל מאת שרי האלפים ומאת שרי המאות׃

⁵³([For] the men of war had taken booty, every man for himself.)

⁵³Les hommes de l'armée gardèrent chacun le butin qu'ils avaient fait.

⁵³אנשי הצבא בזזו איש לו׃

⁵⁴And Moses and Eleazar the priest took the gold of the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and brought it into the tent of meeting, for a memorial for the children of Israel before Jehovah.

⁵⁴Moïse et le sacrificateur Eléazar prirent l'or des chefs de milliers et des chefs de centaines, et l'apportèrent à la tente d'assignation, comme souvenir pour les enfants d'Israël devant l'Eternel.

⁵⁴ויקח משה ואלעזר הכהן את הזהב מאת שרי האלפים והמאות ויבאו אתו אל אהל מועד זכרון לבני ישראל לפני יהוה׃
