¹My son, if thou wilt receive my words, And lay up my commandments with thee;

¹Mon fils, si tu reçois mes paroles, Et si tu gardes avec toi mes préceptes,

¹בני אם תקח אמרי ומצותי תצפן אתך׃

²So as to incline thine ear unto wisdom, And apply thy heart to understanding;

²Si tu rends ton oreille attentive à la sagesse, Et si tu inclines ton coeur à l'intelligence;

²להקשיב לחכמה אזנך תטה לבך לתבונה׃

³Yea, if thou cry after discernment, And lift up thy voice for understanding;

³Oui, si tu appelles la sagesse, Et si tu élèves ta voix vers l'intelligence,

³כי אם לבינה תקרא לתבונה תתן קולך׃

⁴If thou seek her as silver, And search for her as for hid treasures:

⁴Si tu la cherches comme l'argent, Si tu la poursuis comme un trésor,

⁴אם תבקשנה ככסף וכמטמונים תחפשנה׃

⁵Then shalt thou understand the fear of Jehovah, And find the knowledge of God.

⁵Alors tu comprendras la crainte de l'Eternel, Et tu trouveras la connaissance de Dieu.

⁵אז תבין יראת יהוה ודעת אלהים תמצא׃

⁶For Jehovah giveth wisdom; Out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding:

⁶Car l'Eternel donne la sagesse; De sa bouche sortent la connaissance et l'intelligence;

⁶כי יהוה יתן חכמה מפיו דעת ותבונה׃

⁷He layeth up sound wisdom for the upright; [He is] a shield to them that walk in integrity;

⁷Il tient en réserve le salut pour les hommes droits, Un bouclier pour ceux qui marchent dans l'intégrité,

⁷וצפן לישרים תושיה מגן להלכי תם׃

⁸That he may guard the paths of justice, And preserve the way of his saints.

⁸En protégeant les sentiers de la justice Et en gardant la voie de ses fidèles.

⁸לנצר ארחות משפט ודרך חסידו ישמר׃

⁹Then shalt thou understand righteousness and justice, And equity, [yea], every good path.

⁹Alors tu comprendras la justice, l'équité, La droiture, toutes les routes qui mènent au bien.

⁹אז תבין צדק ומשפט ומישרים כל מעגל טוב׃

¹⁰For wisdom shall enter into thy heart, And knowledge shall be pleasant unto thy soul;

¹⁰Car la sagesse viendra dans ton coeur, Et la connaissance fera les délices de ton âme;

¹⁰כי תבוא חכמה בלבך ודעת לנפשך ינעם׃

¹¹Discretion shall watch over thee; Understanding shall keep thee:

¹¹La réflexion veillera sur toi, L'intelligence te gardera,

¹¹מזמה תשמר עליך תבונה תנצרכה׃

¹²To deliver thee from the way of evil, From the men that speak perverse things;

¹²Pour te délivrer de la voie du mal, De l'homme qui tient des discours pervers,

¹²להצילך מדרך רע מאיש מדבר תהפכות׃

¹³Who forsake the paths of uprightness, To walk in the ways of darkness;

¹³De ceux qui abandonnent les sentiers de la droiture Afin de marcher dans des chemins ténébreux,

¹³העזבים ארחות ישר ללכת בדרכי חשך׃

¹⁴Who rejoice to do evil, And delight in the perverseness of evil;

¹⁴Qui trouvent de la jouissance à faire le mal, Qui mettent leur plaisir dans la perversité,

¹⁴השמחים לעשות רע יגילו בתהפכות רע׃

¹⁵Who are crooked in their ways, And wayward in their paths:

¹⁵Qui suivent des sentiers détournés, Et qui prennent des routes tortueuses;

¹⁵אשר ארחתיהם עקשים ונלוזים במעגלותם׃

¹⁶To deliver thee from the strange woman, Even from the foreigner that flattereth with her words;

¹⁶Pour te délivrer de la femme étrangère, De l'étrangère qui emploie des paroles doucereuses,

¹⁶להצילך מאשה זרה מנכריה אמריה החליקה׃

¹⁷That forsaketh the friend of her youth, And forgetteth the covenant of her God:

¹⁷Qui abandonne l'ami de sa jeunesse, Et qui oublie l'alliance de son Dieu;

¹⁷העזבת אלוף נעוריה ואת ברית אלהיה שכחה׃

¹⁸For her house inclineth unto death, And her paths unto the dead;

¹⁸Car sa maison penche vers la mort, Et sa route mène chez les morts:

¹⁸כי שחה אל מות ביתה ואל רפאים מעגלתיה׃

¹⁹None that go unto her return again, Neither do they attain unto the paths of life:

¹⁹Aucun de ceux qui vont à elle ne revient, Et ne retrouve les sentiers de la vie.

¹⁹כל באיה לא ישובון ולא ישיגו ארחות חיים׃

²⁰That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, And keep the paths of the righteous.

²⁰Tu marcheras ainsi dans la voie des gens de bien, Tu garderas les sentiers des justes.

²⁰למען תלך בדרך טובים וארחות צדיקים תשמר׃

²¹For the upright shall dwell in the land, And the perfect shall remain in it.

²¹Car les hommes droits habiteront le pays, Les hommes intègres y resteront;

²¹כי ישרים ישכנו ארץ ותמימים יותרו בה׃

²²But the wicked shall be cut off from the land, And the treacherous shall be rooted out of it.

²²Mais les méchants seront retranchés du pays, Les infidèles en seront arrachés.

²²ורשעים מארץ יכרתו ובוגדים יסחו ממנה׃
