1My son, forget not my law; But let thy heart keep my commandments:
1Mon fils, n'oublie pas mes enseignements, Et que ton coeur garde mes préceptes;
1בני תורתי אל תשכח ומצותי יצר לבך׃
2For length of days, and years of life, And peace, will they add to thee.
2Car ils prolongeront les jours et les années de ta vie, Et ils augmenteront ta paix.
2כי ארך ימים ושנות חיים ושלום יוסיפו לך׃
3Let not kindness and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart:
3Que la bonté et la fidélité ne t'abandonnent pas; Lie-les à ton cou, écris-les sur la table de ton coeur.
3חסד ואמת אל יעזבך קשרם על גרגרותיך כתבם על לוח לבך׃
4So shalt thou find favor and good understanding In the sight of God and man.
4Tu acquerras ainsi de la grâce et une raison saine, Aux yeux de Dieu et des hommes.
4ומצא חן ושכל טוב בעיני אלהים ואדם׃
5Trust in Jehovah with all thy heart, And lean not upon thine own understanding:
5Confie-toi en l'Eternel de tout ton coeur, Et ne t'appuie pas sur ta sagesse;
5בטח אל יהוה בכל לבך ואל בינתך אל תשען׃
6In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he will direct thy paths.
6Reconnais-le dans toutes tes voies, Et il aplanira tes sentiers.
6בכל דרכיך דעהו והוא יישר ארחתיך׃
7Be not wise in thine own eyes; Fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:
7Ne sois point sage à tes propres yeux, Crains l'Eternel, et détourne-toi du mal:
7אל תהי חכם בעיניך ירא את יהוה וסור מרע׃
8It will be health to thy navel, And marrow to thy bones.
8Ce sera la santé pour tes muscles, Et un rafraîchissement pour tes os.
8רפאות תהי לשרך ושקוי לעצמותיך׃
9Honor Jehovah with thy substance, And with the first-fruits of all thine increase:
9Honore l'Eternel avec tes biens, Et avec les prémices de tout ton revenu:
9כבד את יהוה מהונך ומראשית כל תבואתך׃
10So shall thy barns be filled with plenty, And thy vats shall overflow with new wine.
10Alors tes greniers seront remplis d'abondance, Et tes cuves regorgeront de moût.
10וימלאו אסמיך שבע ותירוש יקביך יפרצו׃
11My son, despise not the chastening of Jehovah; Neither be weary of his reproof:
11Mon fils, ne méprise pas la correction de l'Eternel, Et ne t'effraie point de ses châtiments;
11מוסר יהוה בני אל תמאס ואל תקץ בתוכחתו׃
12For whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.
12Car l'Eternel châtie celui qu'il aime, Comme un père l'enfant qu'il chérit.
12כי את אשר יאהב יהוה יוכיח וכאב את בן ירצה׃
13Happy is the man that findeth wisdom, And the man that getteth understanding.
13Heureux l'homme qui a trouvé la sagesse, Et l'homme qui possède l'intelligence!
13אשרי אדם מצא חכמה ואדם יפיק תבונה׃
14For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, And the profit thereof than fine gold.
14Car le gain qu'elle procure est préférable à celui de l'argent, Et le profit qu'on en tire vaut mieux que l'or;
14כי טוב סחרה מסחר כסף ומחרוץ תבואתה׃
15She is more precious than rubies: And none of the things thou canst desire are to be compared unto her.
15Elle est plus précieuse que les perles, Elle a plus de valeur que tous les objets de prix.
15יקרה היא מפניים וכל חפציך לא ישוו בה׃
16Length of days is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor.
16Dans sa droite est une longue vie; Dans sa gauche, la richesse et la gloire.
16ארך ימים בימינה בשמאולה עשר וכבוד׃
17Her ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.
17Ses voies sont des voies agréables, Et tous ses sentiers sont paisibles.
17דרכיה דרכי נעם וכל נתיבותיה שלום׃
18She is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: And happy is every one that retaineth her.
18Elle est un arbre de vie pour ceux qui la saisissent, Et ceux qui la possèdent sont heureux.
18עץ חיים היא למחזיקים בה ותמכיה מאשר׃
19Jehovah by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding he established the heavens.
19C'est par la sagesse que l'Eternel a fondé la terre, C'est par l'intelligence qu'il a affermi les cieux;
19יהוה בחכמה יסד ארץ כונן שמים בתבונה׃
20By his knowledge the depths were broken up, And the skies drop down the dew.
20C'est par sa science que les abîmes se sont ouverts, Et que les nuages distillent la rosée.
20בדעתו תהומות נבקעו ושחקים ירעפו טל׃
21My son, let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep sound wisdom and discretion:
21Mon fils, que ces enseignements ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux, Garde la sagesse et la réflexion:
21בני אל ילזו מעיניך נצר תשיה ומזמה׃
22So shall they be life unto thy soul, And grace to thy neck.
22Elles seront la vie de ton âme, Et l'ornement de ton cou.
22ויהיו חיים לנפשך וחן לגרגרתיך׃
23Then shalt thou walk in thy way securely, And thy foot shall not stumble.
23Alors tu marcheras avec assurance dans ton chemin, Et ton pied ne heurtera pas.
23אז תלך לבטח דרכך ורגלך לא תגוף׃
24When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: Yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
24Si tu te couches, tu seras sans crainte; Et quand tu seras couché, ton sommeil sera doux.
24אם תשכב לא תפחד ושכבת וערבה שנתך׃
25Be not afraid of sudden fear, Neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh:
25Ne redoute ni une terreur soudaine, Ni une attaque de la part des méchants;
25אל תירא מפחד פתאם ומשאת רשעים כי תבא׃
26For Jehovah will be thy confidence, And will keep thy foot from being taken.
26Car l'Eternel sera ton assurance, Et il préservera ton pied de toute embûche.
26כי יהוה יהיה בכסלך ושמר רגלך מלכד׃
27Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, When it is in the power of thy hand to do it.
27Ne refuse pas un bienfait à celui qui y a droit, Quand tu as le pouvoir de l'accorder.
27אל תמנע טוב מבעליו בהיות לאל ידיך לעשות׃
28Say not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again, And to-morrow I will give; When thou hast it by thee.
28Ne dis pas à ton prochain: Va et reviens, Demain je donnerai! quand tu as de quoi donner.
28אל תאמר לרעיך לך ושוב ומחר אתן ויש אתך׃
29Devise not evil against thy neighbor, Seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.
29Ne médite pas le mal contre ton prochain, Lorsqu'il demeure tranquillement près de toi.
29אל תחרש על רעך רעה והוא יושב לבטח אתך׃
30Strive not with a man without cause, If he have done thee no harm.
30Ne conteste pas sans motif avec quelqu'un, Lorsqu'il ne t'a point fait de mal.
30אל תרוב עם אדם חנם אם לא גמלך רעה׃
31Envy thou not the man of violence, And choose none of his ways.
31Ne porte pas envie à l'homme violent, Et ne choisis aucune de ses voies.
31אל תקנא באיש חמס ואל תבחר בכל דרכיו׃
32For the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; But his friendship is with the upright.
32Car l'Eternel a en horreur les hommes pervers, Mais il est un ami pour les hommes droits;
32כי תועבת יהוה נלוז ואת ישרים סודו׃
33The curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; But he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.
33La malédiction de l'Eternel est dans la maison du méchant, Mais il bénit la demeure des justes;
33מארת יהוה בבית רשע ונוה צדיקים יברך׃
34Surely he scoffeth at the scoffers; But he giveth grace unto the lowly.
34Il se moque des moqueurs, Mais il fait grâce aux humbles;
34אם ללצים הוא יליץ ולעניים יתן חן׃
35The wise shall inherit glory; But shame shall be the promotion of fools.
35Les sages hériteront la gloire, Mais les insensés ont la honte en partage.
35כבוד חכמים ינחלו וכסילים מרים קלון׃
