¹Hear, [my] sons, the instruction of a father, And attend to know understanding:

¹Ecoutez, mes fils, l'instruction d'un père, Et soyez attentifs, pour connaître la sagesse;

¹שמעו בנים מוסר אב והקשיבו לדעת בינה׃

²For I give you good doctrine; Forsake ye not my law.

²Car je vous donne de bons conseils: Ne rejetez pas mon enseignement.

²כי לקח טוב נתתי לכם תורתי אל תעזבו׃

³For I was a son unto my father, Tender and only beloved in the sight of my mother.

³J'étais un fils pour mon père, Un fils tendre et unique auprès de ma mère.

³כי בן הייתי לאבי רך ויחיד לפני אמי׃

⁴And he taught me, and said unto me: Let thy heart retain my words; Keep my commandments, and live;

⁴Il m'instruisait alors, et il me disait: Que ton coeur retienne mes paroles; Observe mes préceptes, et tu vivras.

⁴וירני ויאמר לי יתמך דברי לבך שמר מצותי וחיה׃

⁵Get wisdom, get understanding; Forget not, neither decline from the words of my mouth;

⁵Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers l'intelligence; N'oublie pas les paroles de ma bouche, et ne t'en détourne pas.

⁵קנה חכמה קנה בינה אל תשכח ואל תט מאמרי פי׃

⁶Forsake her not, and she will preserve thee; Love her, and she will keep thee.

⁶Ne l'abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; Aime-la, et elle te protégera.

⁶אל תעזבה ותשמרך אהבה ותצרך׃

⁷Wisdom [is] the principal thing; [therefore] get wisdom; Yea, with all thy getting get understanding.

⁷Voici le commencement de la sagesse: Acquiers la sagesse, Et avec tout ce que tu possèdes acquiers l'intelligence.

⁷ראשית חכמה קנה חכמה ובכל קנינך קנה בינה׃

⁸Exalt her, and she will promote thee; She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her.

⁸Exalte-la, et elle t'élèvera; Elle fera ta gloire, si tu l'embrasses;

⁸סלסלה ותרוממך תכבדך כי תחבקנה׃

⁹She will give to thy head a chaplet of grace; A crown of beauty will she deliver to thee.

⁹Elle mettra sur ta tête une couronne de grâce, Elle t'ornera d'un magnifique diadème.

⁹תתן לראשך לוית חן עטרת תפארת תמגנך׃

¹⁰Hear, O my son, and receive my sayings; And the years of thy life shall be many.

¹⁰Ecoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles; Et les années de ta vie se multiplieront.

¹⁰שמע בני וקח אמרי וירבו לך שנות חיים׃

¹¹I have taught thee in the way of wisdom; I have led thee in paths of uprightness.

¹¹Je te montre la voie de la sagesse, Je te conduis dans les sentiers de la droiture.

¹¹בדרך חכמה הרתיך הדרכתיך במעגלי ישר׃

¹²When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; And if thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.

¹²Si tu marches, ton pas ne sera point gêné; Et si tu cours, tu ne chancelleras point.

¹²בלכתך לא יצר צעדך ואם תרוץ לא תכשל׃

¹³Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: Keep her; for she is thy life.

¹³Retiens l'instruction, ne t'en dessaisis pas; Garde-la, car elle est ta vie.

¹³החזק במוסר אל תרף נצרה כי היא חייך׃

¹⁴Enter not into the path of the wicked, And walk not in the way of evil men.

¹⁴N'entre pas dans le sentier des méchants, Et ne marche pas dans la voie des hommes mauvais.

¹⁴בארח רשעים אל תבא ואל תאשר בדרך רעים׃

¹⁵Avoid it, pass not by it; Turn from it, and pass on.

¹⁵Evite-la, n'y passe point; Détourne-t'en, et passe outre.

¹⁵פרעהו אל תעבר בו שטה מעליו ועבור׃

¹⁶For they sleep not, except they do evil; And their sleep is taken away, unless they cause some to fall.

¹⁶Car ils ne dormiraient pas s'ils n'avaient fait le mal, Le sommeil leur serait ravi s'ils n'avaient fait tomber personne;

¹⁶כי לא ישנו אם לא ירעו ונגזלה שנתם אם לא יכשולו׃

¹⁷For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.

¹⁷Car c'est le pain de la méchanceté qu'ils mangent, C'est le vin de la violence qu'ils boivent.

¹⁷כי לחמו לחם רשע ויין חמסים ישתו׃

¹⁸But the path of the righteous is as the dawning light, That shineth more and more unto the perfect day.

¹⁸Le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante, Dont l'éclat va croissant jusqu'au milieu du jour.

¹⁸וארח צדיקים כאור נגה הולך ואור עד נכון היום׃

¹⁹The way of the wicked is as darkness: They know not at what they stumble.

¹⁹La voie des méchants est comme les ténèbres; Ils n'aperçoivent pas ce qui les fera tomber.

¹⁹דרך רשעים כאפלה לא ידעו במה יכשלו׃

²⁰My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear unto my sayings.

²⁰Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, Prête l'oreille à mes discours.

²⁰בני לדברי הקשיבה לאמרי הט אזנך׃

²¹Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thy heart.

²¹Qu'ils ne s'éloignent pas de tes yeux; Garde-les dans le fond de ton coeur;

²¹אל יליזו מעיניך שמרם בתוך לבבך׃

²²For they are life unto those that find them, And health to all their flesh.

²²Car c'est la vie pour ceux qui les trouvent, C'est la santé pour tout leur corps.

²²כי חיים הם למצאיהם ולכל בשרו מרפא׃

²³Keep thy heart with all diligence; For out of it are the issues of life.

²³Garde ton coeur plus que toute autre chose, Car de lui viennent les sources de la vie.

²³מכל משמר נצר לבך כי ממנו תוצאות חיים׃

²⁴Put away from thee a wayward mouth, And perverse lips put far from thee.

²⁴Ecarte de ta bouche la fausseté, Eloigne de tes lèvres les détours.

²⁴הסר ממך עקשות פה ולזות שפתים הרחק ממך׃

²⁵Let thine eyes look right on, And let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

²⁵Que tes yeux regardent en face, Et que tes paupières se dirigent devant toi.

²⁵עיניך לנכח יביטו ועפעפיך יישרו נגדך׃

²⁶Make level the path of thy feet, And let all thy ways be established.

²⁶Considère le chemin par où tu passes, Et que toutes tes voies soient bien réglées;

²⁶פלס מעגל רגלך וכל דרכיך יכנו׃

²⁷Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: Remove thy foot from evil.

²⁷N'incline ni à droite ni à gauche, Et détourne ton pied du mal.

²⁷אל תט ימין ושמאול הסר רגלך מרע׃
