¹After these things I saw another angel coming down out of heaven, having great authority; and the earth was lightened with his glory.

¹Après cela, je vis descendre du ciel un autre ange, qui avait une grande autorité; et la terre fut éclairée de sa gloire.

¹אחרי כן ראיתי מלאך אחר יורד מן השמים אשר לו שלטן גדול והארץ האירה מכבדו׃

²And he cried with a mighty voice, saying, Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, and is become a habitation of demons, and a hold of every unclean spirit, and a hold of every unclean and hateful bird.

²Il cria d'une voix forte, disant: Elle est tombée, elle est tombée, Babylone la grande! Elle est devenue une habitation de démons, un repaire de tout esprit impur, un repaire de tout oiseau impur et odieux,

²ויקרא בקול עז לאמר נפלה נפלה בבל הגדולה ותהי נוה שערים ומשמר לכל רוח טמא ומשמר לכל עוף טמא ונמאס׃

³For by the wine of the wrath of her fornication all the nations are fallen; and the kings of the earth committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth waxed rich by the power of her wantonness.

³parce que toutes les nations ont bu du vin de la fureur de son impudicité, et que les rois de la terre se sont livrés avec elle à l'impudicité, et que les marchands de la terre se sont enrichis par la puissance de son luxe.

³כי מיין חמת זנותה שתו כל הגוים ומלכי ארץ זנו עמה וסחרי ארץ משפעת תענגיה העשירו׃

⁴And I heard another voice from heaven, saying, Come forth, my people, out of her, that ye have no fellowship with her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues:

⁴Et j'entendis du ciel une autre voix qui disait: Sortez du milieu d'elle, mon peuple, afin que vous ne participiez point à ses péchés, et que vous n'ayez point de part à ses fléaux.

⁴ואשמע קול אחר מן השמים האמר צאו ממנה עמי פן תתחברו אל חטאתיה ופן תקחו ממכותיה׃

⁵for her sins have reached even unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities.

⁵Car ses péchés se sont accumulés jusqu'au ciel, et Dieu s'est souvenu de ses iniquités.

⁵כי חטאתיה הגיעו עד לשמים ויזכר אלהים את עונותיה׃

⁶Render unto her even as she rendered, and double [unto her] the double according to her works: in the cup which she mingled, mingle unto her double.

⁶Payez-la comme elle a payé, et rendez-lui au double selon ses oeuvres. Dans la coupe où elle a versé, versez-lui au double.

⁶שלמו לה גמולה שגמלה לכם ועשו לה כפלים כפעלה בכוס אשר מסכה מסכו לה כפלים׃

⁷How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning: for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning.

⁷Autant elle s'est glorifiée et plongée dans le luxe, autant donnez-lui de tourment et de deuil. Parce qu'elle dit en son coeur: Je suis assise en reine, je ne suis point veuve, et je ne verrai point de deuil!

⁷כאשר התרוממה והתענגה כן תנו לה חבל ואבל כי אמרה התרוממה והתענגה כן תנו לה חבל ואבל כי אמרה בלבבה אני ישבתי מלכה ולא אהיה אלמנה ואבל לא אראה׃

⁸Therefore in one day shall her plagues come, death, and mourning, and famine; and she shall be utterly burned with fire; for strong is the Lord God who judged her.

⁸A cause de cela, en un même jour, ses fléaux arriveront, la mort, le deuil et la famine, et elle sera consumée par le feu. Car il est puissant, le Seigneur Dieu qui l'a jugée.

⁸על כן רגע ביום אחד תבאנה מכותיה מות ואבל ורעב ותשרף במו אש כי חזק יהוה אלהים השפט אתה׃

⁹And the kings of the earth, who committed fornication and lived wantonly with her, shall weep and wail over her, when they look upon the smoke of her burning,

⁹Et tous les rois de la terre, qui se sont livrés avec elle à l'impudicité et au luxe, pleureront et se lamenteront à cause d'elle, quand ils verront la fumée de son embrasement.

⁹ויבכו ויספדו עליה מלכי ארץ אשר זנו והתענגו עמה בראתם את עשן שרפתה׃

¹⁰standing afar off for the fear of her torment, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, Babylon, the strong city! for in one hour is thy judgment come.

¹⁰Se tenant éloignés, dans la crainte de son tourment, ils diront: Malheur! malheur! La grande ville, Babylone, la ville puissante! En une seule heure est venu ton jugement!

¹⁰ומרחוק יעמדו מפני אימת ענויה ואמרו אוי אוי לך בבל העיר הגדולה העיר החזקה כי בשעה אחת בא משפטך׃

¹¹And the merchants of the earth weep and mourn over her, for no man buyeth their merchandise any more;

¹¹Et les marchands de la terre pleurent et sont dans le deuil à cause d'elle, parce que personne n'achète plus leur cargaison,

¹¹וסחרי הארץ בכים ומתאבלים עליה כי עתה לא יקנה עוד איש את משא אניותם׃

¹²merchandise of gold, and silver, and precious stone, and pearls, and fine linen, and purple, and silk, and scarlet; and all thyine wood, and every vessel of ivory, and every vessel made of most precious wood, and of brass, and iron, and marble;

¹²cargaison d'or, d'argent, de pierres précieuses, de perles, de fin lin, de pourpre, de soie, d'écarlate, de toute espèce de bois de senteur, de toute espèce d'objets d'ivoire, de toute espèce d'objets en bois très précieux, en airain, en fer et en marbre,

¹²את משא זהב וכסף ואבן יקרה ופנינים ובוץ וארגמן ומשי ושני וכל עצי בשם וכל כלי שנהבים וכל כלי עץ יקר וכלי נחשת וברזל ושיש׃

¹³and cinnamon, and spice, and incense, and ointment, and frankincense, and wine, and oil, and fine flour, and wheat, and cattle, and sheep; and [merchandise] of horses and chariots and slaves; and souls of men.

¹³de cinnamome, d'aromates, de parfums, de myrrhe, d'encens, de vin, d'huile, de fine farine, de blé, de boeufs, de brebis, de chevaux, de chars, de corps et d'âmes d'hommes.

¹³וקנמון וקטרת סמים ומר ולבונה ויין ושמן וסלת וחטים ומקנה וצאן וסוסים ומרכבות וגויות ונפש אדם׃

¹⁴And the fruits which thy soul lusted after are gone from thee, and all things that were dainty and sumptuous are perished from thee, and [men] shall find them no more at all.

¹⁴Les fruits que désirait ton âme sont allés loin de toi; et toutes les choses délicates et magnifiques sont perdues pour toi, et tu ne les retrouveras plus.

¹⁴והמגדים מחמד נפשך אזלו ממך וכל שמן ומצהיר אבד ממך ולא תמצאם עוד׃

¹⁵The merchants of these things, who were made rich by her, shall stand afar off for the fear of her torment, weeping and mourning;

¹⁵Les marchands de ces choses, qui se sont enrichis par elle, se tiendront éloignés, dans la crainte de son tourment; ils pleureront et seront dans le deuil,

¹⁵ורכליהם אשר העשירו ממנה יעמדו מרחוק מפני אימת ענויה ובכו והתאבלו׃

¹⁶saying, Woe, woe, the great city, she that was arrayed in fine linen and purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearl!

¹⁶et diront: Malheur! malheur! La grande ville, qui était vêtue de fin lin, de pourpre et d'écarlate, et parée d'or, de pierres précieuses et de perles!

¹⁶ואמרו אוי אוי העיר הגדולה המכסה בשש וארגמן ושני ומכללה בזהב ואבן יקרה ופנינים כי בשעה אחת החרב עשר גדול כזה׃

¹⁷for in an hour so great riches is made desolate. And every shipmaster, and every one that saileth any wither, and mariners, and as many as gain their living by sea, stood afar off,

¹⁷En une seule heure tant de richesses ont été détruites! Et tous les pilotes, tous ceux qui naviguent vers ce lieu, les marins, et tous ceux qui exploitent la mer, se tenaient éloignés,

¹⁷וכל חבל וכל בעל מעברת והמלחים וכל עשי מלאכה בים עמדו מרחוק׃

¹⁸and cried out as they looked upon the smoke of her burning, saying, What [city] is like the great city?

¹⁸et ils s'écriaient, en voyant la fumée de son embrasement: Quelle ville était semblable à la grande ville?

¹⁸ויצעקו בראתם עשן שרפתה לאמר מי בערים כעיר הגדולה׃

¹⁹And they cast dust on their heads, and cried, weeping and mourning, saying, Woe, woe, the great city, wherein all that had their ships in the sea were made rich by reason of her costliness! for in one hour is she made desolate.

¹⁹Et ils jetaient de la poussière sur leurs têtes, ils pleuraient et ils étaient dans le deuil, ils criaient et disaient: Malheur! malheur! La grande ville, où se sont enrichis par son opulence tous ceux qui ont des navires sur la mer, en une seule heure elle a été détruite!

¹⁹ויזרקו עפר על ראשיהם ויצעקו בכה וספוד לאמר אוי אוי העיר הגדולה אשר בה העשירו מהונה כל אשר להם אניות בים כי בשעה אחת החרבה׃

²⁰Rejoice over her, thou heaven, and ye saints, and ye apostles, and ye prophets; for God hath judged your judgment on her.

²⁰Ciel, réjouis-toi sur elle! Et vous, les saints, les apôtres, et les prophètes, réjouissez-vous aussi! Car Dieu vous a fait justice en la jugeant.

²⁰רנו עליה השמים והשליחים הקדשים והנביאים כי שפט אלהים את משפטכם ממנה׃

²¹And a strong angel took up a stone as it were a great millstone and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with a mighty fall shall Babylon, the great city, be cast down, and shall be found no more at all.

²¹Alors un ange puissant prit une pierre semblable à une grande meule, et il la jeta dans la mer, en disant: Ainsi sera précipitée avec violence Babylone, la grande ville, et elle ne sera plus trouvée.

²¹וישא מלאך נורא אבן גדולה כפלח רכב וישליכה אל תוך הים לאמר ככה תשלך במערצה בבל העיר הגדולה ולא תמצא עוד׃

²²And the voice of harpers and minstrels and flute-players and trumpeters shall be heard no more at all in thee; and no craftsman, of whatsoever craft, shall be found any more at all in thee; and the voice of a mill shall be heard no more at all in thee;

²²Et l'on n'entendra plus chez toi les sons des joueurs de harpe, des musiciens, des joueurs de flûte et des joueurs de trompette, on ne trouvera plus chez toi aucun artisan d'un métier quelconque, on n'entendra plus chez toi le bruit de la meule,

²²וקול המנגנים בכנור והמזמרים ומחללים בחלילים ומחצרים בחצצרות בל ישמע עוד בתוכך וכל חרש וחשב בל ימצא בך עוד וקול רחים בל ישמע עוד בקרבך׃

²³and the light of a lamp shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the princes of the earth; for with thy sorcery were all the nations deceived.

²³la lumière de la lampe ne brillera plus chez toi, et la voix de l'époux et de l'épouse ne sera plus entendue chez toi, parce que tes marchands étaient les grands de la terre, parce que toutes les nations ont été séduites par tes enchantements,

²³ואור נר לא יאיר לך עוד וקול חתן וקול כלה לא ישמע בך עוד כי כנעניך היו נכבדי ארץ ובכשפיך תעו כל הגוים׃

²⁴And in her was found the blood of prophets and of saints, and of all that have been slain upon the earth.

²⁴et parce qu'on a trouvé chez elle le sang des prophètes et des saints et de tous ceux qui ont été égorgés sur la terre.

²⁴ובה נמצא דם הנביאים והקדשים וכל הרוגי ארץ׃
