1Now Boaz went up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the near kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
1Boaz monta à la porte, et s'y arrêta. Or voici, celui qui avait droit de rachat, et dont Boaz avait parlé, vint à passer. Boaz lui dit: Approche, reste ici, toi un tel. Et il s'approcha, et s'arrêta.
1ובעז עלה השער וישב שם והנה הגאל עבר אשר דבר בעז ויאמר סורה שבה פה פלני אלמני ויסר וישב׃
2And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.
2Boaz prit alors dix hommes parmi les anciens de la ville, et il dit: Asseyez-vous ici. Et ils s'assirent.
2ויקח עשרה אנשים מזקני העיר ויאמר שבו פה וישבו׃
3And he said unto the near kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth the parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:
3Puis il dit à celui qui avait le droit de rachat: Naomi, revenue du pays de Moab, a vendu la pièce de terre qui appartenait à notre frère Elimélec.
3ויאמר לגאל חלקת השדה אשר לאחינו לאלימלך מכרה נעמי השבה משדה מואב׃
4And I thought to disclose it unto thee, saying, Buy it before them that sit here, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know; for there is none to redeem it besides thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
4J'ai cru devoir t'en informer, et te dire: Acquiers-la, en présence des habitants et en présence des anciens de mon peuple. Si tu veux racheter, rachète; mais si tu ne veux pas, déclare-le-moi, afin que je le sache. Car il n'y a personne avant toi qui ait le droit de rachat, et je l'ai après toi. Et il répondit: je rachèterai.
4ואני אמרתי אגלה אזנך לאמר קנה נגד הישבים ונגד זקני עמי אם תגאל גאל ואם לא יגאל הגידה לי ואדע כי אין זולתך לגאול ואנכי אחריך ויאמר אנכי אגאל׃
5Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
5Boaz dit: Le jour où tu acquerras le champ de la main de Naomi, tu l'acquerras en même temps de Ruth la Moabite, femme du défunt, pour relever le nom du défunt dans son héritage.
5ויאמר בעז ביום קנותך השדה מיד נעמי ומאת רות המואביה אשת המת קניתי להקים שם המת על נחלתו׃
6And the near kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: take thou my right of redemption on thee; for I cannot redeem it.
6Et celui qui avait le droit de rachat répondit: Je ne puis pas racheter pour mon compte, crainte de détruire mon héritage; prends pour toi mon droit de rachat, car je ne puis pas racheter.
6ויאמר הגאל לא אוכל לגאול לי פן אשחית את נחלתי גאל לך אתה את גאלתי כי לא אוכל לגאל׃
7Now this was [the custom] in former time in Israel concerning redeeming and concerning exchanging, to confirm all things: a man drew off his shoe, and gave it to his neighbor; and this was the [manner of] attestation in Israel.
7Autrefois en Israël, pour valider une affaire quelconque relative à un rachat ou à un échange, l'un ôtait son soulier et le donnait à l'autre: cela servait de témoignage en Israël.
7וזאת לפנים בישראל על הגאולה ועל התמורה לקים כל דבר שלף איש נעלו ונתן לרעהו וזאת התעודה בישראל׃
8So the near kinsman said unto Boaz, Buy it for thyself. And he drew off his shoe.
8Celui qui avait le droit de rachat dit donc à Boaz: Acquiers pour ton compte! Et il ôta son soulier.
8ויאמר הגאל לבעז קנה לך וישלף נעלו׃
9And Boaz said unto the elders, and unto all the people, Ye are witnesses this day, that I have bought all that was Elimelech's, and all that was Chilion's and Mahlon's, of the hand of Naomi.
9Alors Boaz dit aux anciens et à tout le peuple: Vous êtes témoins aujourd'hui que j'ai acquis de la main de Naomi tout ce qui appartenait à Elimélec, à Kiljon et à Machlon,
9ויאמר בעז לזקנים וכל העם עדים אתם היום כי קניתי את כל אשר לאלימלך ואת כל אשר לכליון ומחלון מיד נעמי׃
10Moreover Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of Mahlon, have I purchased to be my wife, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance, that the name of the dead be not cut off from among his brethren, and from the gate of his place: ye are witnesses this day.
10et que je me suis également acquis pour femme Ruth la Moabite, femme de Machlon, pour relever le nom du défunt dans son héritage, et afin que le nom du défunt ne soit point retranché d'entre ses frères et de la porte de son lieu. Vous en êtes témoins aujourd'hui!
10וגם את רות המאביה אשת מחלון קניתי לי לאשה להקים שם המת על נחלתו ולא יכרת שם המת מעם אחיו ומשער מקומו עדים אתם היום׃
11And all the people that were in the gate, and the elders, said, We are witnesses. Jehovah make the woman that is come into thy house like Rachel and like Leah, which two did build the house of Israel: and do thou worthily in Ephrathah, and be famous in Bethlehem:
11Tout le peuple qui était à la porte et les anciens dirent: Nous en sommes témoins! Que l'Eternel rende la femme qui entre dans ta maison semblable à Rachel et à Léa, qui toutes les deux ont bâti la maison d'Israël! Manifeste ta force dans Ephrata, et fais-toi un nom dans Bethléhem!
11ויאמרו כל העם אשר בשער והזקנים עדים יתן יהוה את האשה הבאה אל ביתך כרחל וכלאה אשר בנו שתיהם את בית ישראל ועשה חיל באפרתה וקרא שם בבית לחם׃
12and let thy house be like the house of Perez, whom Tamar bare unto Judah, of the seed which Jehovah shall give thee of this young woman.
12Puisse la postérité que l'Eternel te donnera par cette jeune femme rendre ta maison semblable à la maison de Pérets, qui fut enfanté à Juda par Tamar!
12ויהי ביתך כבית פרץ אשר ילדה תמר ליהודה מן הזרע אשר יתן יהוה לך מן הנערה הזאת׃
13So Boaz took Ruth, and she became his wife; and he went in unto her, and Jehovah gave her conception, and she bare a son.
13Boaz prit Ruth, qui devint sa femme, et il alla vers elle. L'Eternel permit à Ruth de concevoir, et elle enfanta un fils.
13ויקח בעז את רות ותהי לו לאשה ויבא אליה ויתן יהוה לה הריון ותלד בן׃
14And the women said unto Naomi, Blessed be Jehovah, who hath not left thee this day without a near kinsman; and let his name be famous in Israel.
14Les femmes dirent à Naomi: Béni soit l'Eternel, qui ne t'a point laissé manquer aujourd'hui d'un homme ayant droit de rachat, et dont le nom sera célébré en Israël!
14ותאמרנה הנשים אל נעמי ברוך יהוה אשר לא השבית לך גאל היום ויקרא שמו בישראל׃
15And he shall be unto thee a restorer of life, and a nourisher of thine old age, for thy daughter-in-law, who loveth thee, who is better to thee than seven sons, hath borne him.
15Cet enfant restaurera ton âme, et sera le soutien de ta vieillesse; car ta belle-fille, qui t'aime, l'a enfanté, elle qui vaut mieux pour toi que sept fils.
15והיה לך למשיב נפש ולכלכל את שיבתך כי כלתך אשר אהבתך ילדתו אשר היא טובה לך משבעה בנים׃
16And Naomi took the child, and laid it in her bosom, and became nurse unto it.
16Naomi prit l'enfant et le mit sur son sein, et elle fut sa garde.
16ותקח נעמי את הילד ותשתהו בחיקה ותהי לו לאמנת׃
17And the women her neighbors gave it a name, saying, There is a son born to Naomi; and they called his name Obed: he is the father of Jesse, the father of David.
17Les voisines lui donnèrent un nom, en disant: Un fils est né à Naomi! Et elles l'appelèrent Obed. Ce fut le père d'Isaï père de David.
17ותקראנה לו השכנות שם לאמר ילד בן לנעמי ותקראנה שמו עובד הוא אבי ישי אבי דוד׃
18Now these are the generations of Perez: Perez begat Hezron,
18Voici la postérité de Pérets. Pérets engendra Hetsron;
18ואלה תולדות פרץ פרץ הוליד את חצרון׃
19and Hezron begat Ram, and Ram begat Amminadab,
19Hetsron engendra Ram; Ram engendra Amminadab;
19וחצרון הוליד את רם ורם הוליד את עמינדב׃
20and Amminadab begat Nahshon, and Nahshon begat Salmon,
20Amminadab engendra Nachschon; Nachschon engendra Salmon;
20ועמינדב הוליד את נחשון ונחשון הוליד את שלמה׃
21and Salmon begat Boaz, and Boaz begat Obed,
21Salmon engendra Boaz; Boaz engendra Obed;
21ושלמון הוליד את בעז ובעז הוליד את עובד׃
22and Obed begat Jesse, and Jesse begat David.
22Obed engendra Isaï; et Isaï engendra David.
22ועבד הוליד את ישי וישי הוליד את דוד׃
