¹But speak thou the things which befit the sound doctrine:

¹Pour toi, dis les choses qui sont conformes à la saine doctrine.

¹ואתה דבר את הנאה ללקח הבריא׃

²that aged men be temperate, grave, sober-minded, sound in faith, in love, in patience:

²Dis que les vieillards doivent être sobres, honnêtes, modérés, sains dans la foi, dans la charité, dans la patience.

²שיהיו הזקנים משלים ברוחם ומכבדים וצנועים ובריאים באמונה ובאהבה ובסבלנות׃

³that aged women likewise be reverent in demeanor, not slanderers nor enslaved to much wine, teachers of that which is good;

³Dis que les femmes âgées doivent aussi avoir l'extérieur qui convient à la sainteté, n'être ni médisantes, ni adonnées au vin; qu'elles doivent donner de bonnes instructions,

³וכן הזקנות תהי הנהגתן כאשר נאוה לקדש לא תהיינה מלשינות ולא נכבשות לסבוא יין כי אם מלמדות טוב׃

⁴that they may train the young women to love their husbands, to love their children,

⁴dans le but d'apprendre aux jeunes femmes à aimer leurs maris et leurs enfants,

⁴ומישרות את הצעירות לאהב את בעליהן ולאהב את בניהן׃

⁵[to be] sober-minded, chaste, workers at home, kind, being in subjection to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed:

⁵tre retenues, chastes, occupées aux soins domestiques, bonnes, soumises à leurs maris, afin que la parole de Dieu ne soit pas blasphémée.

⁵ולהיות צנועות וטהרות צופיות הליכות ביתן וטבות ונכנעות לבעליהן למען לא יחלל דבר האלהים׃

⁶the younger men likewise exhort to be sober-minded:

⁶Exhorte de même les jeunes gens à être modérés,

⁶ככה תזהיר גם את הבחורים שיהיו צנועים׃

⁷in all things showing thyself an ensample of good works; in thy doctrine [showing] uncorruptness, gravity,

⁷te montrant toi-même à tous égards un modèle de bonnes oeuvres, et donnant un enseignement pur, digne,

⁷ובכל דבר היה אתה למופת במעשים טובים בהוראה צרופה ונהדרה׃

⁸sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of us.

⁸une parole saine, irréprochable, afin que l'adversaire soit confus, n'ayant aucun mal à dire de nous.

⁸ובדבר בריא ומום אין בו למען יבוש המתקומם ולא ימצא לדבר עליכם רע׃

⁹[Exhort] servants to be in subjection to their own masters, [and] to be well-pleasing [to them] in all things; not gainsaying;

⁹Exhorte les serviteurs à être soumis à leurs maîtres, à leur plaire en toutes choses, à n'être point contredisants,

⁹העבדים יכנעו לאדניהם ויתרצו להם בכל דבר ולא ימרו את דבריהם׃

¹⁰not purloining, but showing all good fidelity; that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour in all things.

¹⁰ne rien dérober, mais à montrer toujours une parfaite fidélité, afin de faire honorer en tout la doctrine de Dieu notre Sauveur.

¹⁰ולא ימעלו מעל כי אם יראו כל אמונה טובה למען יפארו בכל את לקח אלהינו מושיענו׃

¹¹For the grace of God hath appeared, bringing salvation to all men,

¹¹Car la grâce de Dieu, source de salut pour tous les hommes, a été manifestée.

¹¹כי הופיע חסד אלהים להושיע את כל בני האדם׃

¹²instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world;

¹²Elle nous enseigne à renoncer à l'impiété et aux convoitises mondaines, et à vivre dans le siècle présent selon la sagesse, la justice et la piété,

¹²וליסר אתנו אשר נתעב הרשע ותאות העולם ונחיה בעולם הזה בצניעות ובצדק ובחסידות׃

¹³looking for the blessed hope and appearing of the glory of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;

¹³en attendant la bienheureuse espérance, et la manifestation de la gloire du grand Dieu et de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ,

¹³ונחכה לתקוה המאשרת ולהופעת כבוד אלהינו הגדול ומושיענו ישוע המשיח׃

¹⁴who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a people for his own possession, zealous of good works.

¹⁴qui s'est donné lui-même pour nous, afin de nous racheter de toute iniquité, et de se faire un peuple qui lui appartienne, purifié par lui et zélé pour les bonnes oeuvres.

¹⁴אשר נתן את נפשו בעדנו לגאלנו מכל עול ולטהר לו עם סגלה הזריז במעשים טובים׃

¹⁵These things speak and exhort and reprove with all authority. Let no man despise thee.

¹⁵Dis ces choses, exhorte, et reprends, avec une pleine autorité. Que personne ne te méprise.

¹⁵את אלה תדבר ותזהיר ותוכיח בכל חזקה ואיש אל יבוז לך׃
