¹In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

¹Le huitième mois, la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Zacharie, fils de Bérékia, fils d'Iddo, le prophète, en ces mots:

¹בחדש השמיני בשנת שתים לדריוש היה דבר יהוה אל זכריה בן ברכיה בן עדו הנביא לאמר׃

²Jehovah was sore displeased with your fathers.

²L'Eternel a été très irrité contre vos pères.

²קצף יהוה על אבותיכם קצף׃

³Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: Return unto me, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will return unto you, saith Jehovah of hosts.

³Dis-leur donc: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Revenez à moi, dit l'Eternel des armées, et je reviendrai à vous, dit l'Eternel des armées.

³ואמרת אלהם כה אמר יהוה צבאות שובו אלי נאם יהוה צבאות ואשוב אליכם אמר יהוה צבאות׃

⁴Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets cried, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, Return ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith Jehovah.

⁴Ne soyez pas comme vos pères, auxquels s'adressaient les premiers prophètes, en disant: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Détournez-vous de vos mauvaises voies, de vos mauvaises actions! Mais ils n'écoutèrent pas, ils ne firent pas attention à moi, dit l'Eternel.

⁴אל תהיו כאבתיכם אשר קראו אליהם הנביאים הראשנים לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות שובו נא מדרכיכם הרעים ומעליליכם הרעים ולא שמעו ולא הקשיבו אלי נאם יהוה׃

⁵Your fathers, where are they? and the prophets, do they live for ever?

⁵Vos pères, où sont-ils? et les prophètes pouvaient-ils vivre éternellement?

⁵אבותיכם איה הם והנבאים הלעולם יחיו׃

⁶But my words and my statutes, which I commanded my servants the prophets, did they not overtake your fathers? and they turned and said, Like as Jehovah of hosts thought to do unto us, according to our ways, and according to our doings, so hath he dealt with us.

⁶Cependant mes paroles et les ordres que j'avais donnés à mes serviteurs, les prophètes, n'ont-ils pas atteint vos pères? Ils se sont retournés, et ils ont dit: L'Eternel des armées nous a traités comme il avait résolu de le faire selon nos voies et nos actions.

⁶אך דברי וחקי אשר צויתי את עבדי הנביאים הלוא השיגו אבתיכם וישובו ויאמרו כאשר זמם יהוה צבאות לעשות לנו כדרכינו וכמעללינו כן עשה אתנו׃

⁷Upon the four and twentieth day of the eleventh month, which is the month Shebat, in the second year of Darius, came the word of Jehovah unto Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo, the prophet, saying,

⁷Le vingt-quatrième jour du onzième mois, qui est le mois de Schebat, la seconde année de Darius, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Zacharie, fils de Bérékia, fils d'Iddo, le prophète, en ces mots:

⁷ביום עשרים וארבעה לעשתי עשר חדש הוא חדש שבט בשנת שתים לדריוש היה דבר יהוה אל זכריה בן ברכיהו בן עדוא הנביא לאמר׃

⁸I saw in the night, and, behold, a man riding upon a red horse, and he stood among the myrtle-trees that were in the bottom; and behind him there were horses, red, sorrel, and white.

⁸Je regardai pendant la nuit, et voici, un homme était monté sur un cheval roux, et se tenait parmi des myrtes dans un lieu ombragé; il y avait derrière lui des chevaux roux, fauves, et blancs.

⁸ראיתי הלילה והנה איש רכב על סוס אדם והוא עמד בין ההדסים אשר במצלה ואחריו סוסים אדמים שרקים ולבנים׃

⁹Then said I, O my lord, what are these? And the angel that talked with me said unto me, I will show thee what these are.

⁹Je dis: Qui sont ces chevaux, mon seigneur? Et l'ange qui parlait avec moi me dit: Je te ferai voir qui sont ces chevaux.

⁹ואמר מה אלה אדני ויאמר אלי המלאך הדבר בי אני אראך מה המה אלה׃

¹⁰And the man that stood among the myrtle-trees answered and said, These are they whom Jehovah hath sent to walk to and fro through the earth.

¹⁰L'homme qui se tenait parmi les myrtes prit la parole et dit: Ce sont ceux que l'Eternel a envoyés pour parcourir la terre.

¹⁰ויען האיש העמד בין ההדסים ויאמר אלה אשר שלח יהוה להתהלך בארץ׃

¹¹And they answered the angel of Jehovah that stood among the myrtle-trees, and said, We have walked to and fro through the earth, and, behold, all the earth sitteth still, and is at rest.

¹¹Et ils s'adressèrent à l'ange de l'Eternel, qui se tenait parmi les myrtes, et ils dirent: Nous avons parcouru la terre, et voici, toute la terre est en repos et tranquille.

¹¹ויענו את מלאך יהוה העמד בין ההדסים ויאמרו התהלכנו בארץ והנה כל הארץ ישבת ושקטת׃

¹²Then the angel of Jehovah answered and said, O Jehovah of hosts, how long wilt thou not have mercy on Jerusalem and on the cities of Judah, against which thou hast had indignation these threescore and ten years?

¹²Alors l'ange de l'Eternel prit la parole et dit: Eternel des armées, jusques à quand n'auras-tu pas compassion de Jérusalem et des villes de Juda, contre lesquelles tu es irrité depuis soixante-dix ans?

¹²ויען מלאך יהוה ויאמר יהוה צבאות עד מתי אתה לא תרחם את ירושלם ואת ערי יהודה אשר זעמתה זה שבעים שנה׃

¹³And Jehovah answered the angel that talked with me with good words, [even] comfortable words.

¹³L'Eternel répondit par de bonnes paroles, par des paroles de consolation, à l'ange qui parlait avec moi.

¹³ויען יהוה את המלאך הדבר בי דברים טובים דברים נחמים׃

¹⁴So the angel that talked with me said unto me, Cry thou, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy.

¹⁴Et l'ange qui parlait avec moi me dit: Crie, et dis: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Je suis ému d'une grande jalousie pour Jérusalem et pour Sion,

¹⁴ויאמר אלי המלאך הדבר בי קרא לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות קנאתי לירושלם ולציון קנאה גדולה׃

¹⁵And I am very sore displeased with the nations that are at ease; for I was but a little displeased, and they helped forward the affliction.

¹⁵et je suis saisi d'une grande irritation contre les nations orgueilleuses; car je n'étais que peu irrité, mais elles ont contribué au mal.

¹⁵וקצף גדול אני קצף על הגוים השאננים אשר אני קצפתי מעט והמה עזרו לרעה׃

¹⁶Therefore thus saith Jehovah: I am returned to Jerusalem with mercies; my house shall be built in it, saith Jehovah of hosts, and a line shall be stretched forth over Jerusalem.

¹⁶C'est pourquoi ainsi parle l'Eternel: Je reviens à Jérusalem avec compassion; ma maison y sera rebâtie, et le cordeau sera étendu sur Jérusalem.

¹⁶לכן כה אמר יהוה שבתי לירושלם ברחמים ביתי יבנה בה נאם יהוה צבאות וקוה ינטה על ירושלם׃

¹⁷Cry yet again, saying, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts: My cities shall yet overflow with prosperity; and Jehovah shall yet comfort Zion, and shall yet choose Jerusalem.

¹⁷Crie de nouveau, et dis: Ainsi parle l'Eternel des armées: Mes villes auront encore des biens en abondance; l'Eternel consolera encore Sion, il choisira encore Jérusalem.

¹⁷עוד קרא לאמר כה אמר יהוה צבאות עוד תפוצינה ערי מטוב ונחם יהוה עוד את ציון ובחר עוד בירושלם׃

¹⁸And I lifted up mine eyes, and saw, and, behold, four horns.

¹⁸Je levai les yeux et je regardai, et voici, il y avait quatre cornes.

¹⁸ואשא את עיני וארא והנה ארבע קרנות׃

¹⁹And I said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these? And he answered me, These are the horns which have scattered Judah, Israel, and Jerusalem.

¹⁹Je dis à l'ange qui parlait avec moi: Qu'est-ce que ces cornes? Et il me dit: Ce sont les cornes qui ont dispersé Juda, Israël et Jérusalem.

¹⁹ואמר אל המלאך הדבר בי מה אלה ויאמר אלי אלה הקרנות אשר זרו את יהודה את ישראל וירושלם׃

²⁰And Jehovah showed me four smiths.

²⁰L'Eternel me fit voir quatre forgerons.

²⁰ויראני יהוה ארבעה חרשים׃

²¹Then said I, What come these to do? And he spake, saying, These are the horns which scattered Judah, so that no man did lift up his head; but these are come to terrify them, to cast down the horns of the nations, which lifted up their horn against the land of Judah to scatter it.

²¹Je dis: Que viennent-ils faire? Et il dit: Ce sont les cornes qui ont dispersé Juda, tellement que nul ne lève la tête; et ces forgerons sont venus pour les effrayer, et pour abattre les cornes des nations qui ont levé la corne contre le pays de Juda, afin d'en disperser les habitants.

²¹ואמר מה אלה באים לעשות ויאמר לאמר אלה הקרנות אשר זרו את יהודה כפי איש לא נשא ראשו ויבאו אלה להחריד אתם לידות את קרנות הגוים הנשאים קרן אל ארץ יהודה לזרותה׃
