¹Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, Wise-men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying,

¹Yesus dilahirkan di kota Betlehem di negeri Yudea pada masa pemerintahan Raja Herodes. Pada waktu itu beberapa ahli ilmu bintang dari Timur datang ke Yerusalem.

²Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we saw his star in the east, and are come to worship him.

²Mereka bertanya di mana-mana, "Di manakah Anak itu, yang lahir untuk menjadi raja orang Yahudi? Kami melihat bintang-Nya terbit di sebelah timur, dan kami datang untuk menyembah Dia."

³And when Herod the king heard it, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.

³Ketika Raja Herodes mendengar hal itu, ia terkejut sekali, begitu juga semua orang di Yerusalem.

⁴And gathering together all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ should be born.

⁴Maka ia menyuruh semua imam kepala dan guru-guru agama bangsa Yahudi datang berkumpul. Lalu ia bertanya kepada mereka, "Di manakah akan lahir Raja yang dijanjikan Allah?"

⁵And they said unto him, In Bethlehem of Judaea: for thus it is written through the prophet,

⁵Mereka menjawab, "Di kota Betlehem di negeri Yudea. Sebab beginilah ditulis oleh seorang nabi,

⁶And thou Bethlehem, land of Judah, Art in no wise least among the princes of Judah: For out of thee shall come forth a governor, Who shall be shepherd of my people Israel.

⁶'Engkau Betlehem, di negeri Yehuda, engkau sekali-kali bukanlah yang terkecil di antara kota-kota utama di Yehuda. Karena dari engkau akan datang seorang pemimpin yang akan memimpin umat-Ku Israel.'"

⁷Then Herod privily called the Wise-men, and learned of them exactly what time the star appeared.

⁷Sesudah mendapat keterangan itu, Herodes memanggil ahli-ahli bintang dari Timur itu secara diam-diam. Lalu ia bertanya kepada mereka kapan tepatnya bintang itu mulai kelihatan.

⁸And he sent them to Bethlehem, and said, Go and search out exactly concerning the young child; and when ye have found [him,] bring me word, that I also may come and worship him.

⁸Sesudah itu ia menyuruh mereka ke Betlehem dengan pesan ini, "Pergilah, carilah Anak itu dengan teliti. Dan kalau kalian menemukan Dia, beritahukanlah kepadaku, supaya aku juga pergi menyembah Dia."

⁹And they, having heard the king, went their way; and lo, the star, which they saw in the east, went before them, till it came and stood over where the young child was.

⁹Lalu pergilah mereka. Mereka melihat lagi bintang yang mereka lihat dahulu di sebelah timur. Alangkah gembiranya mereka melihat bintang itu! Bintang itu mendahului mereka, lalu berhenti tepat di atas tempat Anak itu.

¹⁰And when they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy.

¹⁰(2:9)

¹¹And they came into the house and saw the young child with Mary his mother; and they fell down and worshipped him; and opening their treasures they offered unto him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh.

¹¹Mereka masuk ke dalam rumah itu dan melihat Anak itu dengan Maria, ibu-Nya. Mereka sujud dan menyembah Anak itu, lalu membuka tempat harta mereka, dan mempersembahkan kepada-Nya emas, kemenyan, dan mur.

¹²And being warned [of God] in a dream that they should not return to Herod, they departed into their own country another way.

¹²Allah memperingatkan mereka di dalam mimpi supaya jangan kembali kepada Herodes. Jadi mereka pulang melalui jalan yang lain.

¹³Now when they were departed, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise and take the young child and his mother, and flee into Egypt, and be thou there until I tell thee: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him.

¹³Setelah ahli-ahli bintang itu berangkat, malaikat Tuhan menampakkan diri kepada Yusuf di dalam mimpi. Malaikat itu berkata, "Herodes bermaksud mencari Anak itu untuk membunuh Dia. Karena itu bangunlah, bawalah Anak itu dengan ibu-Nya mengungsi ke Mesir. Tinggallah di sana sampai Aku berbicara lagi kepadamu."

¹⁴And he arose and took the young child and his mother by night, and departed into Egypt;

¹⁴Yusuf bangun, dan malam itu juga ia membawa Anak itu dengan ibu-Nya mengungsi ke Mesir.

¹⁵and was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt did I call my son.

¹⁵Mereka tinggal di sana sampai Herodes meninggal. Demikian terjadilah apa yang dikatakan Tuhan melalui nabi-Nya, begini, "Aku memanggil Anak-Ku dari Mesir."

¹⁶Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the Wise-men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the male children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the borders thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had exactly learned of the Wise-men.

¹⁶Ketika Herodes tahu bahwa ahli-ahli bintang dari Timur itu menipunya, ia marah sekali. Lalu ia memerintahkan untuk membunuh semua anak laki-laki yang berumur dua tahun ke bawah di Betlehem dan sekitarnya. Itu cocok dengan keterangan yang didapatnya dari ahli-ahli bintang itu tentang saatnya bintang itu kelihatan.

¹⁷Then was fulfilled that which was spoken through Jeremiah the prophet, saying,

¹⁷Demikianlah terjadi apa yang pernah dikatakan oleh Nabi Yeremia, yaitu,

¹⁸A voice was heard in Ramah, Weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children; And she would not be comforted, because they are not.

¹⁸"Di Rama terdengar suara ratapan, keluhan serta tangisan. Rahel meratapi anak-anaknya; ia tak mau dihibur sebab mereka sudah tiada."

¹⁹But when Herod was dead, behold, an angel of the Lord appeareth in a dream to Joseph in Egypt, saying,

¹⁹Sesudah Herodes meninggal, ketika Yusuf masih di Mesir seorang malaikat Tuhan menampakkan diri lagi kepada Yusuf di dalam mimpi.

²⁰Arise and take the young child and his mother, and go into the land of Israel: for they are dead that sought the young child's life.

²⁰Malaikat itu berkata, "Orang-orang yang mau membunuh Anak itu sudah meninggal. Karena itu bangunlah, ambil Anak itu dengan ibu-Nya dan kembalilah ke Israel."

²¹And he arose and took the young child and his mother, and came into the land of Israel.

²¹Yusuf pun bangun, lalu membawa Anak itu dengan Maria kembali ke Israel.

²²But when he heard that Archelaus was reigning over Judaea in the room of his father Herod, he was afraid to go thither; and being warned [of God] in a dream, he withdrew into the parts of Galilee,

²²Tetapi kemudian Yusuf mendengar bahwa Arkelaus, putra Herodes sudah menggantikan ayahnya menjadi raja negeri Yudea. Jadi Yusuf takut pergi ke sana. Sesudah ia mendapat petunjuk Tuhan lebih lanjut dalam mimpi, ia pergi ke daerah Galilea.

²³and came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth; that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through the prophets, that he should be called a Nazarene.

²³Di situ ia tinggal di kota yang bernama Nazaret. Dengan demikian terjadilah apa yang dikatakan oleh nabi-nabi mengenai Anak itu: "Ia akan disebut Orang Nazaret."
