1A [good] name is rather to be chosen than great riches, [And] loving favor rather than silver and gold.
1धन सम्पत्तीको मालिक हुनु भन्दा सम्मान पाउनु असल हो। सम्मानित हुनु सुन चाँदी भन्दा उत्तम हो।
2The rich and the poor meet together: Jehovah is the maker of them all.
2सबै परमप्रभुका सृष्टि हुन यसर्थ कुन धनी कुन गरीब बराबरी हो।
3A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself; But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.
3एउटा बुद्धिमान मानिसले कष्टलाई पहिले नै देखेर यसबाट अघि नै तर्किन्छ, तर अनुभव नभएका मानिसहरू सिधै ती कष्टहरूमा पर्छन अनि दुःख पाउँछन्।
4The reward of humility [and] the fear of Jehovah [Is] riches, and honor, and life.
4नम्र बन अनि परमप्रभुलाई आदर गर, तब तिमीहरू बाच्नेछौ अनि धन र सम्मान पाउने छौ।
5Thorns [and] snares are in the way of the perverse: He that keepeth his soul shall be far from them.
5दुष्ट मानिस नाना थरीका फंदामा पर्छ, तर आफ्नो आत्माको पर्वाह गर्ने मानिस यस्तो कष्ट देखि टाडो बस्छ।
6Train up a child in the way he should go, And even when he is old he will not depart from it.
6नानीहरूलाई सही जीवन निर्वाह गर्नु सानै बाट सिकाउनु पर्छ, तब त्यो नानी बढे पनि त्यही प्रकारले जीवन यापन् गर्छ।
7The rich ruleth over the poor; And the borrower is servant to the lender.
7धनी मानिसहरूले गरीब मानिसहरूलाई शासन गर्छन् अनि उधारो लिनेहरू उधारो दिनेहरूको कमारा बन्छन्।
8He that soweth iniquity shall reap calamity; And the rod of his wrath shall fail.
8अन्याय रोप्ने मानिसले आफन्तको वाली काट्छ अनि उसको अत्याचारी शासनको अन्त हुन्छ।
9He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; For he giveth of his bread to the poor.
9एकजना उदार योग्य मानिसले आशिषू पाउँछ। उसले आशिषू पाउँछ किनभने उसले आफ्नो भोजन गरीबलाई दिन्छ।
10Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out; Yea, strife and ignominy will cease.
10यदि कुनै मानिसले अरूलाई खिसी गर्छ भने उसलाई त्यहाँबाट बल लगाएर निकाली देऊ। जब ऊ मानिस नै हट्छ झगडाहरू जान्छ र अनि लडाईं र अपमानहरू पनि सकिन्छ।
11He that loveth pureness of heart, [For] the grace of his lips the king will be his friend.
11एउटा मानिस जसले शुद्ध हृदयलाई प्रेम गर्छ, जसको बोलीवचन करूणामय हुन्छ, ऊ राजाको मित्र हुनेछ।
12The eyes of Jehovah preserve [him that hath] knowledge; But he overthroweth the words of the treacherous man.
12परमप्रभुले सत्यता माथि पहरा दिनु हुन्छ, अनि अविश्वासी मानिसहरूले भनेका कुराहरूलाई विफल बनाउनु हुन्छ।
13The sluggard saith, There is a lion without: I shall be slain in the streets.
13अलछे मानिसले भन्छ, “सिंह बाहिर बसिरहेको छ,” अथवा “म गल्लीमा मारिनेछु।”
14The mouth of strange women is a deep pit: He that is abhorred of Jehovah shall fall therein.
14व्यभिचारी पापको जाल हो यसर्थ परमप्रभु यस्तो जालमा फँस्नेसित अत्यन्तै क्रोधित हुनुहुन्छ।
15Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child; [But] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
15नानीको मनका मूर्खता रहेको हुन्छ। अनुशसनको डण्डाले यस मूर्खतालाई ऊबाट भगाइन्छ।
16He that oppresseth the poor to increase his [gain], [And] he that giveth to the rich, [shall come] only to want.
16आफ्नो धन बढाउनु जसले गरीबलाई ठग्छ अनि धनी मानिसलाई उपहार चढाउँछ भने ती दुवै जना पछि दरिद्र हुन्छन्।
17Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise, And apply thy heart unto my knowledge.
17राम्रोसंग ध्यान देऊ, म के भन्छु सुन। म तिमीहरूलाई त्यो ज्ञान शिकाउने छु, जुन ज्ञानी मानिसहरूले मलाई दिएका छन्। मैले त्यो शिक्षाहरूबाट सिकें।
18For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee, If they be established together upon thy lips.
18यदि तिमीले यी कुराहरू याद राख्यौ भने असल हुनेछ। यी वचनहरू भन्नु सक्यौ भने तिमीलाई सहायता हुनेछ।
19That thy trust may be in Jehovah, I have made [them] known to thee this day, even to thee.
19अब म तिमीलाई ती कुराहरू नै सिकाउनेछु र म चाहन्छु, कि तिमीले परमप्रभु माथि भरोसा गर।
20Have not I written unto thee excellent things Of counsels and knowledge,
20तिम्रो लागि मैले तीसओटा नीति-वचनहरू लेखेकोछु, यी सबै ज्ञान र उपदेशका वचनहरू हुन्।
21To make thee know the certainty of the words of truth, That thou mayest carry back words of truth to them that send thee?
21यी वचनहरूले सत्य र महत्वपूर्ण कुराहरू सिकाउँछ। तब तिमीलाई जसले पठाउनु भएको छ उहाँलाई सही जवाफ दिन सक्छौ। -1-
22Rob not the poor, because he is poor; Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
22गरीबलाई शोषण नगर किनभने तिनीहरू गरीब छन्, अनि गरीबलाई अदालतमा न्यायबाट बञ्चित नगर
23For Jehovah will plead their cause, And despoil of life those that despoil them.
23परमप्रभुले तिनीहरूको मुद्दाको पक्ष लिनु हुन्छ, अनि उहाँले तिनीहरूको जीवन लिनु हुनेछ जसले उनीहरूलाई लुट्छन र शोषण गर्छन्। -2-
24Make no friendship with a man that is given to anger; And with a wrathful man thou shalt not go:
24झट्टै रिसाउने मानिससित मित्रता नजोड। सितिमिति रिसाउने मानिससित संगत नगर।
25Lest thou learn this ways, And get a snare to thy soul.
25नत्र भने तिमीले उसको बाटो जान्ने छौ र फन्दामा फँस्ने छौ। -3-
26Be thou not one of them that strike hands, [Or] of them that are sureties for debts.
26कहिल्यै कसैको जिम्मवारी लिने नहोऊ अर्काले लिएको ऋणको लागि जमानी नबस्।
27If thou hast not wherewith to pay, Why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
27तिमीले त्यो ऋण चुक्ता गराउनु नसके निमीकहाँ भएको सबै गुमाउनु पर्नेछ। तिमीले आफ्नो ओढने ओछ्याउने सम्म गुमाउनु पर्नेछ। -4-
28Remove not the ancient landmark, Which thy fathers have set.
28तिम्रो जमीन जसमा सिमाना तिम्रा पुर्खाहरूले कोरेका हुन, त्यो सिमाना कहिल्यै हल्लिन नदेऊ। -5-
29Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; He shall not stand before mean men.
29यदि कोही मानिस आफ्नो काममा निपुण छ भने ऊ राजाको सेवा गर्ने योग्यको हुन्छ। उसले नचिनेका मानिसहरूको सेवा गर्दैन। -6-
