¹Then Job answered and said,

¹И отвечал Иов и сказал:

²Of a truth I know that it is so: But how can man be just with God?

²правда! знаю, что так; но как оправдается человек пред Богом?

³If he be pleased to contend with him, He cannot answer him one of a thousand.

³Если захочет вступить в прение с Ним, то не ответит Ему ни на одно из тысячи.

⁴[He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: Who hath hardened himself against him, and prospered?-

⁴Премудр сердцем и могущ силою; кто восставал против Него и оставался в покое?

⁵[Him] that removeth the mountains, and they know it not, When he overturneth them in his anger;

⁵Он передвигает горы, и не узнают их: Он превращает их в гневе Своем;

⁶That shaketh the earth out of its place, And the pillars thereof tremble;

⁶сдвигает землю с места ее, и столбы ее дрожат;

⁷That commandeth the sun, and it riseth not, And sealeth up the stars;

⁷скажет солнцу, – и не взойдет, и на звезды налагает печать.

⁸That alone stretcheth out the heavens, And treadeth upon the waves of the sea;

⁸Он один распростирает небеса и ходит по высотам моря;

⁹That maketh the Bear, Orion, and the Pleiades, And the chambers of the south;

⁹сотворил Ас, Кесиль и Хима и тайники юга;

¹⁰That doeth great things past finding out, Yea, marvellous things without number.

¹⁰делает великое, неисследимое и чудное без числа!

¹¹Lo, he goeth by me, and I see him not: He passeth on also, but I perceive him not.

¹¹Вот, Он пройдет предо мною, и не увижу Его; пронесется и не замечуЕго.

¹²Behold, he seizeth [the prey], who can hinder him? Who will say unto him, What doest thou?

¹²Возьмет, и кто возбранит Ему? кто скажет Ему: что Ты делаешь?

¹³God will not withdraw his anger; The helpers of Rahab do stoop under him.

¹³Бог не отвратит гнева Своего; пред Ним падут поборники гордыни.

¹⁴How much less shall I answer him, And choose out my words [to reason] with him?

¹⁴Тем более могу ли я отвечать Ему и приискивать себе слова пред Ним?

¹⁵Whom, though I were righteous, yet would I not answer; I would make supplication to my judge.

¹⁵Хотя бы я и прав был, но не буду отвечать, а буду умолять Судию моего.

¹⁶If I had called, and he had answered me, Yet would I not believe that he hearkened unto my voice.

¹⁶Если бы я воззвал, и Он ответил мне, – я не поверил бы, что голос мой услышал Тот,

¹⁷For he breaketh me with a tempest, And multiplieth my wounds without cause.

¹⁷Кто в вихре разит меня и умножает безвинно мои раны,

¹⁸He will not suffer me to take my breath, But filleth me with bitterness.

¹⁸не дает мне перевести духа, но пресыщает меня горестями.

¹⁹If [we speak] of strength, lo, [he is] mighty! And if of justice, Who, [saith he], will summon me?

¹⁹Если действовать силою, то Он могуществен; если судом, кто сведет меня с Ним?

²⁰Though I be righteous, mine own mouth shall condemn me: Though I be perfect, it shall prove me perverse.

²⁰Если я буду оправдываться, то мои же уста обвинятменя; если я невинен, то Он признает меня виновным.

²¹I am perfect; I regard not myself; I despise my life.

²¹Невинен я; не хочу знать души моей, презираю жизнь мою.

²²It is all one; therefore I say, He destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.

²²Все одно; поэтому я сказал, что Он губит и непорочного и виновного.

²³If the scourge slay suddenly, He will mock at the trial of the innocent.

²³Если этого поражает Он бичом вдруг, то пытке невинных посмевается.

²⁴The earth is given into the hand of the wicked; He covereth the faces of the judges thereof: If [it be] not [he], who then is it?

²⁴Земля отдана в руки нечестивых; лица судей ее Он закрывает. Если не Он, то кто же?

²⁵Now my days are swifter than a post: They flee away, they see no good,

²⁵Дни мои быстрее гонца, – бегут, не видят добра,

²⁶They are passed away as the swift ships; As the eagle that swoopeth on the prey.

²⁶несутся, как легкие ладьи, как орел стремится на добычу.

²⁷If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will put off my [sad] countenance, and be of good cheer;

²⁷Если сказать мне: забуду я жалобы мои, отложу мрачный вид свой иободрюсь;

²⁸I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.

²⁸то трепещу всех страданий моих, зная, что Ты не объявишь меня невинным.

²⁹I shall be condemned; Why then do I labor in vain?

²⁹Если же я виновен, то для чего напрасно томлюсь?

³⁰If I wash myself with snow water, And make my hands never so clean;

³⁰Хотя бы я омылся и снежною водою и совершенно очистил руки мои,

³¹Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, And mine own clothes shall abhor me.

³¹то и тогда Ты погрузишь меня в грязь, и возгнушаются мною одежды мои.

³²For he is not a man, as I am, that I should answer him, That we should come together in judgment.

³²Ибо Он не человек, как я, чтоб я мог отвечать Ему и идти вместе с Ним на суд!

³³There is no umpire betwixt us, That might lay his hand upon us both.

³³Нет между нами посредника, который положил бы руку свою на обоих нас.

³⁴Let him take his rod away from me, And let not his terror make me afraid:

³⁴Да отстранит Он от меня жезл Свой, и страх Его да не ужасает меня, –

³⁵Then would I speak, and not fear him; For I am not so in myself.

³⁵и тогда я буду говорить и не убоюсь Его, ибо я не таков сам в себе.
