¹A wise son [heareth] his father's instruction; But a scoffer heareth not rebuke.

³He that guardeth his mouth keepeth his life; [But] he that openeth wide his lips shall have destruction.

³Кто хранит уста свои, тот бережет душу свою; а кто широко раскрывает свой рот, тому беда.

⁴The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

⁴Душа ленивого желает, но тщетно; а душа прилежных насытится.

⁵A righteous man hateth lying; But a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

⁵Праведник ненавидит ложное слово, а нечестивый срамит и бесчестит себя .

⁶Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

⁶Правда хранит непорочного в пути, а нечестие губит грешника.

⁷There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth.

⁷Иной выдает себя за богатого, а у него ничего нет; другойвыдает себя за бедного, а у него богатства много.

⁸The ransom of a man's life is his riches; But the poor heareth no threatening.

⁸Богатством своим человек выкупает жизнь свою , а бедный и угрозы не слышит.

⁹The light of the righteous rejoiceth; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

⁹Свет праведных весело горит, светильник же нечестивых угасает.

¹⁰By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom.

¹⁰От высокомерия происходит раздор, а у советующихся – мудрость.

¹¹Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished; But he that gathereth by labor shall have increase.

¹¹Богатство от суетности истощается, а собирающий трудами умножает его.

¹²Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life.

¹²Надежда, долго не сбывающаяся, томит сердце, а исполнившееся желание – как древо жизни.

¹³Whoso despiseth the word bringeth destruction on himself; But he that feareth the commandment shall be rewarded.

¹³Кто пренебрегает словом, тот причиняет вред себе; акто боится заповеди, тому воздается.

¹⁴The law of the wise is a fountain of life, That one may depart from the snares of death.

¹⁴Учение мудрого – источник жизни, удаляющий от сетей смерти.

¹⁵Good understanding giveth favor; But the way of the transgressor is hard.

¹⁵Добрый разум доставляет приятность, путь же беззаконных жесток.

¹⁶Every prudent man worketh with knowledge; But a fool flaunteth [his] folly.

¹⁶Всякий благоразумный действует с знанием, а глупый выставляет напоказ глупость.

¹⁷A wicked messenger falleth into evil; But a faithful ambassador is health.

¹⁷Худой посол попадает в беду, а верный посланник – спасение.

¹⁸Poverty and shame [shall be to] him that refuseth correction; But he that regardeth reproof shall be honored.

¹⁸Нищета и посрамление отвергающему учение; а кто соблюдает наставление, будет в чести.

¹⁹The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.

¹⁹Желание исполнившееся – приятно для души; но несносно для глупых уклоняться от зла.

²⁰Walk with wise men, and thou shalt be wise; But the companion of fools shall smart for it.

²⁰Общающийся с мудрыми будет мудр, а кто дружит с глупыми, развратится.

²¹Evil pursueth sinners; But the righteous shall be recompensed with good.

²¹Грешников преследует зло, а праведникам воздается добром.

²²A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children; And the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the righteous.

²²Добрый оставляет наследство и внукам, а богатство грешника сберегается для праведного.

²³Much food [is in] the tillage of the poor; But there is that is destroyed by reason of injustice.

²³Много хлеба бывает и на ниве бедных; но некоторые гибнут от беспорядка.

²⁴He that spareth his rod hateth his son; But he that loveth him chasteneth him betimes.

²⁴Кто жалеет розги своей, тот ненавидит сына; а кто любит, тот сдетства наказывает его.

²⁵The righteous eateth to the satisfying of his soul; But the belly of the wicked shall want.

²⁵Праведник ест до сытости, а чрево беззаконных терпит лишение.
