¹My brethren, hold not the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ, [the Lord] of glory, with respect of persons.

¹Moji bratia, nemajte viery nášho Pána Ježiša Krista, Pána slávy, v hľadení na osobu.

²For if there come into your synagogue a man with a gold ring, in fine clothing, and there come in also a poor man in vile clothing;

²Lebo keby vošiel do vášho shromaždenia muž so zlatým prsteňom a v nádhernom rúchu, a keby vošiel aj chudobný v špinavom rúchu,

³and ye have regard to him that weareth the fine clothing, and say, Sit thou here in a good place; and ye say to the poor man, Stand thou there, or sit under my footstool;

³a pozreli by ste na toho, ktorý má na sebe to nádherné rúcho, a povedali by ste mu: Ty si pekne sadni tuto, a chudobnému by ste povedali: Ty stoj tamto, alebo sadni si sem pod moju podnož,

⁴Do ye not make distinctions among yourselves, and become judges with evil thoughts?

⁴či nie je tak urobený rozdiel medzi vami, a či ste sa nestali sudcami zlých myšlienok?

⁵Hearken, my beloved brethren; did not God choose them that are poor as to the world [to be] rich in faith, and heirs of the kingdom which he promised to them that love him?

⁵Počujte, moji milovaní bratia! Či si Bôh nevyvolil chudobných tohoto sveta za bohatých vo viere a za dedičov kráľovstva, ktoré zasľúbil tým, ktorí ho milujú?

⁶But ye have dishonored the poor man. Do not the rich oppress you, and themselves drag you before the judgment-seats?

⁶Ale vy ste zneuctili chudobného! Či nie sú to práve bohatí, ktorí vás potláčajú silou a ktorí vás vláčia pred súdy?

⁷Do not they blaspheme the honorable name by which ye are called?

⁷Či nie sú to oni, ktorí sa rúhajú krásnemu a dobrému menu, ktoré bolo vzývané nad vami?

⁸Howbeit if ye fulfil the royal law, according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself, ye do well:

⁸Pravda, ak plníte kráľovský zákon podľa Písma: Milovať budeš svojho blížneho jako samého seba, dobre robíte;

⁹but if ye have respect of persons, ye commit sin, being convicted by the law as transgressors.

⁹ale ak hľadíte na osobu, robíte hriech, a zákon vás kára jako priestupníkov

¹⁰For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one [point], he is become guilty of all.

¹⁰Lebo ten, kto by zachoval celý zákon a klesol by v jednom prikázaní, previnil sa proti všetkým.

¹¹For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou dost not commit adultery, but killest, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

¹¹Lebo ten, kto povedal: Nezcudzoložíš! povedal i: Nezabiješ! ak tedy necudzoložíš, ale vraždíš, si priestupníkom zákona.

¹²So speak ye, and so do, as men that are to be judged by a law of liberty.

¹²Tak hovorte a tak robte jako takí, ktorí máte byť súdení zákonom slobody.

¹³For judgment [is] without mercy to him that hath showed no mercy: mercy glorieth against judgment.

¹³Lebo súd bude nemilosrdný tomu, kto neučinil milosrdenstva. Milosrdenstvo sa chváli proti súdu.

¹⁴What doth it profit, my brethren, if a man say he hath faith, but have not works? can that faith save him?

¹⁴Čo to prospeje, moji bratia, keď niekto hovorí, že má vieru, a nemá skutkov? Či ho azda tá viera môže spasiť?

¹⁵If a brother or sister be naked and in lack of daily food,

¹⁵A keby brat alebo sestra boli nahí a nemali by denného pokrmu,

¹⁶and one of you say unto them, Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; and yet ye give them not the things needful to the body; what doth it profit?

¹⁶A keby im niekto z vás povedal: Iďte v pokoji, zohrejte sa a najedzte sa, a keby ste im nedali toho, čo je potrebné telu, čo to osoží?

¹⁷Even so faith, if it have not works, is dead in itself.

¹⁷Tak aj viera, keď nemá skutkov, je mŕtva sama v sebe.

¹⁸Yea, a man will say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: show me thy faith apart from [thy] works, and I by my works will show thee [my] faith.

¹⁸Ale niekto povie: Ty máš vieru a ja mám skutky. Ukáž mi svoju vieru bez skutkov, a ja ti ukážem svoju vieru zo svojich skutkov.

¹⁹Thou believest that God is one; thou doest well: the demons also believe, and shudder.

¹⁹Ty že veríš, že je jeden Bôh? Dobre robíš. Aj démoni veria a trasú sa.

²⁰But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith apart from works is barren?

²⁰Ale či chceš zvedieť, ó, prázdny človeče, že viera bez skutkov je mŕtva?

²¹Was not Abraham our father justified by works, in that he offered up Isaac his son upon the altar?

²¹Či nebol Abrahám, náš otec, ospravedlnený zo skutkov donesúc obeťou svojho syna Izáka na oltár?

²²Thou seest that faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect;

²²Tedy vidíš, že viera spoluúčinkovala s jeho skutkami a že viera bola dokonaná zo skutkov.

²³and the scripture was fulfilled which saith, And Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness; and he was called the friend of God.

²³A naplnilo sa písmo, ktoré hovorí: Abrahám uveril Bohu, a počítalo sa mu to za spravedlivosť, a bol nazvaný priateľom Božím.

²⁴Ye see that by works a man is justified, and not only by faith.

²⁴Tak teda vidíte, že sa človek ospravedlňuje zo skutkov a nie samo z viery.

²⁵And in like manner was not also Rahab the harlot justified by works, in that she received the messengers, and sent them out another way?

²⁵Tak podobne aj smilnica Rachab, či nebola ospravedlnená zo skutkov, keď prijala poslov a súrne ich vyslala inou cestou?

²⁶For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, even so faith apart from works is dead.

²⁶Lebo jako je telo bez ducha mŕtve, tak je i viera bez skutkov mŕtva.
