¹बैतनिय्याह क लाजर नाउँ क एक ठु मनई बीमार रहा। इ उहइ सहर रहा जहाँ प मरियम अउर ओकर बहिन मार्था रहत रहिन।

¹Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.

²(मरियम उ स्त्री रही जउऩ पर्भू क ऊपर, इतर डाए रही अउर अपने मूँडे क बारे स ओकर गोड़ पोंछे रही। लाजर नाउँ क रोगी ओकर भाई रहा।)

²It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother, Lazarus, was sick.

³इ बहिनियन ईसू क लगे समाचार भेजे रहिन, “पर्भू, जेहिका तू मया करत अहा उ बीमार अहइ।”

³The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”

⁴ईसू जब इ सुनेस तउ बोला, “इ बीमारी जान लेवा नाहीं अहइ। इ तउ परमेस्सर क महिमा परगट करइ क बरे अहइ। इहइ स परमेस्सर क पूत क महिमा मिली।”

⁴But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

⁵(ईसू मार्था ओकर बहिन अउर लाजर क पियार करत रहा)

⁵Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

⁶इ बरे जब उ सुनेस कि लाजर बीमार होइ गवा अहइ, तब जहाँ उ ठहरा रहा, हुवाँ दुइ दिन अउर रूक गवा।

⁶When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.

⁷फिन ईसू अपने चेलन स कहेस, “आवत जा हम सब यहूदिया लौटि चली।”

⁷Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”

⁸इ सुनिके ओकर चेलन कहेन, “गुरू कछू दिन पहेल यहूदी नेता तोहरे ऊपर पथराव करइ क कोसिस करे रहेन अउर तू फिन हुवाँ जात अहा?”

⁸The disciples told him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you, and are you going there again?”

⁹ईसू जवाब दिहेस, “का एक दिन मँ बारह घंटा नाहीं होतेन। जब कउनो मनई दिन क रोसनी मँ चलत ह तउ उ ठोकर नाहीं खात, काहेकि उ इ दुनिया क रोसनी क देखत ह।

⁹Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

¹⁰मुला जदि कउनो रात मँ चलत ह तउ ठोकर खाइ क गिर जात ह, काहेकि रोसनी नाहीं रहत।”

¹⁰ But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

¹¹उ फिन इ कहेस अउर ओनसे बोला, हमार मीत लाजर अबहीं सोवत अहइ मुला मइँ ओका जगावइ जात अहउँ।”

¹¹He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend, Lazarus, has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”

¹²फिन ओकर चेलन ओसे कहेन, “पर्भू, जदि ओका नींद आइ ग अहइ तउ उ नीक होइ जाई।”

¹²The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

¹³ईसू लाजर क मउत क बाबत बतावत रहा मुला ओकर चेलन सोचेन कि उ प्राकृतिक नींद क बारे मँ कहत बाटइ।

¹³Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.

¹⁴इ बरे ईसू ओनसे साफ साफ कहेस, “लाजर मरि गवा अहइ।

¹⁴So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.

¹⁵मइँ तोहरे बरे खुस अहउँ कि मइँ हुवाँ नाहीं रहेउँ। इ बरे कि अब तू पचे मोरे मँ बिसवास करि सकत ह। आवा अब हम ओकरे पास चली।”

¹⁵ I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”

¹⁶फिन थोमा, जेका लोग दिदुमुस कहत रहेन, दूसरे चेलन स कहेस, “आवा हमहूँ सबइ पर्भू क पास चली जइसे कि हमहूँ सबे उहइ क साथे मर सकी।”

¹⁶Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, “Didymus” means “Twin” said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go also, that we may die with him.”

¹⁷इ तरह स ईसू चला गवा अउर हुवाँ जाइके उ पाएस कि लाजर क कब्र मँ रखे चार दिन होइ चुका रहेन।

¹⁷So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

¹⁸(बैतनिय्याह यरूसलेम स करीब तीन किलोमीटर दूर रहा।)

¹⁸Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia 15 stadia is about 2.8 kilometers or 1.7 miles away.

¹⁹भाई क मउत पर मार्था अउर मरियम क तसल्ली दियावइ क बरे अउर तमाम यहूदी नेता आवा रहेन।

¹⁹Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

²⁰जब मार्था सुनेस कि ईसू आवा अहइ तउ उ ओसे मिलइ क बास्ते गइ। जबकि मरियम घरे मँ रूकी रही

²⁰Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.

²¹हुआँ जाइके तब मार्था ईसू स कहेस, “पर्भू, जदि तू हियाँ होत्या तउ मोर भाई न मरत।

²¹Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.

²²मुला मइँ जानत अहउँ कि तू अबहूँ अगर परमेस्सर स जउऩ कछू मँगब्या, उ तोहका देई।”

²²Even now I know that, whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

²³ईसू ओसे कहेस, तोहार भाई जी उठी।”

²³Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

²⁴मार्था ओसे कहेस, “मइँ जानित ह कि पुनरूत्थान क आखिरी दिन लोग जिवावा जइहीं।”

²⁴Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

²⁵ईसू ओसे कहेस, “मइँ पुनरूत्थान क अहउँ मइँ जीवन अहउँ जउऩ मनई मोहमाँ बिसवास करत ह, जी उठी।

²⁵Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.

²⁶अउर उ मनई जउन जियत ह अउर मोहमाँ बिसवास करत ह, कबहूँ न मरी। का तू ऍहमा बिसवास करति अहा?”

²⁶ Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

²⁷उ ईसू स बोली, “हाँ पर्भू, मइँ बिसवास करित ह कि तू मसीह अह्या, उहइ परमेस्सर क पूत, जउन इ दुनिया मँ आवइवाला रहा।”

²⁷She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”

²⁸फिन ऍतना कहिके उ हुवाँ स चली गइ अउर अपने बहन क अकेले मँ बोलाइके बोली, “गुरू हियाँ अहइ, अउर तोहका बोलावत अहइ।”

²⁸When she had said this, she went away, and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here, and is calling you.”

²⁹जब मरियम इ सुनेस तउ उ तुरन्त उठिके ओसे मिलइ क चलि दिहेस।

²⁹When she heard this, she arose quickly, and went to him.

³⁰ईसू अबहुँ तलक गाँव मँ नाहीं आवा रहा। अबहीं उ उहइ जगह रहा जहाँ मार्था ओसे मिली रही।

³⁰Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.

³¹फिन जउन यहूदी घरे प ओका तसल्ली देत रहेन, जब मरियम क झटपट उठिके जात देखेन तउ इ सोचेन कि उ कब्र प रोवइ क बरे जात अहइ, इ बरे उ पचे ओकरे पीछे चल दिहेन।

³¹Then the Jews who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

³²मरियम जब हुवाँ पहुँची, जहाँ ईसू रहा तउ ईसू क देखिके ओकरे गोड़े प गिर पड़ी अउर बोली, “पर्भू जदि तू हियाँ होत्या तउ मोर भाई न मरत।”

³²Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”

³³ईसू जब ओका अउर ओकरे साथ आए रहेन यहूदियन क रोअत चिल्लात देखेस तउ ओकर आतिमा तड़पइ अउर उ बहुत ब्याकुल होइ लाग। उ बहुत घबराइ गवा।

³³When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews weeping who came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

³⁴अउर बोला, “तू ओका कहाँ रखे अहा? उ पचे ओसे बोलेन्ह, “पर्भू आवा अउर देखा।”

³⁴and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”

³⁵ईसू क फूटि फूटिके रोवइ लाग।

³⁵Jesus wept.

³⁶इ देखिके यहूदी कहइ लागेन, “देख! इ लाजर क बहोत पियार करत ह!”

³⁶The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”

³⁷मुला ओहमाँ स कछू लोग कहेन, “इ मनई जउऩ आँधरे क आँखी दिहेस, का लाजर क मरइ स बचाइ नाहीं सकत?”

³⁷Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”

³⁸तउ ईसू अपने मन मँ एक दाई फिन विचलित होइ गवा अउर कब्र कइँती गवा। उ एक गुफा रही अउर ओकर दरवाजा एक ठु चटूटान स ढका रहा।

³⁸Jesus therefore, again groaning in himself, came to the tomb. Now it was a cave, and a stone lay against it.

³⁹ईसू कहेस, “इ चटूटान क हटावा।” जउऩ मनई मरा रहा, ओकर बहिन मार्था कहेस, “पर्भू अब तलक तउ हुवाँ स गन्ध आवइ लाग, काहेकि ओका दफनाए चार दिन होइ गएन।”

³⁹Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

⁴⁰ईसू ओसे कहेस, “का मइँ तोह कहे नाहीं कि जदि तू बिसवास करबू तउ परमेस्सर क महिमा का दर्सन पउबू।”

⁴⁰Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”

⁴¹तउ उ पचे उ चट्टान क हटाय दिहेन। अउर ईसू आपन आँखी ऊपर उठाइके कहेस, “परमपिता, मइँ तोहार धन्यबाद करत अहउँ, इ बरे कि तू मोर सुनि लिहा।

⁴¹So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. NU omits “from the place where the dead man was lying.” Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.

⁴²मइँ जानित ह कि तू हमेसा मोर बात सुनि लेत ह मुला मइँ हियाँ चारिउँ तरफ इकट्ठा भीड़ स कहे अही जइसे लोग बिसवास कइ लेइ कि मोका तू भेजे अहा।”

⁴² I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude that stands around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”

⁴³इ कहिके उ बड़े जोर की आवाज दइके बोलाएस, “लाजर बाहर आइ जा!”

⁴³When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

⁴⁴उ मनइ जउन मरि ग रहा, बाहर आइ गवा। ओकर हाथ गोड़ अबहुँ तक कफन स बंधा रहेन। ओकर मुँह कपरा स लिपटा रहा। ईसू ओऩ लोगन स कहेस, “एका खोल द्या अउर जाइ द्या।”

⁴⁴He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”

⁴⁵एकरे बाद मरियम क साथ आए यहूदियन मँ स तमाम ईसू क इ काम देखिके ओह प बिसवास करइ लागेन।

⁴⁵Therefore many of the Jews, who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did, believed in him.

⁴⁶मुला ओहमाँ स कछू फरीसियन क लगे गएन अउर जउऩ कछू ईसू करे रहा, ओऩका बताएऩ।

⁴⁶But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.

⁴⁷फिन मुख्याजकन अउर फरीसियन यहूदी महासभा क बैठक बोलाएन अउर कहेन, “हमका सबेन्ह क अब का करइ चाही? इ मनई बहुत अद्भुत कारजन देखॅावत अहइ।

⁴⁷The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.

⁴⁸अगर हम पचे एका अइसे करइ देब तउ ओकरे ऊपर सब बिसवास करइ लगिहइँ अउर इ तरह स रोमी लोग हियाँ आइ जइहीं अउर हमरे मन्दिर क अउर हमरे देस क बरबाद कइ देई।”

⁴⁸If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

⁴⁹मुला उ साल क मुख्ययाजक काइफा ओऩसे कहेस, “तू पचे कछू नाहीं जानत अह।

⁴⁹But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

⁵⁰अउर तोहका सबेन्ह क इहउ समझ नाहीं अहइ कि इहइ करइ मँ तोहार फायदा अहइ, अपनी सारी जात क बचावइ क बरे सबके फायदे क बरे एक मनई क मारइ क होई।”

⁵⁰nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”

⁵¹इ बात उ अपनी तरफ स नाहीं कहे रहा, मुला उ साल क मुख्ययाजक होइ क नाते इ भविस्सबाणी किहे रहा, कि ईसू यहूदी रास्ट्र क बरे मरइ जात अहइ,

⁵¹Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

⁵²केवल यहूदी रास्ट्र क बरे नाहीं बल्कि परमेस्सर क सन्तान क बरे जउन तितर-बितर अहइ ओनका इदट्ठा करइ क बदे।

⁵²and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

⁵³इ तरह स उही दिन स उ पचे ईसू क मारइ क साजिस करइ लागेन।

⁵³So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.

⁵⁴ईसू फिन यहूदियन क बीच मँ खुलके नाहीं आवा अउर यरूसलेम छोड़के उ निरजन रेगिस्तान क लगे इफ्राईम सहर जाइके अपने चेलन क साथे रहइ लाग।

⁵⁴Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews, but departed from there into the country near the wilderness, to a city called Ephraim. He stayed there with his disciples.

⁵⁵यहूदियन क फसह क त्यौहार आवइवाला रहा। तमाम मनई अपने अपने गाँव स यरूसलेम चला गएन, जइसे कि फ़सह क त्यौहार क पहले खुद क पवित्तर कइ लेइँ।

⁵⁵Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

⁵⁶उ पचे ईसू क खोजत रहेन। इ बरे जदि उ सबेन्ह मन्दिर मँ खड़ा रहेन तउ आपस मँ एक दूसरे स पूछब, सुरू करेन्ह, “तू सबेन्ह का सोचत अहा, का उ इ त्यौहार मँ न आई?”

⁵⁶Then they sought for Jesus and spoke one with another, as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”

⁵⁷फिन मुख्ययाजकन अउर फरिसियन इ आदेस दिहेन कि कउनो क एकर पता लगावा जाइ कि क कउनो जानत ह कि ईसू कहाँ अहइ, तो उ बताइ देइ, जेहसे कि उ ओका बन्दी बनाइ सकइँ।

⁵⁷Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
