1Tko ljubi pouku, ljubi znanje, a tko mrzi ukor, lud je.
1Whoso loveth discipline loveth knowledge, but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
2Dobar dobiva milost od Jahve, a podmukao osudu.
2A good [man] obtaineth favour of Jehovah; but a man of mischievous devices will he condemn.
3Zloćom se čovjek ne utvrđuje, a korijen se pravedniku ne pomiče.
3A man shall not be established by wickedness; but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
4Kreposna je žena vijenac mužu svojemu, a sramotna mu je kao gnjilež u kostima.
4A woman of worth is a crown to her husband; but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
5Pravedničke su misli pravične, spletke opakih prijevarne.
5The thoughts of the righteous are right; the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
6Riječi opakih pogubne su zamke, a pravedne izbavljaju usta njihova.
6The words of the wicked are a lying-in-wait for blood; but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
7Opaki se ruše i nema ih više, a kuća pravednika ostaje.
7Overthrow the wicked, and they are no [more]; but the house of the righteous shall stand.
8Čovjek se hvali po oštrini svoga razuma, a prezire se tko je opak srcem.
8A man is commended according to his wisdom; but he that is of a perverted heart shall be despised.
9Bolje je biti malen i imati samo jednog slugu nego se hvastati a nemati ni kruha.
9Better is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
10Pravednik pazi i na život svog živinčeta, dok je opakomu srce okrutno.
10A righteous man is concerned for the life of his beast; but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
11Tko obrađuje svoju zemlju, sit je kruha, a tko trči za ništavilom, nerazuman je.
11He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread; but he that followeth the worthless is void of understanding.
12Čežnja je opakoga mreža od zala, a korijen pravednika daje ploda.
12The wicked desireth the net of evil [men]; but the root of the righteous yieldeth [fruit].
13Opakomu je zamka grijeh njegovih usana, a pravednik se izbavlja od tjeskobe.
13In the transgression of the lips is an evil snare; but a righteous [man] shall go forth out of trouble.
14Od ploda svojih usta nasitit će se svatko obilno, a ono što je rukama učinio vratit će mu se.
14A man is satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; and the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
15Luđaku se čini pravim njegov put, a mudar čovjek sluša savjete.
15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; but he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.
16Luđak odmah odaje svoj bijes, a pametan pokriva sramotu.
16The vexation of the fool is presently known; but a prudent [man] covereth shame.
17Tko govori istinu, otkriva što je pravo, a lažljiv svjedok prijevaru.
17He that uttereth truth sheweth forth righteousness; but a false witness deceit.
18Nesmotren govori kao da mačem probada, a jezik je mudrih iscjeljenje.
18There is that babbleth like the piercings of a sword; but the tongue of the wise is health.
19Istinita usta traju dovijeka, a lažljiv jezik samo za čas.
19The lip of truth shall be established for ever; but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
20Prijevara je u srcu onih koji snuju zlo, a veselje u onih koji dijele miroljubive savjete.
20Deceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; but to the counsellors of peace is joy.
21Pravednika ne stiže nikakva nevolja, a opaki u zlu grcaju.
21There shall no evil happen to a righteous [man]; but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
22Mrske su Jahvi usne lažljive, a mili su mu koji zbore istinu.
22Lying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; but they that deal truly are his delight.
23Promišljen čovjek prikriva svoje znanje, a srce bezumničko razglašuje svoju ludost.
23A prudent man concealeth knowledge; but the heart of the foolish proclaimeth folly.
24Marljiva ruka vlada, a nemar vodi u podložnost.
24The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; but the slothful [hand] shall be under tribute.
25Briga u srcu pritiskuje čovjeka, a blaga riječ veseli ga.
25Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop; but a good word maketh it glad.
26Pravednik vodi svojeg prijatelja, a opake zavodi njihov put.
26The righteous guideth his neighbour; but the way of the wicked misleadeth them.
27Nemaran ne ulovi svoje lovine, a marljivost je čovjeku blago dragocjeno.
27The slothful roasteth not what he took in hunting; but man's precious substance is to the diligent.
28Na stazi pravice stoji život i na njezinu putu nema smrti.
28In the path of righteousness is life, and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
