20

1Vino je podsmjevač, žestoko piće bukač, i tko se njima odaje neće steći mudrosti.
1Wine is a scorner, strong drink is raging; and whoso erreth thereby is not wise.
2Kraljev je gnjev kao rika lavlja: tko ga izaziva, griješi protiv sebe samog.
2The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion: he that provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own soul.
3Čast je čovjeku ustegnuti se od raspre, a tko je bezuman počinje svađu.
3It is an honour for a man to cease from strife; but every fool rusheth into it.
4Lijenčina u jesen ne ore: u doba žetve on traži, i ništa nema.
4The sluggard will not plough by reason of the winter; he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.
5Savjet je u srcu čovječjem voda duboka i razuman će je čovjek iscrpsti.
5Counsel in the heart of man is deep water, and a man of understanding draweth it out.
6Mnogi se naziva dobrim čovjekom, ali tko će naći vjerna čovjeka?
6Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness; but a faithful man who shall find?
7Pravednik hodi u bezazlenosti svojoj: blago sinovima njegovim poslije njega!
7The righteous walketh in his integrity: blessed are his children after him!
8Kralj koji sjedi na stolici sudačkoj istražuje svako zlo svojim očima.
8A king sitting on the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.
9Tko može reći: "Očistih srce svoje, oprah se od grijeha svoga?"
9Who can say, I have made my heart clean, I am pure from my sin?
10Dvojaki utezi i dvojaka mjera mrski su Jahvi podjednako.
10Divers weights, divers measures, even both of them are abomination to Jehovah.
11I dijete se poznaje po onome što čini, je li čisto i pravedno djelo njegovo.
11Even a child is known by his doings, whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.
12I uho koje čuje i oko koje vidi, oboje je Jahve načinio.
12The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, Jehovah hath made even both of them.
13Ne ljubi sna, da ne osiromašiš; otvori oči svoje i nasitit ćeš se kruha.
13Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty; open thine eyes, [and] thou shalt be satisfied with bread.
14"Loše, loše", govori kupac, a kad ode, hvali se dobrom kupovinom.
14Bad! bad! saith the buyer; but when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.
15Ima zlata i mnogih bisera, ali su mudre usne najdragocjeniji nakit.
15There is gold, and a multitude of rubies; but the lips of knowledge are a precious Jewel.
16Uzmi haljinu onomu tko je jamčio za drugoga; oplijeni njega umjesto tuđinca.
16Take his garment that is become surety [for] another, and hold him in pledge for strangers.
17Sladak je čovjeku kruh prijevare, ali mu se usta poslije napune pijeskom.
17Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man, but afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.
18Naumi se provode savjetom: zato dobro razmisli pa vodi boj!
18Plans are established by counsel; and with good advice make war.
19Tko okolo kleveće, otkriva tajne: zato se ne miješaj s onim komu su usne uvijek otvorene.
19He that goeth about talebearing revealeth secrets; therefore meddle not with him that openeth his lips.
20Tko kune oca svoga i majku svoju svjetiljka mu se gasi usred tmine.
20Whoso curseth his father or his mother, his lamp shall be put out in the blackest darkness.
21Od početka brzo stečeno imanje na koncu nije blagoslovljeno.
21An inheritance obtained hastily at the beginning will not be blessed in the end.
22Nemoj govoriti: "Osvetit ću se za zlo"; čekaj Jahvu, i on će te spasiti.
22Say not, I will recompense evil: wait on Jehovah, and he shall save thee.
23Mrski su Jahvi dvojaki utezi, i kriva mjera ne valja.
23Divers weights are an abomination unto Jehovah; and a false balance is not good.
24Od Jahve su koraci čovječji, i kako da čovjek razumije svoj put?
24The steps of a man are from Jehovah; and how can a man understand his own way?
25Zamka je čovjeku nesmotreno reći: "Ovo je sveto", a poslije promišljati što je zavjetovao.
25It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is hallowed, and after vows to make inquiry.
26Mudar kralj umije izlučiti opake i stavlja ih pod točkove.
26A wise king scattereth the wicked, and bringeth the wheel over them.
27Svjetiljka je Gospodnja duh čovječji: ona istražuje sve do dna utrobe.
27Man's spirit is the lamp of Jehovah, searching all the inner parts of the belly.
28Dobrota i vjernost čuvaju kralja, jer dobrotom utvrđuje prijestol svoj.
28Mercy and truth preserve the king; and he upholdeth his throne by mercy.
29Ljepota je mladićima njihova snaga, a starcima je ures sijeda kosa.
29The glory of young men is their strength; and the beauty of old men is the grey head.
30Krvave masnice očiste zlo i udarci pročiste odaje utrobe.
30Wounding stripes purge away evil, and strokes [purge] the inner parts of the belly.
