1Slušajte, djeco, pouku očevu i pazite kako biste spoznali mudrost,
1Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, and attend to know intelligence;
2jer dobar vam nauk dajem: ne prezrite moga naputka.
2for I give you good doctrine: forsake ye not my law.
3I ja sam bio sin u svoga oca i nježan jedinac u svoje matere;
3For I was a son unto my father, tender and an only one in the sight of my mother.
4i mene je on učio i govorio mi: "Zadrži moje riječi u svojem srcu, poštuj moje zapovijedi i živjet ćeš.
4And he taught me, and said unto me, Let thy heart retain my words; keep my commandments and live.
5Steci mudrost, steci razbor, ne smeći ih s uma i ne odstupi od riječi mojih usta.
5Get wisdom, get intelligence: forget [it] not; neither decline from the words of my mouth.
6Ne ostavljaj je i čuvat će te; ljubi je i obranit će te.
6Forsake her not, and she shall keep thee; love her, and she shall preserve thee.
7Početak je mudrosti: steci sebi mudrost i svim svojim imanjem steci razboritost.
7The beginning of wisdom [is], Get wisdom; and with all thy getting get intelligence.
8Veličaj je i uzvisit će te; donijet će ti čast kad je prigrliš.
8Exalt her, and she shall promote thee; she shall bring thee to honour when thou dost embrace her.
9Stavit će ti ljupki vijenac na glavu, i obdarit će te krasnom krunom."
9She shall give to thy head a garland of grace; a crown of glory will she bestow upon thee.
10Poslušaj, sine moj, primi moje riječi i umnožit će se godine tvojeg života.
10Hear, my son, and receive my sayings, and the years of thy life shall be multiplied.
11Poučih te putu mudrosti, navratih te na prave staze;
11I will teach thee in the way of wisdom, I will lead thee in paths of uprightness.
12neće ti se zapletati koraci kad staneš hoditi; potrčiš li, nećeš posrnuti.
12When thou goest, thy steps shall not be straitened; and when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
13Čvrsto se drži pouke, ne puštaj je, čuvaj je, jer ona ti je život.
13Take fast hold of instruction, let [her] not go: keep her, for she is thy life.
14Ne idi stazom opakih i ne stupaj putem zlikovaca.
14Enter not into the path of the wicked, and go not in the way of evil [men]:
15Ostavi ga, ne hodi njime; kloni ga se i zaobiđi ga.
15avoid it, pass not by it; turn from it, and pass away.
16Jer oni ne spavaju ako ne učine zla, i san im ne dolazi ako koga ne obore.
16For they sleep not except they have done mischief, and their sleep is taken away unless they have caused [some] to fall.
17Jer jedu kruh opačine i piju vino nasilja.
17For they eat the bread of wickedness, and drink the wine of violence.
18A pravednička je staza kao svjetlost svanuća, koja je sve jasnija do potpunog dana.
18But the path of the righteous is as the shining light, going on and brightening until the day be fully come.
19A put je opakih kao mrkli mrak: ne znaju o što će se spotaknuti.
19The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.
20Sine moj, pazi na moje riječi, prigni uho svoje mojim besjedama.
20My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.
21Ne gubi ih nikad iz očiju, pohrani ih usred srca svoga.
21Let them not depart from thine eyes; keep them in the midst of thy heart.
22Jer su život onima koji ih nalaze i ozdravljenje svemu tijelu njihovu.
22For they are life unto those that find them, and health to all their flesh.
23A svrh svega, čuvaj svoje srce, jer iz njega izvire život.
23Keep thy heart more than anything that is guarded; for out of it are the issues of life.
24Drži daleko od sebe lažna usta i udalji od sebe usne prijevarne.
24Put away from thee perverseness of mouth, and corrupt lips put far from thee.
25Nek' tvoje oči gledaju u lice i neka ti je pogled uvijek prav.
25Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.
26Pazi na stazu kojom kročiš i neka ti svi putovi budu pouzdani.
26Ponder the path of thy feet, and let all thy ways be well-ordered.
27Ne skreći ni desno ni lijevo, drži svoj korak daleko oda zla.
27Turn not to the right hand nor to the left; remove thy foot from evil.
