1 Unwaith eto ystyriais yr holl orthrymderau sy'n digwydd dan yr haul. Gwelais ddagrau y rhai a orthrymwyd, ac nid oedd neb i'w cysuro; yr oedd nerth o blaid eu gorthrymwyr, ac nid oedd neb i'w cysuro.
1So I returned, and considered all the oppressions that are done under the sun: and behold the tears of such as were oppressed, and they had no comforter; and on the side of their oppressors there was power; but they had no comforter.
2 Yna deuthum i'r casgliad ei bod yn well ar y rhai sydd eisoes wedi marw na'r rhai sy'n dal yn fyw.
2Wherefore I praised the dead which are already dead more than the living which are yet alive.
3 Ond gwell na'r ddau yw'r rhai sydd eto heb eu geni, ac sydd heb weld y drwg a wneir dan yr haul.
3Yea, better is he than both they, which hath not yet been, who hath not seen the evil work that is done under the sun.
4 Hefyd sylwais ar yr holl lafur a medr mewn gwaith, ei fod yn codi o genfigen rhwng rhywun a'i gymydog. Y mae hyn hefyd yn wagedd ac yn ymlid gwynt.
4Again, I considered all travail, and every right work, that for this a man is envied of his neighbour. This is also vanity and vexation of spirit.
5 Y mae'r ff�l yn plethu ei ddwylo, ac yn ei ddifa'i hun.
5The fool foldeth his hands together, and eateth his own flesh.
6 Gwell yw llond un llaw mewn llonyddwch na llond dwy law mewn gofid ac ymlid gwynt.
6Better is an handful with quietness, than both the hands full with travail and vexation of spirit.
7 Unwaith eto gwelais y gwagedd sydd dan yr haul:
7Then I returned, and I saw vanity under the sun.
8 rhywun unig heb fod ganddo na chyfaill, na mab na brawd; nid oes diwedd ar ei holl lafur, eto nid yw cyfoeth yn rhoi boddhad iddo. Nid yw'n gofyn, "I bwy yr wyf yn llafurio, ac yn fy amddifadu fy hun o bleser?" Y mae hyn hefyd yn wagedd ac yn orchwyl diflas.
8There is one alone, and there is not a second; yea, he hath neither child nor brother: yet is there no end of all his labour; neither is his eye satisfied with riches; neither saith he, For whom do I labour, and bereave my soul of good? This is also vanity, yea, it is a sore travail.
9 Y mae dau yn well nag un, oherwydd y maent yn cael t�l da am eu llafur;
9Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.
10 os bydd y naill yn syrthio, y mae'r llall yn gallu ei godi, ond gwae'r un sydd ar ei ben ei hun; pan yw'n syrthio, nid oes ganddo neb i'w godi.
10For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.
11 Hefyd os bydd dau yn gorwedd gyda'i gilydd, y mae'r naill yn cadw'r llall yn gynnes; ond sut y gall un gadw'n gynnes ar ei ben ei hun?
11Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?
12 Er y gellir trechu un, y mae dau yn gallu gwrthsefyll. Ni ellir torri rhaff deircainc ar frys.
12And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.
13 Y mae bachgen tlawd, ond doeth, yn well na brenin hen a ff�l, nad yw bellach yn gwybod sut i dderbyn cyngor.
13Better is a poor and a wise child than an old and foolish king, who will no more be admonished.
14 Yn wir, gall un ddod allan o garchar i fod yn frenin, er iddo gael ei eni'n dlawd yn ei deyrnas.
14For out of prison he cometh to reign; whereas also he that is born in his kingdom becometh poor.
15 Gwelais bawb oedd yn byw ac yn rhodio dan yr haul yn dilyn y bachgen oedd yn lle'r brenin.
15I considered all the living which walk under the sun, with the second child that shall stand up in his stead.
16 Nid oedd terfyn ar yr holl bobl, ac yr oedd ef yn ben arnynt i gyd; ond nid oedd y rhai a ddaeth ar ei �l yn ymhyfrydu ynddo. Yn wir, y mae hyn hefyd yn wagedd ac yn ymlid gwynt.
16There is no end of all the people, even of all that have been before them: they also that come after shall not rejoice in him. Surely this also is vanity and vexation of spirit.
