1 Pan glywodd Sanbalat a Tobeia a Gesem yr Arabiad a'r gweddill o'n gelynion fy mod wedi ailgodi'r mur ac nad oedd yr un bwlch ar l ynddo er nad oeddwn y pryd hwnnw wedi gosod dorau ar y pyrth
1And it came to pass when Sanballat, and Tobijah, and Geshem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it (though at that time I had not set up the doors in the gates),
2 fe anfonodd Sanbalat a Gesem ataf a dweud, "Tyrd i'n cyfarfod yn un o'r pentrefi yn nyffryn Ono." Ond eu bwriad oedd gwneud niwed imi.
2that Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, Come, let us meet together in the villages in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.
3 Anfonais negeswyr atynt gyda'r ateb, "Y mae gennyf waith pwysig ar dro, felly ni allaf ddod i lawr. Pam y dylai'r gwaith gael ei atal tra wyf fi yn ei adael ac yn dod i lawr atoch chwi?"
3And I sent messengers to them, saying, I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down. Why should the work cease, whilst I leave it and come down to you?
4 Anfonasant ataf i'r un perwyl bedair gwaith, a phob tro rhoddais yr un ateb.
4And they sent to me four times after this sort; and I answered them in the same manner.
5 Y pumed tro anfonodd Sanbalat ei was ei hun ataf gyda llythyr agored
5Then sent Sanballat his servant to me in this manner the fifth time, with an open letter in his hand,
6 yn cynnwys y neges hon: "Yn l Gasmu y mae si ymysg y cenhedloedd dy fod ti a'r Iddewon yn bwriadu gwrthryfela, ac mai dyna pam yr wyt yn ailgodi'r mur. Dywedir hefyd dy fod ti dy hun am fod yn frenin arnynt,
6in which was written: It is reported among the nations, and Gashmu says [it, that] thou and the Jews think to rebel, for which cause thou buildest the wall, and according to these words thou wilt become their king.
7 a'th fod wedi penodi proffwydi i gyhoeddi yn Jerwsalem a dweud, 'Y mae brenin yn Jwda.' Bydd y brenin yn sicr o glywed am hyn; felly tyrd, a gad i ni ymgynghori 'n gilydd."
7And thou hast also appointed prophets to proclaim concerning thee at Jerusalem saying, There is a king in Judah! And now it will be reported to the king according to these words. Come now therefore, and let us take counsel together.
8 Anfonais air yn l ato a dweud, "Nid yw'r hyn a ddywedi di yn wir; ti dy hun sydd wedi ei ddychmygu."
8And I sent to him, saying, There are no such things done as thou sayest, but thou feignest them out of thine own heart.
9 Yr oeddent oll yn ceisio'n dychryn, gan dybio y byddem yn digalonni, ac na fyddai'r gwaith yn cael ei orffen. Ond yn awr cryfha fi!
9For they all would have made us afraid, saying, Their hands shall be slackened from the work, that it be not carried out. -- Now therefore strengthen my hands!
10 Pan euthum i du375? Semaia fab Delaia, fab Mehetabel, oedd wedi ei gaethiwo i'w gartref, dywedodd wrthyf, "Gad i ni gyfarfod yn nhu375? Dduw, y tu mewn i'r cysegr, a chau drysau'r deml, oherwydd y maent yn dod i'th ladd, yn dod i'th ladd liw nos."
10And I came to the house of Shemaiah the son of Delaiah, the son of Mehetabeel, who had shut himself up. And he said, Let us meet together in the house of God, within the temple, and let us shut the doors of the temple; for they are coming to kill thee; even in the night are they coming to kill thee.
11 Atebais innau, "A ddylai dyn fel fi ffoi? A yw un fel fi i fynd i mewn i'r deml er mwyn achub ei fywyd? Nid af i mewn."
11And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, could go into the temple, and live? I will not go in.
12 Yna sylweddolais nad Duw oedd wedi ei anfon, ond ei fod wedi proffwydo fel hyn yn ein herbyn am fod Tobeia a Sanbalat wedi ei lwgrwobrwyo.
12And I perceived, and behold, God had not sent him; for he pronounced this prophecy against me; and Tobijah and Sanballat had hired him.
13 Yr oedd wedi cael ei dalu i godi ofn arnaf a pheri imi bechu trwy wneud hyn; yna fe gaent esgus i roi enw drwg imi, a'm gwaradwyddo.
13Therefore was he hired, that I should be afraid, and do so, and sin, and that they might have wherewith to spread an evil report, that they might reproach me.
14 Fy Nuw, cofia Tobeia a Sanbalat am iddynt wneud hyn, a hefyd Noadeia y broffwydes a'r proffwydi eraill oedd am fy nychryn.
14My God, remember Tobijah and Sanballat according to these their works, and also the prophetess Noadiah, and the rest of the prophets who would have put me in fear.
15 Gorffennwyd y mur mewn deuddeg diwrnod a deugain, ar y pumed ar hugain o Elul.
15So the wall was finished on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty-two days.
16 Pan glywodd ein holl elynion, a phan welodd yr holl genhedloedd o'n hamgylch, yr oedd y peth yn rhyfeddol yn eu golwg, a daethant i ddeall mai trwy gymorth ein Duw y cafodd y gwaith hwn ei wneud.
16And it came to pass that when all our enemies heard [of it], all the nations that were about us were afraid and were much cast down in their own eyes, and they perceived that this work was wrought by our God.
17 Yn ystod y cyfnod hwn anfonodd pendefigion Jwda nifer o lythyrau at Tobeia, a daeth llythyrau oddi wrth Tobeia atynt hwythau;
17Moreover in those days the nobles of Judah sent many letters to Tobijah, and those of Tobijah came to them.
18 oherwydd yr oedd llawer yn Jwda mewn cynghrair ag ef am ei fod yn fab-yng-nghyfraith i Sechaneia fab Ara, a'i fab Jehohanan wedi priodi merch Mesulam fab Berecheia.
18For there were many in Judah sworn to him; for he was a son-in-law of Shechaniah the son of Arah; and his son Johanan had taken the daughter of Meshullam the son of Berechiah.
19 Byddent yn sn wrthyf am ei ragoriaethau ac yn ailadrodd fy ngeiriau innau wrtho ef. Ysgrifennodd Tobeia hefyd lythyrau ataf i'm dychryn.
19Also they spoke of his good deeds before me, and reported my words to him. [And] Tobijah sent letters to put me in fear.
