1 Chronicles

19

1 Wedi hyn bu farw Nahas brenin yr Ammoniaid, a daeth ei fab yn frenin yn ei le.
1It happened after this, that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon died, and his son reigned in his place.
2 Dywedodd Dafydd, "Gwnaf garedigrwydd Hanun fab Nahas, fel y gwnaeth ei dad mi." Felly anfonodd negeswyr i'w gysuro am ei dad. Ond pan ddaeth gweision Dafydd i wlad yr Ammoniaid at Hanun i'w gysuro,
2David said, “I will show kindness to Hanun the son of Nahash, because his father showed kindness to me.” So David sent messengers to comfort him concerning his father. David’s servants came into the land of the children of Ammon to Hanun, to comfort him.
3 dywedodd tywysogion yr Ammoniaid wrth Hanun, "A wyt ti'n tybio mai anrhydeddu dy dad y mae Dafydd wrth anfon cysurwyr atat? Onid er mwyn chwilio'r wlad a'i hysbo a'i goresgyn y daeth ei weision atat?"
3But the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, “Do you think that David honors your father, in that he has sent comforters to you? Haven’t his servants come to you to search, to overthrow, and to spy out the land?”
4 Yna cymerodd Hanun weision Dafydd a'u heillio, a thorri gwisg pob un yn ei hanner hyd at ei gluniau, a'u hanfon hwy ymaith.
4So Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away.
5 Pan ddywedwyd wrth Ddafydd am y dynion, fe anfonodd rai i'w cyfarfod, am fod cywilydd mawr arnynt, a dweud wrthynt am aros yn Jericho a pheidio dychwelyd nes y byddai eu barfau wedi tyfu.
5Then there went certain persons, and told David how the men were served. He sent to meet them; for the men were greatly ashamed. The king said, “Stay at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return.”
6 Pan welsant eu bod yn ffiaidd gan Ddafydd, anfonodd Hanun a'r Ammoniaid fil o dalentau arian i gyflogi cerbydau a marchogion o Mesopotamia, Syria-maacha a Soba.
6When the children of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the children of Ammon sent one thousand talents of silver to hire them chariots and horsemen out of Mesopotamia, and out of Arammaacah, and out of Zobah.
7 Cyflogasant ddeuddeng mil ar hugain o gerbydau, yn ogystal brenin Maacha a'i fyddin, a daethant i wersyllu o flaen Medeba. Ymgasglodd yr Ammoniaid hefyd o'u dinasoedd a dod allan i ryfel.
7So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people, who came and encamped before Medeba. The children of Ammon gathered themselves together from their cities, and came to battle.
8 Pan glywodd Dafydd, anfonodd Joab allan gyda'r holl fyddin a'r milwyr.
8When David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men.
9 Daeth yr Ammoniaid allan a ffurfio rhengoedd ar gyfer y frwydr ger porth y ddinas, ac yr oedd y brenhinoedd, a oedd wedi dod, ar eu pennau eu hunain mewn tir agored.
9The children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the gate of the city: and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.
10 Pan welodd Joab y byddai'n gorfod ymladd o'r tu blaen ac o'r tu l, dewisodd wu375?r dethol o fyddin Israel, a'u trefnu mewn rhengoedd i wynebu'r Syriaid.
10Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians.
11 Gosododd weddill y fyddin dan awdurdod ei frawd Abisai, a safasant yn rhengoedd i wynebu'r Ammoniaid.
11The rest of the people he committed into the hand of Abishai his brother; and they put themselves in array against the children of Ammon.
12 A dywedodd, "Os bydd y Syriaid yn drech na mi, tyrd di i'm cynorthwyo; ac os bydd yr Ammoniaid yn drech na thi, dof finnau i'th gynorthwyo di.
12He said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you are to help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.
13 Bydd yn wrol! Byddwn ddewr dros ein pobl a dinasoedd ein Duw; a bydded i'r ARGLWYDD wneud yr hyn sy'n dda yn ei olwg."
13Be courageous, and let us be strong for our people, and for the cities of our God. May Yahweh do that which seems good to him.”
14 Yna nesaodd Joab a'r milwyr oedd gydag ef i ryfel yn erbyn y Syriaid, a ffoesant o'i flaen.
14So Joab and the people who were with him drew near before the Syrians to the battle; and they fled before him.
15 Pan welodd yr Ammoniaid fod y Syriaid wedi ffoi, ffoesant hwythau o flaen Abisai ei frawd, a mynd i'r ddinas. Yna dychwelodd Joab i Jerwsalem.
15When the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, they likewise fled before Abishai his brother, and entered into the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.
16 Pan welodd y Syriaid iddynt golli'r dydd o flaen Israel, anfonasant negeswyr i gyrchu'r Syriaid o Tu-hwnt-i'r-Ewffrates, gyda Sobach, pencapten byddin Hadadeser, yn eu harwain.
16When the Syrians saw that they were defeated by Israel, they sent messengers, and drew forth the Syrians who were beyond the River, with Shophach the captain of the army of Hadadezer at their head.
17 Pan ddywedwyd wrth Ddafydd, fe gasglodd ynghyd Israel gyfan, croesodd yr Iorddonen, a dod atynt a sefyll yn rhengoedd yn eu herbyn. Trefnodd rengoedd yn erbyn y Syriaid, a brwydrasant hwythau yn ei erbyn.
17It was told David; and he gathered all Israel together, and passed over the Jordan, and came on them, and set the battle in array against them. So when David had put the battle in array against the Syrians, they fought with him.
18 Ffodd y Syriaid o flaen Israel, a lladdodd Dafydd ohonynt saith mil o wu375?r cerbyd a deugain mil o wu375?r traed, a hefyd Sobach y pencapten.
18The Syrians fled before Israel; and David killed of the Syrians the men of seven thousand chariots, and forty thousand footmen, and killed Shophach the captain of the army.
19 Pan welodd gweision Hadadeser iddynt golli'r dydd o flaen Israel, gwnaethant heddwch Dafydd a phlygu i'w awdurdod. Wedi hyn yr oedd y Syriaid yn anfodlon rhoi rhagor o gymorth i'r Ammoniaid.
19When the servants of Hadadezer saw that they were defeated by Israel, they made peace with David, and served him: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.
