¹ Cofia dy Greawdwr yn nyddiau dy ieuenctid, cyn i'r dyddiau blin ddod, ac i'r blynyddoedd nes�u pan fyddi'n dweud, "Ni chaf bleser ynddynt."

¹Remember also your Creator in the days of your youth, before the evil days come, and the years draw near, when you will say, “I have no pleasure in them”;

² Cofia amdano cyn tywyllu'r haul a'r goleuni, y lloer a'r s�r, a chyn i'r cymylau ddychwelyd ar �l y glaw.

²Before the sun, the light, the moon, and the stars are darkened, and the clouds return after the rain;

³ Dyma'r dydd pan fydd ceidwaid y tu375? yn crynu, a dynion cryf yn gwargrymu; pan fydd y merched sy'n malu yn peidio � gweithio am eu bod yn ychydig, a phan fydd golwg y rhai sy'n edrych trwy'r ffenestri wedi pylu;

³in the day when the keepers of the house shall tremble, and the strong men shall bow themselves, and the grinders cease because they are few, and those who look out of the windows are darkened,

⁴ pan fydd y drysau i'r stryd wedi cau, a su373?n y felin yn distewi; pan fydd rhywun yn cael ei ddychryn gan g�n aderyn, am fod yr holl adar a ganai wedi distewi;

⁴and the doors shall be shut in the street; when the sound of the grinding is low, and one shall rise up at the voice of a bird, and all the daughters of music shall be brought low;

⁵ pan fydd pobl yn ofni llecyn uchel a pheryglon ar y ffordd; pan fydd y pren almon yn gwynnu, a cheiliog rhedyn yn ymlusgo'n feichus, a'i chwant heb ei gyffroi; pan fydd rhywun ar fynd i'w gartref bythol, a'r galarwyr yn crynhoi yn y stryd.

⁵yes, they shall be afraid of heights, and terrors will be in the way; and the almond tree shall blossom, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail; because man goes to his everlasting home, and the mourners go about the streets:

⁶ Cofia amdano cyn torri'r llinyn arian a darnio'r llestr aur, cyn malurio'r piser wrth y ffynnon a thorri'r olwyn wrth y pydew,

⁶before the silver cord is severed, or the golden bowl is broken, or the pitcher is broken at the spring, or the wheel broken at the cistern,

⁷ cyn i'r llwch fynd yn �l i'r ddaear lle bu ar y cychwyn, a chyn i'r ysbryd ddychwelyd at y Duw a'i rhoes.

⁷and the dust returns to the earth as it was, and the spirit returns to God who gave it.

⁸ "Gwagedd llwyr," meddai'r Pregethwr, "gwagedd yw'r cyfan."

⁸“Vanity of vanities,” says the Preacher. “All is vanity!”

⁹ Yn ogystal �'i fod ef ei hun yn ddoeth, yr oedd y Pregethwr yn dysgu deall i'r bobl, yn pwyso a chwilio, ac yn gosod mewn trefn lawer o ddiarhebion.

⁹Further, because the Preacher was wise, he still taught the people knowledge. Yes, he pondered, sought out, and set in order many proverbs.

¹⁰ Ceisiodd y Pregethwr gael geiriau dymunol ac ysgrifennu geiriau cywir mewn trefn.

¹⁰The Preacher sought to find out acceptable words, and that which was written blamelessly, words of truth.

¹¹ Y mae geiriau'r doethion fel symbylau, a'r casgliad o'u geiriau fel hoelion wedi eu gosod yn eu lle; y maent wedi eu rhoi gan un bugail.

¹¹The words of the wise are like goads; and like nails well fastened are words from the masters of assemblies, which are given from one shepherd.

¹² Cymer rybudd, fy mab, rhag ychwanegu atynt. Y mae cyfansoddi llyfrau yn waith diddiwedd, ac y mae astudio dyfal yn flinder i'r corff.

¹²Furthermore, my son, be admonished: of making many books there is no end; and much study is a weariness of the flesh.

¹³ Wedi clywed y cyfan, dyma swm y mater: ofna Dduw a chadw ei orchmynion, oherwydd dyma ddyletswydd pob un.

¹³This is the end of the matter. All has been heard. Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man.

¹⁴ Yn wir, y mae Duw yn barnu pob gweithred, hyd yn oed yr un guddiedig, boed dda neu ddrwg.

¹⁴For God will bring every work into judgment, with every hidden thing, whether it is good, or whether it is evil.
