1 Wedi'r pethau hyn, pan liniarodd llid y Brenin Ahasferus, fe gofiodd am Fasti a'r hyn a wnaeth, ac am yr hyn a ddyfarnwyd amdani.
1After these things, when the wrath of King Ahasuerus was pacified, he remembered Vashti, and what she had done, and what was decreed against her.
2 Dywedodd y llanciau oedd yn gweini ar y brenin, "Chwilier am wyryfon ifainc hardd i'r brenin.
2Then the king’s servants who served him said, “Let beautiful young virgins be sought for the king.
3 Bydded i'r brenin ethol swyddogion ym mhob talaith o'i deyrnas i gasglu pob gwyryf ifanc hardd i Susan y brifddinas; yna rhodder hwy yn nhu375?'r gwragedd o dan ofal Hegai, eunuch y brenin sy'n gofalu am y gwragedd, a rhodder iddynt eu hoffer coluro.
3Let the king appoint officers in all the provinces of his kingdom, that they may gather together all the beautiful young virgins to the citadel of Susa, to the women’s house, to the custody of Hegai the king’s eunuch, keeper of the women. Let cosmetics be given them;
4 Bydded i'r ferch sy'n ennill ffafr y brenin ddod i'r orsedd yn lle Fasti." Yr oedd y syniad yn dderbyniol gan y brenin, ac fe wnaeth felly.
4and let the maiden who pleases the king be queen instead of Vashti.” The thing pleased the king, and he did so.
5 Yr oedd Iddew yn byw yn Susan y brifddinas o'r enw Mordecai fab Jair, fab Simei, fab Cis, gu373?r o Benjamin.
5There was a certain Jew in the citadel of Susa, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite,
6 Yr oedd wedi ei gymryd o Jerwsalem i'r gaethglud gyda Jechoneia brenin Jwda, a gaethgludwyd gan Nebuchadnesar brenin Babilon.
6who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captives who had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away.
7 Yr oedd ef wedi mabwysiadu ei gyfnither Hadassa, sef Esther, am ei bod yn amddifad. Yr oedd hi'n ferch deg a phrydferth; a phan fu farw ei thad a'i mam, mabwysiadodd Mordecai hi'n ferch iddo'i hun.
7He brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle’s daughter; for she had neither father nor mother. The maiden was fair and beautiful; and when her father and mother were dead, Mordecai took her for his own daughter.
8 Pan gyhoeddwyd gair a gorchymyn y brenin a chasglu llawer o ferched ifainc i'r palas yn Susan o dan ofal Hegai, daethpwyd ag Esther i du375?'r brenin a oedd yng ngofal Hegai, ceidwad y gwragedd.
8So it happened, when the king’s commandment and his decree was heard, and when many maidens were gathered together to the citadel of Susa, to the custody of Hegai, that Esther was taken into the king’s house, to the custody of Hegai, keeper of the women.
9 Yr oedd y ferch yn dderbyniol yn ei olwg, a chafodd ffafr ganddo. Trefnodd iddi gael ar unwaith ei hoffer coluro a'i dogn bwyd, a rhoddodd iddi saith o forynion golygus o du375?'r brenin, a'i symud hi a'i morynion i le gwell yn nhu375?'r gwragedd.
9The maiden pleased him, and she obtained kindness from him. He quickly gave her cosmetics and her portions of food, and the seven choice maidens who were to be given her out of the king’s house. He moved her and her maidens to the best place in the women’s house.
10 Nid oedd Esther wedi sn am ei chenedl na'i thras, am i Mordecai orchymyn iddi beidio.
10Esther had not made known her people nor her relatives, because Mordecai had instructed her that she should not make it known.
11 Bob dydd i Mordecai heibio i gyntedd tu375?'r gwragedd er mwyn gwybod sut yr oedd Esther, a beth oedd yn digwydd iddi.
11Mordecai walked every day in front of the court of the women’s house, to find out how Esther was doing, and what would become of her.
12 Ar ddiwedd deuddeg mis, sef y cyfnod o baratoi a osodwyd ar gyfer y gwragedd chwe mis gydag olew a myrr, a chwe mis gyda pheraroglau ac offer coluro'r gwragedd di tro pob merch i fynd at y Brenin Ahasferus.
12Each young woman’s turn came to go in to King Ahasuerus after her purification for twelve months (for so were the days of their purification accomplished, six months with oil of myrrh, and six months with sweet fragrances and with preparations for beautifying women).
13 Pan ddi'r ferch at y brenin fel hyn, ci fynd beth bynnag a fynnai gyda hi o du375?'r gwragedd i balas y brenin.
13The young woman then came to the king like this: whatever she desired was given her to go with her out of the women’s house to the king’s house.
14 i allan gyda'r hwyr, a dychwelyd yn y bore i ail du375?'r gwragedd o dan ofal Saasgas, eunuch y brenin a ofalai am y gordderchwragedd; ni fyddai'n mynd eilwaith at y brenin oni bai iddo ef ei chwennych a galw amdani wrth ei henw.
14In the evening she went, and on the next day she returned into the second women’s house, to the custody of Shaashgaz, the king’s eunuch, who kept the concubines. She came in to the king no more, unless the king delighted in her, and she was called by name.
15 Pan ddaeth tro Esther, y ferch a fabwysiadwyd gan Mordecai am ei bod yn ferch i'w ewythr Abihail, i fynd i mewn at y brenin, ni ofynnodd hi am ddim ond yr hyn a awgrymodd Hegai, eunuch y brenin a cheidwad y gwragedd; ac yr oedd Esther yn cael ffafr yng ngolwg pawb a'i gwelai.
15Now when the turn of Esther, the daughter of Abihail the uncle of Mordecai, who had taken her for his daughter, came to go in to the king, she required nothing but what Hegai the king’s eunuch, the keeper of the women, advised. Esther obtained favor in the sight of all those who looked at her.
16 Aethpwyd ag Esther i mewn i'r palas at y Brenin Ahasferus yn y degfed mis, sef Tebeth, yn y seithfed flwyddyn o'i deyrnasiad.
16So Esther was taken to King Ahasuerus into his royal house in the tenth month, which is the month Tebeth, in the seventh year of his reign.
17 Carodd y brenin Esther yn fwy na'r holl wragedd, a dangosodd fwy o ffafr a charedigrwydd tuag ati hi na thuag at yr un o'r gwyryfon eraill; rhoddodd goron frenhinol ar ei phen a'i gwneud yn frenhines yn lle Fasti.
17The king loved Esther more than all the women, and she obtained favor and kindness in his sight more than all the virgins; so that he set the royal crown on her head, and made her queen instead of Vashti.
18 Yna gwnaeth y brenin wledd fawr i'w holl dywysogion a'i weision er mwyn anrhydeddu Esther; hefyd cyhoeddodd u373?yl ym mhob talaith, a rhannu anrhegion yn hael.
18Then the king made a great feast for all his princes and his servants, even Esther’s feast; and he proclaimed a holiday in the provinces, and gave gifts according to the king’s bounty.
19 Pan ddaeth y gwyryfon at ei gilydd yr ail waith, yr oedd Mordecai'n eistedd ym mhorth llys y brenin.
19When the virgins were gathered together the second time, Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate.
20 Nid oedd Esther wedi sn am ei thras na'i chenedl, fel y gorchmynnodd Mordecai iddi; yr oedd hi'n derbyn cynghorion Mordecai, fel y gwni pan oedd yn ei magu.
20Esther had not yet made known her relatives nor her people, as Mordecai had commanded her; for Esther obeyed Mordecai, like she did when she was brought up by him.
21 Yr adeg honno, pan oedd Mordecai'n eistedd ym mhorth y brenin, yr oedd Bigthan a Theres, dau eunuch i'r Brenin Ahasferus oedd yn gofalu am y porth, wedi digio ac yn cynllwyn i ymosod ar y brenin.
21In those days, while Mordecai was sitting in the king’s gate, two of the king’s eunuchs, Bigthan and Teresh, who were doorkeepers, were angry, and sought to lay hands on the King Ahasuerus.
22 Daeth Mordecai i wybod am hyn, a dywedodd wrth y Frenhines Esther; dywedodd hithau wrth y brenin yn enw Mordecai.
22This thing became known to Mordecai, who informed Esther the queen; and Esther informed the king in Mordecai’s name.
23 Chwiliwyd yr achos a chafwyd ei fod yn wir; felly crogwyd y ddau ar bren. Ysgrifennwyd yr hanes yn llyfr y cronicl yng ngu373?ydd y brenin.
23When this matter was investigated, and it was found to be so, they were both hanged on a tree; and it was written in the book of the chronicles in the king’s presence.
