1 Tra oedd Esra'n gweddo yn ei ddagrau, yn cyffesu ar ei hyd o flaen tu375? Dduw, ymgasglodd tyrfa fawr iawn o Israeliaid ato, yn wu375?r, gwragedd a phlant, ac yr oedd y bobl yn wylo'n hidl.
1Now while Ezra prayed and made confession, weeping and casting himself down before God’s house, there was gathered together to him out of Israel a very great assembly of men and women and children; for the people wept very bitterly.
2 Yna dywedodd Sechaneia fab Jehiel, o deulu Elam, wrth Esra, "Yr ydym wedi troseddu yn erbyn ein Duw trwy briodi merched estron o blith pobloedd y wlad; eto y mae gobaith i Israel er gwaethaf hyn.
2Shecaniah the son of Jehiel, one of the sons of Elam, answered Ezra, “We have trespassed against our God, and have married foreign women of the peoples of the land. Yet now there is hope for Israel concerning this thing.
3 Yn awr gadewch i ni wneud cyfamod 'n Duw i droi ymaith yr holl ferched hyn a'u plant, yn l cyngor f'arglwydd a'r rhai sy'n parchu gorchymyn ein Duw; a byddwn felly'n cadw'r gyfraith.
3Now therefore let us make a covenant with our God to put away all the wives, and such as are born of them, according to the counsel of my lord, and of those who tremble at the commandment of our God. Let it be done according to the law.
4 Cod, oherwydd dy gyfrifoldeb di yw hyn, ond fe fyddwn ni gyda thi; gweithreda'n wrol."
4Arise; for the matter belongs to you, and we are with you. Be courageous, and do it.”
5 Yna cododd Esra a pheri i arweinwyr yr offeiriaid a'r Lefiaid ac i holl Israel addo hyn, a gwnaethant hwythau addewid.
5Then Ezra arose, and made the chiefs of the priests, the Levites, and all Israel, to swear that they would do according to this word. So they swore.
6 Aeth Esra o du375?'r Arglwydd i ystafell Johanan fab Eliasib, ac aros yno heb fwyta bara nac yfed du373?r am ei fod yn dal i alaru am gamwedd y rhai a ddaeth o'r gaethglud.
6Then Ezra rose up from before God’s house, and went into the room of Jehohanan the son of Eliashib: and when he came there, he ate no bread, nor drank water; for he mourned because of their trespass of the captivity.
7 Yna anfonwyd neges trwy Jwda a Jerwsalem yn gorchymyn i bawb a fu yn y gaethglud ymgynnull yn Jerwsalem,
7They made proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem to all the children of the captivity, that they should gather themselves together to Jerusalem;
8 a byddai pob un na ddi o fewn tridiau ar wu375?s y penaethiaid a'r henuriaid yn colli ei gyfoeth ac yn cael ei dorri allan o gynulleidfa'r gaethglud.
8and that whoever didn’t come within three days, according to the counsel of the princes and the elders, all his substance should be forfeited, and himself separated from the assembly of the captivity.
9 O fewn tridiau, ar yr ugeinfed dydd o'r nawfed mis, ymgasglodd holl wu375?r Jwda a Benjamin i Jerwsalem, ac eisteddodd pawb yn y sgwr o flaen tu375? Dduw yn crynu o achos yr hyn oedd yn digwydd ac o achos y glawogydd.
9Then all the men of Judah and Benjamin gathered themselves together to Jerusalem within the three days; it was the ninth month, on the twentieth day of the month: and all the people sat in the broad place before God’s house, trembling because of this matter, and for the great rain.
10 Cododd Esra yr offeiriad a dweud wrthynt, "Yr ydych wedi gwneud camwedd ac wedi ychwanegu at euogrwydd Israel trwy briodi merched estron.
10Ezra the priest stood up, and said to them, “You have trespassed, and have married foreign women, to increase the guilt of Israel.
11 Yn awr cyffeswch gerbron ARGLWYDD Dduw eich hynafiaid; gwnewch ei ewyllys ef ac ymwahanwch oddi wrth bobloedd y wlad a'r merched estron."
11Now therefore make confession to Yahweh, the God of your fathers, and do his pleasure; and separate yourselves from the peoples of the land, and from the foreign women.”
12 Atebodd yr holl gynulleidfa llais uchel, "Gwnawn; rhaid i ni wneud fel yr wyt ti'n gorchymyn.
12Then all the assembly answered with a loud voice, “As you have said concerning us, so must we do.
13 Ond y mae yma lawer o bobl; y mae'n dymor y glawogydd, ac ni allwn aros yn yr awyr agored. Nid gwaith diwrnod neu ddau ydyw, oherwydd y mae llawer ohonom wedi pechu yn hyn o beth.
13But the people are many, and it is a time of much rain, and we are not able to stand outside; neither is this a work of one day or two; for we have greatly transgressed in this matter.
14 Caiff ein penaethiaid gynrychioli'r gynulleidfa gyfan, a bydded i'r rhai yn ein dinasoedd sydd wedi priodi merched estron ddod ar amseroedd penodedig, pob un gyda henuriaid a barnwyr ei ddinas ei hun, nes i ddicter mawr ein Duw am hyn droi oddi wrthym."
14Let now our princes be appointed for all the assembly, and let all those who are in our cities who have married foreign women come at appointed times, and with them the elders of every city, and its judges, until the fierce wrath of our God be turned from us, until this matter is resolved.”
15 Yr unig wrthwynebwyr oedd Jonathan fab Asahel ac Eseia fab Ticfa, a chawsant gefnogaeth Mesulam a Sabethai y Lefiad.
15Only Jonathan the son of Asahel and Jahzeiah the son of Tikvah stood up against this; and Meshullam and Shabbethai the Levite helped them.
16 Wedi i'r rhai oedd wedi bod yn y gaethglud gytuno, fe neilltuodd Esra yr offeiriad ddynion oedd yn bennau-teuluoedd i gynrychioli eu teuluoedd wrth eu henwau. Eisteddasant ar y dydd cyntaf o'r degfed mis i archwilio'r mater,
16The children of the captivity did so. Ezra the priest, with certain heads of fathers’ households, after their fathers’ houses, and all of them by their names, were set apart; and they sat down in the first day of the tenth month to examine the matter.
17 ac erbyn y dydd cyntaf o'r mis cyntaf yr oeddent wedi gorffen eu hymchwiliad i'r holl briodasau gyda merched estron.
17They made an end with all the men who had married foreign women by the first day of the first month.
18 Ymysg meibion yr offeiriaid oedd wedi priodi merched estron yr oedd y canlynol: Maseia, Elieser, Jarib a Gedaleia o deulu Jesua fab Josadac a'i frodyr.
18Among the sons of the priests there were found who had married foreign women: of the sons of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and his brothers, Maaseiah, and Eliezer, and Jarib, and Gedaliah.
19 Gwnaethant addewid i ysgaru eu gwragedd ac offrymasant hwrdd o'r praidd am eu trosedd.
19They gave their hand that they would put away their wives; and being guilty, they offered a ram of the flock for their guilt.
